It did take a while for their wait list to open up enough that I could get in, but once I did, I'm happy to have found my new dentistry after moving to Somerville! Dr. Rosie and all of her team are kind, friendly and will make sure you feel as comfortable as possible, in a usually uncomfortable experience. Dr. Rosie is very thorough and so far I have no complaints, luckily I don't have any kind of dental complications so I'm not sure how getting an appointment might be like if you had some kind of emergency, but I was able to get a couple of fillings done within a week of my initial cleaning appointment when we found the cavities. Heated neck pillow during the exam, and a warm towel to wipe your face after, it's the little things but hey, I'll take them over not having them! read more

The staff at this practice is very nice and inclusive, but it is IMPOSSIBLE to get an appointment here. I previously had to book them over a year in advance and then in December when I needed to reschedule, they said the next available appointment was in May and I'd have to call then to get an appointment. I am very skeptical this will get me an appointment because it has been so difficult in the past. If you don't want to wait, you can get added to their cancellation list which means getting an email about an appointment about 2 hours before the actual appointment. You then have to race to be the first to say you want it, only to have it booked by someone else less than a minute after the first email. I don't understand why the cancellations are such short notice when they charge a $50 fee for less than 24 hours notice. I would think most people are cancelling before that to avoid being charged, and yet the people waiting never hear about those appointments. Honestly, it goes against their policies of inclusion because most people with a lower socioeconomic status are not able, or cannot afford, to cut out of work for an appointment in 2 hours. In addition, individuals with a lower socioeconomic status are significantly less likely to have regular dental checkups, brush twice a day, increased risk of oral disease, etc (Park, Han, Park, & Ko, 2016), which suggests these people are the ones who need it the most. I'm sure Dr. Rosie knows all this, but I think about it every time I get a short notice email. They also encourage you to only get a cleaning once a year (NOT for your health, but because they have been overbooking patients for at least the last 2 years and can't fit people in every 6 months), which contradicts everything any dentist has ever told me. I haven't had a cleaning with them in over a year and a half and no one has checked in or seemed to care. Also, I pay for insurance that covers 2 cleanings a year so it seems like a waste of money to not use it. This is the best dental practice ever. I actually look forward to going to the dentist (in fact, my next appointment is super close to my birthday, and I think that's a good birthday present to myself). I have horrible dental anxiety that stems from not having dental insurance as a child and having a mother who liked to remind me of that whenever I needed dental work. I avoided the dentist as an adult, even when I had insurance. I went to one practice in 2011, and it was not good. I avoided the dentist for 5 more years. I finally came to Rosie. The first thing she asked me was how I felt about about the dentist. I explained my reasoning to her, and she did her best to reassure me that she would make this as comfortable as she could. I had a really great cleaning where I got to choose my toothpaste flavor and pandora station. I was also given a heated neck pillow and lavender face cloth. The best part about this practice is that there are no lectures and they are not judgmental. When they do give suggestions, they do it in a caring way. Rosie is amazing at what she does. She is not one to drill your teeth. Instead, she marks a tooth to look at it next time to avoid any unnecessary drilling. Also, she has the most calming presence and voice. I did get a filling here recently. After I got numbed up, I received an orthopedic neck massage with essential oils. I was so relaxed. When Rosie came in, I told her that I was terrified of being able to feel the work being done. She reassured me and did several tests with puffs of air to make sure I could not feel a thing. This place is amazing. My coworkers go here. My husband goes here. I wish my dog could go here. Yes, there can be a waitlist for new patients, but it is so worth it. Called on Aug 7 for appointment. Next available was for October 16. After asking to be placed on the cancellation list for Friday's I was informed Tuesday August 11 that there was an opening for Friday the 14th. Score! I arrived the standard 15 min early to fill out new patient paperwork but soon discovered NO PARKING. After driving around for 5 min I parked outside the office (permit parking only) to ask where I should park and the receptionist told me Stop & Shop. After driving down the street to the grocery store I immediately noticed the signs "Parking for customers only. Violators will be towed." I called the office to inform them and the receptionist assured me I could. I reluctantly parked hoping I wouldn't be towed. After arriving at the office, now 5 minutes late, I learned there wasn't any paperwork to fill out! Double score. I was only asked to sign the HIPPA form. I did my Yelp check in and got an offer for $50 to a restaurant. The receptionist wasn't very warm and told me it was "wrong" then stated I had to pay upfront before being seen. While trying to transfer money into my checking from savings through my bank app she became a little impatient. After swiping my card I asked for the receipt to for my insurance claim and she snapped I'll get it at the end of the visit. My thoughts: then take the payment at that time. After a few minutes Jessica popped out to bring me back. She was very friendly and offered customize the Pandora station and brought me in a warm neck pillow then stepped out. Dr. Rosie came in to personally do my patient history. I loved that. I didn't feel like a number but an engaged patient. Nice touch Dr. Rosie! After going over my medical history she left and sent Jessica back for the cleaning. Jessica is amazingly thorough and has a very gentle touch. After the cleaning I was given a warm lavender scented towel for my face. WHAT!? :D Is this a spa or a dental office. I'm in LOVE! Dr. Rosie came back for the exam we talked about my concerns and invisalign (she doesn't have it here but had recommendations). Never thought I would be leaving a positive dentist review but ta-da, here I am! I've been with SBR for over a year now. Had about 3 cleanings now and a couple of appointments for fillings. Flavia, the hygienist who has done two of my cleanings is a gem. Truly a delight and has a very calming presence that calms my ever present dentist visit nerves. For the first time in my life, cleanings are enjoyable. They give you a warm neck cloth, let you pick the music, let you choose the polish flavor(get strawberry!) and the whole atmosphere is so calm and lovely. Both Dr. Rosie and Dr Anna(who did my fillings) are great and make you feel at ease. From the moment I had my first appointment I never felt judged. I spent years neglecting my teeth as a child/teen, and my previous dentists would never fail to point it out and remind me. They don't care about what you've done with your teeth previously, they just care about helping you take care of them now and in the future. read more

Finding a new dentist without recommendations feels impossible sometimes. I moved back to the area and had a difficult time from others' reviews finding someone who I felt comfortable and confident could give me a good exam and potentially do future work for me. I'll say I had a least one pretty horrible experience, which left me hesitant to look for other providers. Luckily, my friend helped me out after he recommended Smiles By Rosie. My first visit to Rosie was like no dentist visit I've ever had before. Everyone was very helpful and friendly. I don't have significant anxiety around going to the dentist, but they acknowledged that some people do and offered me tools to help relieve any anxiety, including hot stones and a lavender-scented neck pillow. And I know what you think, these probably were at added expenses...but they weren't! When I met Rosie herself, she helped complete an extremely thorough medical history and exam--definitely the most thorough history conducted by a dentist I've ever had. In addition to the thorough, friendly, helpful staff, they have new tools and devices to help perform their work. This is one of the first places I've been where the assistants and dentists can be in the room while x-rays are being taken with a new tool that helps to shield them from the radiation. And that's just one example of the advanced technology they use! I've recommended Rosie to friends, but it sounds like they aren't always accepting new patients and sometimes have a long wait list, which is unfortunate. I was a patient with Dr Rosie for almost more than 2 years and i was super happy back then with their services. Dr Rosie is an honest dentist i have met. I had in fact referred her to many of my friends which in turn was a word-of-mouth marketing for her from a satisfied customer. Recently this place has turned out into a joke for patients. They have this super annoying way to schedule an appointment where you basically need to fight over an email and probably show your skills of how quick you can be to reply an email. (Some spots that were opened were like an hour later from when the email were sent) Come-on are you serious? This is a dentistry practice and not a game show kind of something. After trying that for 5-6 times, (once i replied like 1 min after when the email was sent still i dint get the spot) and completely frustrated, i called over today to get and appointment over the phone. The receptionist (not to my surprise) mentions they are all booked until April '20. My last appointment with Smiles by Rosie was January '19. Usually your dentist should care about the patient if they aint seeing you every 6 months but this place doesn't care at all. They are prioritizing getting new patients and dont care of old patients at all. After speaking about my concern, receptionist said, since they are fully booked, they can refer me to one of the Dr Rosie's friend's clinic. Are you serious? With my frustration, i said to completely take off my name from the patient list and not even care about their reference. I think they are so confident that there are no good dentists out there than the ones who work here. Its been super sad to see this place grow into a "business" rather than a happy dentist place from what it was before. IF you are NEW patient here, wait until you become an old patient. Dear Yelp: Can you please implement a SIX star system?? Because Smiles by Rosie is that amazing! I actually don't ever want to move away from the Boston area because I'm convinced I'll never find another dentist as wonderful as she is. Like many other commenters here, I suffer from severe dental anxiety due to a few bad procedures in the past. My main fear is needles. It was this fear and anxiety that kept me from going to the dentist for years, even though I knew I needed to or else would face a lot more pain later on. I did a lot of research for Boston-based dentists, and Smiles by Rosie was consistently at the top. I joined the waiting list, and kept putting off scheduling an appointment despite receiving the emails about openings. Finally, one day, spurred on by a dull ache in one of my teeth, I bit the bullet, jumped at an open spot and scheduled my first appointment. I first went in for a general cleaning and teeth check-up. Everyone in the office was incredibly nice, and my hygienist was great. They offer a warm neck pillow and you get to choose the music you want to listen to as well as your preferred toothpaste flavor. After I got my cleaning and x-rays, Dr. Rosie came in to talk to me. The first question she asked is if I have dental anxiety, which gave me a chance to explain how I feel about the dentist. She then went over my x-rays, and explained that I would need to have fillings done at a later date. She was very thorough and provided a lot of detail about the procedure, which I really appreciated. Fast forward a few months, the time came for my fillings. I was very nervous and opted for the laughing gas. It is completely worth the price for those who have bad anxiety! Dr. Rosie gave me as much time as I needed before the injections, which is so much better than them jumping right in when I'm not ready. Between the nitrous oxide making me feel more relaxed and the numbing gel they put on my gums, I absolutely did not feel a thing when they gave me the shot! Dr. Rosie very calmly and gently told me what she was doing, and she said I might feel a slight pinch, but I honestly did not feel anything. Absolutely amazing! I didn't know pain-free dental procedures like this could exist! Before she started the procedure, she did a few tests to make sure everything was good and numb. Throughout the filling, Dr. Rosie gave me a play-by-play of what I would feel (vibrations, pressure, etc.) and what she was doing. When all was said and done, I felt relaxed and I was thrilled that I experienced zero pain. I had some soreness the next day, but mainly from keeping my mouth open for a long period of time. Dr. Rosie even sent a text message the day after to ask how I was feeling - I'm aware this is probably an automated feature, but it was a nice touch nonetheless! All in all, Smiles by Rosie is absolutely incredible! She is by far the best dentist I have ever been to, and I now actually look forward to seeing her again. read more

I came to Rosie with a few decades worth of severe, atypical dental needs. No other dentist would talk to me, at age 29, about full dentures... but Rosie would. She was happy to assess the situation objectively, talk with me about risks and benefits, and found me an oral surgeon who was willing to work with me. She did phenomenal care at every step of the process and made sure my needs came first. I also get to visit SBR as the parent of two young patients, and so I know Rosie's pediatric skills are just as remarkable as her abilities with adult "difficult" patients (ahem, hello). My four year old has independent visits, complete with their choice of toothpaste flavor and the Moana soundtrack on Pandora. Rosie even has offered us the option of silver diamine fluoride instead of fillings for a couple small cavities on baby teeth, which means easier care and less anxiety for everyone. I cannot imagine going back to a conventional dental practice that isn't consent-first. Every other dentist had better be taking notes. read more

Totally cool, caring, accepting and super informative! I haven't been to the dentist in awhile and there was no judgement. I arrived early and was taken in pretty quickly. Erika, the hygienist took the time to speak with me regarding my concerns and offered various solutions that would fit my lifestyle and budget. I am very excited to have a found a great dentist, close to home that accepts my insurance! There is a long waitlist to get in but there are sometimes several cancellations per week so you can get in sooner. I recommend creating an email in drafts with your name, date of birth, phone number, address, insurance carrier, insurance ID number and the name of subscriber in case an appointment pops up that fits your needs. They go pretty quickly so you need to be quick on the draw. I copied and pasted mine from the drafts into the response and I was good to go! Nice touches: choose your own music and the lovely lavander scented cloth at the end! You will get that nowhere else! read more

I made an appointment for MONTHS in the future, but was willing to do so because of the great reviews. Less than two weeks before my appointment, I get an email that the dentist will not even be there! How is that logical? I can get a cleaning anywhere, I made an appointment to be seen by a dentist. You can be fired by your service provider for posting online reviews Less than a week from my review, I receive a registered mail from the practice that both my daughters and wife are dismissed as patients. The two page letter started with how I arrived late for the appointment and how they had to bend over backwards to accommodate us; and then went on to describe how I am abusive and unprofessional to call them out for poor service and behavior. While I appreciate any business standing by their team (a top notch quality and kudos to them), one needs to be a little less touchy about such things and possibly approach the customer fairly and ask if there was something wrong. When Rosie had to cancel my temporary crown appointment, the front desk told me to make an appointment with Smiles Over Somerville instead, which I did. There I apparently was given the wrong treatment and charged 3X as much than what Smiles By Rosie had originally told me. It turned out that Smiles By Rosie had never called Smiles Over Somerville to even fill them in about my situation. When I tried to get Smiles By Rosie to intervene and help, they told me it wasn't their fault that the other office (that THEY told me to make an appointment with) had charged me so much more. When I asked them to pay the difference (or even just acknowledge that they had mismanaged my treatment), Rosie told me she wouldn't be answering any more emails from me and completely stopped communicating. I was told by the main dentist that I was not allowed to listen to contemporary music while my visit there due to the other people around me. I felt in shock and I just said okay. I had a dentist appointment today. They were running behind and weren't able to get me in until 20 minutes after my appointment time. In that time, three people apologized to me for the wait, and they sent me a $25 Amazon gift card to say thanks for my patience! Totally above and beyond. But this isn't even the best thing about this dentist. They also play whatever Pandora station you want, offer a heated pillow for your neck, and offer you a swab of essential oil of your preference to scent the room if you like. The level of thoughtful attention to the whole experience is outstanding. And that's not even getting to the actual dentistry experience. They tell you everything they're doing in a really careful way. "Now I'm going to blow some air on this tooth ... Okay, blowing now." I'm not a nervous dental customer, and even for me, this is a kind of thoughtful attention to the patient as person, the level of ingrained respect for the people they're working with ... I don't feel like it's an exaggeration to call it revolutionary. read more

Six reasons I dig being a patient here: 1) My appointments always start on time. This gives me the impression that they are organized, professional, and respect my time. 2) Their facility is fairly high tech. 3) No expense is spared to maximize my comfort: heated neck pillow, a blanket, aromatherapy, neck massages, and they even let me pick the Pandora station. 4) They use technology to their advantage. Text, email, phone, their custom portal-- there are several ways for me to confirm, cancel, and reschedule. 5) They pre-authorize all of my work, so no surprises from my health provider. 6) Excellent atmosphere, lovely art hangs on the walls. I contacted Dr Wagner the same day I broke my tooth and she called right back. After a few emails back and forth I booked an appoinment for the intial checkup. The office is brand spanking new which is nice and parking is on the street. Also, it looks like she has a little play room for kids while mom or dad is having treatment. Her practice is to pay for any or all procedures BEFORE treatment and she prepares with a cost breakdown for you before your actual appointment. I welcome this because I don't particularly like being blind- sided with a $500 bill! ;) The office is located in East Somerville behind Louis' ice cream. A great addition to the area!! read more

My experience with Dr. Rosie has been beyond disappointing. My son has been a patient of Dr. Rosie's since he was born (4 and half years ago), and just recently, after having done extensive research on the subject, I requested to opt out of ROUTINE x-rays. I emphasize that I am not against x-rays in general (and made that clear in my request), but that, as recommended by some of the most respected medical organizations in the country (see the campaign https://www.imagegently.org/), I'd like x-rays be prescribed when there is an actual reason to do so, especially in pediatric patients with primary denture. Very surprisingly, Dr. Rosie's response to my request was a message to inform me that she was no longer be able to retain Gael as a patient at her practice, the message being decorated by the very puzzling statement: "For instance, he will actually get less radiation if we take xrays than if we don't!". Really? At that point, needing a new dentist locally (Somerville), I sent a quick survey to the parents of my child's pre-school friends. The result? All of those who responded told me that their children (same age like my son, around five years old) had, at the most, ONE x-ray taken in five years, some of them had no x-rays taken at all. I do not dispute Dr. Rosie right to kick patients out of her practice for whatever reason -- although that is delicate territory in the medical practice -- and I understand that patients who opt out of routine x-rays are much less profitable. On the other hand, as parents, we also have the right to do what we think it is best for our children. So, if you prefer a more integrated approach to dentistry and believe that routine x-rays is not what you want for them, do not be fooled into thinking that that is the norm, since it is not. Ask around, talk to people to get more information, and do not waste your time with Dr. Rosie. read more

I can't stress my dental anxiety enough because it isn't possible. I have to take anxiety medication to even try to think of going but today I went to Smiles By Rosie and was completely in awe of the wonderful experience I was fortunate to have. The staff is absolutely amazing. They're all very sweet and understanding of your concerns. Everyone will go out of their way to calmly explain to you everything, from the procedures to even helping ease your anxiety and concerns. I only had a cleaning to day (and a very deep one as I hadn't been to the dentist in a long time) and I can confidently say that, even though it was a rough cleaning, I enjoyed it! It sounds weird but it's true! The hot rocks, lavender sheet, and warm pillow really helped comfort me and the music in the background was very relaxing. I really enjoyed my experience here and I never thought I could ever say that about a dentist's office. There is a long waiting list but if you're perseverant and positive, you can get in ahead of schedule! My appointment was supposed to be a year from now but I saw the email they usually send when there's an open spot and quickly replied to their message with my information, which I had typed down on a note in my phone so I could copy paste it quickly on their email message. If you don't do that, odds are someone else will get the appointment. The last time I tried, the appointment was filled within two minutes of having received the email. It's safe to say this office is a popular spot. All in all, amazing place, amazing staff, amazing service! Can't recommend them enough! read more

Finally, the dentist office just for me. And also the rest of the anxious, touch-shy, noise-and-sensation-averse population. There are three reasons I hadn't been to the dentist in two years: I'm terrified of phone calls. (My old dentist called me just last week and needs to stop.) Making my appointment through a single, simple web page plus some follow-up emails was like being in a beautiful cloud of the future as it should be. I also, surprise, have a lot of internalized guilt about my tooth-cleaning habits. My teeth were surprisingly okay after two years but I have no doubt that no matter their state, Rosie and Jessica would have been equally pragmatic and chill. Three, I'm transgender, and my name and appearance are at odds; no one even blinked. This can get awful when seeking medical care, but it wasn't -- again, the future as it should be. Everyone made me feel comfortable and involved in my own care. I appreciate that Rosie went over my entire medical history (very efficiently!) and offered resources for mental health stuff like it was no big deal. When I was first trying to deal with mental health I had no idea where to get help, and having that offered without judgment or awkward questioning is, frankly, incredible. First off - I hate the dentist! Probably more than anything else. I have serious dental anxiety. I've always had the worst experience at any dentist I've ever been to...until I went to Smiles By Rosie!! Everyone is friendly...and not in the fake "we have to be friendly because it's our job" way, but actually really nice. I haven't encountered one person that wasn't pleasant to deal with, so that's a great start. The place is welcoming & painted a nice relaxing purple. They always ask what music you would like to hear during your visit, offer you a warm neck pillow, and give you a pair of (throw-away) sunglasses if you'd like them. They aren't the most comfortable things, but it's a nice gesture. They also tell you that you're welcome to listen to your iPod or wear your own sunglasses and just generally make you feel as comfortable as possible while your sitting in that dreadful chair. Dr. Wagner is wonderful. She's not judgmental and doesn't make you feel guilty for not flossing as much as you should...although she will suggest it like a good dentist! I really liked the fact that she asked me if I wanted her to explain what she was doing as she was doing it, explain it before and not say anything during, or if I'd rather not know anything at all. I've never been included in those decisions before and I greatly appreciated it. I hate hearing about what's going on as it's happening...just tell me beforehand and let me zone out! Also, they do all the "paperwork" digitally, which is nice and will send emails & texts to remind you of appointments. They aren't pushy about getting anything done and are very up front about costs/insurance info/payments...so there is no guessing. I've never seen that from a dentist's office before! Overall, it's a miracle that I actually found a dentist that doesn't make me want to run screaming from the building the minute I sit in the chair. I highly recommend Smiles By Rosie!! read more

So I just had my first visit at Smiles By Rosie. I've never been to more welcoming, relaxing professional dental practice in my life. Every member of the staff there was friendly and cheerful. I arrived early and my appointment started early (which is unheard of), already setting the positive tone of the visit. The xrays were quick and through, with no pieces of xray paper cutting my mouth. My cleaning was quick and gentle, thanks to a very talented hygienist. I got to choose my preferred flavor of polish paste (go for vanilla, its delicious). Next I got the pleasure of meeting and talking with Dr. Rosie. Dr. Rosie and Flavia are amazing! I finally quit my old dentist because the cleanings hurt so much. I have really sensitive teeth and my annual cleaning was beyond traumatic. I went to Dr. Rosie and Flavia and they listened to my concerns and took a cleaning approach that was nearly painless (go Flavia!). Before I went I was a nervous wreck. But now I'm not so scared anymore! Dr. Rosie has an incredible staff, environment, culture, and process that shines through every step of the way. First let me start by saying I don't like going to the dentist. I have never once felt even the remote bit excited or happy about the dentist. In fact when I finally got the courage it had been about 4 years since my last cleaning. If any of these descriptions are you: - you are convinced that getting hit with a dump truck is better than going to the dentist - it has been years since your last cleaning and you're embarrassed or afraid you'll be judged - you're terrified it's going to hurt and don't understand why anybody would voluntarily subject themselves to such medieval torture - you're afraid going to the dentist will unexpectedly bankrupt you ... Please just take a deep breath and make an appointment. I promise you won't regret it! Or if you need to actually be convinced you can read this review: Before scheduling my first appointment Kelli the office manager was super helpful navigating my somewhat obscure dental insurance policy. Before walking in the door I knew what I would be paying upfront while waiting for potential reimbursement - I really appreciate being able to have the monetary cost known which takes the stress out of being whacked with a big bill I was totally financially unprepared for (another reason I generally don't like the dentist). When I arrived for my appointment the check-in process was super easy - and entirely electronic. I took a comfortable seat in the waiting room and hopped on the wi-fi. Dr. Rosie was running a touch late (like not even 15 minutes or so) but I was checked in on twice to make sure I didn't think I was forgotten about. Of course I understand things can happen that cause a medical professional to run behind but I greatly appreciated being kept in the loop. Dr. Rosie strives to be consistently on-time and I don't doubt that delay was a fluke. Erika, the dental hygienist who did my cleaning, was wonderful. She did a full set of x-rays - painless, did some gum measurement thing - also painless, and my cleaning - unbelievably painless. She really took her time and although she was incredibly thorough (which really is what you want when you're having your teeth cleaned) she was so gentle - trust me when I say that I never flinched once. I don't think I've EVER had a cleaning where I'm not leaving in discomfort. She also didn't make me feel like a horrible human being for not having been to the dentist in awhile or make me feel dumb - which trust me I've also experienced previously. Extra bonuses: - choose your own Pandora station - disposable sunglasses so you're not blinded by the light in your eyes - choose your own flavor of toothpaste (if you're 30 and want bubble gum you can have it) - warm (lavender) towel to freshen up after your cleaning - tea in the waiting room - wi-fi in the waiting room - e-mail communication with the office - text message reminder day of your appointment - near Sullivan Square (Orange Line), and multiple busses that go down Broadway (89/101), as well as free parking at the big Stop & Shop lot right around the corner Dr. Rosie met with me briefly after my cleaning and said she would send me my treatment plan and set up a longer appointment to go over my x-rays and necessary fillings. Since it had been so long since my last cleaning I wasn't actually shocked by the diagnosis that I had some cavities. The next day this was e-mailed to me along with a pre-authorization going to my dental insurance company so yet again - I'm actually going to have an idea of what this work will cost me. I'm not thrilled at the prospect of having fillings but trust me when I say there isn't a single other dentist that I have ever been to that I trust as much as I trust Dr. Rosie and her team - so rather than go crawling under a rock I will make my follow up appointment. I really think her practice may be what starts me on a path to true dental health for the first time in my life! read more

Rosie's office is the most relaxed, friendly and reassuring dental office I've ever been to. Rosie and her staff were nice and helpful, and the cleaning was a breeze. The office decor was relaxing and comfortable, and they give you the option to play a Pandora station while you're in the chair. Some good jazz makes the dental experience 200% better. The office and workflow is also modern and paperless. Rosie could email me my treatment plan from the computer while I watched ,and all the forms I signed were on touchscreen. As a former Gentle Dental patron, this was a completely new and great experience. Can't recommend highly enough. read more

Smiles by Rosie is the most friendly dentist's office I've ever been to. The staff are all incredibly kind and gentle, the receptionist is on her game, and Dr. Rosie herself is fantastic. The office has beautiful touches around it--local artwork, mobiles in each room over the dreaded dentist chair (they're pretty comfortable, by the way), soothing lavender walls. They give you a warm neck pillow at the beginning and a lavender scented cloth for your face at the end, sunglasses to shade your eyes from the bright light they need to see in your mouth, and you can pick your pandora station for the appointment. Their tech is state-of-the-art. I mean, magic portable x-ray gun that transfers your pics right to their computer! They don't hassle about not flossing or whatever, just clean you up and set you up as well as they can for good habits going forward. Also, I was tongue tied (couldn't stick out my tongue), which bothered me from time to time when I had to talk a lot at work, and Dr. Rosie told me she could fix it! We did the procedure and it was super successful. So, in case you've never heard that you could get yours fixed, you can! My teeth are in better shape than they ever have been, and I have an autoimmune disease that attacks them. Highly recommend Smiles by Rosie. I trust her to keep my mouth in great shape. read more

I went to Rosie's for the first time yesterday afternoon, during a hectic work day, and was pleasantly surprised. * Parking - free 2hr parking out front, if you can find it (or permit parking on-street) * Decor - japanese screens, local art on the walls, purple paint, 'wood' floors. Warm and cozy. * Paperless - sign on screen, email confirmations / appointment reservations. * Zen corner - for meditating / relaxing to prepare you for your visit * Cozy appointment rooms - candles, fountains, soft lighting * Pandora Radio - pick the music you want to listen to. I was unprepared for this choice, so just listened to some jazz. * Fast x-rays - all-digital, very little wait time. * Rosie goes through all the details of the x-rays with you - she went through and pointed out features of my teeth - fillings, sealants, living tissue vs enamel, bone marrow, nerves, and sinuses on-screen. Cool! I don't recall ever discussing these with a dentist before. Bone marrow looks spongy! * Sunglasses provided - not the most sylish (they're disposable), but they protect your eyes from the exam light! Really nice not to have to squint all the time, or keep my eyes closed throughout. * Flavors - pick your polish flavor - I had tangerine, yum! They had a dozen or so to choose from. * Neck warmer and hot stones on my belly while being cleaned - mmm. Makes autumn grey days more wonderful. * Really interesting and personable staff - I don't remember being this interested in what my hygienist had to say while my mouth was open before. Also, yay for not asking questions while my mouth is full of cleaning things, but still being conversational to keep me distracted. * Neck / shoulder massage after a cleaning - yes, please! Being treated by a licensed massage therapist and dental hygienist is really amazing. * Flossers, toothbrush, toothpaste to take with after the appointment. Additional notes that I did not make use of, but are interesting: * Breastfeeding-friendly office, if you are wondering * Small play area for children * Accessible for wheelchairs, scooters, etc. Since it was my first appointment here, it took a little longer than a usual appointment (1h:20m or so), but was relaxing and relatively painless. I can't really speak to their services other than cleaning yet, but I just recommended them to a couple friends who have been searching for a dentist (and it's been less than a day since my appointment). A few warnings: * Be on time - they have a late fee if you arrive more than 10 minutes into your appointment, and you will have to reschedule / come back again. Most offices don't take this as seriously, but they do, so be aware. * Arrive a bit early to find parking - it is on-street, and took me a few minutes to circle around and find some. Not terrible, at all, just goes with the above notice to be timely. Definitely try them out, but be careful of the timing! read more

I've had some bad experiences with dentists who just don't care about their patients or talk in obscure code to their assistants and spare you nary a word to the side. Dr. Wagner is not one of those dentists, I am happy to report. I got in a few minutes before my appointment and was greeted with "hi, are you Alana?", which made me feel very welcomed (how many dentists have you been to where they know you by name the first time you walk in?). Signing the forms electronically was quick and easy and then Dr. Wagner herself came out to greet me. She has a very gentle demeanour and is good at explaining dental procedures in language non-dentists can understand while making it evident that she is very confident and competent. She had to run out for a business meeting very briefly during my cleaning, but came in to tell me and ensure that I was well taken care of. The x-rays were also taken with a really nifty x-ray gun that felt a lot less invasive than typical x-rays. I can also say very happily that Celes, the dental hygienist, is both extremely nice and patient as well as good at her job. Typically when I have my teeth cleaned, I leave with a bleeding, achy mouth. Celes did a very careful and thorough job without jabbing me in the gums, which was a fantastic change. You also get a choice of toothpaste flavours, which I have to say is a surprisingly nice touch considering the flavours at other dentists I've been to have been grossmint and deathberry and no, you may not have the bubble gum because that's for the kids. At Dr. Wagner's office, I can have bubble gum toothpaste and be 22, and that's okay. (You have no idea how happy that makes me.) Being able to choose a Pandora station, having everything patiently explained, and even getting a lavender scented towel at the end to freshen up your face and hands are phenomenally nice touches, and that in addition to being a very capable dental practice means I'll be coming to Dr. Wagner for all of my dental work from now on. read more

When you go to the dentist, do you: * See works by local artists decorating the walls? * Get to pick your own Pandora station to listen to? * Receive shades to block the glaring overhead light from your eyes? * Feel soothed by a neck warmer and warmed stones? * Get a massage from a licensed massage therapist? If you don't, you're really missing out! Smiles by Rosie has all of these perqs on top of a friendly, professional, and caring staff. They also have the latest technology for convenient recordkeeping and safe x-rays, as well as wifi you can use. If you have young children, this office is breastfeeding friendly and has a playroom. If you or your child have disabilities (vision, hearing, mobility) or special needs, this office will also gladly welcome you. Smiles by Rosie excels in providing patients with every comfort while delivering gentle and thorough dental care. For me, the best part was definitely the free massage! I feel like I went to a spa and have been feeling refreshed and relaxed all day. Never thought I would say this about a trip to the dentist, but - I can't wait to go back! read more

I went to see Dr. Wagner when a filling was bothering me. I was able to get an appointment quickly at a convenient time for me. The office is nice and comfortable, but I didn't get a chance to explore the waiting room very long as I was called in right away. Dr. Wagner took some x-rays with the coolest x-ray gun I've ever seen. Then she took the time to explain to me what was going on, what treatments are possible and what she recommends I do. It was very helpful and the best explanation I've received from a dentist. Celes did my cleaning afterwards, and this was hands-down the best, most gentle cleaning and gum exam I've ever had. I usually dread the cleaning, but she was so nice and gentle that I almost fell asleep in the chair. One the best things about Smiles by Rosie are the little personal touches that go the extra mile. If it's raining out, they provide slippers for you to wear so you can take off your wet boots or shoes. During the cleaning they provide disposable sun glasses so the light doesn't blind you. And, you can choose your own Pandora music station while in the chair! I would recommend Dr. Wagner and Smiles by Rosie to anyone, especially to those who dread the dentist or haven't been to one in a long time. read more

Unbelievable different from the norm dentist visit. The other patients have described it all - zen-like experience for dentistry, with soothing sounds, scents, sights, and feels. The fantastic interior decor and all-new all-technology accommodations are like none I've ever seen. And I've been seeing a fancy downtown dentist catering to the working wealthy for years. Dr. Wagner's and all of the staff's kindness, attention to service and overall accommodating manner are like none I've ever experienced in the dentistry industry, let alone the hospitality industry. Just a couple of examples that went above and beyond the descriptions others have already offered: - They made a last-minute change and offered to do my 3 year-old child's first visit with care and sensitivity to his shy manner. - They generously offered him netflix on their work computer to keep him occupied during my first visit. Dental wuss here. I had some terrible experiences with a dentist during my childhood, so I pretty much hate going. Unfortunately, I chipped a tooth during our last blizzard and it became pretty much mandatory that I find someone ASAP. I had heard good things about Smiles by Rosie on a neighborhood message board so I decided to check them out. I'm so glad I did. The reviews that say they're very gentle and non-judgmental are spot on. They got me in same-day and Dr. Wagner and her staff were great. Others have noted the Pandora and the lavender scented neck wraps. Those are great touches, but what I liked best was that she emailed me a complete treatment plan with everything that needed doing. It was clear and prioritized and included pricing. Yeah, as expected, there was some stuff, but nothing felt excessive and she was really great about explaining things. I went back about a week later to take care of the most pressing issue, a cavity, and the filling was done gently and she got me as numb as I wanted (I'm sure more numb than other folks!) and was not shy about topping off the novicane. For future sessions, they have nitrous oxide, so I'll probably zone out for some of the other things I need done. Highly recommended. read more
