I think North Fulton is the second best of the Atlanta municipal golf courses behind Browns Mill. If I had to rank 'em, my list would be: 1. Browns Mill 2. North Fulton 3. Bobby Jones 4. Alfred Tup Holmes In terms of course conditions, I think Browns Mill and North Fulton are neck and neck. The conditions of the tee boxes, fairways, and putting greens are decent for munis. The greens in particular are in pretty good shape. Based upon my experiences with the four courses listed above, I think North Fulton is generally kept in the best condition. However, I like the layout and scenery of Browns Mill the most. North Fulton is located in Chastain Park, North Buckhead. There's a paved walking trail (Chastain Park Trail) that runs along the perimeter of the course. There are three tees: blue, white, and silver. From the blues (tips), the course measures 6,570 yards with a slope with a rating/slope of 71.9/126. Par 71 for men, par 73 for women. I do not think this course is very challenging and, quite frankly, some of the holes can get a little boring. In general, I do not think any of the Atlanta munis are very difficult and therefore, I think they are great courses for beginners and weekend hackers (like me). For the most part, the front nine is rather flat. There are more elevation changes on the back, but nothing too substantial. Water comes into play on a handful of holes. Rough is pretty much non-existent and it can be hard to find patches of grass on some swaths of fairway/rough. There are hole markers, ball washers, and waste baskets at every tee (you'd be surprised at the number of courses that don't have them at every tee) and they look relatively new. There is an adequate number of water coolers throughout the course, but no restrooms. I recall a shoddy-looking shack on the back nine, but it was fenced/locked up. This is a popular course and, like Bobby Jones, can get rather crowded on weekends. They have multiple marshalls ("ambassadors") monitoring play, but still plan on a 5-hour round if you play on the weekend. Several of the holes are positioned closely together so it's not uncommon to run into groups playing other holes or hearing the word "FORE!" yelled out multiple times in a single round. There is no driving range so you'll just have to hit a terrible tee shot and warm up on the front nine. There are two practice putting greens, in nice shape, in front of the clubhouse. There's really not a convenient bag drop at this course. The closest parking is on the street and there's a dirt lot you can park in a short ways down. I paid $45 after tax for my weekend morning round. This included the City of Atlanta resident discount (yes, residents get discounts so be sure to show your ID if you live in the city). The pro shop is big and basic with a TV, sofa, some golf equipement, apparel, food (hot dogs), snacks (chips, cookies, crackers), and drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic). Surprisingly and unfortunately, no beverage cart was seen during our entire round. The folks in the clubhouse were friendly. All in all, I think North Fulton is an OK golf course. It's economical and easy to get to if you live in the city. If you're not a golf snob and just want to get out and play, an enjoyable round can certainly be had here. read more

Not a big fan of this course, I think the price they charge for the quality of the course is a bit off. I also had a problem with them honoring a coupon that I purchased through their own website. The manager was like well i do all the coupons and I didnt put that one up even though I had printed that the same morning and paid for my tee time at the reduced rate. If you want to check it out its always good to try a new course but I wont be back due to my experience. read more

Located in Chastain park slightly west of Buckhead is the 18 hole public course North Fulton Golf. Normally in above average condition with decent greens it bust an area for practicing putting as week as chipping. Often very busy and crowded, is a little more cushy than other public courses which leads to the three star rating. I will return based on the location. read more

I posted up a review five years ago praising the city for the care and up keep of this facility. Our firm was a co sponsor of a golf outing yesterday for the commercial RE brokerage community. I was embarrassed. This place was a total dump with no effort to even cut the grass before the event took place. Greens slow, patchy and bumpy. Fairways and rough uncut with no manicuring of the tees. Weeds growing on the grounds surrounding the club house. Dirt fairways. Can go on and on. The recent news clip on the condition of Candler Park GC and total neglect by the city is a understatement. With all the tax revenues generated in this market don't understand why Parks and Recreation has totally dropped the ball on this site. Mayor Dickens is on his game just don't understand how this could play out during his tenure. Hopefully someone in city government will pick up this note and reassess their position. read more

Well, I played North Fulton Saturday and what a souvenir I got - a large purple bruise on my leg from being hit by a wicked line drive from a golfer on an adjacent hole. To his credit, he ran over to check to see if I was ok and apologized, so it was hard to be mad at him - but boy did that hurt! That and the fact they over crowd the course is why I try not to play the city courses on the weekends. It really is too bad, but North Fulton has a really good layout at a bargain price. Oh, also the greens sucked. They were so bumpy it was a joke. As Francis S noted, the par 5's are all three shot holes - I love the challenge on #5 to see how daring you are feeling off the tee. And on #17 teeing off from on high with a creek you have to stop short of. Try to play on a weekday. The marshall did tell me that late afternoon on the weekends can be a good time to get out as well. If you do play at peak time on the weekend, protect yourself. read more

Would have given more stars nice course but... If you don't want a tour guide on the course don't come here. Marshall with his Ga outfit on harassed us the entire round. Made our golf experience horrible. He let it be known that it is his course and will put us out. Now call me crazy under 2 hours completing 9 holes is not a bad round but apparently it is not fast enough for this course. Hard to say if I will ever come back again. He got in the face of my playing partner yelling. I had to calm him down and it messed up his great round. That Marshall needs another job and anger management. read more

Just played a round here this past Saturday and it was fun. Between the Chastain baseball fields, surrounding streets with constant traffic, and children playing in neighborhoods it was very noisy though. It was also very crowded. We were constantly waiting on the groups in front of us. One thing to keep in mind it that if you are a resident of the city of Atlanta you will get a discount. $39 for 1 round and cart instead of $44. They don't check your id though so its up to you... save money anyway you can. Not cooler friendly but if you're sneaky like me you can always find a way. There are a lot of beginner golfers here so be patient. The greens are hard and fast which added 2 strokes to every hole for me. This is still a fun course and challenging so check it out. read more

This course is located near Chastain park in Buckhead area in Atlanta. Course greens were a little worn down compare to others but this is a public course. Parking here is horrible due to share parking with Chastain park patrons. I wish there were more water holes but overall this is a average course. Best time to golf here is middle after noon weekdays. Tees times were very close together so my group had to wait almost hour behind a 6 person team with a dog! If you are looking for a nice course, its probably a good idea to join a country club or play outside the city. This is a high traffic area. . read more

I highly recommend this course. New championship Bermuda greens were in great shape. Teeboxes were in amazing condition, considering that they are very small and the course takes a very high volume of rounds from high handicappers. Excellent overall condition for an big urban muni. I'm a 7 handicap and found this course challenging from the tips. It requires alot of course management. I would have been in big trouble if I hadn't played with a local who guided me around the course. A number of holes require very well placed tee shots. Interesting set of par 5's, two demanding over 250 yard carries off the tee over hazards to be reachable in two. (I laid with a 4 iron on all three). There are several VERY demanding par 4's, but these are balanced by a few real short, easy par 4's. I had a great ballstriking day and shot a 77, but had to drop two 25 foot birdie putts to get there. Overall loved the course, friendly staff. No parking whatsoever. I would avoid this course at very crowded periods. You might have to park your car on the street half a mile from the clubhouse and I imagine play can be incredibly slow, with tons of high handicappers. I played in summer and teed off at 6:30 AM. That's the way to go. Great price too. $40 for a Saturday morning tee time. Fee courses north of the city where I live charge at least $65 and up to $120 for the same time slot. Sweet deal!!! This course is trash. Here is the review that I posted on google.... Rip Off. I played 18 holes on 4/3/11. They charged me $40 to play. I'm not kidding when I say there was almost no real sustainable grass and no fairway...all the grass was the same length...deadpan, mostly. Seriously, no fairway, no rough, no fringe, just deadpan. It was atrocious. The greens were patchy, sandy, bumpy, and virtually unreadable. I have never played on such a horrible course, including several cheap muni's in other cities and I am just appalled that they charged me the full summer price to play this pile of junk. On top of that, it took 5:45 to play 18 holes. The...."rangers"....the course has basically go around the course and look for balls in the water, rather than doing their job. The group in front of us had a total of 6 people and a dog and played extremely slowly...although 2 people and the dog didn't play. The group behind us kept hitting into us, as if WE were holding things up. There was no policing by the ranger. This course is a 100% rip off. This was the first and CERTAINLY the last time I'll ever play at North Fulton Golf Course. What a joke. Also, on the 10th "fairway", there was a rotting mouse that had easily gone through a week or two of entropy, so that right there tells you the last time a mower touched that fairway. It's criminal that they're charging full rates. Just criminal. I may just file a BBB report on them as well. This course is in worse condition than a course up north fresh off melted snow. Service is the most important thing to me, above the quality of the course, the greens, the price, service is number one. We golf for the experience, the entire experience, which includes service. Having said that, here is why I gave North Fulton a 1 star. I had two separate experiences that led me to never go back. Experience #1: The first time I went to North Fulton was 3 weeks after I moved to Atlanta from California. I was excited about living near a golf course. I made a tee time on a random Thursday for 1pm. I show up at 12:30pm to check in but the desk clerk said that I was too early to check in, and I had to come check in 15 min before my tee time. I've never heard that before, but ok I'll go putt for a few minutes (putting green is right in front of the club house). Then at 12:45pm I went back into the club house to check in, and there is a line of 4 other people. I step in line and wait for my turn. When I get up to the same guy, he says that I'm late for checking in (it's 12:55 now). I told him I was here earlier and I'm returning like he said. He said he'll let me play this one time because it was my first time. I thought that was bizarre that the rules were so strict. I played the course, which was nice, but didn't like the service at the beginning at all. Experience #2: So a few weeks later I returned to play and this day I was running late. I got to the club house 10 min before my tee time, thinking that that was enough time to check in. WRONG! I was told that since I didn't check in 15 min before my tee time that they gave my tee time away. I looked around and said, who did you give it to? (there was no one there). They then said that I have 15 min to 8 min to check in for my tee time, and I pointed at their own clock hanging on the wall that it still showed 10 min before my tee time. The clerk says "oh that clock is wrong, my watch says its loo late already." WTF! Are you serious? I didn't even bother to argue, and just left. I've played at many other courses in the Atlanta area (Bobby Jones, Tup Holmes, Stone Mountain and others) and many of the players have expressed the same experience at North Fulton. They say that because it's inside the city limits and more people want to play there, the course can treat people like crap. To them, the month still comes in. I hope you see the poor service/experience I got and would make you think twice about playing there. But as always if you don't believe me go try it for yourself. Thanks. read more

North Fulton is a really cool course. I'm probably saying that because I played my best golf there than I've played in a while :-). But really, its a nice course. It's in Chastain Park in Buckhead so it was nice to be out amongst all the folks out walking and jogging. There's a few blind hills on some of the holes, and also quite a bit of water spread throughout the course, but the greens are really generous and the fellow golfers are non-pretentious and friendly. Definitely worth checking out. (Note: I don't think there's a driving range on-site). read more

BEWARE OF THE RANGER!!! A group of guys and I had 3 tee times back to back to back and the three groups ahead of us were all no shows. Meaning there was a huge time gap between the group that teed off in front of us and when we teed off. Hole 3 comes around and this ranger drives up the me and rudely says "it's wide open up there, you guys really need to hurry up" I tried to politely explain that it would likely be open in front of us all day as 3 groups canceled. He called me a liar and said that no groups had canceled that day (not true) I let it go and told him we would play as fast as possible and went to the green for my putt. Two holes later he's sitting on a tee box waiting for us, he says "you guys have REALLY got to pick it up, you're holding the entire course up!!" The group behind us had not even made it to the tee box yet. We once again calmly explained that we were on pace for a 3 1/2 hour game and went to the tee box, he sat there and watched. Then the back nine starts. Once we finish out putts he gets in his cart and races over to the 10th green to watch us. Once we head to 11 he is sitting on the tee box staring at us, at this point we are all very fed up with the way he's been rude to us and very unprofessional. Once on the tee box another group is coming by and my buddy needed to move his cart. The ranger proceeded to yell at my friend calling him an idiot and asking him if he even knows how to drive. He then proceeds to start arguing with us and yelling at us (not saying anything about our pace of play anymore as he realized he was wrong) he told us that we were all young and in our 20's and that we all suck at golf, he couldn't believe we even wanted to play with how bad we are (I personally have a 12.4 handicap, not great but wouldn't say I suck) he continued to harass us and then complain that we hadn't teed off yet while he had been yelling at us the entire time. Once we finally teed off he literally followed us and sat on every tee box that we were on and then went to every green and watched us play. Had a very very hard time enjoying the course which was not a bad course for the price. But the ranger was by far the most rude, disrespectful, hateful and spiteful old man I had ever met. I will never return to this course, all due to the ranger ruining our day. I'm typically a very easy customer to please, this guy does not belong working in any public place. read more

this golf course is the busiest in the state of georgia (really it is!). so, imagine my surprise today to play with no one behind me and no one in front of me. truly a rare occurrence. of the four municipal courses, this is by far the most challenging track. there are only three (3) par fives (5) and each pretty much requires you to play in regulation (on in three). but what makes the course are the difficult par fours (4). numbers nine (9), fifteen (15), and eighteen (18) will make you bring your a-game. they replaced the greens about a year ago and they are rolling well. i would suggest going during the week, and even then you can expect slow play. read more

I've been playing N. Fulton since '65, when you just showed up and put a ball in a long pipe to determine order of play. The course was in pretty good shape then, but soon, ahem, changes in the city administration occurred, and golf seemed to be the least of their concerns. All city courses devolved into pastures even a cow would give thumb downs to, if they had thumbs. American Golf were called in and they deserve praise for saving the courses from utter collapse. N. Fulton is in the best shape in my 46 year experience. It's in good shape no matter to what other course it's compared. But it it crowded, and the service is certainly not personalized. No one should expect it to be. I shot 72 there 4 weeks ago, one of my best rounds ever, so I give it 5 bloody stars! read more

$50 for a round of golf at a below average golf course. There is something wrong with that price point. There are 8 minutes between tee times which instantly tells you the course will be backed up, and you will be spending 5+ hours on the course on any weekend day. You are better off driving OTP and finding a better track. Mystery Valley Golf Course is one of those courses. read more

My wife and I were looking for a reasonably priced golf course after playing Marietta CC and Ansley while visiting Atlanta for a few days of golf and nightlife. Based on the reviews intially I was concerned once my wife booked on Golf Now for $21 per person, but wow was I surprised. This course was really enjoyable. What great city and vista views. Also the greens were really good. While the pace of play was a little slow, it was because we followed a corporate outing. We definitely will play again if back in Atlanta. Great Find!!! read more

This horrendous rating is not in regards to the course, which plays well, but rather it's new management company. On the North Fulton voicemail which lists their rates, the resident rate is $35. After calling the clubhouse and not getting an answer during business hours, I was directed to such voicemail and informed of the rate. Upon arrival, I was instructed that I would have to pay $45. After telling the cashier about the advertises rate in the recording, she said that there was nothing she could do and that she would not honor the rate. After speaking with her manager, he would also not honor the rate citing new management. After paying an overpriced $45 for the course, I managed to play 14 holes before a torrential downpour and lightning storm approached. After waiting under a lone shack on 16 for an hour and a half, we were told the course was closed. We went back to the clubhouse to grab our rain checks, but to no surprise we were told rain checks would not be given to is since we had finished 14 holes. The manager would not work with us at all but remained in his office even after we asked to speak with him face to face. Needless to say, North Fulton's new management only care about making every dollar they can get their hands on and not about the patrons who have been playing the course for years. I would not recommend such an establishment. read more
