I had my surgery more than 20 years ago at the office in Toronto (Custom Lasik). Had terrible eye sight -8.75 before the surgery, couldn't even read the numbers on the alarm clock beside my bed. I had a minor touch up as expected (due to how poor my eyesight was) a year later in the Denver office because I had moved to Colorado ( Covered by the company). I am 50 years old now and can still do almost everything without the use of glasses, on a rainy dark night I put some glasses on just to help me read road signs. I had a fantastic experience at TLC Laser Eye Centers. My optometrist at Hakim Optical referred me to them, and I got a discount from that too. They were very clear on everything they were doing test wise, and answered all my questions. The day of the surgery I was SUPER anxious and they gave me Ativan and went through everything. It took about 2 hours of being there, but the procedure took under 20 minutes. It was completely painless and all it felt like was someone pressing down your eyeball. They gave me stress balls in my hands to help distract myself from the anxiety too. I could see clearly instantly after the flaps were back in place. No screens for 24-48 hours after, and my eyes were a bit sensitive to the tv. I definitely had some large halo's (it's only day 3 for me right now) but I knew that would be a (hopefully temporary) side effect. I had very little burning for about 5 minutes, 30 minutes after the procedure, but no itchiness or scratchiness. I notice a bit of dryness but I feel that is normal right now. I would highly recommend Dr. Rootman and TLC Laser Eye Centers. They were super helpful, kind, and seemed very professional. Worth the drive and the money. My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner!!!! **Understand the expectations of how long you cannot wear contacts prior to tests so you save yourself an extra trip to the location! From the first consultation to the last post Op appointment with TLC, they have been nothing but professional and caring. The nurses were there every step of the way from Consult/Pre Op/and day of Operation. Dr. Mohammed the in house Optometrist was fantastic in answering all my questions from concerns to risk. And my surgeon Dr. Nick Nianiaris was professional and thorough throughout the whole operation. I would strongly recommend this Centre for LASIK, the procedure itself was painless and lasted less than 10min per eye. No pain during surgery as they froze the eyes with drops. And you're relax throughout with the relaxation medication they give you prior. I was in and out within the hour and felt no pain whatsoever. The build up is more nerving than anything. About 1h to 2h after surgery you experience teary eyes, (like cutting an onion type feeling) but that's normal and that's the only discomfort that I felt. I am free from glasses and contacts and it feels fantastic. Susan the administration assistant never pressured me on getting the procedure done, walked me step by step in payment options and made me feel comfortable in giving me time to think about my important investment. Terrible experience during the initial consultation; decided to go elsewhere for the surgery. Completely unprofessional with no regard for patient privacy. I had scheduled the initial consultation a week or two in advance, and then received a call the day before, only to be told that the appointment was no longer available with no explanation given (double booking, I presume). Mistakes happen, so I adjusted my schedule to accommodate a different time. I arrived on time and had to wait over 30 minutes. When I was taken in for the pre-assessment, I was asked to provide my medical history as the technician operated the various pre-assessment instruments. As this is happening, another technician bursts into the room with another patient, begins using the machine right next to me, with absolutely no regard for patient privacy. I was shoulder to shoulder with a complete stranger as I'm being asked about my medical history! Not even a polite "Excuse me, we need to use this machine". Didn't even knock -- just opened the door and walked right in. We then move to another room to continue the assessment, which includes an eye exam. The monitor displaying the letters faults/restarts on three separate occasions, meaning the test had to be restarted each time. I was then told my prescription had changed, even though it has been stable for 5+ years, and I had an eye exam with my optometrist the week prior (with no change in Rx). The technician then tells me the discrepancy doesn't matter, while still questioning my actual prescription. She then attempted to take a measurement of eye pressure, and that instrument also failed. I had to wait around for her to locate a new instrument, calibrate it, and then take the measurement. I met with an actual doctor afterwards who seemed completely uninterested, and even combative when I inquired about risks, vision guarantee, etc. The responses were flaky at best -- they have a vision correction guarantee, but won't guarantee 20/20, and won't specify the minimum vision required for post-surgery correction. They seemed completely uninterested in actually addressing my questions. At that point, I ended the consultation. I'm not the type to make a fuss, but this was one of the most unprofessional offices I've ever had the displeasure of visiting. I got the impression this centre is a revolving door, where patients are treated as an afterthought. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. read more

Im so glad I heard about TLC on the radio because I was thinking about laser eye surgery for the longest time and until i heard this ad i told myself i am just going to book a free consultation and see how it goes. Now i am 6 days post surgery! From the first step to the last, each staff member made me feel so comfortable and they are all so knowledgeable and friendly. Such a great well rounded team! The patient counsellor gave me one simple price including lifetime warranty during my consultation, which was the biggest sell for me. Simplicity, and knowing I will be covered for life. TLC's office included rooms for consultation as well as the surgery. So, during my consultation I was briefly shown the room where the surgery would be taking place and I even had a chance to speak to someone who just completed the procedure. It made the whole experience feel real. I felt nervous before my surgery so a staff member gave me an advent pill to relax me. The procedure was super quick and painless. It was exactly what everyone has been telling me! I was out of there shortly after - it was really nothing to be nervous about! I've been taking my eyedrops on time daily, and scheduled follow up appointments with my optometrist. No swelling, no redness, no pain. Lucky me, i didn't touch my painkillers. I did my procedure on a Thursday and went back to work on Monday. My vision is still blurry right now and will recover over the next 4 weeks. i should also mention that I went with PRK instead of Lasik, because my cornea was on the thinner side, and with Lasik, my cornea will be even thinner so I didn't want to risk that. PRK procedure is done on the surface of the cornea and recommended for people with thinner corneas. The healing and eye drop schedule differ from Lasik. They said with PRK, it will take me longer to recover and I will have to continue my eyedrops for 2 months, as opposed to Lasik which is about 2 weeks I think? And they were also unsure if I could even make it to work the following Monday, but with Lasik I will definitely make it. (P.S. I did make it) Overall, my experience at TLC was wonderful from the first consultation until now and I would recommend this clinic to anybody! read more

I'm 34 years old and I'm glasses/contacts free, thanks to the TLC Team at Yonge and Eglinton. My vision is better than 20/20. In September 2017, I had PRK laser eye correction with Dr. Rootman. My corneas were too thin to have LASIK. The procedure was a piece of cake and pain free. They put a ton of eye drops to numb your eyes, so no need to worry there. The worst part for me, was the smelling of the eyes burning from the laser and trying not to move - using the stress balls certainly helped. I took an entire week off of work to recover, followed the eye drop schedule, slept with the eye covers and wore my sunglasses as much as possible. I encountered no issues whatsoever. To the whole team at TLC, from Zelda, Dr. Rootman, Dr. Mohammed, etc. all I can say is thank you, you've changed my life. This is the best investment I have ever made. I've referred several patients to TLC, all procedures were a success as well. I do have to say that my eyes feel totally different now; they're more sensitive. Definitely worth it though. If you're considering this, don't wait. Just Do it! I wish I did it 10 years ago. read more

However, it is impossible to reach the office and I am getting the run around by multiple agents from their central call centre and no one can connect me locally to schedule my actual surgery. Extremely rude customer service. After canceling a pre-booked appointment last-minute and harassing me with multiple voicemails to reschedule one, I spoke with a lady called Sheila today, who hung up on me after I expressed that I have consultations scheduled with multiple companies. If they are not able to coordinate a simple appointment how can I trust them with a complicated procedure? Also, they mentioned that they charge $5,200 for Lasik surgery on two eyes, regardless of your prescription... seems unreasonable as different prescriptions require a different level of service. read more

I would strongly discourage anyone from using this company for any LASIK type surgery. I had mine at their now closed Yonge north location 14 yrs ago. Approx 4yrs later I developed a cataract in one eye, then a yr later in the other eye. Fast fwd a few years, retinal detach left eye, now present day retinal detach right eye. I am currently only 41yrs old. No family history of any of these eye complications. Ive done some research on the correlation between LASIK and Cataracts and Retinal detach.. There is a study quoted here : http://www.lasikcomplications.com/inducedcataract.htm Which shows that LASIK patients were developing cataracts approx 7yrs earlier than non LASIK. LASIK requires your eye to be put under high pressure - oddly this is potentially DAMAGING. I had the lasik procedure done 2 years ago. It was fantastic! I compared all the companies in the GTA and had difficulty choosing one but the price was the best from TLC and it was one of the 2 that were recommended by my optometrist. The staff were excellent and calmed my fears, explained the whole process. The surgery itself was short, the wait time not too long. It was a bit scary being able to see and smell the surgery but the staff were supportive. I had no issues afterwards, eyes were a bit dry the first winter, but the winters afterwards, no dry eyes. I am so happy I had the surgery with TLC! Highly recommend. read more
