Tracy is a city I always pass by when I'm going to the South Bay Area from Sacramento or on my way…read morehome. I didn't usually pay much attention to Tracy many years ago. But they're started catching my attention in recent years. The City of Tracy is quietly building up more and more new buildings on both sides of the freeway near I-205. It has many more businesses opened up in Tracy, and lots more people moved to the area. On the other hand, Tracy still gives me the other side of the county and small village feels. They have many almond farms with hundreds or thousands of almond trees everywhere. The flowers are so beautiful in late February and March. The City of Tracy is still in the process of moving more closely with all its neighboring cities in the Bay Area. They built many new shopping centers in the city. Some are pretty good! Some failed. But shopping malls failed and are becoming the new normal after the pandemic now! I hope the City of Tracy will non-stop improving but still be able to keep their county feels.

I just attended the City of Tracy shredding event to help my parents out with years of old papers,…read moresensitive documents, etc. When we got there, there were several cars in front of us. We got into the line at 12:52pm and the event was until 1pm. 4 cars arrived after us and were also in line. Once we got closer to the trucks, there was an elderly woman who seemed to be taking down people's information. She consulted with another older gentleman and told us it was 1pm, the bins were full so they could no longer accept us. I informed her that we were in the line before 1pm. She just said I'm sorry we can't take you. She was polite enough, but I am disappointed with the city. They turned away the cars after us as well. If you have a hard cutoff of 1pm then you need to CLEARLY state that on the website. It just says 9-1pm so presumably arriving in the line to shred by 1pm would be sufficient. They should have accepted the cars who were in line by 1pm and then put up a roadblock sign announcing that the event is over/closed. Also, the bins are not magically full at exactly 1:00pm. If you have a cutoff time, that's fine but don't tell me at 12:59 the bins aren't full but are at 1:00pm. I will look elsewhere to take care of my document shredding needs and will not recommend people to come to the City of Tracy event unless they arrive early in the morning. I don't blame the workers but I am unhappy with the service as we had arrived by 1pm - the stated time - and I may sound entitled, but how many cars, etc. are in line is not my problem. If I have arrived to the venue by the stated time, I expect to receive the service I am there for.

My neighbor received a telephone call from someone claiming to be from San Francisco Adult…read moreProtective Services. In essence, the caller said, "I'm from San Francisco Adult Protective Services, and I'm out front of your apartment building. I want to come up to your apartment and check on you as someone has reported they suspect you are being abused or need protection of some sort." The caller would not identify who made the report, saying it was "confidential." My neighbor emailed me as well as a few other neighbors in our building to find out if anyone made such a report regarding her needing protection or rescuing from abuse. The caller who said they were from SFAPS puzzled my neighbor greatly - to the point of disturbance. Was this a prank call? Was this fraud? Should she report this call to the SFPD? She told me she had some health issues lately, but her doctor assured her she's doing fine and she was at work at the time of the original call. I wanted to help my neighbor figure out the mystery of the call, so I called San Francisco Adult Protective Services. The man who answered the phone would not confirm or validate that my neighbor received such a call from the agency. He would not identify the social worker, that there even was a social worker who called, or anything about the inquiry. In fact, he said, "How do you know your neighbor is even telling the truth that someone tried to contact her by phone today?" The mystery is easy to dispel. All SFAPS has to do is simply validate a telephone call had been sent to my neighbor's cell phone, without giving out any other information, but SFAPS refused to do this little, claiming it wanted to remain "confidential," -- code word for secretive. I asked to speak with the supervisor. As soon as I stated my desire to have the telephone to my neighbor validated, like a robot, I heard the female supervisor say, "I don't know how I can help you." When I tried to push further into how it was possible for an agency like SFAPS to have no answerability to the people its designed to help, she repeated, "I don't know how I can help you." I never encountered such a secretive, smug, and covert organization like this, one fully subsidized by the taxpayer but not accountable to the taxpayer in any way. It behaves like it's part of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which it decidedly is not. Who gave this organization the authority to behave in this cloak-and-dagger manner? I tried complaining about SFAPS's willingness to appear like a terrorist organization, targeting individuals without compunction, without accountability, with the Department of Human Services, and guess what? Nobody at Human Services was able to find anyone directly responsible for the overseeing of this organization.

I agree with another's assessment: The staff is very closed mouthed, to the point of victim blaming or invalidating what the client that is inquiring needs, or needs to know. I'd never interact with them again . I'd rather call police and work from there. Why? Well in one instance two staff members were sent to the property, as they knew it was an illegal pot farm...but allowed another dubious tenant to dissuade them from coming to see me! Taking her word that the landlord in question and I were off property " talking things over" ! !! No follow-up up after to assess my situation that was purportedly suddenly ' happily' settled..under odd circumstances. The agent I spoke with knew ( I informed him), I was struggling with a life threatening illness as he had been given specific information as to how dire it was, and promptly ' 'forgot' such info ..saying in a later conversation that I " just didn't want to go out.". I've been housebound he knew that!! He downplayed neighbors actions until I had to give up in frustration. He was unaware of Senior housing, assumed I lived in a facility where bathrooms were shared instead of individual apartments, ( which is bad enough considering the general population of folks are largely in cognitively impaired and difficult to navigate around) He had no real time knowledge of housing wait lists, tried to tell me, as though he ' thought' you could just hop from one to another...not aware of the extensive wait time to get into such places these days. Nor that wait lists were closed at times, accepting no more interested parties. I was referred to someone to assist me in hopefully escaping Senior Housing...bless her heart, she didnt listen to my much discussed needs ( said she was also a " Life Coach"!!? )directed me to a place in a very, very sketchy part of town that no senior should be directed toward. The property was covered in used and being worked on cars! APS worker/ agent was pleasant, but amazingly unaware of many factors. Again, horribly frustrating. No never again will I avail myself of APS.
