Talkeetna which is rumored to be the town Molly of Denali's Qyah is modeled after is the perfect place to stop between Denali Area and Anchorage and beyond. If you have time to drive into Downtown Talkeetna for lunch, do it. We chose Salmon Spot for everything salmon. We got the salmon burger, salmon cakes with dressing, and salmon chowder for lunch. My favorite was those salmon cakes as it wasn't heavy and left me enough room for the chowder. There is a couple of small tables right next to it that but the patio that is shared with other food trucks and the hotel was also open for us to enjoy our lunch. read more

We highly recommend this place! It is a food truck, a d unfortunately it was raining the day that we went. They do have a few covered tables sitting outside that we were able to snag. We ordered two orders of the crab cakes and a chowder bread bowl. The crab cakes were really good but kind of small. We did ask for no sauce on one of the salmon cakes and it came out with it, but they easily switched it back out. I really enjoyed the chowder and the bread bowl really gave it some extra substance. It didn't have huge chunks of meat in it, but it was very tasty. read more

I had the chowder and the salmon burger. The burger was actually scooped raw out of a container and grilled in front of me. It was phenomenal. My wife had the grilled salmon patty on salad also very good. The chowder was outstanding. I highly recommend this place prices. The owner, a gentleman from Texas is very friendly and very accommodative. If you wanna park and eat in your car nearby, you can park at the post office directly beside the business. read more

Amazing service, food came out quick and was outstanding. We got three salmon burgers (fries were worth the extra cost), chowder in a cup, and chowder in a bread bowl. Everyone was happy with the burgers 10/10! The fries were nice and crispy, and we were able to get ketchup cups to go. The employees were very considerate and gave us the option of taking the bread bowl home to warm up so it wouldn't get soggy. The bread bowl made the chowder even better. My girlfriend likes to journal, and they looked for a flyer to give her when she asked, which was nice. read more

Stopped in for lunch after our flightseeing tour with Talkeetna Air, and we were so glad we did! The salmon burgers were fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. This is a little food truckish stand that sits among other food trucks around a huge outdoor patio with chairs and tables. The prices here are unbelievably low and the food was great. I had a spinach salad with veggies and 3 large salmon cakes and it was only $14. My friend had the salmon burger which looked fantastic too. No line, no wait, big portions and low prices and great food. Friendly staff also. read more

My husband ordered the salmon chowder and the salmon cake salad. I had my heart set on fish and chips from a different food cart, but after trying my husband's food, I had to order the salmon cakes. The salmon was so fresh and the spinach salad was divine. Whatever dressing they pair with it is perfection. It was a sunny day and we sat on the patio. Prices were great and the service was quick. If you e never had salmon cakes, it's definitely something worth trying. It packs a nice salmon flavoring with a nice seasoning and lemon zest. Pricing wasn't too bad since it is seafood and it is prepared into a patty form. This is a definite must try if you're in Talkeetna! read more

We stopped in to get a quick salmon fix after a quick hike and loved our burger! Quick service and the chef recommended putting pepper and Sriracha on it (which we did and it tasted amazing - plus some potato chips for extra crunch)! The flavor of the burger is so good and all the components (spinach, bell pepper, teriyaki, Mayo, etc) elevate it nicely! This was the perfect quick bite and we would definitely recommend! read more

For a refreshing, light and delicious meal, The Salmon Spot is definitely a must-have. We stopped by Talkeetna during a weeklong trip and I have to say this was one of the best meals we've had. The owner told us they came from Juneau and things have been slow so I'm telling everyone to check this place out. It is so worth it! We ordered a salmon burger and the salmon salad. The salmon patties were excellent. The flavors of the miso dressing on the salad and the burger sauce blended perfectly. It was so fresh and flavorful! I seriously was so happy after this meal. Cost: very affordable, especially compared to other places we've been to in Alaska! Lots of free seating in the beer garden to the right of the food truck :) read more

This is a little food stand tucked among some other restaurants and stands in Talkeetna. Do not pass this one by! The service was super quick--he had it ready in about 3 minutes after ordering. I only tried the salmon cakes, but I imagine all of their other menu items are just as good! The salmon cakes were made with silver salmon (and least this time of year), and topped with a maple glaze with other seasonings and spices. They are absolutely delicious. Do not skip The Salmon Spot! read more

Our server was magnificent! Everyone here represents the best of Talkeetna. Friendly, hip, open. This place offers some great beer and yummy sandwiches. Friends loved the soup on a cold day. Sat outside on deck but heater wasn't working! Yikes! Sun came out tho and all was sublime. I had fish and loved it. Grabbed the salmon cakes before going into the beer garden directly behind the Salmon Spot. The salmon cakes are served on a bed of fresh spinach with lemon. They're not made with much filler like breadcrumbs or potato flakes so the salmon really shines. They just have counter service but they were friendly enough. Skip the french fries; they were bland even with ketchup. But go try out the salmon cakes! read more

The elk sloppy Joe was a hit. It was a first for all of us (we each ate some), and we liked the taste and texture. The bill for 2 meals, 1 seafood hushpuppies appetizer, tax, "remote surcharge," and tip was $87.

When she brought the menu, i was shocked. I am sure, i am positive it used to be fatter, had many more choices, every other time I've been here. I distinctly remember a certain sauce or dip i used to order that had a funky name, and was sort of like a schmear but runnier. Now there's only a single page to order from. I wanted to leave. I honestly was on the verge of getting up and going. Anyway, I ordered the Stubbs Burger - hadn't realized he was the Mayor Cat dude, nor that the burger was named after him. Husband ordered the special which was a Brisket Sandwich, and some Jalapeno Poppers to start. The food was fairly fast to come out, and the Poppers were hot, and came with a cool, creamy sauce, maybe ranch? They were ok, taste like every other Jalapeno Popper I've had, I'm not that keen on them to be honest. Then the entrees came out very quickly after that, so i just got started on my burger. Well - see I've been off potatoes in all their glorious forms since February, but these beer-battered fries looked so appetizing, that i grabbed a handful and distributed them evenly across my burger. And i must say - the burger was perfect. I like a well-done, no-pink burger. This was absolutely exactly how i would have asked for it to be cooked if given the choice, i had to take off the onion and the tomato off (they give me stomachache) but of course the 10 fries i put in there filled the gap nicely. And the cheese was oozing very beautifully and dripping out of the bottom. It was gorgeous. He said his Brisket Sandwich was really good too, so despite the place's shabby, and rundown appearance, and slimmer menu - what they cook, they do it very well. I did hear disquieting rumours regarding West Rib, from people around town when i said i was going there for dinner, so whatever they've done, has gotten them a bad reputation in town, which is quite sad really. It holds fond memories for me, due to it being one of the first places my husband took me when we weren't married yet, and i hadn't moved here.

They told me they are having a hard time finding staff this year. Every time I've stayed in Talkeetna they've been closed, even when they told me they planned to be open. They aren't updating their website or voice-mail either. The place is dilapidated and run down as well. Such a shame.

Inside there are a myriad of pictures mostly of people you will not recognize because they tend to be local or traveling musicians that apparently provide amazing entertainment for the local folks. There is however, one famous picture and that is a John Denver and his dog catching a salmon. What about the food? I had a BLT which hit the spot and another in our group had a half pound burger which also hits the spot. I don't remember what the third person had but they enjoyed their meal and told me they would give it four stars. All in all it was a great visit we got her tummy is filled with some delicious food while soaking in local ambience. There was no live music while we were there, but I could imagine given all the pictures of musicians.
