There is an excellent mix of produce, real food, treats (including ice cream), and take home items that you can very easily get lunch, dessert, and grocery shopping all done in one stop. The parking situation is a bit close to impossible which would really be the only con, but the neighborhood is super walkable so once you find a spot, take a stroll and earn the ham and cheese croissant I'll promise you you'll want to try! As you head out from the BART station walk along Adeline in the opposite direction of Berkeley Bowl in the direction of Flacos. Keep walking for a bit & you will see them on the right hand side of Adeline. Lots of organic produce here. Some of it maybe a bit costly yet fresh as you can imagine as the blueberries I picked up were picked the morning that I bought them. I like that it is compact, lots of variety, & w/ heaps of organics. I do a lot of my own cooking as I frequently make smoothies for breakfast along w/ stews w/ whole grains for lunch along w/ dinner. I have recently gotten into making different customized trail mixes. I picked up some blueberries, raspberries, cantaloupe, squash, & almonds. The reason I come to this one more often is because it's closer to me in the East Bay. They don't have a lot of organic produce and the prices for all the produce is a bit high for what it is. There's a lot of different pastry booths and there's a Semi Freddy's Cafe close by. The Frog Hollow farm has great fruit and pretty good simple pastries. They also offer their fruit preserves on a discount that is much cheaper than in stores or online. Their apricot preserves is one of their best ones and has the least amount of sugar. I come here quite often to get lunch on the weekends. There's also a really nice rotisserie chicken truck that makes amazing rotisserie chicken for about $17 and they also have rotisserie duck and rotisserie pork. They have a lot of roasted vegetables that can come with their rotisserie meat but unfortunately, all their potatoes and vegetables are covered with animal grease so it is not for people watching their cholesterol. It's easy to pick up a whole rotisserie chicken for a lovely Sunday meal and have leftovers for work for a few days. It's better than any rotisserie chicken from the supermarket but will cost about twice as much. However, you get to see them roast your chicken so you know it's very fresh and the skin is crisp.

With a couple food trucks in addition to vendors, I've found this to have the most hot food dining options for those who go to the market to do more than shop. This market also has pretty much anything you'd need for a meal. One note, it is so popular that I've seen a tent and a food truck sell out before they close for the day so you may want to go early. There are a few benches that provide good seating, which can allow for taking this market at a bit of a slower pace than you might others. Only note, it can get extremely congested, as I feel this is one of the most popular markets in the Bay, if you want something more sprawling I'd suggest Old Oakland, but otherwise no complaints. Temescal is soundly in my faves!

I'm talking about a tiny Middle Eastern kitchen inside the Berkeley Organic Market. I just happened on this spot as I was walking and feeling peckish in the family-friendly Elmwood neighborhood. One woman was behind the counter, so I assumed she was not only the face of Badan, she was Badan. I ordered the $9.99 Falafel Plate with three freshly deefalafel balls, hummus, baba ganoush, and a salad with cucumbers, tomatoes, Kalamata olives, turnip, pickles, and feta cheese (photo). It came with a fluffy pita quartered for easier scooping. The market only has one table out on the sidewalk which I shared with a young mother and her daughter. I can say unequivocally that everything tasted fresh. I believe the woman who prepared my plate made everything that morning, and it made me want to come back and try the shawarma, the lentil soup, and the wraps. Great balls. You're welcome. Feeling so spoiled with 3 farmer's markets per week in Berkeley!…read more My partner and I explored the Saturday market recently and were very impressed by the size of the market, the variety of vendors, and the quality of the product. Everything smelled amazing. In fact, we could smell the fresh basil one vendor was selling from across the street! We were pleased to see that the market also accepts SNAP/EBT; we haven't seen many markets that do that! We strolled through and popped into each stand. The produce is simply incredible The colors are so vibrant! See attached picture for reference. We purchased 2 small bottles of apple cider and a berry scone from 2 separate vendors. The cider was refreshing and tasty, and the scone was incredible! The scone was large, pillowy, and had pockets of fresh baked berries. Very good. In conclusion: this is a great farmers market! I'm excited to explore the other markets in Berkeley. Check this one out next weekend!

Also, they don't like black home crafters, my experience from when I was making and selling bath and body products. I stopped by this past Thursday and told him that I had chicken tikka masala once and that it was rotten so he apologized and gave me one (from his cooler). I told him that he needs more ice because his food is sitting in the sun. Well, when I hesitantly opened the new container, and smelled it, I almost vomited on the spot. It was spoiled, again. I kept dry heaving as I ran it to my outdoor trash can. It was so bad. I would like a health inspector to check his food. I cannot be the only person who has received spoiled food from that stand 2 times! Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, never a third time.
