A surprise of soft French bread was still delicious but not your traditional crispy bread. I think I actually preferred the bread here as it held the flavors well and made eating it less of a mess. The mint was a nice touch along with the traditional cucumber and daikon but I was missing some of the heat of there jalapeños normally included. If this had been I. A larger market like Denver, LA, Chicago ,etc... I would have given it 4 stars. Governed are 100 miles north of Anchorage with not many choices I gave it five stars because who could have expected a Bahn mi worth eating for $17 in this location. Again price being relatively reasonable for this area options so it's pretty good for the price For dessert I had the Blueberry Rhubarb crisp. Tasty and $7 was fine for this location. Service was friendly but took about 12-15 minutes for the sandwich, the dessert they gave us right away. Remember to bring cash as that is the only option they offer for payment!

We ordered and sat at a table, with the bread being ready in 5 minutes. For what you get, it's pricey. But the bread itself is great - as others have said, it's cheesy, garlicky, spinachy, and puffy. YUM.

Best dinner we've had in Alaska so far. Most places in Talkeetna seem to be bar/pub type…read morerestaurants. Kahiltna Bistro does have a bar, but lends itself more to a local, quieter restaurant. From the moment we walked in, we felt a friendly vibe. Our beautiful waitress, Rae-Janell, was helpful, attentive and her lovely smile made our delicious dinner even more enjoyable. While there, we watched locals stop in for a drink or to get their "oyster fix". They have a menu that is available all day and a dinner menu that begins at 5:00. Patrons talk to one another & we chatted with a gentleman who was from our home state of West Virginia (even though he was a Pitt fan). I splurged on the King Crab and it was worth every penny. My husband had the filet steak and said it was juicy and tender. If we are ever back in Talkeetna, we would definitely have a meal here again.

But as we waited for a bus back to our lodge, we had time for ciders (rhubarb and apple). Both were great. Even better: the ambience. This place is tiny, filled with locals and tourists, and just somewhere you could spend an Alaskan summer. The mostly seafood entrees smelled great. The staff were professional and friendly. We hope to return for a meal, the cider and the ambiance.

What a delightful find in Alaska!…read more The chocolate brownie was fabulous. The subtle addition of black beans gave it an incredibly rich, moist texture and somehow enhanced the deep chocolate flavor even further. The jalapeño chorizo quiche was simply to die for--a must-have. I've traveled extensively around the world, and this is genuinely one of the finest quiches I've ever had. Perfectly balanced, packed with flavor, and beautifully baked. The latte with caramel birch syrup was the perfect companion for the Alaskan weather. It leaves you with a wonderfully warm, comforting feeling that lingers long after the last sip. Don't miss the frosted coffee cake with lemon and berries. It's moist, fresh, and makes the perfect treat to pack along for a hike through the Alaskan woods. The bakery itself is incredibly quaint and charming, with beautiful flowers everywhere. It feels like stepping into a warm wooden cabin nestled in nature. The atmosphere is just as memorable as the food. I would absolutely love to visit Flying Squirrel Bakery again. It's one of those special places that makes a trip unforgettable.
