Very cute shop that is fun to browse with a really nice mix of items. They have a bit of everything, from local goods to more playful gag gifts, so it feels like you can wander around and always find something interesting. In the back there is even a small wine selection, which was a fun surprise. I ended up grabbing a pair of loon socks and a postcard. Don't waste your time. The cool stuff they sell is completely overshadowed by the rude staff. It ruins the customers experience when the staff is crass, unhelpful and downright ignorant. Clearly they have no training or people skills. Go to Toy Chest or ANY of the other stores where they employ kind humans. Response to your childish response: That girl was not even close to polite. She embarrassed him. She did NOT offer him a basket. She offered me one after I snapped back at her for implying he was stealing. If you were a small business and cared about your customers you would have written back sorry you feel that way. Using capital letters is childish and just proves my point that you employ rude people. As for your "camera footage" he was in my sight the entire time and if there is voice recording on your camera you would hear the unprofessionalism that we were treated with. The Penguin Gallery in North Conway NH village is one of the shops we always have to stop in when we are in the North Conway NH area. We always find a great, unique and crafty toy for my son. In fact I have gotten him a birthday and Christmas present or 2 every year since he was born and they are always a big hit. To be honest, I always take the advice of the store owner, Lynda, or one of the helpful people she has working the store. They know the products and once they hear a few ideas from me they always come up with a good idea. For great toys for a wide range of ages, you can always bet on The Penguin Gallery. This is a super cute little shop. There is a lot to look at and a lot of things that would make it home with me, if I so happened to be made of money, but sadly this isn't the case. We ended up stopping here twice in the two days we were in North conway. The first time I bought two geode rocks to break open with a hammer. The second time I got some cute tea towels (I burnt my other ones in the oven, its a bit of a story!), a magnet and a little tiny birthday card for my brother. Very unique store. Funny items! They sell Alex and Ani. Kids toys and other things. A little crowded at checkout and a little confusing.

I have been here tons of times and never had a problem with the place. Today was a different story. I was with my big family, and the clerk followed us around the whole time! Finally the last straw was when the clerk yelled at my daughter not to touch something. She wasn't running around or being bad. Although they have some cool stuff, the items are overpriced. Even the 50 percent off rack was in the 10-50 dollar range. Skip this store and go to the 5 and dime. read more

While I always stop at The penguin and usually find something to buy that I like - I was not treated very well the last time I was there this past January. A woman who worked at the store was cleaning the shelves of the store (midday / holiday weekend) and found it inconvenient that I was trying to shop and buy something there! If I was looking at something on a shelf that she wanted to clean, she would say "excuse me" and make me move so she could clean the shelf... I found this to be very rude for someone who works in the customer service industry. I suggest they find better employees. read more

I go here before every Mother's Day and Valentine's Day to pick something up for my wife. The staff is super helpful with suggestions and last pre-Valentine's Day they even had an ice bin filled with free beer for guy's shopping LOL. Nice touch! My 4 year old loves this place too. I always go to the Penguin Store to buy things I never knew I needed. They have neat little unique toys, as well as housewares and books and paper needs. They pretty much cover all their bases, which is useful but sometimes overwhelming. The place is cluttered with knicknacks, but it's a fun place to stop in if you've got some extra time. read more

To the owner of this shop, you should be disappointed in your employees and how they treat your customers. Yes, your shop has a lot of unique gifts, but the customer service is the worse. I was not greeted, than the sales clerk put some stock out and literally pushed me out of the way and didn't say excuse me. When paying for my purchases, the sales clerk seemed like I was bothering her and she didn't check the back of my credit card. Which states "ask for ID" a big mistake on her part. This place looks inviting from the outside but has the usual gift shop merch inside and the customer service is horrible. This was my second time in. I was greeted but there was no follow-up. I stood in the vicinity of two sales clerk and all they did was talk to each other. I stood near one on the sales floor and she just walked right by me several times, never saying a word. Did I mention the three charming signs? Outside said " shop local." On the door is a sign that says "We're Awesome." No self esteem issues there. And then right at the register, the big sign says "prices are subject to change according to customer's attitude!" Well if that doesn't say "customers, you are important to us" nothing does. Been in retail myself and find MY purchasing is subject to change according to THEIR attitude. Going elsewhere for sure... read more

Was Blown away by how much truly cool stuff they had there. I was looking for a place that sold Alex and Ani and their locator came up with this place. My husband didn't want to come in but I dragged him in anyway. He got such a kick out of the uniqueness and sense of humor the store has. We're not talking cheesy tourist stuff, but stuff I havent seen anywhere else. The store is much bigger than it looks. The staff were very helpful and I bought a really nice bracelet for myself. If you only have time to visit one gift shop when you visit or your sick of bear and moose paraphenalia, check this place out. read more
