This review is written from the perspective of a neighboring condominium, not a client of NHS. Multiple units have been repeatedly affected by the team's lack of cleanliness and regard for our shared spaces. Construction debris - including wood chips, nails, and other materials - is frequently left on walkways. This is not merely a visual nuisance, but an ongoing safety hazard. We have previously contacted the DBI regarding these issues and have again reached out to escalate the matter. I attempted to speak with Mike on a prior occasion, but he was dismissive and appeared indifferent to the concerns raised. I have attached a photo from this evening showing a nail gun roll left directly in front of our walkway. Had this gone unnoticed, it could have resulted in a serious injury. Been an absolute nightmare. Mike Quinn hired tile a sub contractors who did not understand the difference between mastic and thinset. Huge problem as tile in shower floor is loose and unsupported when mastic washed down drain. Also does not understand problem of putting large tiles on slope to center drain. Have had wonderful contractors and subcontractor experiences over the years. I guess my good luck was up. This guy, Mike Quinn, is awful. read more

We hired Mike and NHS to replace all siding on a large house in May 2023. Things started off well but fell apart at the end when the project ran over schedule and his foreman had to leave for another project. Many details were left undone such as re-installing the exterior lights. There were attempts to charge us for unauthorized work or repairs to fix damage his crew caused. The final finishing was done poorly, not watertight, and we had to bring in another contractor to finish as well as to repair electrical wiring damaged by the siding nailing. We submitted a modest claim for our expenses of less than %3 of the total contract price which he agreed to pay. He continued to delay payment with stories like "I need you mailing address" or "I've closed the business, I told my attorney to pay, I don't know what happened". Eventually he stopped responding to our enquires altogether and seems to have moved his business to Tahoe as Tahoe Donner Construction. The claim remains unpaid to this day. read more

We remodeled our kitchen and flooring throughout and had some structural work done as well as interior painting. 2 years back and we have had to redo so many things. The flooring guys Mike hired didn't install the floor correctly and since we have had to spend over $3000 in repairs. Also our paint in several rooms is peeling because it wasn't prepped right. The basement was left so dirty and dusty after our floors were installed. The roofer he hired to fix a leak was not licensed and did a horrible job. I think he found him at home depot. He later admitted he had a problem with him on a previous job. The kitchen cabinets are off track and we're not the quality he stated they were. Im just hoping the structural work was done right. Mike was wonderful when we first met and very responsive but as the job went on he because less responsive and his attitude totally changed. read more

It is not possible to give a zero star rating on YELP. Mike was an absolute disaster. Much of the work completed was corrected by another contractor. The unfinished work was also completed by another contractor. We also experienced language barriers with most of his staff and were unable to reach Mike to resolve the issues. Thankfully, we had documented, photographed, and video taped everything and based on his contracts own wording, we withheld our final payment. Not surprisingly, we never heard back from Mike. Like the last review, Mike will passive aggressively blame his lack of integrity, honesty, and craftsmanship on his customers. So inappropriate. I have always dreaded and put off remodeling because of the horror stories of contractors going way over the estimate, missing deadlines, unreturned calls, etc. Mike was the exact opposite...a professional in the true sense of the word. Our floor replacement and kitchen repair came in under budget and took only two weeks. I couldn't believe it! We were on a super-tight schedule because we had to get water damage fixed for insurance purposes. Other contractors wouldn't take the job because it was too small or needed four months to do it or didn't want to deal with the insurance company. But Mike did all of it and was available via text even when he went out of country on vacation. The work looks fantastic and there were no hiccups in the process. We're going to use him again for another job, which is something I used to avoid at all costs! read more

NHS remodeled our 200 square foot kitchen in the fall of 2022. It took 5 weeks. Layout stayed the same. No plumbing or major electrical were moved. Mike made multiple visits prior to the start of the project so we could discuss our vision - communication was great, and things were off to a great start. Our working relationship soured at the end. Here is what we experienced: 1) After multiple site visits, his initial quote for the project did not include the waterfall kitchen counter or the backsplash. It wasn't until the middle (counter) and end (backsplash) of the project were we upcharged a significant cost for these items that he "left out." We anticipated extra costs, but these two items were fairly significant and with someone of his experience, we thought this was absolutely negligent and careless 2) There was a project manager, Jessica. She seemed overwhelmed and made less than weekly visits. The communication between us was fine. When she was not available, there was no one else to sub in. My husband works from home and every morning he had to direct the workers on the plan. I can't imagine the challenges if he was not at home to guide them. 3) There was an issue with our new fridge not fitting under the custom cabinets that we ordered (Mike will only work with you if you order cabinets through his vendors). Rather than trying to come out and assess the situation, we were told that we would either need to buy a new fridge or order new custom cabinets. Outrageous. Good thing Mike has a competent handyman. Between my husband and the handyman, they worked out a solution so we did not have to waste money on their suggestions to remedy the problem. 4) The electrical outlets along our countertop are not leveled. Some outlets are one inch higher than the others. When asking Mike to fix this, he accused us of being too into "the cosmetics." He response was that "they work. " 5) Our new sink did not drain. Mike refused to fix this issue. He said "the issues you raised have nothing to do with our work but are rather cosmetics." 6) The electrician cut the line that feeds into our wall panel heater. He didn't know what the "Extra cable" was for. We had no idea, because my husband and I are not electricians. Now, our heater in the living room no longer works. 7) Included in Mike's generic scope of estimates, he lists vinyl flooring. Right from the outset, we were clear we did not want vinyl flooring, but rather tile. We knew there was going to be an extra charge and we were OK with that. But due to the poor and careless wording on his estimate, he did not revise the true increase in cost for tile labor until the floors were already ripped out. When we voiced frustration, Mike encouraged us to "go ahead and look for other people to put in the tile." Again, another huge frustration that was entirely preventable. 8) Prior to work beginning, we had asked for a line item of costs. This was never given, which we were fine with since the bulk of the work was quoted. But so many potential costs were never reviewed that by the end of the project, 40% of our bill was from either hidden costs or charges that Mike conveniently left out of the initial quote. If you have someone onsite to micromanage, if you don't mind significant hidden costs, then Mike is your guy. This was our first remodel. Spending this kind of cash on your home should warrant us to care about minor details. read more

We had a great experience with Mike and his crew. We love our new kitchen and the process was about as seamless as possible. He gave us a detailed (and reasonable) estimate and design, then set us up with a cabinet/counter-top supplier. Mike had things running like a well-oiled machine: materials were in on time, and he had his guys lined up back to back. Crews were clean, professional, and even put up with our hyper golden retriever. We had a functioning kitchen after two weeks! There were a couple minor hiccups (as is inevitable with any large project), but Mike was receptive and made sure things got fixed ASAP. Final cost came in at the exact cost of the estimate. We are a small hotel property in downtown San Francisco and needed to freshen up our look. We had this company do some exterior work (fencing, siding, painting) for our home. They were very responsive to our concerns and questions and did an amazing job on everything we had asked for and more. Plus their pricing is very reasonable (best of all bids we received) and the whole crew was so friendly. After their job they stuck around for final walkthroughs and also came back the next day to ensure we are happy with their work. Everything about my experience with Northbay Home Solutions was so effortless. I was hesitant at first because I've never hired anyone for construction without a referral. I reached out to the company and was in contact with Mike, He was really easy to communicate with, understood what our needs were for our minor kitchen work of replacing Countertops and sink for my mother inlaw. His prices were almost too good to be true. He sent his crew to do Demo on Day 1 , they were efficient, clean, and quick less than 2 hours they came and handled what needed to be done. on Day 2 they returned for another 2 hours to install the New Quartz Countertops. Again were very efficient and Quick. Due to the fires in Napa the plumbing installation had to wait another day which was completely ok with us. So Day 3 Mike came and installed a NEW GARBAGE DISPOSAL, and NEW FAUCET. he also Ran the dishwasher to make sure there were no leaks. The smile on my motherlaws face was priceless. He initially quoted us $3K for 18 recess lights. We were really happy with that and were even planning to recommend them to our best friend and our in-laws after our job was done. We realized we needed 22 lights, instead of 18. When we asked for a re-quote, he hiked the quote to $5.5K, which is a 50% price hike per light! We were shocked. When we asked for a simple explanation, he dismissed it and asked us to work with others. Seems like they're getting too busy to care about 'small' $5,000 jobs. You might only be valuable to them if you don't mind throwing away 10-20 grand for a day of work. I hope they turn around in the future but we're left stranded for now. read more

NORTHBAY HOME SOLUTIONS-CONSTRUCTION California Contractors Lic#1068839 A few month ago I made the mistake of hiring Northbay Home Solutions to remodel my kitchen. The job required elevating a family room floor to equal the adjoining kitchen. This required raising a sliding glass door from family room to back yard patio. Once the door was set in place it created an approximately 20 inch drop from door to patio. I asked the contractor (Mike Quinn) about the step. He said that since a step was not written into plan or shown on blue print it was not part of the job and I would have to pay an additional $2000 to put in a step. I contacted the building dept for Petaluma and was advised that since building code required a step for safety reasons no additional charge should be added by the contractor. The contractor said he would not put in the step unless we paid the $2000. We were forced to give in to avoid a work stoppage on the kitchen remodel. A phone wire was never re-positioned even though it was on the plans and blue prints because the contractor (Mike Quinn) said he does not like dealing with telephone wires and wanted to be sure the phone will work correctly when rewired. We chose to have all the new appliances installed by the installers for the store where we bought them. When it was time to install a new micro wave w/exhaust fan we noticed the contactors workers had covered and tiled over the existing exhaust vent pipe. We were told that the exhaust vent was part of the installation and not kitchen remodel construction to prep for installation, therefore all cooking exhaust would have to be recirculated back into the kitchen. We were forced to pay an additional $1000 in order to have the exhaust vent installed. This was done by cutting a hole into the wall of an adjoining bedroom to access the pre-existing vent. Most of the workers could not speak or understand English and I do not speak Spanish. The Project Manager Jessica was very rarely on site and can not be trusted to relay correct or accurate information to the contractor. The workers had little to no supervision which they clearly needed. Work had to be redone repeatedly because of the inabilities of the workers to do it right the first time or even look at the blue prints/plans. Whenever an issue arose the contractor tried to blame our designer for items she had nothing to do with. Mike Quinn is a very well spoken person who will gain your confidence and then create additional situations that he can charge you extra for. WARNING Do Not hire Northbay Home Solutions unless you want poor quality work from unsupervised workers and a contractor who will create situations during a job that he can charge lots of extra money for. we feel lucky to have found Mike and Northbay Home Solutions after a series of unprofessional contractors who could not pull off our ADU build. Northbay home solutions signed a contract with us in March and completed the build in July, they were efficient with guys at our house 6 days a week and the communication about progress was great. one thing that stood out to us is that they don't use subcontractors, which helped to keep things moving and on budget. their quote to us was $130k less than other companies we got bids from. Mike himself was on site multiple times a week to make sure things were running smoothly and his whole crew was a pleasure to work with. We had very limited change orders and the ones we did have were my idea or from issues caused by our designer, for any changes we asked for he either didn't charge us or only charged us for materials and exact labor costs. We trusted the good reviews and went with Northbay Home Solutions for the install of our kitchen cabinets. Redflags came up early when we asked Mike, the owner for clarification on the contract and to meet with our kitchen planner and he refused to do both. Hector, the carpenter that did the work does fine work and was very friendly. He had numerous questions on the layout of the kitchen and due to a language barrier and our lack of construction experience, we could not answer his concerns. Mike, the owner was not available throughout the project so mistakes were made. The plans which were written in English, were not followed accurately. We had delays related to miscommunication and new cabinet parts had to be ordered. Mike refused to return to complete the job unless paid in full in advance. Despite the social distancing and having to wear a mask, Mike Quinn and his team worked diligently and professionally to get the work done on schedule. After the initial assessment of the project, I received the proposal really fast, the estimated cost was very reasonable compared to other estimates that I received, and the signing of agreements was paperless, via e-signature. After finding out that grand G and K were closing there door we had to look for different options as we were in the middle of a kitchen remodel. I found northbay homes solutions of Craigslist. Mike and norm were friendly and very knoledgable on there products. Norm came out that weekend and did some measurement and had an example of there cabinets in his car so we could see them first-hand. In less than 24 hours norm had a layout of our kitchen and an estimate for the cabinets plus addition estimate if we wanted them to install the cabinets also. I haven't yet hired these folks to repair my bathroom floor, but I just got off the phone with the owner and wanted to post a good review because he was so helpful. Unlike every other business I've contacted to get a quote on doing a bathroom floor repair for me, he actually answered the phone, took a couple minutes to go over some likely scenarios, and gave me a clear timeline on when he can send someone out to take a look and also when the repair could be done if I hire them. He didn't talk down to me because I'm a woman, he was incredibly helpful, and he seems to really care about his business and his potential customers. So very much appreciated! read more
