From the consult all the way up to my procedure date two months later everything was explained to me thoroughly. I got to speak with the surgeon multiple times and they answered all my questions. They have really great refractive consultants that you correspond with and who are there to answer qs about pricing, dr note etc. The only reason I docked one star was because the wait times during the consult and my eye measurement day were very long. I had to wait an hour each time before seeing the surgeon.

At no point did I feel nervous because they carefully explained everything. The measuring devices they use are state of the art and beyond inaccuracy that is needed. I know this as a fact because I am a product designer and have helped develop medical devices in my career as an industrial designer. I for over 60 years I have suffered with extreme myopia and had I known about how effect refractive replacement lens were, I would have done this sooner. I have never had 20/20 vision before. The best I have had with glasses is 20/35 and even then it would fluctuate to 20/40. All the staff were cheery, professional and genuinely happy. I would recommend the Herzig Eye Institute to anyone who wants perfect vision whether or not you have cataracts or poor vision. Glasses and contact lenses cannot do this to the extent I have seen. The operation was painless and I never once used Tylenol or Advil.

I got a referral from my Doctor which they said they didn't receive, yet my Dr.'s office sent another referral for another Doctor the same day and interesting how that office seemed to get to that referral fax. I finally got through to the office after 7 tries and I was told that the referral might be on his desk for approval to see if he'll take my case. I've been having intermittent eye pain. The referral was sent on Apr. 14th and it is now Apr. 26th. When the person from his office said that I'd have to wait to see if he would take my case, I said to her that this guy must be way too arrogant and I let them know that there are a number of ophthalmologists in this city that would actually care about getting a new patient. I would bet that if I said I wanted elective surgery for intraocular lenses....I would be contacted STAT! BTW, I am also considering that surgery. Dr. Weisbrod can keep that silver spoon in his mouth. I'm moving on!

The clinic locks the door and the staff lets patients in or out. The older lady sat down on a chair to wait for the door to be opened. The woman who works there (could be a nurse since she was wearing scrubs) chastised her to another patient in the waiting room. The nurse said to other patient in the something along the lines of 'omg, I can't believe she sat on the chair, I told her not to! people just don't listen.' It seems like the issue was that the nurse would have to disinfect the chair again. To me it didn't seem like it warranted that type of an exchange with another patient right in front of the one that's waiting to leave. If the nurse had unlocked the door sooner than the older lady would've left and never felt the need to sit on the chair. I could see that the clinic was very busy and everyone was working nonstop but having a bit of empathy will go a long way.

FInding a family doctor is hard, so when I moved downtown 10 years ago, I discovered that I couldn't find a family doctor, but I could be assigned to a Nurse Practitioner at WCH Family Practice. For those reluctant to opt for a Nurse Practitioner, I can tell you from my experience, it is better than a family doctor. Anything they can handle on their own is done quickly because you can see them sooner than the overbooked doctors, and when there is something they can't handle, it is referred to a doctor in the clinic or a specialist, so it is the best of both worlds. My Nurse practitioner retired last year and I ended up becoming a patient of one of the doctors in the clinic, and while she is a great doctor, WCH is a teaching hospital, so she is only in the clinic twice a week, so appointments are hard to get. However, WCH family practice offers urgent care appointments in the evenings, so if a doctor can't see you that day, you can see one in the evening, instead of going to a walk in clinic or emergency. The clinic is very accessible, something I appreciated after my knee surgery.
