Advertised as Greenwich's 'night out under one roof', this place has a bar/club on the bottom floor to fulfil your cocktail desires, and a charming rustic restaurant on the top with maroon colored wallpaper and exposed stone along the bar. Now, I will a little worried by this, having seem the ice blue lighting of the downstairs 'South Pole' upon coming in. However, my worries were quelled by the well thought-out (though not extensive) modern European menu and the country-home feel. There are also goldfish in the bottom compartment of the chandeliers. Interesting. My main course, which was the honey-glazed Barbary duck breast, was hands-down the best duck I have ever had. I was worried that it would be too sweet with the cherry sauce but it worked beautifully with the sweet potato puree and the greens. My culinary companion that evening said that the pan friend sea bass was just as awe-inspiringly good. I still can't get the tenderness out of my mind and the perfect flavoring of the potato. The service is almost impeccable, with an attentive staff to take our coats and ensure we had the choice of tables.The apple pie was lovely, but also not the typical pie which you would have bargained for. It was more dense and the apples were minced and baked in, making it more of an apple torte with vanilla ice cream. Problem areas? There was only one other occupied table when we came in but it still took a long time to get our bill and to have our water filled. Also, my tiramisu dessert had an overpoweringly caramel based taste. We both agreed that it was not anywhere near the creamy, light, and chocolatey dessert we had hoped for. read more

At first, the ambiance was a bit cold. But shortly after we arrived, music had gone one, the place filled up and the drinks started flowing. The menu wasn't massive, but had a lot of really appealing choices. Stuck between two choices, we ordered both and split. I had the Sirloin, which was delicious. The chorizo mashed potatoes were possibly the best thing I've ever eaten. Despite two starters, two mains and a bottle of wine, the bill was just under £100, which was amazing for the quality and service. Even better, they surprised my wife with a dessert for her birthday, including a massive flaming firework in it! Will definitely be back here again. read more

Stumbled across this place and had such a hilarious night there. It's quite (very) essexy glammed up girls and gangster guys. However, everyone is there to have a good time and everyone was very relaxed. No fights just people enjoying themselves! Drinks fairly cheap, and the music was phenomenal- old school garage and plenty of return of the mack style numbers. We loved it. Slightly grubby and the bouncers are a bit over the top with their rules and regs. Oh, and it's the sweatiest place on earth. For these points I remove a star. 4 stars of true awesomeness though. This place, my visit here, it wasn't intentional. I just thought of having something light before I went to the West Greenwich Community Centre, which is located right next to this restaurant. But I was totally surprised with the quality of food they served. Mind blown! Chefs, I salute you. I had the best vegetable tart ever from this place. I'll never forget. I never thought vegetables could taste so good. Now I feel I should go there again to try out other items on the menu. They had some deals and they also have a yelp deal. Check-in when you are here to collect your offer. I went for a two course meal, which proved to be less expensive than buying individual items from the a-la-carte menu. But it is totally your choice. They also have a large selection of wines which people sitting around me were having. But I just wasn't in a mood to try some that day. I'll make up for it next time. I'm glad I visited this place. When in Greenwich, London, check out North Pole! We stayed at a travel lodge a few blocks away and decided to check this out for the night. The place is nicely decorated, with downstairs (considered South Pole) for dancing and disco needs, the level ground as the lounging and classy dancing needs, and the back room for shisha! Yes, shisha! There were lights decked out like stars in the back patio and chandeliers to top off the ambiance. The service was great as well. We were rounded up to go inside after the Shisha section closed for the night but the party inside was excellent! The DJ, I think thus far, is my favorite! Back to back music mixed with a little bit of old school, modern and dance music. Everyone looked too classy to dance but there were a few drunk patrons dancing. We ended up staying till almost closing, just enjoying the music and a little side dancing. Would definitely recommend! read more

I am definitely a fan of the North Pole. I came here for my birthday last night with a bunch of friends and we were kind of amazed by the fact they sell laughing gas. It was just incredible. I love the fact its a pub and a club so got something for everyone. I would love to try the shisha lounge sometime. read more

I have eaten here many times while in London for business. High quality food. The sirloin and duck were cooked to perfection. My family recently held a surpise 80th birthday party at this venue. I have to honestly say I was very disappointed. The staff were rude, lacked either the basic customer service. The party started at 7pm, as parties go, guests do not pile through the door at the same time. We were later informed by family that they were charged entrance fee. We booked the venue 7pm-11pm. At 10.30pm bouncers interrupted the party, saying we are to change the music, and to clear the decorations. At 10.45pm we were marched out of the venue. Although the party was enjoyable, a well attended event, it was almost spoilt. We paid a decent amount of money for this venue, the service we received was awful. I would never recommend this venue. read more

we get to this pub usually around 8pm for a few drinks and end up staying to the early hours in the club downstairs. the drinks are slightly expensive, but its worth it for such a nice location and bar. they have leather couches up stairs which are really comfortable but u will not get one if its busy. the downstairs is a nice small club with ok music. to dance the night away. it seems a lot of people come here before going to the Venue in new cross Not the easiest place to get to but then again if your not too lazy then its is a short walk from Greenwich. read more

RESPONSE TO PREVIOUS REVIEW FROM MANAGEMENT AND STAFF AT NORTH POLE - This is from the management AND staff of the North Pole Bar and Restaurant. We feel that we must respond to such a strong review. Firstly we would like to point out that this party actually took place in the South Pole basement club and so has no bearing on any other areas of the venue. We are very disappointed to read this review since we went out of our way to accommodate the party at just two day's notice. Due to a mix up amongst themselves the customers holding the celebration had not booked or confirmed the venue or paid any deposit. We agreed to offer them the space, despite them not having a booking, as a gesture of good will because we understood that they would not have found another venue at such short notice. That being said it was made clear to the family members who came in and made the last minute booking that on Saturday nights we are open as a normal club night and although we were making an exception and taking their booking on that evening, it would only be under the agreed terms. These terms were to fall in line with our standard policies and licence hence putting restrictions on the closing times and the age of the guests that we could accept and our dress code. It was also made clear that we charge on the door after 9.00pm so any individuals entering the bar after that time would be charged. This was agreed by the family members who made the last minute booking as was also agreed that clearing of decorations and buffet from the room would need to start at 10.30pm for the room to be ready for public use by 11.00pm at the latest. However they did not leave until 11.20pm. CCTV will prove this. We took no payment of deposit or hire charge for this booking and so no money was wasted. The only money paid to us was for the drinks consumed on the night and for the late comers entrance fees. Our staff were very professional in relaying messages from the owner to the customers in a polite manner and explaining our policies and licencing to the guests. Individuals from the party were in fact caught smoking weed on the premises and some guests were demanding entrance with children as late as 10.30pm and other guests did not follow the dress code and were wearing caps, hoodies and trainers. When approaching these individuals the staff were subjected to tirades of abuse and aggression and in fact showed outstanding customer service in dealing with the absurd demands of these individuals. Certain guests were attempting to bully their own way in and frankly we feel it is very unfair and petty to criticize our establishment for not bending the rules and our legal obligations to offer your party special treatment. We feel it was actually those few individuals mentioned who tainted the celebrations for the rest of the guests, as we ourselves did our upmost to appease everybody despite the issues. read more

About a month ago I helped organise a surprise 50th birthday party for a friend here. We reserved the smaller dining room which very comfortably accommodated the 20 people we had. Very good space with decor that feels quite sumptuous but not pretentious. No cost except £100 deposit. It was for a Sunday lunchtime. We had the set 3 course menu very good value at £16.95 a head. Roasts very good, but other options available. For that size we did book ahead everyone's options but it worked well. We had excellent service and no sense of being chased from the space. We were there from 3pm till 7.30pm. I was very impressed by the food and whole experience for such a price. And it's very close to DLR and overground. read more

My sister had her hen night here. There was also a stag night going on too so you can imagine it was quite lively. It has a fantastic atmosphere and was really buzzing. The bar upstairs is called the North Pole and then there is a bar downstairs called the South Pole. The South Pole bar that looks like it is made out of ice; the whole disco area is supposed to replicate an ice bar and does quite a good job of it. There were big burly bouncers at the door who you wouldn't want to mess with. All in all we had a fantastic evening. The music was good and not too loud and there were no scuffles or fights. Great place to socialise there's a bar, a club in the basement and a restaurant upstairs. Having been before to the bar and club we decided to try the restaurant. Unfortunately the food and service in the restaurant did not live up to the hype or the prices charged. When we received our main meal the potatoes tasted stale as if they'd been microwaved and I couldn't cut through my roast beef...when the waitier asked if everything was ok we explained and he said yes it had been cooked in the morning and yes it had been reheated and what did I expect at 7pm on a Sunday? I was in complete shock...If the restaurant is open for a dinner service then they should have a chef to cook fresh food not plate up reheated food from the morning!!!! being in shock we decided to pay the bill and leave. Will definately not be going back here for a meal, which is a shame because its got great potential. read more

Food is lovely and good value for the 50 percent off offer that the restaurant has on at the moment. I had the pork belly with lentils, could not see what the purpose of the lentils were, but the dishes was well presented. The staff were polite and attentive, but not over the top.
