One tip: get to the Edison parking area early on busy days because it fills up fast, often by 10:00 AM. Such a fun lake only about an hour from Fresno. We were never told that the motor had an issue with lowering, which left us stranded trying to figure it out ourselves. At approximately 1:08 p.m. on July 11, we had to call for assistance because we couldn't lower the motor. It wasn't until we called that someone finally explained how to lower it. We also requested a different boat, but were told that this was "the best out of their broken boats" and that it was all they had available. That information should have been disclosed before we rented the boat. We requested a refund due to receiving a boat with known issues, but were told the manager was unavailable and no one could help us. Renting out equipment with known problems without informing customers, then refusing to resolve the issue, is unacceptable. We expected a safe, fully functional boat and honest communication, but received neither.

This was one of the easiest and most fun rental experiences we've had at any lake we've been to. We rented a small eight seat pontoon boat. The price was super reasonable, fuel was included, and the whole process was easy and enjoyable. It was perfect for putting around the lake and going for a swim at various coves. We brought lunch with us and had a wonderful day. They also have larger boats, wave runners, and kayaks available. Definitely anything you could need to enjoy a day on the water. Five stars.

We chose to go further down to the beach for more privacy. Tip - There's a small parking lot in front of this Marina. However, if you drive south less than a mile you will see a gravel road. Drive down this road then take the left road and you'll see a small parking lot right above the secluded beaches.. Parking here will put your car much closer to your beach spot. - New kayaks

The issue I had with Sierra Marina was with their kayak rentals. The service and the price wasn't…read morethe problem. The issue was with the kayak itself. It was well past its prime. One of the backrest clip loops was broken (kayaing without a working backrest is horrible), and the deck hatch was so old that water leaked right into the hold causing flooding. It also appears that this Marina knows about the kayak flooding because they drilled a custom drain hole in the back of the kayak for flooding drainange. These issues weren't realized until I was already on the water. Obviously basic expectations of a kayak rental weren't met. The previous day we rented from Shaver Lake Watersports and they had all new kayaks. So new that they still had the brochures attached to the kayaks. Perhaps that's why SLW cost $10 more an hour to rent.. I guess you get what you pay for. As others have said, it's teens working here on a summer job. Nothing wrong with that of course but they're not really trained to look for issues with a boat (or kayak in my case) before sending someone out in the lake. They also don't have knowledge of Shaver Lake's boating laws. The kid that launched me said that everyone was required to wear a life vest. After looking it up, the law states 12 and under must wear a life preserver. I took it off when out of Marina sight. Tip - if you're staying on the lake as a "day use" and are thinking about renting a kayak, make sure it's for half-a-day or full-day rental. It's like a 30-40 minute paddle to the beach areas around parking lot 3..
