The feeling was all too familiar as I had sprained my ankle over a decade ago on NYE. For the first few days I figured I would be fine and tough it out on my own. I eventually came to Endeavor Health/NorthShore hospital in Skokie and visited their Ortho Immediate Care unit. I wanted to make sure it was just a sprain and nothing more. I arrived as a walk-in on a weeknight sans appointment and met with Dr. McCracken soon after checking in. He ordered an x-ray and within minutes after the x-ray, he was able to read and go over the results with me. Thankfully he found no visible breaks in bone, wrote up a doctors note for work and placed me on an ankle brace for a couple of weeks until my ankle fully healed. It's been a month since my injury and I'm happy to report that I am near to full function! I'm able to walk with no issue and have made progress. I've started to go back to the gym with the hopes that in a few weeks I'll be run ready. I'm so glad the Endeavor Health/NorthShore Immediate Care Ortho facility saw me during a weeknight. There's not many Ortho Immediate Care facilities I'm aware of and with this location less than 20 minutes away, this was super convenient.

I've found Oakton Park Medical Center to be extraordinarily competent from the front desk to the doctors. And they are technologically advanced - you get notifications, online access, electronic sign-in... even a tablet if the front desk is occupied. Doctors listen and explain everything. There's no rushing you out. No rushing you off the phone. If you have a question, they answer confidently and competently and do what they say. It's a medium sized office and they do stuff like ultrasound and labwork in-house so you don't need to run around for everything. One little thing I'm slightly concerned about is if under an HMO (since you need to see your PCP) an appointment will be available on short notice like a walk-in. Some larger places have walk-in hours, but that's not really a huge issue for me and I'm pretty sure they'd accommodate anybody in need based on the situation as they've been nothing but helpful with me. In my past experience with a Northshore Health office, my past provider was similar to ATT or Comcast - just too big and clumsy... Rude front desk that was too busy to answer you. My doctor would come in, see me for maybe 5 minutes, then walk out for five minutes. Then walk in for another minute and that's my appointment. If there's a billing issue, there'd be nobody competent enough to help you or if there was, good luck figuring who that is. At the time I had a PPO. After a couple years my specific Blue Cross PPO was no longer accepted by Northshore but nobody thought to check before my appointments. So I started getting charged out of network and I didn't understand what was happening so I paid. And they keep sending bills for something they should have caught. So I don't want Oakton Park to be too busy and turn into this mess, but they deserve the gratitude. A breath of fresh air in Skokie.

They want you to use their online system, but if you send a message, no one will read it (you can see your message marked as "not yet read by staff" 8+ hours after you sent it). And good luck getting connected to a nurse on the phone. And this has happened on multiple occasions. During COVID, I brought my kids in for their yearly check up specifically for their vaccines. Well, their ordering system was down so no vaccines & no one bothered to call or tell us ahead of time. Multiple needless appointments during a pandemic is not great, with work & school missed. I love my kids' doctor--he is kind & knowledgable. I really do not love this practice though. And since our doc is likely close to retirement, I don't recommend this practice for pediatrics. Dr. Ryan Harold was my surgeon and I was very happy with his work as well as his general demeanor, manners, and professionalism. He even let me have my music of choice from their Pandora app in the operating room, and he did the surgery to ACDC, yeah! The receptionist and all of the physician assistants and nurses I encountered were friendly, competent, and professional. It might not appear so from the exterior of their big building, but the operating area of this practice is pretty much a hospital setting, and it's a large and busy one. Before the surgery, all of the required forms and health surveys were sent out on a timely and clear basis via both text messaging and email. I was also notified before the surgery date of my expected post insurance bill. I was impressed and pleased with my experience here, and thank you!

Someone had attempted to charge a plane ticket thru Southwest Airlines. I don't think that someone needs to be a rocket scientist to figure out who was attempting to make that fraudulent charge.
