North Shore Open Space Park was originally established in the 1950s when the city purchased and demolished a series of dilapidated villas on the site. It is one of Miami's largest parks, and it runs from 78th Street to 87th Terrace. Over the years, the 28 acre site was left to nature. In 2017 the city approved a 6 million dollar renovation of the park with Calvin, Giordarno & Associates as the project manager and West 8 heading the re-design. The renovation strived to preserve the parks plants, including large palm trees and sea grapes and the parks natural dune ecosystem which protects the park from rising sea levels. The goal was to improve the beauty and functionality of the park. Today you can enjoy enjoy beach access with lifeguards on duty and plenty of room to spread out as you soak up the sun. North Shore Open Space Park also has a outdoor showers, restroom, dog park, picnic tables and grills, sand volley ball court, three pavilions for picnics with grills which can be rented, swings and a play area, and trails with an outdoor fitness challenge course with self-powered workout stations. Parking can be found in the municipal lot across the street on 83rd street and along Harding Ave. I really enjoyed walking the trails in the the park and it is a lot quieter than nearby South Beach which you can reach via an paved 8 mile bike trail. read more

This is one of my usual beach spots. Though the actual park is on 81st and Collins, to me it's any area north of 71 and Collins. It's a more laid back area of Miami Beach, a little less touristy than south beach. The sand is also closer to the water. I've been to this par of the beach for tanning, for the Full Moon party and for Reiki / Sound Healing / yoga events as well. The waves seem to be a little more potent here than down south. For July 4th, the city also hosts a fireworks display in this area. The neighborhood is commonly known as Little Buenos Aires, so it was the place to be for the World Cup this year. You find a lot of families, sometimes with their portable speakers with a mix of bachata, salsa and other wonderful beats. There are more than a couple of restaurants nearby as well. As is typical with Miami Beach, parking can be an adventure although there is a large city lot on 71 and Collins. read more

15 years Miami and never had I been to this park up until today. And the reason why I ended up here today is I was having breakfast close by and we wanted to find the closest dog friendly beach. Well Google and website says bark beach is here however upon arrival there were signs everywhere of no animals allowed however we saw there was dogs on the beach and went for it too. very beautiful park however i feel its only purpose is people coming here to barbecue as its one after the other. paid street parking only read more

While staying in Miami Beach, we were looking for a place to bbq some steaks, and just down from our hotel was North Shore Park. We decided to walk to the park to check it out before loading everything in the car. Luckily there were sidewalks the entire way because Collins Avenue is VERY heavily travelled no matter what time of day. When we arrived at the park, it was a lot more than I expected! There were beautiful shade trees, a small dog park, a shaded playground and several picnic tables and pavilions. Also the back of the park bumped up to a walking trail along the beach. There were also trails for riding bikes and walking within the park. Regarding the bbq grills, unfortunately at the time, which was in February, they were all sealed up and unavailable due to Covid. Even though our main purpose for going there was a bust, this park was a beautiful, relaxing place that I would love to visit again. read more

The danger with giving this superb park a 5-star review is that too many people will use it . . . . . but isn't that really the point? They just finished a long construction period and the design is awesome with great trees and amenities. This park is usually very well kept up so the staff of this park should be complimented. The park is open! Yes this is the park with the full moon drum circle. The park recently reopened up during the pandemic. Of course the beach is currently closed. The park does have some guidelines during these times. Masks must be worn at all times, 6 foot social distancing, no exercising with park equipment and one way traffic. Park hours are also different 7 AM to 7PM, which should be the same for all parks currently. Bikes are welcomed in parks and trails but only between 9AM and 5PM. The guidelines also limit your time in the park to no more than 2 hours. With all that said it, it's a great park to take a walk in. There's plenty of shade and trails. There's also a little area before the beach that is opened and sandy. It's not the beach but hey you're really close. Definitely worth checking out and getting out of the house. Hopefully soon the beaches open and the drum circles can continue. read more

Dreams are made of sand, sun, and... Well maybe not all dreams but, North Shore Open Space Park will leave you in tranquility. From the vibrant colors of the lifeguards' stations to the hues of blue ocean waters rushing spontaneously against the shoreline on such a hot summer day was spectacular. Parking was a breeze. And the park wasn't crowded during our early morning visit. I'm definitely looking forward to visiting this park/beach again. read more

It was late morning, New Years' Day. We wanted a few hours at the beach, and imagined we'd start at South Beach, and work our way north. Parking was tough to come by. Eight miles north and 45 minutes later, we happened upon NSOSP, with plenty of public parking (metered by app) on the west side of Collins. There were a lot of folks grilling, dog walking, biking, and generally having holiday fun. We ended smack dab in the middle of the park, and had a great time walking the beach. Beautiful park, green grass, dog parks for big and little dogs. Plenty of dog bag stations. Lots of sea grape trees, changing color and losing leaves like fall up north. Fenced off areas for conservation that are full of beautiful cats in all shapes and sizes. These cats are apparently protected and live in the trees and dunes by the beach (I hope the county is keeping tabs on fixing them, because there would be a cat population explosion if every girl had a litter!) people are walking, biking and roller blading on the paved walkways and others are bbq'ing and celebrating under the many pavilions. No trash to be seen anywhere. Clean bathrooms. Dogs are welcome on a leash throughout the park. There's a dog beach from 80-81st streets, Friday through Sunday during specific hours, 130-sunset, but it's not marked so ask the life guard. It was our first time there on a Friday afternoon, and it was great. Clean sand, not crowded. Lots of metered street parking. We'll be back. read more

Depending on the day and time, the experience can vary but it's location is unbeatable so they rank high on my list. It's a huge open area with vast space for get togethers, barbecues, walks, beach days, or simply fun in the outdoors. Plenty of people choose this spot at a meeting point for a day on the beach because its versatility of outdoor enjoyment are suitable for most looking to enjoy the open areas and lushly vegetated greenery that thrives here. There's parking across the street so crossing Collins is sometimes challenging. Patience pays off and the meters are cheap to feed which make it even better. On busier weekends, it does get a crowd so arriving early is definitely one of the most important things to keep in mind when choosing this park as the location for your beach day. read more

I like this park because it's within walking distance from my house, so I'm a bit biased I suppose. I certainly would NOT drive to this park or go out of my way to come here but since it's close I end up here a lot to take the doggies to run. The park itself isn't that bad, there are gazebos for picnics, a winding sidewalk that has trees covering most of it giving it nice shade and I see a lot of bike riders, families, and runners take advantage of that. I would def. NOT come to this park after dark, it seems a little unsafe but during the day it's not bad. There are two dogs parks, one side for small dogs, one for larger dogs. There really is nothing for the dogs to do there except run, so bring some toys for your pups. Also there is no water for the dogs close to the park so bring your own bowl and water, sometimes people leave bowls of water there but I don't trust anything people leave out like that. Once I brought my dogs here and they came home with fleas, although I believe it was the dog that was there they were playing with; because they had come to the park many times before this and been fine. So just be sure they are up to date on their flea meds. before coming here since some people don't take it seriously. read more

This is a lovely oceanfront park right in the heart of the North Beach neighborhood. There are multiple grills at which you can enjoy a group BBQ with a nice breeze. Several covered pavillions are available for rent if you need to secure a space. There are bathrooms, but like all public restrooms, beware their cleanliness. It's also a nice place to take a stroll or bike ride with your pup or family. Look for seasonal bloomings, native birds, and peep the giant, old trees surrounding you. There's a new enclosed dog park which is well kept. The park gets crowded on the weekends, so get there early. Safety at night is not this park's strength; I would steer clear which is why I'm docking a star. If you feel the park is not up to par, contact the City. Those who speak most loudly are the ones heard. Civic involvement demands action, not talk. Bottom Line: Great spot for an oceanfront BBQ in gorgeous Miami Beach! read more

I was introduced to this park/picnic spot/beach spot a few years ago while attending a party. Initially I was a bit skeptical to see it as a place to lay out, read book and quietly reflect on life, because picnic, beach spots are usually crowded, noisy and not the place to be to enjoy quiet time alone. Boy was I wrong! Of course, it has the usual picnic tables, barbecue grills, party noise,... Common to any park, however when you walk past those distractions and walk to the beach, you will be amazed by the openness and the availability of spots to lay out and chill. I've gone quite a few times on different days, at different times and there has always been a place to spread out and have private time enjoying one of Miami's best natural resources: the beach! With regard to parking, there is plenty of metered street parking or in the private lot located across the street from the park. Nice beach / park / picnic area. There are paved paths for jogging (and vehicles with permission like a catering truck). There's trees and benches. There's a whole lot of beach. It's a good, chill place to hang. And it's a good place to have a get-together. There's small covered picnic areas and larger pavilion areas. Some parts are definitely prettier than others. Came on a very busy Sunday once to grill but couldn't find a spot with both a grill and a bench so I posted up at a grill and just sat on the ground on my towel. A not so open space park. I was happy to find that they fenced off an area for dogs. Unfortunately, no dog bags, seating (for the humans), or water for the dogs are provided. You might as well drive over to Haulover. There's an area to walk/jog around, but things start getting a little sketchy when it gets darker. Lots of sketchy folks loitering around at night and unruly teeny boppers with nothing better to do roaming around. The upside is street parking is always available and you don't have to pay a stupid $2 fee just to use the park...ahem...Haulover. read more

If you can put up with the homeless and other shady characters, then this park is for you. The staff keeps running around in their noisy little vehicles or in a full size p/u truck that's out of place. You may say they are killing time. A large cat colony is handfed to give meaning to the term "invasive species." The birds don't sing there anymore. The blue carpet that connects to the south-end of the park is a safety hazard. The view over the beach is awesome. I'd be wary of my belongings on the beach. Oh, be mindful that they close those bathrooms early on weekends leaving hundreds of people with no choice but the bushes. read more

I visit the dog park inside the North Shore park quite often and my dogs never want to leave! there's a side for big dogs and small dogs and usually the people with big dogs end up on the little dog side for some reason.As long as they're not rough or aggressive then it really doesn't matter.Sometimes you'll get some idiots that go in with their dog but don't want any dogs to get near their dog! Hello it's a dog park! I had to tell off some woman before cause she tried to kick my little dog and 2 other dogs cause they were smelling her dog.thats what dogs do at their park! She ended up leaving afterwards.If you're one of those people then just stay home! Anyway,safety is my number one priority when visiting a dog park and as someone that has dogs that love to escape and dig holes under fences,I am super pleased with how secure this place is! They've got extra barriers outside the fence so there's no way any dog can get out! I do wish they had water fountains for the dogs like they do at other parks cause you always see all those poor babies thirsty after playing! I bring a really cool collapsible doggie water bowl and a water bottle with me so that my dogs stay hydrated and usually other dogs end up drinking from it which I really don't mind cause I love all dogs! read more
