I walked to several (the map doesn't feel to scale) & walked back to others that weren't listed in the blown up section, and yet- they were so close! A few you need to drive to (realistically). I didn't see them all, but now I really want to go back and explore more! If it didn't storm, with tornado threats... lol, I wouldn't hinted them all down! John went and found ice cream while I roamed. The temps dropped 15 degrees in less than an hour! I went from sweater to coat & I'm grateful i always keep layers in the car! This library works with an interloan system with about 200 other libraries and you can pretty much get ANY book even if it's not in this library. The librarians are very friendly and helpful The children have their own little section but it's very limited. I like to request the books I"m interested in online and they notify me via email when book has arrived. I love the system... I'm happy!

The museum is a wonderful trip through history and they even offered coloring sheets for the kids to take home with information about lighthouses on the back that was their level! It's a spiraling staircase that has some landings along the way so you can rest or stretch. But it's the coming down that is a little harder. The spiraling stairs are more disorienting coming down, so take your time. After that there are a few rooms of pertinent information and then they have four rooms upstairs that show what life was life back then. Each room was recreated with artifacts of the time period...and there was a little interactive tablets that explain the different items in the room. A definite stop if you're visiting the island.

Pricing for lodging and food are typical vacation escalated. Wouldn't mind staying permanently some day.

The JIAA hosts art festivals and other events throughout the year, in addition to offering classes in a variety of art mediums. They have a pottery guild on the basement level, a store on the first floor, and classes upstairs. JIAA's store offers art created by its members, and they completely empty and restock the gallery every few months. There are dozens of artists' work on display; paintings, sculpture, fiber arts, pottery, even origami. It is so inspiring to walk through and look at everything. Prices range from as little as $5 or $10 for a crafty item, all the way up to the thousands for large paintings. Most of the art pays homage to the Golden Isles region, which makes it a special place to find a one-of-a-kind souvenir. I bought pottery pieces at the JIAA spring festival 2023, and a painting in Jan 2024. I smile every time I see these pieces in my home. JIAA members run the store, and often there is a member at a demonstration table working on their art during store hours, which is a very cool touch. Many members are retirees who live on the island and bring artistic experiences from all over the world, so for an arts center, this place draws from a diverse pool of talent, and a caucus of expertise. In other words, this place is beautifully appointed and well run!

A great cultural addition to SSI, Glynn Visual Arts (GVA) fulfills multiple roles for the community…read moreand provides community for its artists and aspiring artists. They offer classes across a variety of visual art mediums throughout the year. They offer a children's summer camp as well. On site they have an artists' store filled with handmade original works. GVA also does outreach in the community, providing free art crafts for local kids. They host outdoor markets on SSI at certain times of the year. We visited the store at Christmas time and found very interesting, beautiful original art items. Prices were higher on average than the Jekyll Goodyear Artists' shop, and there wasn't as much in the store but otherwise similar to that local artists' shop and definitely worth a visit. Staff (or volunteers?) were very friendly and helpful. I'm happy to have finally visited and I'd like to check out their classes and summer camp when we visit for a longer stay.
