Squaw Leap…read more When the Squaw tribal people found out the European immigrants were coming closer to their territory, many of them " leaped " off those cliffs and committed suicide because they didn't want to be captured and enslaved as that was the case for many other tribes. Hence , the name " Squaw Leap ". From the agricultural town of Fresno to the trail head is only about a 40- minute drive . You drive through a small town of Prather and Auberry , take Powerhouse Rd, Smally Rd and you'll reach the parking lots. As of May 22, 2021, the visitor center was closed , the Nuckhahee learning center was also closed but the Ya Gub Weh Tuh campground was opened, the trails were opened and the Indian Village was also opened. Aholul group campground also opened. Hiking : 1. You can hike to the bridge. It's a very easy short hike, but when you get to the bridge , you are rewarded with beautiful views of the San Joaquin River Gorge. A nice spot to eat lunch. Some folks fishing down below by the water. 2. You can hike the Pa'san Ridge Loop Trail. It's uphills and I'd rate it moderate. 7.9 mile , 1,538 ft elevation gain. Loop. (AllTrails.com) 3. You can hike the Wuh-Ki'o trail. I can't tell you because I've never done this one. 8.0 mile, 1,354 ft elevation gain. Out-back. (According to AllTrails.com ) It gets pretty hot here during summer months. Avoid doing this hike in the summer. Today was unusually cool for this time of the year in this area. All of the parking lots were full , tons of cyclists, trail runners, hikers. Pretty busy place.

The issue I had with Sierra Marina was with their kayak rentals. The service and the price wasn't…read morethe problem. The issue was with the kayak itself. It was well past its prime. One of the backrest clip loops was broken (kayaing without a working backrest is horrible), and the deck hatch was so old that water leaked right into the hold causing flooding. It also appears that this Marina knows about the kayak flooding because they drilled a custom drain hole in the back of the kayak for flooding drainange. These issues weren't realized until I was already on the water. Obviously basic expectations of a kayak rental weren't met. The previous day we rented from Shaver Lake Watersports and they had all new kayaks. So new that they still had the brochures attached to the kayaks. Perhaps that's why SLW cost $10 more an hour to rent.. I guess you get what you pay for. As others have said, it's teens working here on a summer job. Nothing wrong with that of course but they're not really trained to look for issues with a boat (or kayak in my case) before sending someone out in the lake. They also don't have knowledge of Shaver Lake's boating laws. The kid that launched me said that everyone was required to wear a life vest. After looking it up, the law states 12 and under must wear a life preserver. I took it off when out of Marina sight. Tip - if you're staying on the lake as a "day use" and are thinking about renting a kayak, make sure it's for half-a-day or full-day rental. This is hands-down the best Snow Park!…read more After picking up some sleds from Costco were took a trip on New Year's Day to explore the snow park. Don't be like the other families who stopped as soon as they saw some snow, those parks are very small and very bare and don't even come close to Tamarack Snow Park that's bigger and has fields, hills, slopes and so much powder! Keep driving up Tollhouse Road until you get more bubbles in your ears and you find this majestic snow park, with plenty of parking, bathrooms and lots of snow to play in. Don't forget to bring snacks, water, a sled or two and lots of snow gear like mittens and boots or an extra set clothes to change into because you get wet and will be super cold. And if you're super hungry check out Shaver Lake Pizza from some unbelievably delicious pizza and salad.

I got a chance to play this little course. This is a 9-hole course with two different tee locations…read more(but not all). Water comes into play on about half of the fairways. As more of a hacker than a true golfer, I lost my fair share of golf balls. You could easily walk this course, but there are some hilly areas. Most fairways aren't too long, but there are a couple that are. I ended using a cart cause I was short on time. Finding this place was a little tricky as my phone map took me to the backside neighborhood. The clubhouse is co-located with the Fairway Cafe (in Yosemite Lakes) on Yosemite Springs Parkway. I really enjoyed playing this course. For a short course, it was definitely challenging in spots. The staff I interacted with were super friendly and the greens & fairways were in good shape. I'll definitely play here again if I'm in the neighborhood!

Prep for the trip: Plan for plenty of water to take with you! Wear good shoes. Plan something for…read moreusing the restroom, we took wet wipes and bags. We planned small healthy snacks. We planned to leave early in the day knowing there was not a lot of shade. We used GPS and advised everyone to leave GPS open because cell service goes out up there, if you leave it open you can follow the road backwards. Take sunscreen and water. Roads are paved. GPS takes you directly to the large metal gate that was closed and locked. Find parking along the road. LEAVE GPS OPEN. There is a large beige colored metal gate. This is the beginning of the trail. Cave: About one mile in there is a cave on the right hand side. Yesterday (June 21,2025) there was a front loader on the right side and then two large piles of white rock and that's where the cave entrance was. This gave us a nice cool break and a spot to take beautiful pictures. Walk to the falls: paved the entire way. There is a cattle grate in the beginning and at the falls. The one at the falls is damaged near the middle and is a tripping hazard. The trail is slightly uphill and downhill. The falls are located directly on the path. At the Falls: there isn't a safe area to swim. The falls consist of a bridge in the middle with steep drop offs on both sides. The side past the falls has a rocky area that makes for a nice backdrop for pictures and to sit have a snack and rest your feet. 2nd cave. Just on the other side of the bridge from the fall is a second smaller cave. Walk back to gate: same uphill downhill path that is paved. Things to note.. no restrooms, no utilities, mostly no shade, start early bring water and snacks. I recommend arriving early and having sunscreen. This was my first official hike. I do have lots of medical issues. I kept a slow and steady pace and was able to complete the course.

There is no shade it's mainly walking on cement the whole time up and down. Try to be early as it gets hot because the sun is on you the whole trip. If you are looking for some tan and exercise this is the place for you. The waterfall is beautiful!! Once you are there in front of it you forget the walk you just did. Also to get to the point that you need to start walking you have to drive an hour from Fresno. There are single roads so be aware of Other cars coming your way. Be very careful. Would I go back again maybe if I go in March and at earliest time of the day. We didn't take enough water and we were Dying lol! Please don't make the same mistake. There is a little man made cave in the side of the waterfall. You can stay there covering your self from the sun and refresh a little. We made it!! So proud of myself.
