I am so pleased of the services I've received at Lorna Lally, DMD. I am Dr. Dautaj patient and she has done an amazing job with my super natural looking veneers and overall dental care. The communication is great and there are no surprises. The doctor provides detailed descriptions about the services needed and plans are discussed prior anything is performed. 8 years ago, I had bleach poured down my throat by a dentist during a root canal. As my throat burned and I spontaneously vomited and had a panic attack, he told me there were "definitely no harmful chemicals" in what gulped, but I should drink some milk anyway just in case. Needless to say, I've taken a long hiatus from the dentist due to severe PTSD. I finally decided to go back (due to a broken tooth that forced me) and found THE BEST DENTAL PRACTICE IN THE WORLD. I told them my fears on the call, and the receptionist told me I had no reason to worry. It was a very non-judgmental practice and it'd all be fine. As soon as I walked in, I felt calm. The place is beautiful, the music was great and both people working the front desk were super sweet and welcoming! The hygienist is my new best friend. She *immediately* calmed me down and validated my experience and assured me I was in good hands. She is clearly experienced, has GREAT people skills and made me smile while also telling me I essentially had a rotten tooth. She made it seem like it was no big deal at all and I didn't feel any shame unlike prior experiences. Dr. Dautaj is also amazing. She walked in, told me she expected me to be an easy patient because my teeth are so straight, but surprise! They're rotten. Similarly, she looked through my X-rays and teeth and told me what the plan would be without making me feel ashamed. They scheduled me back the next day to put a temporary crown in before I got a root canal and the work was free of charge, other than the temporary crown. She said she just wanted to protect my tooth because she's a tooth lover! I've never been *happy* to spend 2 days at the dentist. And since I know I'll be spending a lot of time there over the next year... I'm happy I found a place where I feel comfortable, can listen to my murder podcasts while I get my teeth drilled and finally get my teeth taken care of! I know many people have dental fear like me... so I suggest you come here. You're in VERY good hands!! read more

I wanted to write this review because it has been such a different dental experience than prior ones. I've had the most awful experiences that have been incredibly scarring with a previous dental office (for example, nitrous oxide not properly administered during wisdom teeth removal, nightmares with a non-responsive billing department that would submit erroneous codes.) So my expectations were low. Dr. Lally's office has been kind, excellent in their work, and organized. The receptionists are always friendly and welcoming. I've also worked with a couple of the assistants, hygienists, Dr. Lally herself, and at least one other dentist (who isn't there anymore) - all have been great! It's true that appointments can sometimes be hard to come by if not scheduled way in advance, but they do have wait-lists for last minute cancellations, and if it's a true emergency - Dr. Lally finds ways to fit you in. The actual dental work itself - Dr. Lally is great at taking the time to explain everything and walk you through each step of what she's doing. She has a confident firm handle when it comes to her handiwork, but is also incredibly gentle. Also, when I needed a root canal, she had fantastic recommendations for orthodontists so that was a great experience as well. Billing. Wow. It's rare for me to say this about any medical/dental care billing, but they are organized and competent! They will often price check ahead of time for any work done (by actually running it by the insurance company), provide estimations whenever possible, and fight to appeal decisions on your behalf (in unfavorable), and in my experience, they have been very clear about expectations around payment and potential out of pocket expenses, etc. Thank you! read more

I have been coming here for several years now at the recommendation of a colleague and am very pleased with my experience. All the staff are very friendly and helpful. I have been cared for by both Drs. Lally and Dautaj and both are amazing ; truly passionate about caring for their patients. I am usually seen very close to my appointment time, rarely have to wait more than a few minutes. I've never had a billing issue like others have alluded to. I expect to pay for a part of my service and have never been deceived. The office is VERY clean and looks very modern, even the bathroom (yes I definitely care how the bathrooms look). My only complaint is trying to actually get an appointment here. They book pretty far out and it's tough for working people to get a decent appointment. I actually commute 50 mins to come here so I wish they had appointments later in the day so I can come after work or at least more flexible Saturday appointments. I usually have to plan months in advance and often go during my vacation week. And if for some reason you need to reschedule close to your date, you're pretty much screwed. They do have a wait list that they can put you on for cancellations but it's more like they call you to see if you can come next morning kind of thing. In either case, that's not really their fault either. Everyone needs time outside of work. Highly recommend this dental practice!!! I've never felt rushed here. I went here this morning. I'm starving and yet I don't want to eat lunch because my clean teeth feel *that* good. I've been a patient of Dr. Lally's for the last six years. I initially found her via Yelp and have stuck with her because in all my years of dental troubles (induced by a special blend of poor teenage habits, 28 sweet teeth, and awful oral genetics), I've never felt so comfortable at the dentist. Dr. Lally is wonderful, her hygienists are super gentle and kind, and the receptionists are totally on top of their insurance game. And the new building at 109 College Ave. is SWANKY. My appointment was over in 40 minutes but I didn't want to leave. I'm about to move all the way to Quincy and I'm still going to keep going here because even though going to the dentist is awful, going to Dr. Lally is a dream. read more

I have been seeing this dentist for just over a year now and I have had nothing but superior experiences. The offices are pleasant, clean, and very well supplied. The reception staff are all VERY friendly and helpful. When it comes to check-ups, they are always done in about 30-40 minutes (with the procedure itself, plus about 10 minutes for processing) and they are very thorough. They never offer any judgment and are nothing but friendly. When I had an intense amount of pain one day, they squeezed me in that very day and the dentist who saw me (I don't remember his name) did not seem rushed at all and explained to me what he thought the problem was. They referred me to Lexington Endodontics to get a root canal. Afterwards, I have visited them a few times to get a crown placed. And when my crown fell out recently, they also made sure to see me right away, taking the full hour to replace it even though I was late to my original half-hour appointment. Every time I go, they are VERY thorough with explaining to me what the problems are, what they are doing, and why without me ever having to ask. They always tell me what the options are and what they recommend and the pricing. Lorna is my usual dentist and she's extremely helpful and pleasant and also seems to have a very respectful and amicable relationship with her staff. Last note on this is that they also always provide shaded glasses, music or earphones, and a hand to hold in order to make procedures more pleasant. And lastly, they have always been very transparent and detailed with me about my insurance and what it will cover. They always call to remind me of my appointments. They are just a quality, thorough, conscientious, and considerate office and I'm very glad I chose them! read more

The actual service and treatment was good, but unfortunately that isn't how I'll end up remembering my experience here. It epitomized what seems to be so wrong wit the healthcare industry: shady unpredictable pricing. I set up an appointment, verified that they took my insurance (Delta Dental) and went from there. I put off seeing the dentist for far too long, so not surprisingly, I had a few cavities that had to be filled. The strange part was they they made me pay in full up front. Not sure if his is normal, but never had a doc do this before. Because I had a few cavities, my insurance still left a good chunk of change for me to cover. I was told that (even though they took Delta Dental) they didn't know how much I'd have left to pay. The receptionist said they they would just charge me the max, and I would get reimbursed whatever the difference was. Again, odd, but I'd rather be surprised that I had to pay less than pay more. A month later, I get a call call that I still owe them a bunch of money because insurance covered even less than they had anticipated! The fact that they have no idea how much one of the largest dental insurance plans reimburse for routine procedures is justification enough never to go there again. I must agree with Jameson B. This is a shady, money hungry place. I too made an appointment after calling and being assured they took my insurance and fell within the limits. (It was time to switch to a local dentist instead of making treks back to my hometown in NH.) I went in for a regular cleaning not expecting anything since I wasn't having any problems and had never had a cavity. After all the paperwork, the receptionist said I should get xrays. I explained I didn't want them unless they were fully covered. Once again, I was assured they would be. During the cleaning, the hygienist tried to sell me on a whitening procedure. I said I wasn't interested but she brought it up again. During the exam, Dr. Lally also pushed me to try the expensive whitening procedure. And she told me I had a cavity and could get it filled tomorrow. I thought this was odd since I'd never had one and had no pain, but I know it can happen. I had the filling the next day and was in lots of pain after. I went back and they adjusted it slightly but I was still left with pain. I knew I would have to pay some for the filling, but I received a bill for the cleaning and xrays too. This is after they confirmed my dental insurance covered it. That was enough to make me start my hunt for a new dentist. I contacted Dr. Lally's office about getting my xrays. Sure- we can give them to you for $50. What? I already paid $60 for them on top of what my insurance paid. I decided to pass By comparison; I visited a new dentist in Davis once before an unanticipated relocation out of state. The new dentist mailed me my xrays for free. Not to mention- the new dentist had a not so nice comment about the poor filling I had received. read more

The dentists and hygienists at this office are wonderful. Back in December, I had an old cavity filling that fell out unexpectedly. It was a Friday morning and my previous dentist wouldn't see me until Monday! There was no way I could wait the entire weekend. So I checked yelp and called Dr. Lally's office. They offered to see me right away even though I wasn't even a patient. I had Dr. Spargimino who was super nice. A few months later I had to have 2 crowns done. I was really nervous about the length of the appointment- over 2 hours and the amount of work that had to be done! This time I had Dr. Lally and Jensy, one of the hygienists. The appointment was really long but they both made it as comfortable as possible and were exceptionally nice. I highly recommend the office to anyone but especially those who are nervous about dental work! It's possible the prices are higher but to me it's 100% worth it to be comfortable. read more

I never thought I would say this, but going to the dentist is a very pleasant experience! I hadn't been to a dentist in years, so needless to say, I was a little nervous about having my first routine exam in a long time. After reading positive reviews about this office, finding out they accepted my insurance (Delta Dental), and having an easy time getting an appointment, I decided to come in. For my routine exam, I saw Dr. Baker and one of the female hygienists. Both ladies were super nice, attentive, and thorough, making my first visit back hassle-free and stress-free. They took a full set of x-rays of my mouth, cleaned my teeth, gave me a special fluoride treatment, and sent me off with a bag of goodies including a new toothbrush, floss, vitamin c gum, and a referral to a doctor who can take my wisdom teeth out. On my second visit, I called last minute because I had a tooth that was throbbing and I really wanted someone to take a look at it. I saw Dr. Lally this time around, and she was also great. Turns out I had my very first cavities ever, and they were able to see me right away and took care of them for me. I had 4 small cavities filled and they walked me through each step so I knew what to expect when I received the Novocaine injection, what kind of filling was going into each tooth, what to expect after treatment was done, etc. The only down side was the cost of the dentist work. Honestly, I don't know if dental work has always been this expensive or has just gotten crazy expensive as of late, but I did have a bit of sticker shock when I received the bill. Even with 80% covered by my insurance, I still had to pay almost $300 to get my cavities filled, and it would have been way more expensive ($174 per tooth) if I didn't have any insurance at all. My advice to anyone making an appointment is to get an estimate for services before having the services completed, otherwise you may be just as surprised as I was. At least that way you can save up for specific procedures, provided that you're not in to much pain to wait. read more

I'm confused about some of the negative reviews here, as I believe this is one of the best dentists I've ever been to. I have a severe fear of dentists, and would have a borderline anxiety attack just thinking about going. This dentist has been so great, my anxiety is much more manageable. I know they are going to be kind, not judgy, and will give me great advice on things I can do to help my teeth (Xylitol sprays, etc...). If I could give 10 stars, I would. Situation: I visited Dr. Lorna Lally's office for a 2nd opinion. Previous prognosis from ANOTHER dentist stated I was HIGHLY likely to lose 2 teeth due to an acute infection! Yikes! Not to mention he was already talking about bio material and implants down the road. This surprised me, as my previous dentist stated that I had to move quickly on this as the infection will move and affect other teeth along that gum line. Today I had my follow up with Dr. Lally's office ... ALL CLEAR. Gum is in good condition, no infection. I'm not losing any teeth !!! I am one happy lady today! I had my routine cleaning this morning and was reminded of how much I love Dr. Lally's office. I've been seeing Dr. Lally and her team for nearly two years now, and I have no complaints. Everyone I've ever interacted with here has been friendly and professional. The hygienist, Natalia, does a very thorough job and has tons of cool little tips for keeping your mouth healthy. She's always mentioning a training or conference that she's recently attended -- I really like the idea that there is continuing education and professional development going on at the office. Dr. Lally is great too. She always puts me at ease and makes sure that I am very informed about what's going on with my dental health. I haven't had any problems with billing or any of the shady practices that other reviewers have mentioned. In fact, I've found just the opposite to be true. They're always very forthcoming about how much I can expect to pay for any given procedure. They've even helped me schedule things strategically, in a way that gets the most out of my insurance. I actually look forward to going to the dentist because everyone at Dr. Lally's office is so awesome. If that doesn't deserve five stars, I don't know what does. read more

This has to be one of the best dentists' offices ever! The staff at Dr. Lally's office is wonderful. They are kind, attentive and do fantastic work. The office is very cute and welcoming. The appointments always run on time and the people there are very friendly. I have been here 3 times now and each time was a great experience (as great as going to the dentist can be!) On my first visit there we did a complete x-ray set and cleaning. The hygienist did a very through job and was also very sweet. She made the entire process go smoothly. On my second visit Dr. Baker did my filling (the 1st one ever) and she did a wonderful job. She is very friendly and kind which is a lot more than I can say for most dentists! About as painless as a dental appointment gets. The receptionist was very friendly and even shook my hand to introduce herself. That was something I had never experienced. The office is in a house, and it feels like you are visiting a friend. The woman who did my cleaning and x-rays was super friendly and thorough. They did things to my teeth that I have never had done at other facilities. Like a gum disease test. I only met with Dr. Lally briefly, but she was very informative about the results of my exam. I got a complimentary bag with a tooth brush, xylitol gum, and other dental care products. With Delta Dental insurance, the exam and cleaning were free. The receptionist was very honest with me when I inquired about rates for sealants. She told me straight up that my insurance would not cover it, it would be fifty some dollars per tooth, and six teeth would need sealants. Overall, great experience. read more

I like this dentist office. We've been going here now two years - we being my husband and I. The dental hygienists are amazing. I found that mine remembered me every time and even remembered asking about my son (since I had started attending the dentist practice while pregnant). They also promptly issue reminders when it comes time for that annual or bi-annual check up. As for the comments on shady dealings - I have never encountered this. Actually, I found that the staff went out of their way to check up on whether my insurance would cover a procedure prior to scheduling a time to have the procedure done. With this pre-check in place - we always received billing as expected. I suspect, it depends on who is covering your insurance as per what you would need to pay. BECAUSE of my dental hygienist's expert care - making my teeth feel squeaky clean - I have since taken more care at flossing and even brushing. Dr. Lally provides a very different experience from what I had with other dentists. First, she is not condescending: she asks questions not assuming she knows the answers; second, she is considerate and caring: when injecting anesthetic, she tickled my lip to distract my attention; third, she is trustworthy: she provides options for me to choose from. All these plus an extremely cute office (with no People magazine subscription) is just welcoming. I chipped one of my front teeth and was able to get an appointment the following day. I was worried about how much new bonding would cost sans dental insurance, but it ended up being considerably less than I expected. The whole appointment took less than 45 minutes. My tooth looks and feels better than before. Dr. Lally and her staff are remarkably nice. I've just recently moved to the Cambridge area and needed a new dentist. Based on the other reviews, I decided to schedule an appointment with Dr. Lally. I called them and got an appointment for the next day - pretty quick, I'd say. Her office is really nice; parking is available on street (2 hour parking, no meter), but they also have two spots in a nearby church's parking lot, if you can't find a spot. All rooms are really clean and well decorated. Their equipment seems to be new and everything works properly. Since this was my first visit, I was asked to fill some paperwork (dental history, insurance information, HIPAA forms, etc.) - standard procedure. Then, I saw a dentist that I don't recall the name. One thing I do remember is that she is from Tibet. She was really friendly and we chatted a few minutes. Then, she took x-rays of all my teeth, did some measuring on gum inflammation and started the cleaning. It was one of the best cleanings I've ever had. She was really meticulous and seemed to be trying really hard to clean every little spot. What else can I say? My teeth feel very clean - and that's pretty much it! :) After the cleaning, Dr. Lally arrived and did a final comprehensive evaluation of my mouth. It was really quick, but informative. Overall, it was a really good experience - as pleasant as a dentist appointment can get. I will be returning for a couple of fillings - nothing major or urgent, though. read more

Everyone there, from the receptionist to the dentist, is so nice and welcoming. They make me feel very comfortable, and their kindness and humility are authentic. Lorna's the best, and her team are competent, nice, and have an effervescent quality about them which makes it very easy to fantasize about switching careers so you can hang out with them more. They're always very complimentary of my teeth, which really helps with my self esteem. Just had a great first time visit at this dentist office. At first I was a little concerned with it being at a house converted into an office. But somehow that made me feel a little more comforted. First time visit. X-Rays, Cleaning, Exam, Discussion of Payment options - 1 hour 10 min from time walking into the door until walking out. I did not get checked by Dr. Lally herself. However, the dentist I did see (I feel I would butcher her name) did a fantastic job. She me feel very comfortable and confident in what she told me. I felt that they gave it to me straight up and let me know what needs to be done now and what can wait and even how long it can wait for (1 year, 2 years, etc.). Also they just got this new digital system that is wonderful for helping the patient to visualize everything. The hygienist, Natalia, was fantastic. She gave me so many good tips on how to keep my gums healthier. She was very efficient and friendly in the cleaning as well. Finally, the receptionist/billing specialist, Marcy, was more patient then any other dentist office person I've dealt with, even though I could tell she was very busy with other things. She sat there with me and my complicated insurance plan and did the math for several financial options. She even gave me the list of the payment schedule that the office has with Delta Dental so that I can see for myself just how much each procedure costs and then could figure out how much my insurance covers from there. She explained my coverage to me better than any HR person at my work has. She even went over the different ways this office can help me to be able to afford the work that needs to be done. If you want to complain about this office, maybe you should just stop neglecting your teeth then and you won't have to see the dentist. Otherwise, they do more than they can to help people take care of a part of the human body that so many people take for granted. read more

Dr Lally is very good with children, My son is autistic and he had issues seeing another Dentist. He does not give me a hard time when it is time to go see Dr Lally and due to her coaching he brushes his teeth everynight without issue. This was a huge change for us. Great dentists - the cleaning staff changes not the same person each time. But problematic is the fact that the front desk has changed in a year dramatically and is bordering on unfriendly to accommodate schedules. They used to be quite flexible to put on cancellation lists. Now if you want an appointment rescheduled, it may be six months before they even call you back for another one. Dr. Lally is a great dentist. She is super fast, very efficient and very funny. Besides the lecture on how Splenda would kill me young, she had nothing but funny little antic dotes to keep my mind off the fact that I was at the dentist. And Dolly is just the sweetest little old lady... she was enamored with the fact that my roommates and I actually ate cereal for breakfast and had a lot of questions about it. I have seen Dr Lally for almost 20 years and the treatment quality, sensibility to pain, treatment options and simply the kindness and fun displayed by her and her staff are unmatched. 1. I wouln't blame the dentist's office for what another reviewer temed "shady practices." - I too have Delta Dental, and had a similar experience with hoped-for coverage that did not materialize. The office person at Dr. Lally's seemed to be quite competent. I think the problem may be with the insurance companies, which are notorious for changing their practices and coverage with little or no notice. Plus, Delta is one of cheaper, less helpful plans -- you get what you pay for. I'm looking for another plan. 2. I gave four instead of five stars only because I've had few appts. and I cannot yet judge long term success of the treatments, but I agree that the office is restful and clean, and the personnel outstanding. I'm recommending them to my local friends. read more

I was formerly a patient of Dr. Low and I can honestly say I like Dr. Lally about 75% more. Not that he wasn't competent or anything, he knew his job but Dr. Lally is MUCH more forthcoming and approachable. She is always kind, courteous and soothing, which is TANTAMOUNT when dealing with a dentist, for sure. I love Dolly the dental hygienist too, always a pleasure seeing her! I'm getting two fillings soon and I am actually looking forward to the visit (and the gas). I know I sound like that Bill Murray character in Little Shop of Horrors.. read more
