I've skied here a ton and biked once but never tried the hiking trails. And they are pretty awesome! Scenic and rugged, with beautiful large aspen groves and deep spruce woods. Many overlooks and clearing with the ski paths help open up the views! It's not well marked but if you keep going uphill, you'll be ok. Fantastic colors right now(10-7-23). Views were pretty with mountains in the distance and being surrounded by trees, and the waterfall was small but pleasant. The lakes were pretty as well, and there were lots of places to sit around it. Good hike! I didn't (know to) go all the way to the last lake, just went to Upper Mohawk Lake which took me 3.5 hours round-trip not including time spent at the top.

The trail is around 9.5 miles long and 2703 feet of elevation gain. It is an out and back trail. It does continue on supposedly to mount logan i believe but from what i read on all trails it does involve some bushwhacking??? We did around 9.3 miles and turned around due to inclement weather coming in. There were some amazing fall colors as you got further in. Beautiful yellows and oranges! There was a beaver dam blocking up some of the water and it was causing one area to be really muddy.... so be prepared for that. Also some of teh crossings after that were a little tricky. the water crossings earlier on had nice logs to cross. Loved this trail and will definitely be back in the future!

When you first exit Georgetown, there are so many signs to guide you to Guanella Pass (also unlike a lot of places, this is free with free parking as well). This is a drive so be kind and share the road. This is also a paved road so driving was quite easy. There are lots of curved spots to park your car if there's a view you are interested in. Drive at your own pace. Take your time and drive slowly because the views are amazing, especially in Autumn. There are lots of lakes so if you see a sign for picnic area, make a stop. Drive up to the top of the summit. It's chilly but the views are wonderful. My little fur baby had a blast.

Along the route are a ton of pull outs and scenic stops which are well occupied and used. There are also some campsites for those wishing to stay longer and check out some of the hiking trails. Absolutely a must see if you're scouting out the fall colors or looking to climb Mount Bierstadt.

Berthoud Pass is a great rest/pit stop if you are going skiing during the winter or backpacking in…read morethe summer. It is also a great trailhead to several wonderful hikes that are dog friendly. My fav is up to Mt Flora peak ( btw you can go on and on as they trail is very long..just saying). Mt Flora is roughly an easy 7 mile back and forth hike with roughly 1800 feet of ascent. You will reach 13,100 of elevation which is great if you are prepping for high altitude backpacking concurrently. Okay bathrooms and good parking.

We started in the late afternoon when there was light outside, and we were able to enjoy the beautiful fall sunset coming back down. There were hardly any other people when we went, especially at the "top" where there were some manmade power buildings or whatever they're called. Gorgeous look over what was probably much more water back then. Safe and easy to find our way to the parking lot, then up and down the trail. Would do this again and bring my huskies next time!

So on paper a 3 mile 600 foot elevation hike sounds mild......but I encountered 1-2 feet of fresh powder trekking up to the ridge. Stunning views and vistas will reward you Not to mention I led us up to a 35 degree slope with a lovely, yet amazingly dangerous cornice of unstable snow. Anyone with ATA knowledge knows this is how to easily die. So be careful in the Winter. Over all this is an amazing place right off of I70. Easy drive from Denver etc. Highly recommened.

The trail was well marked and maintained, and the trailhead has restrooms. As of late June, wildflowers were popping. The trail was quite muddy, but well worth it for the amazing 360 degree views from the top; it was so cool feeling surrounded by mountain ranges on all sides!

My first 14er!! And apparently it's a common gateway hike. Information on the website is clear that…read moreparking can be reserved two weeks in advance, which is what my friend and I did. We stayed overnight at an Airbnb in Breck to make a weekend trip out of the adventure, leaving at 6am to make it to the top of Quandary by early afternoon. There was a volunteer standing at the base of the ascent to warn everyone about clouds coming in. It did get chilly at the end of August and sprinkle quite heavily by the end of our hike. So glad my friend had hiking poles, because I wouldn't have survived without them. The views are beautiful at the top, and we even got to see adorable mountain goats!! Haven't decided whether or not I'll do another 14er, but at least I did one. Definitely consult friends or the internet for advice if this is your first. It's a struggle if you have weak knees like I do, but take your time and start early if you can. Then take a picture with the sign at the top so you can show off on social media afterwards, obviously.
