My wife and I are patients of Dr. Joseph Ceravolo. Her cataract surgery is now complete. I still have mine to go. Everything went smooth as silk. It was 100% successful. This practice is fantastic. The staff are all pleasant and professional. Dr. C is a very nice man. He really listens, is direct, describes his diagnoses impeccably, as well as his plan for treatment and what to expect. He is no nonsense, while being kind and considerate. This was the first time my wife has ever had a doctor phone her the day after a procedure to check on her. Mookie is also a gem. I rarely leave reviews, but this experience warrants it. I am a Registered Nurse with over 10 years of experience, and I chose North Columbus Eye Center for LASIK after a reassuring consultation with Dr. Ceravolo. I have significant procedural anxiety and made that very clear ahead of time. Unfortunately, the experience during the procedure itself was completely different. While my eye was held open under the laser, Dr. Ceravolo made multiple comments that indicated confusion, including statements like, "Did I press the wrong button?" and "What did I just do?" As a patient, hearing that in the middle of a procedure involving my eye was extremely distressing. When I asked if everything was okay, I was met with an aggressive "it will be if you would just hold your eye open and look at the laser". From that point forward, his demeanor became increasingly frustrated and aggressive, with repeated sharp instructions directed at me despite my clear anxiety and efforts to comply. Following the procedure, he performed a very brief exam, and left without any reassurance or communication. I left feeling distressed and at fault. At my follow-up appointment the tech immediately acknowledged awareness of my case and apologized for Dr. Ceravolo's behavior, indicating that it had been discussed among staff and that this conduct was not out of character. Additionally, while waiting in the exam room, I overheard Dr. Ceravolo having a personal conversation about coworkers DIRECTLY outside my door. The remarks included staff speaking negatively about coworkers, references to a hostile work dynamic, Dr Ceravolo saying the other doctor in his office "doesn't want to go to jail and can't afford divorce" and a statement about someone "going full Russian" on another individual. Additionally, there was a lapse in my post-operative care instructions. This experience was not only distressing but fell significantly below the standard of care and professionalism expected in a surgical setting. I have never encountered this level of unprofessional conduct from a provider. I emailed them and received a message stating that "Dr Ceravolo is very professional and if you'd like to speak with him he's more than willing". If this review helps even ONE person go to West Georgia Eye instead of North Columbus Eye I've done my job. read more

Dr. C corrected my vision taking out my cataracts and adding a multi lens a few years ago. The experience was very professional. I didn't think I could ever see this well again both up close and far away. He and his staff are extremely informative and explains everything. this year my husband had the same surgery with Dr. C and he is amazed at how well he can see. read more

I have never been treated as rudely and disrespectfully as I was by Joseph Ceravolo in my recent appointment. He is a horrendous human being with no regard or respect for other people, particularly his patients. Do not give this miserable person your business. You will regret it. He literally screamed at me during my eye exam. I'm a retired Air Force officer and pilot, with hundreds of hours of combat flight time to my credit, and currently a commercial airline captain, and as such I've been treated by health care practitioners of every kind all over the world. I was absolutely shocked at Mr. Ceravolo's behavior in a provider-patient environment. Even if we hadn't been in a professional environment, his behavior would have been unacceptable, but it was particularly so in the sense of his providing me with medical services. His behavior suggests that he may be an anabolic steroid abuser who is suffering from "Roid Rage." There is absolutely no excuse for how he behaved toward me and how he treated me, and in fact the nurse who was present in the exam room when this occurred actually apologized to me on behalf of the practice after it occurred, as I was leaving. No one should ever be subjected to the kind of abusive, unprofessional, hateful, inexcusable behavior Mr. Ceravolo (I refuse to refer to him as "doctor") displayed toward me, particularly when I had done absolutely nothing to elicit his actions. Stay as far away from this sociopath as possible. Don't give him the opportunity to abuse you the way he did me. I've learned my lesson -- hopefully you won't have to learn the same lesson the hard way. Incidentally, there are a lot more details about this that I would like to be able to share here, but the Yelp Review platform limits me to too few characters to be able to give you all the details. Wanted to see if I was a candidate for either Lasik or lens replacement with cataract surgery. Cataracts were not awful but since I was trying to improve vision Dr C suggested the multi focal lens. Very long story short, after 4 different procedures and a second opinion from Emory (which I wish I had gone to in the first place) I see worse now than ever before. Bottom line, for my pre existing conditions... Lazy eye, astigmatism... NEVER should have been offered a multi focal lens! Worst mistake of my life as I now have torn vitreous in operated eye. My belief is he was more interested in the high dollar price tag that came with that lens than the health and well being of the patient (me). Safe to say I will never grace the doors with my presence here. Emory in Atlanta was top notch but even they can't fix this blunder without great risk to me. Continued to discuss medical care and diagnosis with other patients present while we, the patient and caregiver was in the hallway waiting for our turn to checkout. Bad experience. Had cataract surgery last year and opted to pay extra for bi-focal lens. After surgery everything was blurry. Numerous trips back to office, even sent to retina specialist. Was told several times it was dry eye. Dr. Ceravola did lasik and the yag procedure. Still blurry. He then wanted to plug my tear ducts. I had had enough. Went to another doctor and was told my astigmatism was not corrected (which was also part of the expensive lens I had put in). New doctor finally corrected and after a year, I can finally see without contacts. Also found out at the time there was a newer lens than the one put in that specifically targeted astigmatism. This is the lens I had put in my other eye which gives me 20/20 vision. read more

I've had many encounters with his practice. Most recently my cataract surgery. Although I didn't go perfectly Dr. C stayed with it until everything was excellent. I cannot thank you enough for striving for the best care for your patience. Clarisa the office manager runs a tight ship. She make sure all her employees are top notch. Never, ever, EVER go to this place to have lasik performed. I had a custom Z LASIK procedure on both eyes done here about 3 years ago, and it was the beginning of a terrible chapter of my life. This is something that I deal with everyday years later. After my original Lasik procedure, I had extreme ghosting, double images and lights skews that never went away. I believe this is because he did not create a big enough flap during the Lasik procedure, as the lights skews and streaks were the literal exact same on both sides. After about a year, Dr. C thought that PRK on one eye would correct the problem that he created and we would proceed to the other eye if corrected. This ended up being the worst mistake of my life, it made my right eye almost completely unusable. My eye sight in that eye is now twice as bad as it was before I ever had the original LASIK. On a day-to-day basis, I see 4 images out of that eye... this cannot be corrected by regular contacts or glasses. This is due to irregular astigmatism that he has given me as a result of scarring and improper LASIK care. I will now most likely have to spend thousands of dollars on custom sclera lenses too correct this in the near future. Please do not go here. Still, a couple years after the supposed PRK correction (to fix his crappy lasik job) I deal with extreme dryness in my right eye. Sometimes when I wake up in the morning, my eye is literally stuck to the inside of my eyelid and I have to peel it off of my eye which is extremely extremely painful. My right eye is dry all day everyday. He tried to correct this with eye plugs afterwards, all that did was blur my eye up all day because the tear production was so crummy... so I ended up having to take them out. Learn from my lesson. I went in for a simple astigmatism laser correction procedure at age 22 - 23, and now I'm 26 and deal with something everyday that I can't even correct. I've tried hard contacts, soft contacts, and glasses but nothing makes my vision good enough to write home about. PLEASE do not go here!
