After being to most of the national parks in the US, where all you can get is pizza and Caesar salad, I am so impressed by the quality of food here. We made a reservation with the front desk as soon as we checked in after a long day of being cold in the rain and waiting at the bus station in Talkeetna. We should've just gone straight to the lodge but we didn't know how hard it was going to rain. Smoked salmon chowder: 5/5 always a hit in Alaska Midnight sun kissed scallops: 4/5 a little bit overdone Salmon sushi cups: 4/5 thought these were going to be raw but they're fully cooked, not worth the price Grilled halibut: 5/5 had to get it for the local ingredient Crab ravioli: 100/5 wow the flavor of the sauce and crab were fantastic. We usually don't ever really like pasta dishes because it's too rich and stagnant in the flavor but we could not get enough of this. I would love to have this recipe Crème brûlée: 4/5 classic but nothing special After going on a disappointing cruise with Royal Caribbean my expectations of this place was extremely low knowing it was operated by a cruise company. But Alaska has impressed me! I wonder if the lodge can be booked separately from a gray line because the train is honestly a bit of a waste of time. Late Post Aug 23' With not many places to eat at the lodge North Fork seemed to be the better choice for breakfast, for $25-$30 for a buffet. Biscuits, gravy, potatoes, eggs, bacon, sausage, cereal, yogurt, fruit, oatmeal and some sort of 1 pan pastry dish. The price included drinks, coffee, tea, juice, soda etc. Our server was very nice but the food wasn't hot at all, most of it were room temp even the gravy which was very disappointing. Also, those that worked the buffet wasn't too helpful, they knew the food wasn't hot and they were too busy talking rather than cleaning and filling the stations. read more

It started with a lack of hand sanitizer when we arrived, the manager look at us funny when we asked for him to fill it. The salads and soup were very good. ( blueberry salad, the wedge and salmon chowder). Our entrees left something to be desired, the halibut was luke warm and dry. The steak topped with crab, the crab meat was not great, the steak was dry. Ravioli was good. The old fashioned was great, amazing cherry in it. We ordered a 2nd drink with dessert and it was brought with the check, we had them take it back. The desserts were amazing cheesecake was great, the berry cobbler was to die for. The service was exceptional! Every person who works in this restaurant was amazing - the hostess who checked us in, the young people who took us to our tables, the young woman who took our order at dinner & delivered most of it, and the young man who took our order at breakfast & delivered it, and the young woman who kept our water glass full and cleared our plates. We ate dinner here our first night. For starters Husband had shrimp cocktail and I had the blueberry spring salad. Both were good and filling. For our entrée, both had the ribeye with green beans and mashed potatoes. All was good, but it was too much food! We thought we didn't have room for dessert, but we did - vanilla ice cream for Husband and huckleberry ice cream for me. The only reason for four instead of five stars is the limited menu. It is the same thing each night. The same goes for breakfast. For breakfast, Husband had a skillet of scrambled eggs and reindeer/caribou/bison sausage with sourdough toast and I had the scrambled eggs with bacon and sourdough toast (Dakota allowed me to substitute toast for biscuit). The strawberry jam was delicious. The food was good and filling, but I don't know how I'd feel if I had to eat here for more than two mornings! read more

This was one of two restaurants in Mt. McKinley Wilderness Lodge...and I feel this was probably their nicest. Like 20320, this place had all the rustic charms, but much more modernized. Also, the views from this restaurant was amazing! Also, I felt that they had a better menu. From here, we had a late-night dessert, as well as breakfast the following day. For our dessert, we shared this Creme Brulee with Vanilla Bean Ice Cream...and we lapped it up. Delish!! I forgot to take pics of my husband's breakfast, but my Buttermilk Pancake was also delicious, though they looked somewhat bad, and quite odd (very light colored and thin textured). We also shared Bacon...and they were good, quite typical. I might have given this restaurant 4 stars based on the ambiance and the dessert, but the service here was just bad...as our waiter/waitress (on both occasions) were MIA here and there. It was obvious that they didn't have service staff on the floor. Still, we enjoyed this restaurant...enough to come twice during our short stay at the lodge. read more

We arrived today with the Princess travel package and decided to try this. We got our reservation and waited with great anticipation....sad to say but it was not worth it. I must say the crab fritters and the chowder were quite delicious but my husband had the salmon, which was just ok...I had the halibut and It was incredibly overcooked. For the price they charged, I wish there would have been more attention to the final cooked dish. I would not recommend this place due to our experience. read more

After a day on the Princess train from Denali National Park and a 45 minute drive from Talkeetna we were looking forward to an early dinner so we made a reservation for 5:30. We had a couple of drinks in the bar and went to be seated at 5:20. We were told that we couldn't be seated until 5:30 as that was when we made our reservation for. At that point there were only 3 occupied tables. My husband pointed out the lack of patrons and indicated we were ready to be seated. The hostess would not budge stating "our policy does allow for early seating". Seriously??? Food was ok, my husband had the halibut and indicated it was good. I had the shrimp cocktail and blueberry salad, both were as expected. We asked for bread and were told they didn't receive any that day. Really, no bread at all?? Dessert - My husband ordered the crème brûlée and received a healthy size serving, actually larger than many other restaurants we've been to. I love chocolate mousse, one of my favorites so this is what I chose. I received, no exaggeration, what can only be described as a shot glass size serving. It contained 4 teaspoons of mousse with whipped cream on top. For this the cost was $14!!! I was left speechless. Overall we would not recommend North Fork. Management has much room for improvement. read more

What an AMAZING view of Denali! We sat facing a picture window. Did they want us to close the blinds? No thank you! It's gorgeous! We had the Caesar salad (pretty standard) and the chili in a sourdough bowl (we liked the sourdough). We had the steak with mushrooms (ordered medium rare ~ came out a little more towards medium and a couple of the mushrooms were a little dry) and the shrimp scampi (a little on the lemony side, but still good). For dessert, we had the triple berry crumble (pretty standard) and the creme brulee (the sugar coating was pretty thin, BUT it was tasty). Thank you so much to server Jhon (and the busser who didn't just throw it away) for bringing my hubby's pill bottle out when he forgot them out the table. I totally appreciate you! PRO TIP: Make your reservations on OpenTable and get points! There was 1 Pokestop accessible from the restaurant. There's wifi in the main lodge, but not at the other buildings. read more

They did not take us in at 8:55pm because the kitchen closes at 8:50. So the information they give you that the restaurant closes at 9 pm is not correct (as it is not here, either). On top of that, I received a rather rude response when I told the reservation folks that given that there are only 2 restaurants on property and nothing close, they could at least let people in until the time they specify. Horrible experience. Very unhelpful staff. read more

Terrible food. I had the Parmesan flat bread as an appetizer. It came on a wood plank serving dish that left a trail of grease on the table. It was thick, undercooked, slabs of dough with little flavor. It was a large portion though, which I had the waitress return to the kitchen after a couple bites. Pad Thai was a small portion. The sauce was watery and lacked flavor. Nothing remotely resembling Pad Thai as I had it around the world. Alaskan Chocolate Mousse was delicious however the portion was very small and the presentation lack luster. Getting my water refilled was a challenge. I was always waiting for a refill. In their defense, water glass was tiny. Prices are much too high. Waitress was nice but at the mercy of the kitchen. In summary, this restaurant preys on tourists. There are not many other options for food near here, thus, they screw you. read more

Excellent in all categories. I previously criticized the other on site resturant, 20320. North Fork is waist, head and shoulders above. I would have given a 5 star but we waited 10 minutes to be seated for dinner and as we walked in I counted 9 free tables for 4. Two people had blueberry salad to start and raved about it. One had the crab cakes with a herb mustard sauce and also raved. I had the melon and prosciutto salad. It was not quite as expected- instead of mozzarella slices it had boccocini balls and the prosciutto was more like american ham but it was very tasty. For entrees: The crab stuffed halibut was rated excellent. Fish was cooked just right. The ginger salmon was also cooked to perfection but the dish lacks vegetables and starch. The steak Oscar was raved about - cooked medium rare as requested and seafood was excellent. I had the braised pork shank and was very pleased. It was hot on arrival and served with tasty herbed mashed potatoes, which accompanied all dishes except the salmon, BBQ sauce and slaw. The slaw was made with bok choy rather than normal cabbage was very good. Service was prompt and friendly. The wine recommendation was spot on. We returned for breakfast. Again we waited 15 minutes to be seated and found many empty tables around us. We had the smoked salmon Benedict, the Alaskan crab and scrambled eggs in puff pastry and the Climber - a simple eggs, bacon, and potatoes. Everything arrived hot. The salmon Benedict was excellent. The crab in puff pastry was tasty but had the person adding a lot of salt and pepper - it needed some fresh herbs or something for more depth of flavor. Everone agreed that the fried potatoes were particularly good. Service was prompt and friendly and the supervisor was making the rounds and stopped at our table to ask about food and service. Prices are a bit high but acceptable given the relatively remote location. Its the place to eat at Mt McKinley Princess Lodge. read more

Spare yourself...I had the crab stuffed halibut, was absolutely over cooked and dry. My son had the kids salmon it was not edible. Service is barely buffet level. 4-5 star prices, 2- star quality food and service. Save yourself. The server even said "don't eat the chicken pot pie, it's made here and it just never turns out". This is the more upscale restaurant in the Mt. McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge. We made 7:00 reservations for dinner last night. They gave us a light-up buzzer gadget and after a brief wait we were seated at a two-top. Our server was Martina and she was adorable, but not the best listener. We looked over the menu and had decided to split the blueberry salad. I saw the short rib pappardelle and Alan wanted the ribeye steak. Martina came over and started telling us her recommendations rather than asking us what we wanted. As a result, she didn't process it when I told her we had already decided on the salad when she recommended it. We discovered this when our mains were delivered w/o the salad having been brought. We told her and she was chagrined and brought us the salad and comped it, which we appreciated. It was a good service recovery. To drink I ordered an Explorer Martini and Alan ordered a Kenai Oatmeal Stout. He commented that they missed an opportunity when they didn't stock Moose Drool beer. This was perhaps the best dinner we've had in Alaska. The salad was delicious, w/ mixed lettuces, plump, fresh blueberries, lightly candied pecans and goat cheese w/ a blueberry vinaigrette. So, so good, and a generous portion. The short rib pappardelle was heavenly, two of my favorite things combined and perfectly cooked. The dish was presented covered by a cloud of freshly grated Parmesan which mixed nicely into the dish. The short ribs, in a light, tomato-based sauce, were pretty much w/o fat. I didn't see or taste it. The pasta was cooked al dente. The portion was generous w/o being overwhelming. Alan's ribeye was cooked medium rare as requested and he was pleased w/ it. The taste he gave me was good. The accompanying fries were unsalted as requested. He liked the stout. I liked my martini, although it wasn't quite cold enough. It was tasty, though, and the olives were good. read more
