I recently moved to Wake Forest from Miami. Dr. Amy Fischlein's demeanor was absolutely the most passive aggressive and apathetical encounter I've ever had with a "professional". I took both of my senior dogs in for routine rabies vaccines, flea/heartworm prevention, and exams. Most importantly, I simply wanted her opinion on what my 15 year old dog's neurological issues could be, and after she recommended hip pain meds, I told her it seemed neurological (head pressing, loss of coordination, etc). She said my previous vet hasn't provided records, only invoices, which is interesting because I never received communication from her office this was the case. Did she want me to follow up with them, did her office ask? She looked at me and said "well it seems to prednisone worked with your last vet". I then tried several times articulating that I was interested in the underlying problem, and she had zero interest. Absolutely rude, passive aggressive, and clearly let me know she had zero interest. Even after a $732.00 bill zero interest. I had her take a look at the sore on his paw and she simply said "only option is to remove or try to get enough cells" which is exactly the way ahead, but then she didn't give a recommendation or address the concerns with either option. Max is my best friend, and I'm trying desperately to find help for him. read more

I rarely give 5* to anyone. Every point of contact was above 5*, from text conversations, all front desk and medical staff, answering my call fast. gentleness, care for my cat's health. I am so impressed, I'm leaving this review on multiple sites. About the actual visit: They were gentle and kind to him beyond belief. I had no wait time so, they manage their office well. Last year, he would not let them draw blood. They didn't force it, not traumatizing him. Great! Previsit: I rcv'd a reminder that Kitty's annual checkup was due, but I couldn't make the appt due to unexpected $ issues. I informed them of the reason via text reply, not wanting them to think I was derelict re his health. They replied back, expressing concern for my situation. As 4 mo's go by, they sent a few more reminders. I kept him in the loop, and appreciated their gentle reminders so I kept it as a priority. We communicated this way more than a few times. When I was finally able to afford it, we communicated via text about pre-visit medicine that would make him calm for a blood draw. They had it ready for me at the desk to pu. He has not taken oral meds easily before but this was super easy! It was like he didn't even detect it. They were capsules that I broke open and mixed in a squeezy. I was able to groom him in places he doesn't normally allow, awesome! The medicine just made him chill. Not sleepy or sluggish. He didn't behave any different than normal. I have been taking my pets to NWAH for over 15 years and never had an issue until today. I took one of my 2 my German shepherds (Bear, aka Sweet Boy) in for his Bordetella and was reminded that his vaccines were due at the end of October. I decided to get it all done today. Everything as usual went fine until Dr Amy Fischlein went to draw blood from his left front leg. She had difficulty getting the blood sample and proceeded to jab him multiple times again to no avail. She tried in his neck a few times with no results, and again back to now his right leg now. During this process, she must have jabbed him 8-12 times and I politely asked her, "how many times are you going to jab him? and she snapped at me stating, "As many times as it takes". Annoyed by her response, I kept quiet until exam was completed. As I was let out the side door I told the assistant I didn't like her (Dr. Fischlein). I put Bear in my truck and went back in to pay bill. As I was paying the bill I told Becky (nice lady) that I didn't like the Dr and felt she was rude and unprofessional. Just then Dr Fischlein came storming around the corner and verbally assaulted me, stating if you don't trust me, then find another vet and we will send the records to them just let us know. We debated over her jabbing Bear many times and her (poor) attitude was on full display. Basically, telling me it's difficult to find the vein and if I didn't like it find another Vet and we don't want your business. Maybe she was just having a bad day but to treat a loyal customer like she did, was not only rude but very unprofessional. Becky, on the other hand defended her, but I understand she had to. Dr Fischlein appears to be a disgruntled human that should not be taking care of fish in the freezer, yet only other live pets. I hope and pray she gets the help she desperatly needs. North Wake is not typically where I take my dog, but I had an emergency situation and my dog needed immediate care and they were the closest. The lady at the front desk was very concerned and helpful during my stressful situation. When I came in, they took her straight back and went to work on her. Took my animals here for 3 years and at first, decent experience. Nothing spectacular but nothing bad either until the last several months. They will nickel and dime you for EVERYTHING! They have a part time vet that works Saturdays that is fantastic and the lady named Becky that works up front is really nice too. That's about the only thing positive I can say about them. I recently had a girl that answered the phone who was horrible - and that just did it for me after everything else I have dealt with over there so I moved all my animals elsewhere. Have to update my review now that Dr. Darch and his team are all gone. sniff sniff. Had my first experience with the new team, and I honestly don't know what to think yet. Front of the house gals were very nice. It's very clean. My cat and I waited about 45 minutes with only two others in the waiting room before us. Brief encounters with Doctor Friend (yes, that's the name he's wearing) seemed okay...brisk, quick. If you have questions, ask fast! All-in-all it felt like a work in-progress...like they're still in the training stages of staff and getting organized. I was told they are owned by a company out of Connecticut. Park Vet, I think was the name. Price-wise, the shot my cat got was less expensive than I've paid for it before, but the oral meds that I bought for her were higher. So far, at least, I did not walk away with the warm fuzzy feeling that I've gotten there over and over with the past regime. But to be fair, we all know change is hard, and we'll just see how this one goes. read more

I am a walking billboard for this vet!!! Let me tell you why.... My family has always had pets. They are like siblings, children, a substantial part of our family. We have also had our fair share of vet experiences, some good, some bad, some great, and some awful. After our family lost our pet a few years back due to negligence of a vet, we decided to do our research of who we would use for our pets in the future. After moving to Wake Forest, I began asking all around about vets. I continued to hear the same thing.... "We use Dr. Darch. He may not be the warm and cuddly type but he treats our pets well and doesn't charge an arm and a leg". I actually had someone tell me, "he is wonderful but he got snippy with me for my dog being overweight". Really? Why shouldn't he? I took my furry child to him for his yearly visit and found Dr. Darch to be wonderful. He engaged so well with my little Prince and gave advice as to what I needed to do to be sure my little pup didn't get too overweight, ways to keep his teeth clean, etc. When I went to pay, I was SHOCKED- LITERALLY SHOCKED!!! The price had to be wrong, right? It was almost what my office visit was at other visits. I then added the Frontline and Heartworm pill (6 months supply) because at this price, why not get my 6 month's supply now? They do not upsell the heartworm pills nor Frontline and is cheaper than the online ordering of these products. After this visit, we began taking our cats and other dog to him. Since that first visit, we have lost our beloved kitty and when he was sick, Dr. Darch did what he could to make him comfortable and sent us home, preparing us for the pending end to his life. When our baby became near the end, it was at night, around 9pm. We called Dr. Darch and he met us at the vet office within 10 minutes after the call to confirm that he had indeed passed away. He could not have been more understanding, wonderful, and comforting to us. He took care of the cremation and was gentle and warm with us as we said our goodbyes. I just took one of our dogs this past week to him for a stomach bug, rash on her belly, limping one one of her back legs, and nail trim. He treated all of those issues, and xrayed her legs to diagnose the problem and I left paying less than I would have for an xray at other vet offices. My pup felt better and so did my purse. :) Dr. Darch is alo excellent at not upselling. He will be the first to tell you not to waste your money on certain treatments if your pet does not need it. Who else does that? NO ONE! If you want a great vet with experience, knowledge, and a true care for your pet, and save money with your vet bills, Dr. Darch is your man! If you want someone who will hold your hand and give you hugs, upsell you on things you do not need, and charge you out the wazoo, go elsewhere. read more

Such an amazing experience. My dog was hurt bad as her nail split past the quick. They sedated her and removed it with little to no pain to her. I was there to cuddle her and comfort her the whole time. The staff here is absolutely amazing. It was such short notice getting me in and they couldn't have made me and Sadie feel more comfortable and welcome. I took my dog here because they had evening hours. I had taken him to another vet when he had lameness and skin issues. That vet had said that the lameness was most likely due to allergies. However, even though we had treated the acute symptoms of the allergies, the lameness was getting worse. I specifically made the appointment because I wanted the vet to look at his foot. When the vet came in, he only focused on his skin and barely even looked at his foot. He said that he thought because of the pattern of the hair loss, it could be lupus -- something he had only seen once in vet school. He gave him a steroid shot and more antibiotics. As we were walking out of the office, he FINALLY noticed that my dog was holding his paw very high and was not putting ANY weight on in and said "wow, he really is favoring that paw". I half expected him to say "you should really have that looked at!" I was shaking my head and felt like saying "duh -- that's why we came to see you!". His plan was to schedule a follow-up to anesthetize my dog and do a biopsy for Lupus. Again, made no more mention of his foot or lameness. I never bothered to take him back. When he couldn't even be bothered to look at his paw or listen to my questions about the causes of lameness. Instead he was focused on the possibility of a very rare condition in dogs. In Med School and Vet School there is a saying "when you hear hoof beats, assume horses, not zebras." This vet was definitely more focused on zebras rather than the ultimate cause of my dog's lameness -- a toenail tumor. I would say if you need to have a routine wellness visit and need to do it outside of routine work hours, this may be the place for you. However, if you have something more complicated, I would take the time off from work and go elsewhere. read more

Well after 15 years going to North Wake Animal Hospital, I finally switched vets. After Dr. Darch and Dr. Church sold the practice, it has not been the same. It's too cold (not in temperature) now. I went back a few months later with the same cat that ended up having a blocked bladder. They admitted my kitty, fixed him up and he was home with us the next day and it didn't cost us an arm and a leg. They really take the fear out of pet ownership with their affordable services. We have been taking our dog Bailey to NWAH since we got her when she was 3 months old. I have never been disappointed with the service we have received, as my dog is an adventurerer and has had some monor injuries we needed to address. Bailey has had a cornea tear, a fractured toe, bronchitis, a torn wart that needed removed, and gets all of her shots and physicals there. Every visit has been quick but thorough, and I love that about Dr. Dartch and his vets. There is no pussyfooting around, which is good since a vet visit for Bailey is probably her least favorite thing to do! Lastly, the prices are unbeatable. I know alot of dog owners who pay double at other vets for what NWAH charges. As Tammy R. pointed out in her review, this isn't a fancy vet office, but their knowledge of animals is all that is needed when caring for my dog. My dog had ACL surgery at North Wake Animal Hospital. They said surgery went great but about 2 weeks after surgery the dog started having seizures although he had never had seizures before. Seizures got closer together over the next few months until he had no quality of life and he had to be euthanized. I learned later that it may have been due to improperly administered anesthesia during surgery. I would never take another pet to North Wake Med Animal Hospital. read more

My cat got into a scuffle and came home with bite marks on his hind leg. I was worried about infection so I took him in to NWAH since they are close to my house. I'm new to this area and didn't have an established vet. I do now! It's a Monday and I arrived at 11:30 (they told me come right in!) and I was seen within minutes. Dr. Friend was very nice, business like and spent a decent amount of time with me and my cat. I wish he had asked more questions, but he assed my cat, gave him an antibiotic shot, gave me take home meds for the cat and sent us on our way. I was in and out in less than an hour. The place is very dated inside, but clean and the people are helpful and friendly. Give them a try next time you need a vet. We'll be going back if the need arrises. read more

I went here with a Groupon to check it out and see if I would like it or not. Here is my review. It was clean on the inside and did not smell, to me, like your typical animal hospital. The lady I talked to on the phone when I scheduled was very nice. The office looked like you typical animal hospital on the inside. The room we were taken into was very cleaning and my initial, triage nurse/technician was very nice. The doctor came in a few minutes later with a different technician to do the check up. I did not really like that but they probably have some system. It was a very quick exam. I would say at a satisfactory level. My cat had been having a runny nose and sneezing for a little bit and I wanted her checked out and if possible her yearly vaccines. The doctor stated she was just suffering from stress and that she felt she was fine to have her vaccines. And honestly the previous sentence is about all there was to our conversation. Not a bad place to go but when it comes to a member of the family I want to feel like I am taking her to see family. If it is for another quick vaccine visit I'd probably go again but if there is something going on, I think I will venture to another office. Hope this helps! read more

I have to say I am not sure about taking my dogs back to North Wake Animal Hospital. I once LOVED this vet! It was the only vet in the Raleigh area I trusted and had a reasonable price. Recently they have been rude and not accommodating to me and my 14 year old sick dog. Once there was time you were greeted with a friendly staff and did not have a long wait. The day after Christmas they wouldn't even get past their bad attitudes to realize I had a very sick dog on my hands and told me it was gonna be over 2 hours. Huh? I think Dr. Darch and Dr. Church made sure there was never that long of a wait. I finally have found Dr. Church who was my favorite Vet there. Just do a search for him and I am sure you will find him too:) read more

This is the only place to take your pets in Wake Forest. Dr Darch is wonderful. He explains everything really well and takes the time to answer all of your questions. They don't take appointments but they are super fast. Even on a busy Saturday the longest it has taken for the whole appointment was about 40 minutes. I agree with all of the other posters. Prices are very reasonable. I would highly recommend North Wake to anyone with pets. read more

They are the BEST!!! My cat had a health issue and I wasn't really sure where to take him since Dr. Darch had left. I thought I would take a chance going back to North Wake Animal Hospital and am SO HAPPY I did. My cat is very nervous in general and certainly hates going to the vet. It was very easy to make a same day appointment. When we got there, Joni took us into the exam room and immediately calmed my cat down by petting him and talking to him. Dr. Hraban came in and he wasn't afraid of her either. That was so amazing to me. Dr. Hraban explained everything to me and didn't try to push a ton of expensive procedures on me like some vets do. She called me after the procedure was done and explained a number of things and met with me again when I went to pick him up. I never felt hurried or treated like a number. The front desk staff members were awesome as well. The waiting area and exam room were super clean and there was no odor at all. I have found my new vet and will definitely be going there from now on! read more

Dr. Teresa Danford recently left the vet I had been using, but I trust her so much I moved my pets to North Wake. At my previous vet I had a cat that had been diagnosed with Cardiomyopathy and when Dr. T has seen him she questioned the diagnosis and referred me to a heart specialist for an echo cardiogram. I took him for the appointment and discovered that there was absolutely nothing wrong with him and we had been giving him a pill daily for 5 years and limiting his play. Dr. Teresa then did a dental cleaning and extractions on him (we had been concerned about sedation because of the misdiagnosed heart condition) and he's feeling so much better!! We also took our cat with entropion to see her last week for surgery and she's fixed his eyes and for the first time in his life he can see! He's already feeling so much better! Dr. Teresa is just a fantastic vet that will take time outside of work to research something if she needs to know more. I feel when I take my pets to her they are getting the best possible care but someone who is thinking critically about their issues! I love that she questioned the diagnosis that my cat had at another vet and she was right! She also does a lot of volunteer work with a rescue group I volunteer with and has helped many of those cats on her own time. Alley Cats and Angels uses her as their primary diagnostic vet. I notice a lot of people on this site complaining about Dr. Darch being gone, but if you want the best possible vet care, by someone who cares enough about your pet to keep thinking about your case even after your 15 minutes in the exam room are up - you need to see Dr. Teresa at North Wake. I'll follow her wherever she goes!! read more

We were visiting family in Raleigh for the holidays when our English Bulldog had a sudden and severe allergic reaction. North Wake stayed open for us on Christmas Eve and treated the reaction quickly and efficiently. I told them I wish they had a branch in our hometown! I took my pets here for years. I thought that I was treating my pets well, but I was wrong. My dog had surgery for a torn ACL. When we picked her up, she was in excruciating pain. I thought that perhaps that was normal. She never seemed to get better. She began only using 3 legs to hop around. We took her back to North Wake Animal Hospital 3 times. Each time, they said "Nope, it's fine" and gave her a shot of prednisone. They never once did an x-ray. Finally, we went for a second opinion at Falls Village Vet where the first thing they did was an x-ray. There was a metal piece that had come loose and was rubbing up against her bone. It was obvious why she was not using that leg. They referred us to Veterinary Specialty Hospital where we had the surgery performed for the 2nd time. This outcome was much better. When we picked her up, she wasn't in horrible pain. They were so much better about managing her pain. And soon after, she was using that leg again and was so much happier. She went from being so subdued and depressed to happy. Veterinary Specialty Hospital is significantly more expensive, but I think you get what you pay for. read more

Sadly, so much has changed since Dr. Darch sold this practice. The people are very nice, but the hospital is very poorly run. I was more than willing to give them a chance and was even looking forward to some of the updates. However, one of the first experiences we had with the "new regime" was when we had to take our kitty, Luna, in to be put down after a couple of years of illness. My husband and I were in tears when we got there, and they made us sit in the full waiting room with other patients for OVER AN HOUR while we held our sweet baby girl until we could get into a room to have her euthanized. They apologized and said there had been a mixup in scheduling and they were short staffed. That did very little to help our discomfort by having to grieve openly in a room full of strangers. The doctor who eventually saw us was very kind and was fantastic with Luna, which is the only reason I decided to give them another chance. The next straw was when I took in my kitty Destiny who has been going there for years for treatment of extreme dermatitis. I'm not sure what the doctor's name was that saw her, and again, he was very nice, but he clearly didn't read her history. He gave her her usual steroid shot and then prescribed DOUBLE the antibiotic that she normally takes. When I got her home, she became lethargic, had massive diarrhea and then had a mile seizure. I promptly took her to another local vet hospital, and they were amazing with her. They ran a full blood panel (which hadn't even been suggested at North Wake) and found that the steroid shots had caused her to be diabetic, and she also had pancreatitis. Her new doctor was very thorough and has had her on a regimented program of antibiotics and a mild oral steroid (no more prednisone shots!!!) to help control her dermatitis while controlling her other conditions as well. They have been phenomenal with her. She is our special needs kitty, and she needs thorough attention. North Wake just didn't seem to be able to do that anymore. I have moved all four of my cats over to their new doctor's office, and I couldn't be happier with the service. I absolutely loved Dr. Darch and Dr. Church, and it's sad to see that North Wake now is a corporate machine that definitely seems more concerned with profit over service. read more

I'm afraid to say that the retirement of Dr. Darch has been the downfall of this animal hospital. After a 22 year history with this establishment, I feel it is in the best interest of my animals to relocate them to another vet. The staff is not near as thorough. They do not stock supplies, but yet post signs on their door that it will be "noted" if you purchase your supplies from online vendors, however, they will not match prices, nor stock their supplies. They are even nasty about giving you the prescription. They missed a diagnosis in my animal, and during a routine exam, did not come even close to performing an exam that Dr. Darch would have done. They try to up sell everything. They seem more interested in the amount of money they bring in rather than the health of the animal. When Dr. Darch was there, you knew your animal was going to be thoroughly taken care of and loved. Quite frankly, I didn't feel any type of "affection" from the vets. Very disappointing. read more

Thank goodness for this site....I almost took my cat to No Wake Animal hospital but after reading the reviews decided to go to Kittrell Animal Hospital where Dr. Darch is now. I told him I was going to go to North Wake and he said no animal should go there. He said they shouldnt practice medicine and their prices are high. I took my mom's cat here a few times in the past few months...what did I know??....and didnt care for the vet really. And the prices were not low and reasonable. Thank God I decided to research reviews for No Wake....thank you to all who wrote reviews that used to go there before the practice was sold. None of my animals will go there ever. read more

After 20 years of having Dr Darch as the preferred and trusted vet for my Newfoundland dogs and other companion animals, I was heartsick when I heard he sold the practice. Changes to the way things were done was imminent and I tried to embrace them but I have decided that this practice is no longer the practice for me or for my pets. This was particularly true when Dr Church left to start his own practice too. The commercialization of the practice was ok, I guess, but when the new vets started coming in and pushing products I neither needed or wanted to boost their sales I started to draw the line. I've got one male Newf who has battled skin issues for five years and Dr Darch was always compassionate and caring while giving him what he needed in order to help him along. The last time we took him in a vet there started moaning and whining at my dog telling him how sorry she was that he had to suffer and she was so sorry he felt badly. Not once did she ask me about him, not once did she LOOK at me, not once did she even stop to think about the fact that he was brought in on a regular basis for care so that we stayed on top of it. Instead all she could do was try and make us feel guilty by telling the dog it wasn't his fault . Really???? She gave me a more expensive regimen of meds claiming they would last longer which they did not. She ignored his records with the protocol that did work and despite me asking, she said her current treatment was better. We also know they kept the same walk in clinic style (which I really liked) but we sat and waited for over an hour and while we waited they turned away five customers because they weren't staffed enough to accommodate the animals. Wow!! This is no longer the vet practice for me, sadly. I gave it one star but honestly, it doesn't even deserve that . read more

We have now switched to Dr. Church in Knightdale (who previously worked at North Wake with Dr. Darch). However, I have to update this review that when trying to transfer the records from this practice, North Wake really makes things difficult. I called twice to transfer records and it wasn't until Dr. Church's office called that the records were transferred. Also, we had been ordering the heart worm meds on line but once we switched, they quickly declined the refill through the on line order system. Funny how this place will make it very difficult for pet owners. read more

I first went to the North Wake Animal Hospital about three years ago when Dr. Darch was recommended to me by my dog trainer. The best thing about this practice: a) affordable vet care and products compared to other veterinary practices in the area; b) no need for appointments and yet you can still see the vet promptly. So what if his practice is not computerized? So what if he doesn't take credit cards? Those things add to the overhead of a practice, and I'm guessing that's why the prices are pretty darn cheap. I've met Dr. Darch and I've found him to be caring when it came to treating my great dane. Dr. Chuch is the one who usually sees my dogs and he also has a great demeanor. He's been very helpful and hands-on, especially with my older shar-pei who can be quite...cantankerous when it comes to vet visits. Also a big round of thanks to the vet techs who are there to help me with my shar pei, especially when he is being extra grumpy. HORRIBLE service!!!!!!!!!! Had a minor surgery on my 5 month old puppy's ear. Doctor quoted me at $180 for the surgery and then charged me $252 afterwards. Frustrated, I inquired why the price was so high. The doctor told me "these surgeries always cost $220 and meds are the rest, everyone knows that!" He continued to be disrespectful, rude, and extremely sarcastic to my wife and I. The doctor also accused us of not caring about our dog's health. His only solution to the severely climaxed price was to remove the medications.... Ridiculous.. Will never return again. Going elsewhere to have the stitches removed in two weeks even though the doctor offered to do it for free. read more

We have had two (going on three) adopted wonderful dogs and been to many vet places over the years. However, we will never go anywhere but to N. Wake Animal Hospital. Dr. D. came in on Labor Day just to help one of our very old dogs pass on and we had not been at the practice very long. That was 6 years ago. Without fail, they are friendly, affordable, and honest. We would not waste our money or time anywhere else. Yes, they are affordable but the level of care is priceless. Just one time and you can see it in their eyes - they love your pet and respect him/her as a member of your family! read more

We have used this Vet Hospital since 1995. We liked Dr.Darch a lot and when Dr.Church started liked him a lot too especially his follow up calls with a couple of our pets that have chronic conditions. Must say today 12-16-2013 we found out that Dr.Church is no longer there, we knew Dr.Darch retired and had sold the Vet hospital. My husband had to ask a few employees there where Dr.Church went with much prodding. We found him and will go there instead of North Wake Animal Hospital b/c of what happened today with a cat that has been diagnosed with asthma not only by Dr.Darch , Dr. Church but from NC State Vet Hospital. The Vet at North Wake Animal Hospital ran more test to be sure this is what her problem is, we have been dealing with this for almost a year now .This was NOT necessary. This guy is seconding guessing all these vet doctors and NC State Vet Hospital too. I am a RN and have had many animals and never have I ever seen the symptoms this cat has with what this new Vet there wants to "rule out" that may be the cause. Spare me! Especially when test where ran at NC State Vet Hospital for this. This vet evidently did NOT take the time to look at her records.Though the cost of this test was not much and money is NOT an issue for us when it comes to our pets... unlike my husband I got angry about today. It was not necessary to put this cat through that and for planting a seed that all the above should have done this test too. We will take ALL our animals to either Dr.Church's Animal Hospital or another. We have 31 pets plus my sister has three and I know many people and will let ALL know of today's events and our, especially my dislike of today's events. read more
