The staff member working in the fitness area (moderately sized but very nice quality equipment and lots of natural light) was actually DOING SOMETHING, i.e. walking around and putting stuff back in their proper places! Never seen that at any other Y I've been to, where staff just stand around, fiddle with their phones, and generally just use up oxygen---unless they are personal trainers working with a paying client. Not only that, the guy actually noticed that I was new and came up to me, introduced himself and offered help if I ever needed any! Absolutely flabberghasting staff behavior for a YMCA, lol! If only every Y were like this. 2. The fairly new, spacious, and coed sauna next to the pool area (there are no longer single sex saunas in the locker rooms, I was told) was actually heated to a decent temperature (190F according to the thermometer hanging on the wall at chest level) AND had two levels of seating so you could actually get a decent sweat on, as opposed to some Ys that for some boneheaded reason have only a single low bench which is completely useless because duh, heat RISES so why in the hell would you want to be sitting so low when it's already maxed out at some wimpy 150F? (Cough cough, Melrose and Framingham YMCAs.) The disadvantage of a poolside sauna though is that it's a pain to go back and forth back to the locker room shower for a cold rinse every 10-15 minutes, as opposed to a locker room sauna---but this is not a fatal flaw. 3. The treadmills were by a brand called Matrix I had never seen before and I got on one hoping that it wouldn't totally suck like the Precor treadmills---happily, it did not, though I was disappointed at how tiny the screens were after being spoiled by the huge 24" screens of the Life Fitness treadmills at my home Y in Cambridge. BUT it had one beautiful feature the big fancy LF treadmills lacked: a built in cooling fan at the top of the console, which was absolutely delightful! Wish this feature were standard on EVERY piece of gym cardio equipment, lol. Only a few minior gripes about this place: - Almost all the stationary bikes were the geriatric recumbent kind. No Keiser bikes, which are the only ones with decent ergonomics and that actually feel like you're pedaling a real bike. - Kettlebells are few and max out at 22kg, which is barely enough for one handed swings and presses, but much too light for loaded carries or two handed swings. - Oh and it'd be nice if they had some hanging boxing bags, or at least one. This is one of the things that sets the Cambridge Y apart: an abundance of free-hanging real boxing bags, not the useless water-base standing bags. This gym appears to have neither. Overall though, this is a very good Y and I will be sure to return next time I'm in the area!

Miss Emily, Mr. Ross, and all the YMCA staff were especially helpful. Our 40" ventriloquist puppet sang "We are all here in Foxboro and we say thank you". After our Tennis Ball puppet sang our version of "Happy Happy Birthday", everyone joined in singing the traditional "Happy Birthday" to the young boy who will celebrate his birthday this month. Special thanks to the children who joined us on stage today to play our tambourines, maracas, and drumsticks in tempo with our music. Some even volunteered to demonstrate their new ventriloquial skills after choosing a puppet of their choice from our big drum case. Volunteers were encouraged to say their first name into the microphone and try moving the puppet's mouth three times as they said "One, Two, Three" with their new puppet voice. We especially want to thank the male and female YMCA counselors who volunteered to be our HUMAN DUMMIES, wear our male and female ventriloquist face masks, and help us sing our "No Bully Zone" (No, they did not sing at the same time... we're not that good!)

This YMCA is the closest one to my new home, and the best part is that they have lap swim all day…read morelong :) The facilities are a little older looking, and they do not have a great variety of classes during the evening hours - everything is this new body pump/flow stuff. A lot of the different classes are during the daytime hours, which really stinks for those of us who work during the day. I'm hoping that in time, they will expand their schedule. This gym has a cycling area, a walking track (for the rainy days) a basketball court, a small weights/cardio machine area...but best of all - a sauna and steam room for each gender. Once I saw the women's sauna, I was sold, and became a y member once again!

Everyone has been so helpful and kind answering questions I have had. I feel welcomed and I feel comfortable. There is plenty of space, the equipment is in great condition, and the women's locker room is spotless. The recent updates in the locker room are great (love the new floor!). I am very happy here and recommend this location, especially to anyone who might be tentative about going to a gym. I went to four others gyms before this one and this place, for me, is exactly what I was looking for.

One of the lifeguards constantly crossed personal boundaries and eventually called me an alcoholic because I did not accept his unsolicited medical advice. The aquatics director and CEO made me stand in his office despite me telling the CEO that I cannot stand or sit for an extended period due to chronic pain and my disability, and while making me stand and listen to him repeat everything he said over email, they both basically took the side of the lifeguard, suggesting without asking the offensive party that the lifeguard was "joking" and I was more or less holding a grudge. They even suggested that the Bayside pool wasn't the right pool for me because I was offended by being called an alcoholic by this lifeguard. They never asked the lifeguard to apologize to me after I requested an apology. I do not feel respected at this YMCA branch. Another issue is the staff don't tell you that there's an additional annual fee on top of the regular monthly fee and joiner's fee until after you've joined. I reached out to the same CEO and membership director about this issue, and have been met with silence for over a month. But when they didn't like that I complained about a lifeguard slandering me and his continued foul mannerisms towards me, the CEO wouldn't leave me alone constantly emailing me and demanding I go into his office when I asked for a phone call to accommodate my disability to address the issue.

The YMCA offers a wide variety of classes, and although the selection might not be as robust as other facilities, I have enjoyed them. The cardio/weights room, where I spend a lot of time has been updated with brand new equipment and is well managed - there are typically available cardio machines in the busy morning hours. This Y is also located next to the East Bay Bike Path - so one can easily bike here, and go out running during or after a visit. Bottom line a good value, a good facility for the area.

The administration is efficient and communicative and the teachers are all so kind and plan impressive curriculum. They have outstanding events throughout the year. For example, the women's locker room is in the bottom floor, the main workout area is split into two floors- the lower level is strength training and weights, the upper level is cardio machines. It's not fancy, not brand new and shiny, but it gets the job done. There are small lockers in the upper workout area to store your jacket or purse. There are only two (2) things that really bother me about this particular Y. - There are only four (4) elliptical machines. That's it. So there's a wait sometimes. -The front desk attendants aren't particularly friendly. I've gotten some comments about the fact that I don't belong to this particular Y, never gotten a smile or a "hello" upon entering the building, and when I've asked for help finding places within the building, the attendant acted as though I was stupid and that helping me was not her job. A nicer front desk would go far to making this a Y that I would recommend to others. But right now, go if you have to, if it's convenient, and only if you don't mind mediocre customer service at best.

We found a new child care center that values families and the well being of my child. It's frustrating because as a parent it's your job to advocate for your child but we felt like we had no voice when it came to the matter of our child , at their facility so we had no choice but to move him .
