When I was a poor grad student, Dr. Wilson consistently gave me discounts on my care. As a real adult with actual dental insurance, I stayed loyal to them. I've transitioned over to Dr. Jradeh now, but the standard of care remains high. (The only negative difference I've noticed since Dr. Jradeh joined the practice is the loss of NPR on the radio. A manageable tragedy.) Since then, I've had several good experiences with them, but one stands out: I had two superficial fillings come out while I was on vacation in Florida. I didn't know it was fillings at the time; I thought my teeth had chipped at the gum and I freaked. I called the office's emergency dental line and left a message, saying that it wasn't a life-threatening emergency, but I was freaking out and wanted to know if I should go get treatment ASAP in Florida or wait until I got back home in a week. Within an hour, Dr. Jradeh called me back. Personally. ON A SATURDAY NIGHT. AFTER 10 PM. He told me not to worry and instructed me on how to take care of the teeth for the next week. When I came into the office a week or so later, he personally examined all my teeth, did my cleaning, and then re-filled the teeth. Amazing. Highly recommended. read more

I have been coming here for cleanings and X-rays for several years now and have always been pleased with their service. However, recently I broke a tooth and needed to get it checked out. Dr. Jradeh was extremely helpful. He took his time to explain the various options I could choose from and tried his best to keep costs reasonable. The only drawback is that they are not open on Fridays, so it can potentially slow things down a bit. However, I appreciate the care they show their patients and recommend them to anyone! read more

Love this place. Was referred there by two co-workers and couldn't have been more pleased. While the office itself is nothing to write home about (no real frills, etc.), the staff there are so great. They are also the first dentist that has started appointments ON TIME and I never ended up having to wait long in the waiting area. I didn't see Dr. Wilson, but I did see his partner, Dr. Rami Jradeh. Dr. Jradeh is really nice, funny and a great guy. Most recently, I got a filling replaced and he was sure to take his time and walk me through every step. He even sang along to the radio and told jokes. After about a 30 minute procedure, my jaw was sore - and without my prompting - he massaged my jaw area whilst giving me the "don't eat for two hours, it will be sensitive for four weeks". Amazing. The entire staff is super nice, including the dental assistants and front desk. I can't say enough good things about them. If you're looking for a dentist in the Cambridge area...go there. read more

I don't go to the dentist very often. Generally, I hate the entire experience. So I'm a bit biased. However, I have certainly had pleasant dental experiences. This was not one of them. I would put zero stars if that was possible. The receptionists and hygienist were very nice people. Unfortunately the hygienist only used the scraper on me. Excessively. Also, the actual dentist (Loren Wilson) did not evaluate my X-Rays; the hygienist did. I know where I have cavities because I can feel them (and the dentist I visited previous to NCDA spotted them...but did not want to drill because they were tiny and I admitted they only bother me rarely). This dentist completely missed them, and instead decided that he wanted to drill elsewhere.....(I got fillings right after a cleaning because there was a cancellation) For two cavities, I sat in the chair for over an hour because he &$&($ed up my bite (twice) and I was bleeding profusely (not sure if that's my fault or his). Those teeth did not hurt before my visit. And now I have difficulty chewing on my right side (for chronology, I went the day before Thanksgiving).... Apparently I have a cavity on the left side of my mouth too. Liar. Thanks Dr (only because you have a piece of paper) Wilson! DO NOT GO TO THIS DENTIST! read more

Thank you Yelpers! I tried this place and it was one of the best dental cleanings I have gotten. First of all, they took xray of my entire jaw, just to make sure everything is OK... no other dentist ever did that for cleaning routine! The hygenist was super (OMG I asked her name for Yelping purpose and I forgot...forgive me) was very detailed and careful, although I have sensitive teeth&gum, it almost did not hurt! Then a Dr came to check up on the cleaning. It is true, as other reviews say, the receptionist is very determined to get you an appointment. This place is very popular, so they are usually fully booked. But you will get a spot real soon, thanks to this lady who will call you every time there is a cancellation. I don't often see that sort of determination in workplaces now a days. That's a plus also. read more

7:15AM is never a good time to go to a doctor, much less a dentist. Although I do love the early scheduling of North Cambridge Dental, this way I don't have to take sick time for a middle of the day appointment. Woot! I stumbled upon this cute place when doing research on my dental plan. This morning, Loren (the dentist) and I were the first two people in the office. I don't know what it is, but I liked the fact that he showed up before the other workers. In my head it established a good work ethic right off the bat. The office is older, but aging well. The waiting room is a pleasant color of robin's egg blue (methinks), but I liked it even better because I didn't have too wait too long in it (3 people had 7:15am appointments! Wow). I've dealt with two receptionists and they were both very nice with scheduling and in general. The dental hygenist was a friendly woman that didn't attack my teeth. I like the mouthwash they give you to rinse. I feel like it's an extra step towards cleanliness instead of using water. Sadly..I have a cavity on the inside of a tooth. Dangit.. So I'm leaving this at 5 stars and I will be back to review next week after I get the filling. Bah. OH and the actual address is 2331 Mass Ave. I guess the address listed was from the old office? I have to start by saying that I fear nothing more than the sound of a dental drill. The dentist I had growing up buried that one deep in my mind. While that's never stopped me from seeing a dentist on a ~regular basis, the whole experience was my own little horror movie. While I still probably ruin chairs after long procedures from my death grip on the arm rests, Dr. Jradeh makes the experience completely different. He is very knowledgeable, explains his observations and how he would approach any necessary treatment. During the procedure, he makes sure I am comfortable, explains what he is doing along the way and how the procedure is progressing. On top of all that, he is just a nice guy and always has a smile on his face. That's nice at 8am on my way to a long day at work. Just recently took Yelp's advice and visited North Cambridge Dental Association. I was a new patient. I called on a Friday and left a message (they're closed on Fridays) and I got two phone calls from the receptionist on Monday - that's persistence. They fit me in that afternoon. The dentist couldn't believe I got in so quickly. X-rays, cleaning, and exam took under 45 minutes. The office was sparse, new, and clean. Am I the only person who thinks that this office is a dump? It looked outdated, unclean, and the records were displayed on disheveled shelves in the reception area. Also, the technician who cleaned my teeth left me in a bloody mess! She was not gentle in the least. I also feel like they push x-rays in order to charge the insurance company (who typically allows the pricey full x-rays on a 5-year schedule). I had an appointment at 11:45 this morning, and they called around 10 am to say they had an early opening. Nice! For those of you reading the reviews from 2006 saying the place is kind of old and outdated, they recently moved into a really nice office on Mass Ave. which is great because I live about a block away. I would say my only criticism of their new location is that, as an architect, they need to invest in a really nice sign. The current one is so boring and plain that it really makes the place look uninviting. I would not have made an appointment here had it not been for such great Yelp reviews! That said, here is the text from the postcard I received for my appointment that talked about their move (and won me over): "We've Moved! Dear Patients of North Cambridge Dental, When we decided to move our practice, I considered the following elements most important: 1. Seriously, why don't they ever hang TVs or paintings on the ceiling?) with new equipment and chairs. Everyone was really nice, and I got a good cleaning. One other complaint was that both the hygienist and Dr. Wilson were a little rough compared to some of my old dentists, but they were very thorough and didn't rush. I've been seeing Dr. Wilson for over 15 years. I've been very pleased with this practice; they're efficient, friendly, and caring. Dr. Wilson does not try to sell expensive procedures; he's pretty conservative with his treatments. Once I visited another practice, and returned to Dr. Wilson; I told him the other practice wanted to do scaling/gum surgery on me. He smiled and told me I didn't need it ... there definitely are practices that try to sell you things you don't necessarily need. When you do need something beyond the usual cleaning, though, Dr. Wilson prices it at a very fair and reasonable rate. My daughter just started coming here after going to a pediatric practice. On our last visit, she and I had cleanings done at the same time; the cost for my cleaning, her cleaning and x-rays together was less money than I paid at her pediatric practice for cleaning/x-rays for her alone. In all the time I've been coming to North Cambridge Dental, I don't think I've ever had to wait long to be seen. So do show up on time ... I always feel like a heel if I'm running late. They run the office like a tight ship. The location is in a quieter block of Mass Ave, so street parking is usually pretty easy to find. Highly recommend! read more

Been going to Loren for years (started w/a reccommendation from a good friend). Always very positive & friendly. The hygenists are all nice & thankfully gentle enough that I don't need a pint of A Pos transfused @ the end of my visit - very little pain. (although I make no apologies for good oral hygiene). North Camb dental is just west of porter on Mass Ave eastbound @ 2210 Mass Ave (think green awning right next to the B&B). Two huge thumbs up for these guys! Loren Wilson has been my dentist (and my wife's) since 2000. He and his staff are consistently gracious, effective, and attentive. We've had everything from cleanings, bondings, fillings, to my wife having a resorbed tooth removed by the oral surgeon next door and then walking over to have it replaced by Dr. Wilson. Some commenters noted the old space may not have been so glamorous. His new office may be on a blah block but it's clean, bright and modern inside. Plus a 5 minute walk from Davis T. Dr. Jradeh is the best. In addition to regular work and a couple of crowns over the years, I have a terrible bite (chronically) and my front teeth get pitted/chipped. We worked out a system where he does these tiny fillings every couple years, always acknowledging that they won't last forever, at a reasonable cost. Much preferred to doing caps or crowns for me. Dr. Jradeg and staff are thorough and professional, gentle and caring. I know I'm in good hands every time I go in for a cleaning and the staff actually remembers me. Let me start by saying Dr. Wilson isn't your average dentist. I'm in my last year of dental school and I had the honor of working with Loren during a recent trip to Nicaragua. It was one of the greatest experiences of my life because Loren is not only one of the best educators, but one of the kindest people I've ever met. I am a pretty critical person when it comes to how doctors treat their patients and all I can say is I would trust sending my mother to Loren any day of the week. He never over treats and genuinely cares about his patients. During my short time in this profession I've had the opportunity to meet many "respected" dentists, but I can honestly say Loren is on another level. He may look like Jerry Garcia, but his work is that of MJ, Game 6 of the '98 finals, always clutch. If you're ever in the area, make sure to drop by and meet one of the greats. read more

This is my dentist, randomly selected from the list of providers who take my insurance. The office is in the second story of a house, fully converted into a comfortable dental space. The dentist, Loren Wilson, is an affable fellow--a bit harried at times, but always professional and knowledgeable. He looks kind of like Jerry Garcia, with a drill instead of a guitar. You get the feeling that people have been coming to see him for years and then bring their kids to see him, etc. I have to say that it's not the most modern-appearing space. There's definitely some vintage gear in on display and in use, but hey, it works well and Dr. Wilson knows how to use it. Everything is clean, but you can tell that the bulk of his fees do not fall into the hands of interior design consultants--which is a good thing! They usually have NPR on the radio, which is something I like. "Talk of the Nation" relaxes me. He will sometimes call after a tough appointment, just to make sure you're doing all right. If you ever have an emergency situation (I have), he will get you in there and take care of it ASAP or refer you to a colleague who can fit you in. I had a lot of dental work done before becoming a patient here and this is the best dental care I have ever had. Dr. Wilson never tries to tell you something is wrong when it isn't or pushes you into having unnecessary work done. They moved down the street from the old location and the move was a good one - much nicer facilities here. I like the whole staff and the careful nature of the practice. Went for annual cleaning+check up. The cost was very affordable: about $150 for cleaning+ bite wing X-rays, which I consider the minimum to invest in preventative care. The cleaning was good, though it was a bit rougher than previous cleanings I've had. The receptionist was very kind and polite. I like that you can request documents over e-mail if need be. The transition process to becoming a customer was seamless. Some commenters have mentioned that the dentist is a bit quick. I will corroborate this. I would have liked to chat about some things the hygienist brought up, but I was waiting for us to finish the pleasantries -- but after the pleasantries, he walked off. I do not hold this against him; it seems like that is just his style. If you are the type of person who likes to talk to their dentist about their health, I suggest taking the lead yourself and asking your questions early in the conversation. Overall, a decent place to get an affordable cleaning. Really merits somewhere between 3 and 4 stars IMO. Would recommend for the cost-conscious patient. read more

I am a horrible patient... We didn't have a lot of money to spare growing up, so things like regular dental check ups just didn't happen. My teeth were bad. Really, really bad. I didn't realize how bad until at the age of 24 I bit into a jely bean and my tooth crumbled! I went to Dr. Wilson, because it was close to where I worked at the time. Over 10 years, 3 crowns, 1 root canal, numerous fillings, and an extraction later, I am still going to Dr. Wilson and the North Cambridge team. They are awesome. When I first started going., I had no credit card, no insurance.l. and they let me pay on a payment plan. Dr. Wilson really cares about his patients well being, and goes the extra mile to make sure that you get great care. I like their no nonsense office, comfortable and not "slick". They are a bustling office, yet they always manage to get you in there if you need it. I love the early morning appts. 7:15 dental appts may not sound like a fun time, but it means I don't have to miss any work. Most importantly, I trust them. I recently started going here after a dentist at Gentle Dental in Porter Square told me I had 17 cavities - after I had had only 2 my entire life! I got a second opinion from Dr. Jradeg who only filled 1 cavity! They've been following other minor brushable cavities since and I feel in in much more reliable hands. Half of the staff are pleasant and want to please, but the other half are incompetent. I went in for a cleaning, and I would rank it as my second worse dental experience. The hygienist had a cold when she was doing the cleaning... honestly, you should stay home if you're sick and have a job where you put your hands in peoples' mouths all day. The cleaning was aggressive and archaic. I usually feel good after a cleaning and this was not the case with North Cambridge Dental. I ended up with tons of blood, pain, and teeth that have been cleaner with less aggressive treatment. Second, they made me a mouth appliance that totally cut up the inside of my mouth. The Dr. did not seem very interested in dealing with that fact- there was no acknowledgment or apology for inflicting the inside of my mouth with life long scar damage. Overall, he seemed hurried and inattentive with his constant walking around. Eventually, they did remake the appliance for me, so that was appreciated, but I still have the souvenir of busted up inner cheeks. Administratively, they are great (hence the extra star). The receptionists are pleasant, friendly and welcoming. There is also a technician who I found to have a warm and caring attitude. Going to the dentist is never any fun and dentists and hygienists should know that. If you want to attract and keep patients, you need to go out of your way to make them feel comfortable and cared for. I'm still looking for a place like that in the area. read more

Like many, I hate visiting the dentist. Back in 2000, I hadn't been to one in 7 years I hated them so much. I developed a very painful cavity - it was excruciating. I went to Dr. Wilson on a recommendation. He was very careful and understanding about my pain, and worked on the painful tooth as much as I could handle, managing the pain. It took I think three visits, and I'm incredibly grateful for the care and concern he showed. Over the next few months he repaired the rest of the neglect - which thankfully wasn't painful at all. I've been using him ever since and have 5 or so friends who go there now, too. We think he's great. I still don't LIKE going to the dentist, but I don't hate it anymore. read more

Loren is a great dentist. I have had too many bad experiences with dentist offices where the hygienist was terrible (repeatedly accidentally poking the wrong place and making it bleed) or the dentist did nothing, tried to sell me on something I didn't need, or didn't even notice actual real problems. I've also had some good ones, but they were long ago and far away, unfortunately. He noticed the tooth that where there was a dead nerve, which the last dentist totally dismissed despite my mentioning it turning a shade darker than the other teeth next to it. He also did a great job on the bleaching- 6 months later, it's still a perfect color match. read more

Again, to set expectations, this isn't a plush office in a downtown district; its design is to be green and therefore the now-standard flat screen tvs showing nothing of any value won't be found here. I have to preface this review by saying I have probably had every dental procedure you can have over the years. Broken teeth from playing hockey, fillings, wisdom teeth problems stories that would make most people horrified. I found Dr. Jradeh by accident because of an emergency situation. I had a wisdom tooth that came in sideways while sleeping, and cracked the tooth next to it. Pain was unbelievable I couldn't close my mouth at all, and of coarse this occurred on a Friday night. I did the phone book thing over night to start calling dentists offices first thing Sat. morning. I called the office Dr. Jradeh was running in Braintree. He called me back himself at 7am to find out what was going on and I was in his chair by 9 am on a Saturday even though I had never been a patient of his before. In an hour I was out of pain wisdom tooth removed, and the other tooth was fixed. Since that adventure Dr.Jradeh has been the only dentist I will see. If all the great reviews of him are not enough for you to try him. I am still a patient of his even though he moved to Cambridge and I live in Rockland. Anyone that has ever driven the southeast expressway knows what that trip can be like. You will never dread calling the dentist again when something goes wrong you will just pickup the phone, call and probably be seen right away. I called this office on a Tuesday because I had a toothache, and they fit me in for Thursday morning. As it turned out, I needed two rather large fillings in adjacent teeth; Dr. Jradeh did both of these immediately after my initial evaluation. He and his assistant were both personable and knowledgeable, and he made sure to explain the entirety of the procedure and his prognosis to me both before and during the work. He was clear, concise, and concerned for my wellbeing and comfort. The fillings feel natural now, and I felt like I was in capable hands during the entire procedure. Additionally, the prices were affordable, and his office proceeded to discount them more for me as a freelancer with no insurance. The office is an unassuming little storefront on Mass Ave, but the quality of care was excellent. Just went today. By far the greatest cleaning and inspection I've ever had. The hygienist was incredibly careful and thorough, and Dr. Jradeh sat down with me for an extended period (relative to any other dentist) to examine my teeth and inform me about a misalignment that's gone undiagnosed my entire life. I've never had finer dental care, and at an extremely reasonable price. Even the receptionist is just an awesome person, and worked with my earlier cancellation with zero friction.
