The two-storey Persian restaurant with a patio (for summertime) can accommodate 180 people during winter and 280 people in the summer. The portion of the food is reasonable and it tastes really great. The service seem rather slow though.

I had a wonderful meal at North Restaurant. Located at the intersection of Yonge and Steeles is this beautiful Persian restaurant. They have a really nice patio, so definitely book a reservation! I came on a weekday night for dinner, and I made reservations in advance. The server was very courteous and friendly. Decided on the kashke bademjan (eggplant) and khiar (yogurt) for appetizers. The apps came with some pita bread. They were absolutely delicious! Bademjan is such a unique and tasty dish and this place makes it very well. For the main I got fesenjan - it's a stewed chicken. It has a tangy sweet ish taste - so unique. Everything was cooked perfectly! Finally I got saffron ice cream for dessert - you definitely don't want to miss out on getting that - it's amazing. Also got baklava which was made fresh. The price point was also very reasonable. Between 2 people we paid $30 ish each for splitting 2 apps, 1 main, and 2 desserts. All in all, I'd recommend this spot in North York for some delicious Persian food!

I booked a table for 10 people last night. We had almost a private room for ourselves with a beautiful traditional North of Iran colorful design. It was very nice. We ordered a sample of different appetizers and they were all great specially Eggplant Kabob, Kashk Bademjan and Baghala ghatogh. The main course was very delicious. The portion very generous. The plate was beautifully designed with personal rice with tahdigh. The restaurant offered salad as a promo and we appreciated it. Our waitress Farnoosh was extremely professional, polite and patient. All 10 of us loved our food and we spent 4 hours enjoying the food and chat, I highly recommend the North Restaurant, atmosphere, quality of the food and taste. Our favorite main entrees were Kabob Torsh, Soltani and chicken kabob.

This is a specialty Persian food restaurant which serves authentic food from northern region of the country . This is as close as you can get to food that you can actually find on northern Iran , where people favor sour-sweat mixture . Herb-heavy but not hot spicy . They still serve the usually kabob which is more widely find in any other Persian restaurants . Their servers are extremely helpful and can guide you through menu in case you don't have a Persian companion

Beef kabab and white fish with herb rice

Whenever my friend and I visit Toronto, we make it a point to eat at this lovely Persian restaurant. I like the cozy, woodsy decor. We wish we had a Persian restaurant of this quality in Western New York. Thank goodness a drive to Toronto is easy from our hometown. So much good food and variety "North" of the border. :) Ground beef kabab with zafran rice, perfectly cooked and seasoned. Always a good choice. My friend sticks to this option and it's consistently tasty and cooked just right. I usually order one of the chicken kabab dishes, which are excellent. This time I wanted to try something different. The white fish with herb rice caught my eye. It turned out to be a good choice. Crispy on the outside, fried but not at all heavy or greasy. Tender fish filet on the inside. A good squeeze of lemon made the fish stand out. The herb rice went well with the fish, very tasty. We always leave satisfied. Service is polite and efficient too. And the US exchange rate is a bonus. All around a winner.

Loved the interior design of this place, it was almost like eating outside without the cold and bugs! They really did put a lot of effort and money into it, and I really appreciated it despite never have been to any small villages in Iran that this was supposed to replicate. Food wise, I thought it was good. The meats were very flavourful and I particularly enjoyed the chicken! Even when I had it again the next day, both the veal and chicken were soft and not dry in the slightest. Portions were huge. I feel like the north special could very well be a 2-3 person meal especially with all the rice it came with. I guess considering the portions the prices are decent, but it is more than what I would have liked to pay for a meal. I was surprised though, they do have an extra surcharge for bringing your own cake which is very strange to me. My main concern is really the service. Unfortunately they were super short staffed and we were a big table so I can understand the slow service and not being attentive. However, there was a lot of mix up and orders were missed. I expected a little bit better experience if I'm paying this much for a meal, but overall still a nice looking place with some good Persian food.

My family of 5 ordered 2 Koobideh Kabob, 1 Vaziri Kabob, 1 bademjan kabob and for dessert, the Persian ice cream and we still had leftover to take home! The food Delicious. The meat was well seasoned and cooked perfectly. The kabob were not dry at all. You get 2 large pieces of koobideh per plate along with rice and a roasted tomato. The Vaziri kabob comes with 1 grilled chicken skewer and 1 beef (along with rice and tomato). Again, no complaints. This dish was tasty. The bademjan kabob was my favourite- its Pan fried eggplant stuffed with a mixture of walnuts, pomegranate paste and molasses sauce. This should be eaten with warm pita- which is served complimentary for the table. Comes with 2 pieces. The ice cream was bad. The saffron and rose taste was present but there were large chunks of ice which made it very difficult to enjoy. I won't be ordering this again. Service Very slow. Our waiter was nice but not attentive. Came to our table infrequently and wasn't fully aware of the menu items. For all these dishes are bill was just under $85. Well worth it for the quantity and quality of food.

Great quality Persian food, friendly service, reliable. Lots of seating options in the cool indoor environment but also good patio! A Persian friend took me after going for many years with family.

When we got there, we were left unattended for about 8 minutes or so with no one else in line. I get it, covid 19 times means lots of orders to attend to, no biggie. We placed our orders for 2 chicken shawarma plates. It turned out they charge a small fee for using credit cards. I'm not sure if this was something this establishment was doing prior to covid 19 since this was my first visit but you would think amidst this pandemic that a restaurant would discourage the use of cash altogether, but not this place. Mind you, the fee wasn't anything big but it was the principle that matters. Anyway, the food itself wasn't all that good. The chicken was dry, the potatoes were hard, the rice had this buttery taste and their version of the white garlic sauce was something out of a ranch salad dressing bottle. Also, the hot sauce they provided was from the Red Rooster bottles you would find in Asian grocery stores. I've never ever had this kind of hot sauce from a shawarma joint, lol. Definitely not coming back to this one!

The potatoes are okay but a little on the dry side. The chicken shawarma and lamb shish kebab came with a generous amount of meat and we were happy. The meals came with a hot sauce (small size) and a white creamy sauce (big size). I enjoyed the sauce but we ended up squeezing some lemon juice on our lamb to minimize the gamey taste. There was also salads that came along with the meals. I would say the chicken shawarma was better than the lamb. I think we probably would head back next time.

Sababa in Thornhill doesn't chase trends--it outlives them. I've been eating here for 30 years,…read morewhich in restaurant time is basically surviving a war, and Sababa is still standing, still feeding people the way it always has: honest, soulful Middle Eastern food that shows up every day and does the job right. This is the kind of place where the menu hasn't been "reimagined," because it never needed to be. The chicken skewers dinner is a personal staple--charred just enough, juicy where it counts, seasoned with the confidence. The shawarma is famous for a reason: shaved hot, spiced deep, and piled without apology. You start with the dip platter because that's what you do here--hummus, tahini, baba ghanoush--the opening handshake before the real conversation begins. Attached to the restaurant is a grocery store that feels like a lifeline--shelves of hard-to-find ingredients, spices, and staples that remind you food isn't just something you order, it's something you live with. There's also a takeout counter with a few tables, perfect for quick eats that turn into longer stays because the food demands your attention. Sam Azar founded the place, and the legend goes deeper than the menu--he even made their lentil soup recipe public, giving it away to the newspapers like a gift, not a secret. That generosity still hangs in the air. Today, his children carry the torch, and you can feel the continuity: same spirit, same standards, same refusal to mess with something that works. Sababa isn't flashy. It's better than that. It's dependable, rooted, and quietly excellent--the kind of restaurant you measure your life around, not your Instagram feed. Find calm fam atmosphere, not TikTok madness with a side of chaos. CHEERS!!!

The dining hall was closed, so I ordered food from their next-door Sababa Mid-Eastern Groceries store's to-go counter at the back. First item that caught my eye was their steak liver pita. I also ordered a bowl of their famous lentil soup and grabbed a bottle of Efsane Uludağ Gazozu. The liver was as I would hope, rich iron-y flavor with fresh lettuce and tomato salad with a dash of chili flakes. I pretty much inhaled it, as I was famished. However, it was the lentil soup that made me take pause. I have made lentil soup at home in the past with meh results, but tasting this rendition's unassuming, yet thoroughly satisfying flavor and filling consistency made me want to try again. Lastly, the uludağ rounded out everything nicely, a slightly different crispness to it that took me by surprise. A humble feast was had.

We opted for the vegetarian mix-and-match plates, which came with either rice or salad, 5 small sides, and 3 falafels. Most of the items were pretty good, my favourites being the arnabeet (cauliflower), eggplant with chickpeas and tomato-based sauce, bamya (okra), and white cannellini beans salad. The warak enab (also called dolma or stuffed grape vine leaves) was flavourless and had too much ratio-to-grape vine leaves ratio (more rice inside that I'd like). The tabbouleh was way too salty. The other dishes were good though. Although the manakeesh was made fresh to order, it came out pretty fast. It was also extremely salty. There were a few small tables by the take-out counter, for those who wish to eat the take-out items on the spot. They packaged all the items very well to avoid leakage.
