The Vibe: A Moving Meditation It never ceases to amaze me how yoga seems to meet us exactly where we are and offer exactly what we need. Today was one of those days. The Guide: Sabina Weber * Flow 2 Flow 2 with Sabina wasn't about challenging ourselves to get into the deepest expression of any pose. As she beautifully framed at the beginning of class: "We use the poses to connect to ourselves." That became the entire practice. We began on our backs with deep breathing, slowly easing into our bodies before movement emerged, one pose unfolding into the next. Throughout class, Sabina's cues brought us inward: * Connect to yourself. * Breathe into the space you've created. * Let the body feel good. At the peak of the flow, she instructed us that if we lost connection with our breath, we were in Child's Pose...and to stay there until it returns. The beautiful part? That was never necessary. Even while completely drenched in the infrared heat (sweat pooling around my mat), the practice remained gentle, graceful, and deeply connected, a true breath-to-movement meditation. The soundtrack echoed everything Sabina was teaching. Breath In, Let Go by Aurenza (AURENZA - Breathe In, Let Go) filled the room, reminding us to soften, release, & return. The Tribe: A room full of yogis breathing as one. I arrived early and was the first person in Studio B. Every time this happens, I wonder: "Am I going to be the only one here?" (This may actually be one of my favorite rituals in yoga...) Lying on my mat with my eyes closed, I listened as the room gradually came alive: The sound of feet on cork flooring, mats unrolling, and blocks finding their place around the room. Then Sabina entered. I opened my eyes to a room now filled with yogis. (There's just something really beautiful about that moment. ) The Space & Place: A gathering place for slowing down. North Ray made a wonderful first impression. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I was welcomed immediately by Aubrey at check-in, who helped me get settled and acquainted with the space (a reminder of how welcoming yoga communities are).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Worn wooden benches and scattered shoes on the concrete floor are signs that this community has been here before and keeps coming back. The aesthetic blends industrial and cozy: Exposed ceilings, warm wood, soft lighting, plants, retail displays, & artwork throughout create a space that feels calm and modern. Studio B continues that feeling: Expansive ceilings, a cork floor beneath your feet, soft globe lights hanging overhead, a skylight above, & plenty of room to move and breathe. Practical Notes: The studio offers $3 valet parking on-site, but I arrived early and found plenty of street parking. The she/they locker rooms are clean and beautifully designed, with plenty of lockers and built-in locks, showers, restrooms, and a styling station stocked with thoughtful amenities. The Sum-Up * Infrared heat. * Steady, gentle breath. * Ease & grace. * A room full of yogis moving in a collective rhythm. This was a gentle class where I softened. That's exactly what I needed because, I swear, yoga always meets you where you are. Loved this! read more

The best practice I've ever experienced. The temperature was perfectly hot, bringing you to a slow steady sweat. The room itself had incredible ambiance with low lighting from the skylight and the silent space offers momentary relief from the busy lifestyle most of us take on. North Ray echo park is a beautiful hot yoga studio that offers a variety of classes and services, including a cold plunge and sauna! The teachers are top notch and every class seems intentional and spiritually grounded in a way that feels simple and real, rather than that overly sincere, new age-y feeling that can come so often in LA. I would highly recommend this space for anyone looking for an amazing workout for their body and mind. read more

Personally, I love how strict they are with classes starting on time and respecting the quiet space. You know you're in a good spot when they offer such a generous sliding scale, too. I've lived on the east side for over 10 years and have been to many different studios, and I've found a home with North Ray Yoga. I've been going to North Ray Yoga since shortly after it opened--so about nine years now, back to when it was known as Modo Yoga. There's nowhere like it. The teachers are excellent, from top to bottom; they have such a wealth of knowledge, they create dynamic and fun flows, they maintain a positive energy that's palpable. I could go on. One of the most beautiful and relaxing Yoga studios I have ever visited. This is the third Modo Yoga location I've seen, and they hold their standards high in every location. I live in Santa Monica and was in DTLA for my jury duty. I decided to book a session here via Class Pass and am glad to report Modo Yoga is ClassPass-friendly in every location. Lorenzo at the front desk was friendly and helpful. He helped me set up an account and answered any questions I had. I love to come early to find parking and set up my yoga mat near the door, where it's a little cooler. You can tell that Modo Yoga is selective with the teachers they hire to teach at their locations. The instructor, Carly, was simply fantastic. The room is hot and quiet, but you still feel motivated! What I love about Modo Yoga is that their facilities are just top-notch. The women's changing room is spacious, with plenty of lockers, clean bathrooms, and six showers. I've gone to three classes here now through ClassPass and love it! The facilities are nice, with refillable water stations, and a clean locker/shower/bathroom area. Probably my absolute favorite thing about this studio is that there is FREE valet parking. LA problems for sure, but it's such a nice perk to not have to worry about parking and being late/turned away from a class because you had to circle the block for 10 minutes. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The valet person is also friendly and super efficient.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I used to do hot yoga pre-covid but recently started back up. I never feel uneasy if I need to take a break and grab water, which is not always the case in classes I attend, so I appreciated the positive environment of these classes. The first class I went to was a bit hot for my preference (103!) but the instructor assured me classes were usually a bit cooler than that. The next two I went to were more manageable. I appreciate the amount of classes offered and the space itself. Free valet (sometimes self parking) is also a plus. However, overall, it is overpriced. Classes do not have proper warm ups. Nor do instructors provide adjustments or corrections. Because of such, I have injured myself multiple times. I pay $175 for unlimited classes and the studio can't even provide complimentary hand towels for class? That's very odd to me. When I did rent mat towels ($3), they smell AWFUL. Awful. It's no longer an option for me. The studio itself does not warrant that price, either. Its appearance is cheap. I like modo! I've got to both La Brea and East. La Brea is slightly more modern, and but the parking stinks... East is MUCH smaller, but the parking is great. Fair enough trade off, I guess! The teachers have all been lovely. I haven't taking a class with a teacher I didn't respond to. The classes are INTENSE. If you haven't don't hot yoga yet, make sure you are ready! Bring a towel (or they'll rent you one), and bring lots of water. The only issue I had was getting some misquote bites at the East location, but other than that, I will continue to practice here when I can! read more

It's in one of the best buildings in town. It's located in a beautiful lot building with plenty of natural light, and a big parking lot. However, if you're not an architect enthusiast, you will find it annoying that this building, just like most good spots in LA, is also plagued by genuinely obnoxious people. I've been coming here for years and They've been failing at finding quality people to hire and it shows. Their classes are okay. Nothing particularly interesting, insightful, or inspiring. Some vinyasa moves combined with bodyweight workouts. Typical L.A. fashion yoga studio. They've been hiring more instructors with pretty abs and mid-western accents and less than average amount of vocabulary. Which is fine. I just want to get my workout and go. However, I draw the line when the staff is rude to the customer. Once a business starts doing that, it's doomed. That's deteriorating management. Especially, I noticed this one lady being particularly entitled and authoritative. She's a straight up bully. When I was one minute late to a class, she dealt with the situation with clear judgment and A LOT of attitudes. Today, I was there five minutes earlier, and when I walked over to the valet to ask if I could leave my key in the car, the man stared me down for about 10 seconds, not saying anything, then he yelled something in broken English, which I didn't understand. When I ask what he was saying, he yelled something again, which I couldn't understand. Long story short, the bully, yet again, ended up ganging up with the valet guy and yelling at me, telling me to not yell at their valet, who was also, yelling at me. I love how she just took off with that window of opportunity to be on the side of the vulnerable part of society, telling my obnoxious white-passing face to stop harassing them and simultaneously telling me that their valet had a 'very stressful day.' Gaining all the righteous position for her bullying. You could tell she's been doing this for years, she's a professional bully. You should have seen the entitlement in her face, like a doula of the universe herself. What a shame she works at a yoga studio, not part of the avengers. And what a shame that my white-passing immigrant ass just cannot accommodate one more entitled American who just has to be BETTER. THAN. EVERYONE. I come from another country ten years ago. I KNOW valets have stressful days. But I also know when you work in a service industry, you have to SERVE your customers. That's how you start having less stressful days. Maybe that's why I'm a customer at your expensive yoga studio, and you, an American, works at a front desk and it looks like you're not going anywhere anytime soon. And that's because you're unprofessional, on the contrary to what YOU would like to believe in. There, here's my two cents that I'm paying so I don't have to see your toxic face ever again. I refuse to be bullied by another entitled American. I think I paid my dues enough not having to do that ever again in this life time. So I guess there goes that for me, so long, Modo! read more

Still the best! They have Great new instructors since the pandemic and the workout and pilates classes are a great addition to the nice variety of Yoga classes. It is always very clean and safe and they have adapted splendidly to the ever evolving pandemic rules. Great studio! Took a Friday evening class with Caroline, which was a great workout. She had some great song choices, I ended up chatting with her after class to ask for the name of one song in particular that I really liked. The staff here are super welcoming and made sure to give me a thorough run down of how everything works for my first time. Make sure you take your shoes off when you first enter! The classroom is set up with these tape markings on the floor so everyone has their own space. I also noticed they have these refillable water bottles you can use for free. The locker room was nice and pretty spacious, plenty of showers available too. I think it's definitely one of the nicer locker rooms I've seen for a yoga studio. I needed to detox big time and while I had been to a couple of other hot yoga studios, this one caught my eye. Maybe it was all the five star reviews or the fact that their classes had music, but I was game to try. I read somewhere that this is one of the hotter studios and tried to prepare myself by hydrating big time before and during. It still felt like I was dying in the desert. But in the best way. I was DRIPPING within a couple of minutes. The Flow class I took with Mari was by far one of the best flow classes I had been to, and coupled with the heat, this was just the workout I needed. My only complaint was that it was a packed house, even super early on a Saturday morning. My claustrophobic self had a bit of anxiety but once I got into it, it was totally fine. Plus everyone was so, so friendly there. I went again just a couple of days after because I was sore the very next day. I figured the best way to work through the soreness was to go back for more. Their last class was a candelit yin class (YASSS) with Chip. It was so restorative and the instructor's words were so calming. I remember at one point, he told us we were in a safe place. And I definitely felt it. I walked out feeling amazing, both within my body and my soul. It was no surprise I had a great night of sleep soon after. My first night in weeks that I didn't wake up throughout the night. I'm sad that I won't be in the area for much longer. I wish I had found this place sooner, but I'll just have to max out my Modo Yoga time while still here. *prayer emoji* read more

I would not recommend this studio to anyone. The parking is horrible-- I've arrived 20 mins before class and not been able to attend because I could not find parking. Staff is rude and unhelpful. I've arrived to the studio to find the teacher simply didn't show up, and people were not refunded but rather only given the option of waiting an hour for the next class. An all around unprofessional staff and a horrible location with next to no parking right on the gross, traffic clogged part of Glendale Blvd makes for a crappy experience. There are too many other good yoga studios around to continue wasting time and money at this place. I certainly won't be back. read more

I used to love going to modo yoga because I loved the staff. Unfortunately, today I had a really terrible experience. First, they required masks upon entry which is understandable (but truthfully not a rule anywhere else, until Monday when we have to go back to wearing them inside), and then told me I needed my vaccination card to practice without a mask. I was vaccinated back in April, and I didn't have my card on me. I abided by there rules, but I personally could not participate while wearing a mask in a 100 degree room. Since they didn't send me a push notification (I have the app) or an email reminding me to bring my vax card, I asked them kindly for a refund. The two women working the desk were Julia and Caroline. Julia was somewhat pleasant and accommodating, while Caroline was an EXTREMELY rude "know it all". She refused to give me a refund at first. Her vibe was the worst I've ever experienced in a yoga studio, and she was horribly condescending and snappy. I explained to her the situation, and that my friend was on the way (who also didn't have hers, because she was not notified) and her attitude only progressed to get worse. It was also embarrassing because she made a scene in front of 3 other customers, instead of quietly coming to a solution. She continued to fight me across the desk. "It says it on our instagram account, you must've opted out of emails" is what she kept repeating like a parrot. Finally, when my friend walked in while I was demanding to get my money back she said we could have a refund or a credit. I was honest with her and said that her energy was repulsive, and I would not ever be practicing at Modo east LA again due to this situation. It seemed like she had finally understood the damage she had caused at that point. Nothing about this situation made sense. I'm not writing a bad review about the rules because I am very respectful of the situation/pandemic, but I am writing a review about the customer service in an EXPENSIVE YOGA STUDIO. When I attend yoga, I want to feel welcomed and comforted, as most people are trying to escape and decompress. This studio was the opposite. MODO YOGA IF YOU ARE READING THIS PLEASE LET YOUR STUDENTS KNOW WHAT IS NEEDED UP FRONT AND AT LEAST 24 HOURS IN ADVANCE, OR SEND A PUSH NOTIFICATION TO THOSE OF US WHO HAVE THE APP!!! IT'S EXTREMELY IMPORTANT, STOP HIDING INFORMATION. Your competitors are not doing this, so why are you? Also do yourselves a favor and get rid of Caroline. She shouldn't be involved in a spiritual practice since she clearly is VERY spiritually broken with toxic energy. Gross. read more

Modo is by far my favorite hot yoga studio in Los Angeles. The instructors and facilities are top notch and set it apart from other studios in the area. Every instructor I've had is knowledgeable, likable and brings more than just instructions. The space is clean and thoughtfully designed with mat cleaning racks, showers, lockers, water bottle filling station (and bottles to borrow!). Rentals are reasonably priced and there is complimentary valet! Highly recommend the studio! read more

I truly don't know what I would do without Modo Yoga in my life. I found it at a time I was recovering from chronic back pain 4 years ago, and I haven't stopped going ever since. I never enjoyed hot yoga but decided to try Modo since my friends all love it so much. I committed to trying it a month. So far, I still don't enjoy sweating a pool every class, but I do feel great after. I thought it would be gross to be in a studio where everyone sweats a pool but MODO is run incredibly well where it's super clean and the space is taken care of impeccably. The showers and women's locker room is clean and well maintained. You can rent mats and towels for $2 each, if you don't want to take home wet wet wet towels and mats. I enjoy starting my day here and there's plenty of classes all through out the day so it's very flexible to any schedule. All the teachers I've had so far: Sara, Anita, Grant, Robi, Laura are great. There's only so many yoga poses I can do in such heat, so I don't do as many advanced poses as I do in non-hot yoga. However, I do go often. read more

i've been practicing yoga for a long time. i've been to lots of studios and checked out several styles of yoga. this studio is a beginner studio. you practice will not evolve if you stay at this studio. they purposely "dumb down" the sequences because they're designed for a room that's packed. the classes are often packed, so you'll be really close to your neighbors (they have markers for mat placement). you'll never do an inversion or an arm balance other than crow pose. this is hot yoga, so you'll definitely get a good sweat on. i can't sat it's a great workout though. all that sweating makes you feel like you worked out hard, but you actually haven't. i never felt sore from any of their classes. if you're a serious yogi or you want to find a primary form of exercise, i don't recommend this place. i recommend this place for people who are newer to yoga, or just want to get their stretch on, or want to get a good low impact sweat on. the place is clean and has nice spacious locker rooms with showers. they have filtered water and free reusable water bottles that you can use for free. these things are great. they have mats and mat towels for rent. there's a coffee shop next door. they have a parking lot with free valet parking, but it can get full. if it's full, you have to find street parking which is a challenge. give yourself extra time to get there around rush hour cuz glendale blvd is usually clogged at that time. they stop letting people in right after the start time. read more

It's a great space! The classes are super interesting and a great balance between spirituality and "work out". I enjoy the sweating a lot. I love the mat cleaning racks, very convenient and practical, same with the lockers and showers, everything clean and nice. I love that if you bike they give you free rentals, that's very awesome! My only criticism would be their super strict punctuality, I was 1 minute late to a class and couldn't come in, and I find that annoying specially as it's located in an area that has a lot of traffic as it's close to a freeway ramp, and we all know how bad traffic is in LA and hard to get to places. I'd appreciate more flexibility regarding that, specially when classes don't end at the exact time they're supposed to sometimes. read more

The shower/locker area was some of the cleanest I've ever experienced at a studio. Parking is free and around the corner. Don't miss it cause it takes a second to get around the street again. The instructor was phenomenal. Made corrections as necessary and kept a great flow the entire class. I was looking for some pain relief and relaxation and this absolutely helped immensely. The class was great for beginners and featured more advanced positions with modifications. Never felt like I was totally lost. Such a wonderful experience. Can't recommend highly enough. read more
