Bad experience especially with Dr Hess. Very rude.Very unprofessional Talked over me. I am a senior. She yelled at me and treated me like a child. Was referred by Dr Hess to the dry eye clinic. What a joke! They are all about money and nothing else. Make sure if you go to this clinic you get your credit card ready before you register. They will try to sell you and provide you with all kinds of different treatments and products with a hefty price. They run their office like a factory assembly. Be prepared to wait for hours. Lucky if you find a seat. Honestly, I never been treated like this in all my life. I heard a lot of patients complaining especially seniors. 3.5 stars. I've been here three times. The first time, the sign in the elevator said to go to suite 503 for check-in. When I got to suite 503, the sign said they are closed and directed me to the main suite 400. The sign outside suite 400 said unit 503 is closed. Seriously? Thanks for letting me know, but it's useless since we all see the sign in the elevator which misdirects us before we make our way to suite 400. The receptionists were too busy discussing their personal lives and where to go for coffee to acknowledge me for a long time. Once I was directed to the waiting room, I was called in for a test and was out very quickly. The second visit required a very long wait! Every patient who came in after I did was called in before me. Some people came in 40 minutes after me and did not have to wait at all. Soon after questioning this, my turn came. Dr Gary Yau was knowledgeable and professional. My torn retina was repaired in less than 10 minutes. My third and final visit for a 2-minute follow-up with Dr Yau took about an hour including wait time. I knew he was only going to examine my right eye so I asked if the assistant could skip the pupil dilating drop in my left eye. She reluctantly agreed. As expected my left eye wasn't looked at by the eye surgeon. I wish I had made that request on my second appointment because it took hours for the blurriness to go away in the eye the doctor never looked at. Be prepared for several phone calls confirming your appointment. Even when I responded to the automated call, I received one or two more calls for each appointment. The cost to park is $7 whether you're there for 30 minutes or several hours. The email sent from North Toronto Eye Care says the maximum parking charge is $5. I suppose it hasn't been updated in a while. Traffic along Finch Ave is terrible because of construction on the Finch LRT. I know this isn't the eye clinic's fault but leave plenty of time to navigate around Finch. read more

I was diagnosed with Fuchs Corneal Dystrophy by my optometrist. When I asked the optometrist what options I have, the doctor categorically said "suffer"! I later went to Dr. Farah Moti who treated me with Lotemax Suspension Drops and Fluorometholone drops. I was even treated with some laser procedure without explaining how that would help with Fuchs Corneal Dystrophy. After several visits this doctor prescribed Refresh eye drops to be used when watching TV. I decided to do some research, and this is what was found: 1. Lotemax Suspension Drops (Loteprednol etabonate) * Class: Corticosteroid (anti-inflammatory). * Use: Lotemax is primarily used to reduce inflammation. In the context of Fuchs Corneal Dystrophy, it may be prescribed if there is associated inflammation, but it's not the first-line treatment for the dystrophy itself. * Potential role in Fuchs Corneal Dystrophy: Though corticosteroids like Lotemax are not typically used to treat the corneal swelling caused by Fuchs, they may be used to manage any concurrent inflammation or eye irritation. I'm actually pissed to even have to deal with this. Supposedly I was to have my appointment on March 19th. We walked in and told the secretary, however instead of politely telling me it was cancelled and rescheduled, she gave me a bitchy attitude like it didn't matter to her why it was rescheduled. There were other ways to contact me if the company could not contact me through calls, like a rescheduled reminder through text and on the first day, they could've asked for an email had I known they could email information. The secretary made it seem like it was my fault and that it was my responsibility that they called the wrong person and rescheduled without notifying me. I missed work because I thought I had an appointment and was NEVER given notice. For all I know, one of the secretaries called and because I couldn't answer, probably wrote it off and rescheduled it on her own. Went to this clinic several times a few years ago the Dr Yoganathan was always kind and professional but has since left. Asked for a referral from my optometrist because I'm seeing blobs of white in my peripheral vision. I had to go for testing on the first day. The assistant was going over my history and became very condescending about why I'm just coming back when I was supposed to be following up every few months. The Dr I saw for my high eye pressure told me my pressure has gone down and I stop using the drops since it was a regular number. Also I called a few years back I was told by the receptionist that I didn't need follow ups with Dr Chiu and the other Dr had moved to the states. While explaining this to the assistant on testing day, she was basically rolling her eyes and implying I'm lying. If I'm the one whose eyes are at risk why would I be the one lying about what her staff told me? This shows that I was told wrong information by the receptionist. Which she did not try to help get to the actual facts of whether I needed the drops or not and getting a prescription or scheduling follow up. Scheduling and rescheduling with the receptionist was fine this time around, I've never had any real issues with reception besides the misinformation. The next appointment I went to see the actual Dr Yao and he was not interested in my vision problems which prompted the referral in the first place. He did a quick eye exam looking into my eye with a light. During the time he looked in my eye he was pressing very hard and my eyes were watering and it was very uncomfortable as it became unbearable. I would have to plead for him to stop to give me a break before he continued. Not everyone is the same and pain thresholds are different. He did warn me before he began that it would be very uncomfortable but could have had more compassion when he realized I was being mildly traumatized by the feeling. After this He told me my eyes look healthy, which although comforting is a statement I have never heard about my eyes ever so most likely not true. While I was trying to get answers about why I'm seeing these blobs periodically he said he sees nothing in the tests and doesn't know so basically it's not obvious and he's not willing to take my concern seriously. He continually misunderstood what I was saying by repeatedly words I did not say and did not show any interest in actual helping me figure it out. Now this blob of light is taking up a wider space around my eyes and I am fearful nothing will be done until it is too late. I don't know what the values are at this place but it's clearly not to treat the patients with respect. Yet they have signs saying if you become disrespectful they will make you leave. I've heard the way some of them yell at the elderly and speak to them like they're toddlers. So basically they can treat you as horrible as they want and if you get upset about it you will have to leave. My past procedures for retinal holes and was great and the Doctors were fine, I'm confident the staff here do have the skills to do the job properly, that's why I had gone back. This latest experience was ridiculous and I cannot trust that they have my best interest in mind. It's almost as if they use their biases to pick and choose how they treat particular people and are not reprimanded for mistreating the ones they don't care about. I give 2 stars instead of 1 only because I think they are competent in their job only thing is it's a gamble whether they value you enough to give you proper treatment or not. If this is how they treat people to their faces what types of covert things are they doing that may be easily swept under the rug. read more

The fact that you have to take a half-day off work every time you have an appointment tells me that my time is not important. This review is for Dr. Hess and regarding the operational excellence at this clinic- I rarely leave reviews; however, this is one that I cannot let go of. Dr. Hess's staff (Becca) is rude and condescending. We see this Dr. at North Toronto Eyecare. The clinic is very busy, but this Dr. holds her own appointments as she recently came back early from maternity leave and only works part-time and holds limited number of surgery dates within the month. That being said, if her availability is limited, the clinic should have another part-time or full-time Dr. on staff who can perform these type of procedures or refer to other clinics instead. They cancelled my dad's appointment because I didn't pick up the phone when they called even though the appointment was booked 2 weeks prior. When we showed up at the clinic, they said they cancelled it since I never called back to confirm. The procedure is literally 2 seconds, but they sent us back and said to reschedule the appointment. After speaking to the Clinic Manager, I found out it was Dr. Hess's call to send us back because she didn't want to see my dad that day. I don't feel comfortable knowing that this Dr. shows favoritism towards her patients. We have been nothing but respectful towards her and her staff even after the horrendous experiences we have had with them. Being impartial and unbiased towards people is important in any profession, especially in medicine. Particularly if you are performing an eye surgery you want to make sure your patient feels comfortable and knows you care about them just like any other patient. She is the only Dr. at this clinic for the type of surgery my dad requires or else I WOULD NEVER see her or deal with her staff. When my dad asked for her opinion about redoing the procedure, she said it's his choice- reason why I rated helpfulness and knowledge as 1 & 2. I had some dry eye tests done and was told I'd actually see a doctor in about 3 weeks . I show up to the appointment and hand my health card to the receptionist . She looks at the girl next her and mumbles " oh no , another one" They had cancelled my appointment and not notified me . Now that would be bad enough but then they look at my file and it says " customer was notified" Umm... if I was notified why would I be here today? The kind lady then says " are you calling us liars?" What a bunch of uncaring individuals . Nothing worse than a person who can't admit they are wrong and own up to it. In the end I just said you can't argue with stupid. A lady in the waiting room then approaches me and says I'm the third one this morning in the short time she's been sitting there. Worst place EVER! My father and I have been here about 3-4 times and would not recommend this place to ANYONE. The reception staff is condescending and rude. The ophthalmologist we saw was unhelpful and rushed through the appointment, refusing to answer some of our questions because she was late to see the next patient. They also kept calling us back for pointless appointments and strange "referrals" that my family doctor never made. Since Day one if I remember it was in Jane Street with Dr. Weisberg following cataract surgeries he has always been very helpful and kind and didn't spare time to go into lengthy explanation about my condition. I would say he is the most knowledgeable person in his field. As an old person I do various check ups for my various conditions. Usually it's flat and just prescriptions and no explanation. But Dr. Der is unique in that sense that he makes your days. It's always a very great pleasure to see him again and again..I feel emotional..Sorry about that. Please forward to him my feed back. I have had two ephemeral phone appointments sessions with this ophthalmologist during the pandemic for my conjunctival conditions in both eyes. I felt the sessions were rushed without a chance for me to ask questions such as my eye conditions and medication she prescribed me. I DID NOT know the name of the drug she was to prescribe me nor how to use it properly from my first session with her. I ended up asking again via email correspondence to the clinic. She is not reachable. Every question needs to go through the admin staff, Becca, via email correspondences. I have noticed a careless mistake made when either Dr. Hess / Becca ( I am not clear in who did what !)confirmed wrong eyedrop medication information with me via emails. I ended up using the wrong eyedrop for a few days . Can you imagine how frustrating and helpless I felt when I did not receive the help I needed from them!? When I made her aware of the mistake during our second phone discussion, she became very defensive ,impatient, and condescending with me over phone. I certainly do not appreciate the bedside manner at all. I do not feel the medication nor the consultation have helped to resolve my eye conditions/ concerns. About the admin staff at the clinic, my appointments were changed multiple times at last minute notice. It was very inconvenient to adjust my schedule again and again for the appointment changes. Dr. Hess called me at my cell number when she was asked specifically to call me at my home number ahead of time. TERRIBLE service!!! MONEY hungry and you are treated like cattle... Moving you along suggesting this and that, not answering questions and calling you later to tell you that you owe money for tests that were done without first disclosing the costs or obtaining consent for the fees. My father is a senior who is Diabetic and has Parkinson's disease and he was treated horribly!!!! His anxiety is through the roof and he has not even had the Cataract removal surgery as of yet. Sadly we cannot cancel the scheduled procedure otherwise we will be billed for cancellation $500. I have now been sitting on hold with North Toronto Eye Care for 20 minutes and 23 seconds trying to get some answers to questions we have and someone keeps picking up every 5 minutes saying "please hold" and placing me back on hold before I can even say OK !!!!!! I agree with Kim N. This clinic is operated with only one thing in mind, profits. They over book their clinic everyday and make us patients wait 2-3 hours for an appointment. They owner of the clinic, who is an opthalmologist, rushes you through the appointment and doesn't take the time to explain to you the tests that are being done and why he wants to do specific operations on your eyes which cost a lot of money. Before I booked an operation with North Toronto Eye Care I thought I would get a second opinion from another opthalmologist. The opthalmologist I went to at a different clinic took the time to explain everything to me and told me that the operation the North Toronto Eye Care doctor wants me to pay for, puts my eyes at greater risk, and that I first have to have an operation which is covered by the government first before I go on with the major operation. I was furious when I found out about this and asked North Toronto Eye Care why I was not informed about the government-covered operation and the manager I spoke with told me that government-covered operations are not one of their priorities. I read between the lines and understood that just because the government-covered operations do not provide the clinic with much profit, they prefer not to recommend them to patients. If you care about your eyes, please do not go to this clinic, they only want your money. read more

While they do have some highly skilled doctors, they are so over booked that they can't handle the volume of patients. I was there at 8:00 am for my appointment and couldn't even get a seat in the waiting area, I counted over 50 people waiting. Two hours later I was still waiting! How can you get get that far behind in such a short time frame? By overbooking and inefficient processing of patients. When I asked when I would be seen by the Dr. I was told there are still a number of people ahead of me and that I was seeing a "specialist"!!! I know I'm seeing a specialist...that's why the receptionists all think they are little Diva's that have no regard for a persons time. If this were anything other than a medical facility people would walk out in disgust, but because most patients are there because they are in need of proper help they put up with this crap. If you do have to go there, bring a book and pack a lunch. BTW gum chewing not allowed in this facility! Are we in grade school??? Get lost. read more

I do not normally write reviews but this particular service urged me to share my experience. My mother in law had an appointment with Dr. Rabinovitch last week which took 4 hours. This is the typical length of time since she has been their patient for over ten years. The office is very disorganized and always appears over booked. Their intercom sounds muffled so you are never sure if your name is called or which room to proceed to. Taking my mother in law here is absolutely dreadful but she does not speak English therefore that leaves either my husband or myself to bring her. What urged me to write a review was one very positive aspect of last week's visit. There is this small Chinese/Asian girl who was doing a test for my mother in law. This is a test she hates and to my understanding does not do well in. The test she had to do was press a button when she sees flashing lights. This staff explained the test and was very polite. Usually when we come here the one doing this test for her is very rude, loud, and appears to be very upset. This Asian girl explained the test and to my surprise she spoke in fluent Urdu. My mother in law also liked her very much because she was kind and gentle and did not need a translator. I wish all your employees were more like this. read more
