Stopped in this library on the way home from my moms dentist appointment. Fun fact, I never realized that Niagara County/ Genesse/ Orleans had a seperate library system from Erie County. I always thought they were all linked, you learn something new every day. The library was clean, staff was helpful was greatful they had an express computer station to print something I need to mail out. The library had a curbside pickup; bonus for people not wanting to enter due to COVID19. Bathrooms were clean, and they had books for sale when you walked in. I possess a strong envy to the denizens of Niagara County for having such an amazing library at their disposal. I grew up in a small town library not much bigger than your average Sunday school, so to be hit with such awe at the the vastness of a library- just, golly. I'd shout with excitement, but this is a library we're reviewing after all. There is a section devoted to kids, teens, computers, music, even coupons left by the community for the grabbing. The staff is very helpful, and I've never had a bad experience when visiting. They even sell gently read books in the entry way for dirt cheap! Sure, they ask that you turn off your phone, as to not disturb the peace, but take a chance and escape into the palace of books...or just put the thing on vibrate. read more

This review is a bit of a contradiction since I rate the facilities and services provided as 5 stars, however, I rate the overall work environment as 1 star. Question. When did it become commonplace for patrons and staff alike to speak at a normal or even above-normal level? I was in the library on Wednesday, 21 Ju 23 around 2 PM and I was appalled at the parents that allowed their children to scream and holler and run around the library. Even more appalled that the staff condoned this behavior. All staff members are very sweet and helpful, but to allow this type of behavior is unacceptable. Patrons are conversing in very loud voices, exacerbated by the fact that one expects a minimum of conversation at hushed levels. Perhaps it is a generational thing since I grew up in the NF public library system during the '50s that did not tolerate noise at all. I actually packed up my gear and left because I was unable to concentrate. A pity really since it is a first-rate facility in all other respects except for crowd-control. Too much noise, too little consideration for its patrons, and inadequate and too little crowd-control to keep things quiet. Shhhhhhhhhhh! read more

Some people say libraries are becoming obsolete, but I completely disagree, and I believe if you visit the NT library you may understand what I mean. I've visited most of the local libraries both in NF, Sanborn, Lewiston, Buffalo, Lockport, Grand Island, Batavia, and none, I repeat NONE come close to the NT library. I'm lucky enough that for most of my life, the NT library is the closest anyways, but even as I've moved to different places, this one is a favorite. First of all it is visually pleasing inside. It is always neat and tidy, is clean, updated, and modern. They also decorate for the holidays, and have cool displays showing whats going on. There is also a nice enclosed patio with a waterfall to enjoy during the summer months. Second is selection. Whether you're interested in books, movies, CDs, video games or any other type of media, NT has one of the best selections in the NIOGA system. Should you wish to borrow something from one of the other member libraries, it is only 25 cents, just like at any other, but there is something about having such a big selection in one stop that makes it nice. Third, but certainly not least is the programming. They have things for everyone. I have attended trivia nights, paint nights, Doctor Who events, all sorts of other craft nights, and many other cool events. They have many movie nights, kid nights and really anything you can imagine. The best thing about this library is the events are almost always FREE! Many of the other libraries charge maybe $5 which isn't really a bad deal either, but you can't beat free. They also have winter and summer reading programs, whether you have chances to win great prizes including gift cards just for reading books or attending events. If you're looking for something to do during these cold and dreary months, head over the the NT library, you won't be disappointed. read more

Came here to pick up a few books for grad school in my children's literature class. It has been quite some time since I had been to this library, so I wasn't familiar with where everything was located. I approached the children's librarian, and she was very helpful. She was able to help me find the three books I was looking for. I would suggest this library to anyone in close proximity. You will be ecstatic by the wide selection of books, magazines, and audio books at your disposal. read more

I have been using this library for over thirty years. The staff is very helpful and the selection of books is really good for all age groups including kids. They have wonderful programs to encourage reading for all ages. The DVD section keeps up with the newest films as soon as they are released to be bought. If this branch does not have something, but it is at one of the other NIOGA branches, they will get it delivered to them, and it only costs 25 cents! This place is a great community resource. read more

This library may not be multiple stories like the ones in Niagara Falls or Lockport, but it's nice and has a huge selection of movies and TV shows in particular, somewhat of a moot point since you can have them sent to any library, but a definite bonus if you're in North Tonawanda and want to browse in person. This library has a great selection of DVD's and Blurays. From Classic TV shows to the latest releases they have so many to choose from plus they let you take out 20 at a time. Their magazine collection is quite large as well. They have the Utne Reader which I love. There are reading areas, computers....all the usual library amenities too. The parking lot is large with easy access. It's in the "heart" of the Payne Avenue Plaza area where you can spend a day going from the library to Salvation Army, Pane's Restaurant or the China Wok, all within walking distance. I can spend hours at the library. When you first walk in you pass the used book sale that's always ongoing. Great prices and selection of books, magazines, records and even puzzles. Around the circulation desk past the bathrooms the area opens up with the newest released books on the left, video games on the right with the movie/TV/multimedia selections just beyond. A huge children's area is to the left with a reference librarian station to the right. Computers, newspapers, and tons of book shelves follow. The library sits next to North Tonawanda High School so right after school lets out it can get busy with students but there's plenty of room for all. This is my favorite library but it isn't close to home. I get there as often as possible though. This was my first library when I lived in NT so it holds a place in my heart. read more

Very nice local library with a large selection of books and multimedia materials plus an ample amount of study space. I was in Buffalo taking the New York Bar exam and spent the last three days beforehand studying in 3 separate libaries. Had I visited this library on the first day I would have not needed to visit any others. As I prepared for the exam I was holed up in a dingy little hotel in Kenmore and desparately needed a study space where I could avoid listening to all the terrible sounds coming through the paperthin walls. The North Tonawanda library, as any readers of this review will likely know, is situated in what I found (on an unusually warm Western New York day) to be an idyllic suburb of Buffalo. As I already said, this library had nicer facilities and a better selection than the others I visited and, as to my purposes, was a great study space with both tables and study carrels. The hours are good as compared to other libraries in the area and obviously caters to a discerning crowd of bibliophiles. I would highly recommend this library to any unfamiliar locals and any Floridians wintering for a week or two in Erie County (admittedly a small group). Also, free wifi. For when your heart can't take any more Tim Horton's coffee. read more

My family loves this library ! The staff is very friendly and helpful. The kids' section is well organized , with reading areas, play areas and computers. Many newly released movies and music to choose from. There's always something to do as well ! A Calendar is available each month full of free activities to do. Much to offer in a nice, quiet community. Wonderful place to visit, especially during the summer months when out of school ! read more

This is my favorite library! Even though it is not as large as the Lockport library, it has a huge selection of movies, music and books. They offer a variety of fun, free classes and events for the family and the workers are fantastic. Definitely worth the trip! read more
