This is a world class jiujitsu school with an amazing kid's and women program that really help first timers get a true understanding of what Brazilian jiu-jitsu is. Also I like to include that there competition team is growing and learning fast as well, because of professor Jake Mapes and professor Kris Neilsen they explain each move you learn in detail and with timing that can teach a wide spectrum of individuals quickly, not only that, they also have a great gun and knife defense program which is really needed right now these day's. Jake and Chris have put together a very well thought out program. Physically the gym is very simple and clean and free of distractions, with mats upstairs and down as well as showers and some lifting equipment for strength and conditioning. They offer a great schedule with many options to train so that no matter how crazy your life is you can always find some quality mat time at least a couple times a week. They are very detail oriented and willingly share those details to make your technique crisp and effective, and go out of their way to coach their students during class. All the training partners are very respectful and great to roll with, no matter if it's their first days or if they've been around a long time. I have been attending this gym for a month with my son and the gym is excellent. Staff is supportive and the passion for jiu jitsu is great from the coaches to the students. This is a compassionate gym supporting all fitness levels and experience and guides beginners (us) and more advanced student at progression in their technique and execution. Jake and Kris are two very knowledgeable coaches and professionals of the sport. They offer a wide variety of classes from competition to self-defense to Jiu-Jitsu fundamentals. Their calm and understanding approach makes them very personable to first-timers and even those more experienced. Two excellent black belts co-own this school. I've been training here for a few months and from the first day I went to try a class they made me feel like I was a member of the North Coast Team. There's no soft technique taught here and the other students are all amazing to train with, no knucklehead factor whatsoever. NCJJ is the best place I've trained, hands down. I have trained at other gyms over the last few years and nothing can match the vibe of the classes or the knowledge of Jake. If you want to push yourself and compete, there are competition focused classes. If you want to learn, there are mellow intro classes. Everyone is supportive and looks out for each other.
