    Buffalo stuffed.

Wanted to stop on Thursday but it was raining. Stopped on Sunday. The museum is small. Watched a video first. It was sad that bison were down to 500 or so in 1900. People shot them for fun. Now due to conservation efforts the population is 400,000-500,000. We came from Medora where we saw some very close to the car. They are beautiful. The museum had a model of plastic anatomy parts of the Buffalo, a taxidermied stuffed white Buffalo, adult Buffalo and calf. Also a small gift shop. The world's tallest Buffalo is free and not part of museum. You can see it from the outside. $8 admission fee.

The National Buffalo Museum in Jamestown, ND, is well worth visiting. You'll see and learn more about buffaloes than you've ever known before... and you'll be glad to know it all! The place is busy! In the parking lot we saw license plates from all over the country. There were visitors all over the place! Don't miss the Museum's gift shop.

WHAT BETTER WAY TO CELEBRATE MY 300TH REVIEW? Cool buffalo stuff. Doesn't everyone need a http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/MG4r0q-vlrPYLqOx8GtszQ?select=SEh0YIvYVVQZo4pOEtVkyg#HA-dACup7SwAL1bWgN1xww 25 foot 60 ton buffalo? Well, inside the museum is all kinds of facts and displays of stuff about buffaloes. Also, there is a gift shop just full of cool buffalo memorabilia for sale to the unsuspecting tourist. Do not miss this, but do not drive too many miles out of your way to see it. If you are on 94 crossing North Dakota, make this a rest stop.

My review is for the gift shop only, as my husband and I were literally moving cross-country and had our dogs in the car. I loved the gift shop and am so happy we saw the "World's Largest Buffalo" and decided to stop and check out the surrounding area. The gift shop is pretty big with a variety of items-locally made soap, buffalo souvenirs (stuffed animals and wood carvings,) teas, keychains, postcards. Pretty reasonable prices too. Be sure to also see the World's Largest Buffalo and the surrounding mock Wild West town. I assume this area is open in the summer-saw things for the kiddies. Looks like a great family activity or school field trip. Would like to come back one day and see the museum, and the white buffalo!

Very nice and interesting place. I am not the biggest fan of taxidermy but they did a wonderful job preserving these animals.

When you arrive, you have to drive through this little frontier village and it was completely deserted when we were there so it was more like a ghost to town. It's a cute little old west themed area with buildings and displays but it was obviously closed when we were there. We had to drive through to the end of it to see the Buffalo. While you can easily view him from the parking area, we walked over to be right underneath him and he is quite big and impressive. It's hard to tell just how large it is from the photos but my husband is 6 ft tall with an impressive wingspan and standing directly underneath with his arms stretched up, he still could not touch it's belly. The singular Rocky mountain oyster protruding from the bottom made us laugh though! There are also displays with images of the building process and history about the monument and I love that they have a phone number you can call if you want to hear the story. We used this function for some of the other stops we made and it's a nice option and would be great for people with kids and the visually impaired. Overall it was just a quick 10-minute stop for a photo op but it was fun enough for us and I imagine when the frontier village is open and there are a lot of people around that it's much more fun with a lot more things to do.

This museum is not just a fascinating glimpse into Cold War history; it offers a deeper understanding of the era's impact on our country and the world. The middle-of-nowhere site features a restored missile silo and an informative visitor center, showcasing the history of the Minuteman missile program and its role in nuclear deterrence. Walking through the exhibits, we learned about the technological advancements of the time and the strategic importance of North Dakota in national defense. It was enlightening for both the adults and kids in our group. What made our visit even more memorable was the sudden summer thunderstorm that rolled in while we were exploring the outdoor exhibits. The dramatic skies and the sound of thunder added an unexpected thrill to our experience. We huddled together in the visitor center, watching the rain pour down, and shared stories and laughter while learning about history. It was a beautiful moment of connection, both as a family and with the rich history surrounding us. Driving across NoDak, the be can spot many decommissioned missle silos-- for a while, some folks were buying them just to own a piece of history, and maybe recycle the metal left on the property (pretty sure the military took all the Uranium and Plutonium when they left...) If you're looking for a unique and educational stop on your road trip, I highly recommend the Ronald Reagan Minuteman Missile Museum. It's a great blend of history and family fun, and you might even get a dose of that quintessential North Dakota summer weather to make your visit even more memorable

Awesome tour! We…read moredrove about a hour and a half from Fargo to check out this site. You pass lots of farm land. The location is just outside of Cooperstown. Pulling up to the location it was hard to tell if we were at the right place but there was a sign on the fence. The entrance is in the front of the building. We were greeted by Mickey and she gave us a great overview of the facility. The tour costs $10. It starts with a 20 minute video about the Cold War area, why the missile silos were created, and information about the building of this location. After the video there are some descriptive posters about the Cold War and where the missile sites were located. Then you go through the facility as it was left original in all its 80s glory. After the above ground tour you get to take the elevator below ground to the launch control area. The tour was highly informative and really opened up your mind to the historical importance of this location. Although there is no missile silo to see, it was still very much worth the trip. The tour guide also gave a great overview of how the facility operated and was great at answering questions.
