Well, stop I did, to see if they had a gift for a friend's birthday. First, I love any store that smells like balsam as you walk through the door. The scent makes me feel like a kid again. I'm not from Maine (have been here long enough to feel at home), but as a kid we used to drive here from Ohio and spend a few weeks going up and down the coast. The smell of balsam reminds me of these trips. Second, I was shocked by the variety they had. Maple syrup, Maine souvenirs, crafting supplies, wooden figurines, and antiques. The have a sign stating that they "glue chairs". I didn't know that was a thing, but apparently, it is... They also sell wreaths and Christmas trees during the appropriate season. And finally, the owners were as nice as could be. They had out hot chocolate for the kids, and they wrapped my little gift up neatly. We visited Poppy & Vale, which is filled with many things for the home. They have candles and many other items to provide scents for your home. They have many fancy ways to make food... Moroccan cooking tangines, knives, pitchers, glasses, syrups. Wine items including a frog-shaped wine foil remover (removes the wine outside of the cork). There are rooms of games, Maine items, body products and jewelry, and kitchen wares and jams. There are Christmas themed rooms, kids games, candles and glassware. You name it, they have it. The kinds of things offered are probably selected through the eye of the buyer, and, to be fair, there was a wide range of options. After walking through, and looking at a whole lot, I was still unable to find a gift that caught my eye. I see that as more my problem than theirs.
