On top of that, he ordered a beer, and I ordered a bottled water. Our hostess was also named Jennifer, and she was super sweet. My date had already been here a few times, so he knew the ropes, but Jennifer still took a little extra time to show me how things worked. In the main room, there were about six targets, and most of them were pretty much spent, to be honest. They'd had so many axes thrown at them that it was becoming difficult for the axes to stick-- several of the targets were actually concaved. The two good targets were kind of far apart, which made it hard for my date and I to be next to each other. Another one of the targets was basically unusable because there was a kiddy practice target set up in front of it. Luckily, though, we pretty much had the place to ourselves. Each booth had several axes hanging on a metal strip, and we were encouraged to experiment with as many different blades as possible. I think we both tried them all. Eventually, we went out back, which turned out to be the nicer area. There were another six targets back there, and they were not quite as used up as the ones inside. The fairy lights around the barn theme was the perfect vibe for a first date. I personally didn't mind the pile of a hundred or so bicycles in the parking lot, but I did wonder-- why? I've been wanting to try axe throwing for a very long time, so I was happy to finally get the chance to do it. Once you throw the axe a few times, and realize that this is what you're literally going to do for an hour straight, it's a little less exciting. Now that I've tried it, I don't think I would need to try it again, but I had a lot of fun.

We had our annual camping trip at one of the local campsites near Miller's Landing resort. One of our days we decided to use our 15% off coupon from our campsite to Rent a 9 persons pontoon boat. The folks working at the counter for the boat rental were friendly and helpful. I wish I could say the same thing for the dude's working at the actual boat dock. They gave us weird vibes. Like, have y'all never seen Asians renting a boat? WTF are you guys glaring at? WTF is so funny? It was irritating AF! Thankfully, the time on the water was really fun! The kids had such a good time zipping around on the water and we also rented a tube that we towed off the back of the pontoon boat. Yes, it's not a speed boat, but it was fast enough for the kids to enjoy being towed around. The next day we went back to Miller's Landing to use their public showers. Five dollars for five minutes. Make it quick! The shower's were clean, water was warm, or cold if you prefer, but the line can get long. There is no complimentary shampoo, soap, or conditioner, so be sure to BYO. It was a good option for those of us who were tent camping that NEEDED a shower. Although we didn't dine in the restaurant, we did get drinks, ice cream, and milkshake's from the café, all of which were really tasty. We will definitely plan to incorporate a boat rental, showers, and meals at Miller's Landing when we plan our annual camping trip for next year!

We had an awesome time on Shaver Lake with Todd! All our kids caught multiple fish, and us grown…read moreups did too. We came back to our cabin with 14 fish - 6 sockeye salmon, and 8 rainbow trout. The salmon is the richest and most delicious looking I've ever seen; we're going to grill it this evening. Todd made fishing enjoyable and easy to learn. In addition to fish, we came home with Todd's knowledge, skills, and helpful instruction. Having not grown up fishing myself, I took detailed notes as he graciously explained boat fishing, shore fishing, and what bait setups different types of fish will bite on. He also explained his favorite cooking techniques, and even helped us clean our fish so that it's ready for tonight! His friendly and laid back attitude, along with his great stories, kept us learning and having fun while acquiring some delicious supper at the same time. I highly recommend Kokanee Guide Service, and we'll use Todd again on our next trip.

My husband had a great time and caught a ton of fish with Luke. Unfortunately my son and I were left behind for long periods of time. Luke brought one pole though we all though we would be able to fish. I never got a chance to be taught or fish; I just had to try and keep up in the slippery river. Luke instructed us to not bring any personal items to the river as we would be back to the car shortly. We left behind food, water, phones and emergency/first aid gear. We never returned to the car during our 4 hour trip but Luke forgot to tell us that. At one point my son and I were left behind since he was feeling dizzy and lightheaded due to the altitude. They continued on without us and we sat alone in the river for about an hour having no idea where they were or where we were. I am sure this is a great experience for solo adults but I would not recommend for a safe and enjoyable family outing. Luke mentioned he was a realtor for his primary employment and was just doing this on the side; I was not surprised to hear this at the end of our trip. I also reached out to Jimmy about the safety concerns and was sent a video to "prove me wrong". They then asked to speak with my husband instead of me. I would recommend finding a different company for your family's once in a life time outing.

My family was in the middle of a five-day stay in Yosemite, and we desperately needed a break from…read morethe over-chlorinated hotel pool, the stuffy room, and the miles and miles and miles of hiking--which, with a five-, six-, and 11-year-old, doesn't exactly scream "happy family vacation." So we rented a boat on Bass Lake, and man, it was awesome. The crew was extremely friendly and accommodating, and the boat itself--a medium pontoon with an inner tube--was great. The shop didn't offer much in the way of actual provisions for the boat ride, unless your idea of lunch is chips, Doritos, donuts, and 75 varieties of soda. Basically, everything you need to give three children a four-hour sugar high in the middle of a lake. I would have loved some sandwiches, fruit, or anything that didn't have a cartoon mascot on the package. The price is where the missing star went. You're looking at around $500 for the boat and inner tube for four hours, and then you have to pay for the gas on top of that. Maybe that's standard practice, but it felt like a lot for four hours. For the whole day? Sure. But four hours? My bank account is still kicking me in the balls. That said, Bass Lake was unbelievably nice to swim in, and diving off the boat in the middle of that gorgeous lake was incredible for the kids. The inner tube was the undisputed highlight. We went zipping around the lake like a bunch of deranged dragonflies, and the kids absolutely crushed it. They never wanted to get off. The smiles on their faces ultimately made the price worth it, and we all wished we could have stayed out there the entire day. Four stars and highly recommended--especially if budget isn't a concern.

We were told they were not renting jet skis that day. That immediately didn't make sense. Before arriving, I had checked the website, which showed availability. We didn't argue or make a scene we simply accepted what we were told and booked for the following day. The interaction continued to bother me, so later that evening I called anonymously and asked whether they were renting jet skis that day. This time, I was told yes. So why were we told, face-to-face, that they weren't renting jet skis that day? As a Black customer, it's difficult not to question whether race played a role. I can't know what motivated the employee, but being told "no" in person, then receiving the opposite answer over the phone later that same day, while also seeing non-Black customers renting jet skis, left me feeling singled out. Whether this was poor customer service, dishonesty, or something more, it left a lasting impression. I hope no one else has the same experience.

The issue I had with Sierra Marina was with their kayak rentals. The service and the price wasn't…read morethe problem. The issue was with the kayak itself. It was well past its prime. One of the backrest clip loops was broken (kayaing without a working backrest is horrible), and the deck hatch was so old that water leaked right into the hold causing flooding. It also appears that this Marina knows about the kayak flooding because they drilled a custom drain hole in the back of the kayak for flooding drainange. These issues weren't realized until I was already on the water. Obviously basic expectations of a kayak rental weren't met. The previous day we rented from Shaver Lake Watersports and they had all new kayaks. So new that they still had the brochures attached to the kayaks. Perhaps that's why SLW cost $10 more an hour to rent.. I guess you get what you pay for. As others have said, it's teens working here on a summer job. Nothing wrong with that of course but they're not really trained to look for issues with a boat (or kayak in my case) before sending someone out in the lake. They also don't have knowledge of Shaver Lake's boating laws. The kid that launched me said that everyone was required to wear a life vest. After looking it up, the law states 12 and under must wear a life preserver. I took it off when out of Marina sight. Tip - if you're staying on the lake as a "day use" and are thinking about renting a kayak, make sure it's for half-a-day or full-day rental. It's like a 30-40 minute paddle to the beach areas around parking lot 3..
