Care is great! Office staff and processes are horrible. They now have an AI and you can't get past him. Good luck.

I am a patient of Dr. Najera, I encountered and extremely unfortunate situation April 19, 2026 with his office staff. (Eugene, Jazmin-team lead, and Melany-office manager). Let's begin with I feel very lucky to have found Dr. Najera, he is a brilliant physician who displays great concern for my health. He exuberates a wealth of knowledge, an amazing bedside rapport, and is extremely thorough with his care. He listens intently at your full medical history, I never felt rushed and that is difficult to find in healthcare today. He deserves a 5-star rating however his front-end office staff deserve a rating of a ZERO. No one should be treated the way I was, I will not be another name and a number, I deserve to be treated with respect, dignity and decency. To put everything in perspective let me explain. Originally July 2025 I started receiving care from Dr. Najera. I had a follow up appt in September and notified him I was unhappy with some difficulty obtaining correct lab orders from the office staff (that caused a 2hr delay in my day), issues with scheduling appointments (you can never talk to someone here in San Antonio it is an off shore call center) takes days for someone to attempt to call you back, and the office itself you cannot directly call. This is highly frustrating. He listened to everything and then sent in a lovely lady named Victoria (practice manager). She was absolutely amazing, listened to all my concerns and I left this appointment extremely happy. I then had another follow up appt in December 2025 everything went well. I was supposed to have a follow-up in March regarding lab work that was completed and received a phone call that they needed to reschedule. I said no problem, Jazmin offered me one day only to come in I already was working that day and that would not work for me and she said okay then come at end of June. I said absolutely not my appt was originally for March that is too far away for something that was not my fault. I escalated it to Melany, Jazmin thought she put me on hold and she didn't, I heard them conversating rudely in a insensitive way about how I couldn't make the appt. Melanie got on the phone and said she could offer a telehealth appt and I obliged that it would work perfectly due to the appt only was to discuss follow up lab work. My telehealth appt was scheduled for April 20th I had already completed all my online pre check-in verification with photos of my insurance card which they already had from prior visits and all questionnaires completed as well. I received a phone call from Eugene April 19th at 4:45 saying I needed to pay my copay right now or they would cancel my appt. and how the office closes at 5pm. I explained to Eugene that I was picking up my child from the bus stop I did not have my wallet at the time due to torrential rain we were receiving this day and the buses were running behind. I had no problem paying it first thing the following morning. He said no they needed it and I had 15 minutes to pay it or my appt would be cancelled. I escalated this to Jazmin-team lead and experienced rude conduct from her as well. Now please let me tell you I have no outstanding balances and I have always paid for all my appts. Then I asked for the office manager and Melany spoke with me I explained the unfortunate situation to her and she said I have 6 minutes to pay it or that's it. I told her I would speak to Dr. Najera the way I was being treated and questioned if they spoke to all their patients like this and Melany hung up on me and prior to slamming the phone down, I overheard he say "Cancel her appt". I am astounded that the office doesn't get more complaints with the bullish unprofessional conduct from the front-end staff. Patients pay for a service and it is astounding how I was treated and totally uncalled for. I have NEVER experienced such reprehensible and deplorable conduct from anyone. The physicians in this group would be astounded if they knew this was occurring from one of their office managers who should be setting examples to others in the office. I have thought about this over the last several weeks and because I feel Dr. Najera is a highly regarded endocrinologist and not easily replaceable I called the office three days in a row May 6, 7, and 8th, all three times got an AI bot named "Elvis" left a message and finally on May 8th received a text message back stating I could use the endobot chat feature on the website listed. I attempted twice without success. Extremely frustrating and infuriating when you are a patient attempting to advocate for your health. I cannot imagine if a patient had a reaction to a medication or needed an emergency appt due to complications, you would absolutely never get to speak to anyone in the actual office. That is appalling. I took the time to write this review for the safety of other patients and also in hope that the physicians are aware of how I was personally treated. read more

I went to make an appointment as a new endocrinology patient since I have Hashimoto's, but they would not accept me as a new patient without a referral. I have a PPO and don't need referrals, but they said it is their policy to get a referral even if our insurance doesn't require one. Attached is the email response I received from NE Endo. This office has the worst office staff of any doctors that I have ever been seen through. They NEVER call back. It took me over a year before anyone called me to actually schedule an appointment. They would call, I would call them RIGHT back but got a voicemail, left a message but NEVER HESRD FROM THEM AGAIN! This went on for over a year! Now that I am a patient, I leave messages but they NEVER GET BACK TO ME! The doctor is great but due to this really unorganized office staff, I am going to try other Endocrinologists! read more

The recent poor reviews should be a clear indication to stay away! My personal experience included dealing with office staff who are unprofessional and rude (the receptionist either left on her own or was terminated - I never saw her again) so I decided to stay; however, the last appointment I went in for they made me wait over 2 hours past my appointment to be seen and just smirked and gave a half-ass apology when I expressed displeasure at the extended wait. You should also be aware that if you need to cancel your appointment because you got sick inside of 48 hours before your appointment, they will charge you the $75 cancellation fee - no exceptions! If you are unfortunate enough to get sick the night before, just go in and infect the place, they don't care. Note that I informed them that I was requesting copies of my records as I intended to find another practice that cared about providing great service; I got a letter in the mail weeks later informing me that they are withdrawing care. Guaranteed response for posting a negative review of their practice. The whole "I know you quit, but I'm gonna fire you" thing was entertaining though. read more

On February 10, 2026 Dr. Bilbatua refused an 82 yo woman requests by the patient and family member to have the family member present during her exam - twice. The patient has cognitive and hearing impairments. She proceeded with her exam despite these repeated requests. She reportedly believed the patient's daughter was rude to her on a telephone call 8 months prior, however, she never mentioned the issue. Denial of this request caused increased anxiety and distress to the patient. She was only concerned about her feelings of comfort, not the patients. Dr. Bilbatua violated the American Medical Association's Code of Ethics and Patients' Bill of Rights to allow a family member or chaparone present during an exam. If you have an elderly loved one, do not take them to see this provider. As an ER nurse for almost 20 years, who has dealt with patients and family members who have been upset or had instances of miscommunication, I have always put my patients first. The number of stars is zero. If you value your life you will NOT visit this office. The staff is very rude and unprofessional. Attempts to make an appointment repeatedly fail. Long waits and nothing but excuses. Any attempt to communicate with Doctor's will be meet with very poor attitudes. The medical care is very poor, you will experience constant bait and switch. Any request for medical records is a joke, certified mail or any other method. The only response from the staff is "we don't keep any of your medical records" Phone calls attempting to make appointments or receive medication are very poorly addressed if at all. Most are ignored. Asking to speak to the office Manager is even worse. This is not a place to pursue medical treatment if you are seeking to get better. Visit at your own risk. read more

This practice cares little for the life of their patients outside of getting paid, and if you question any of your care, they will drop you! (Not to mention will leave you waiting over an hour for Telehealth visits!) I had bariatric surgery, then a ruptured appendix, and Dr Kowaja refused to address my new body and biology; he insisted and kept prescribing drugs & treatments I no longer needed, conflicting with my other doctors. I thought I had finally found a better endocrinologist and diabetic partner to assist and support my health living with Type2 Diabetes since my mid-20s. I started with Dr Wortham, then with Dr Kowaja. The lack of communication from the front office and the total lack of respect for patients asking questions, and waiting 45-60 minutes after scheduled appointments, I complained and asked for better. Three months later, Dr Kowaja mailed a certified letter dated for May, but didn't receive it until July--a letter stating Dr Kowaja no longer wished to treat me. It said I had 30 days to request any care, dated May 23, 2024, but received July 1? This is an awful practice and needs training in Health Communication, but if you complain or question your care, they will drop you with zero warning or communication. read more

I was referred to Northeast after a stay in the ICU after my blood sugar soared after contracting pneumonia. I have been a Type 2 diabetic for twenty years and I have never had better care than I received at NEA. My nurse, Ayssa, was very thorough and patient and reviewed all of the information I had on my medical history and hospital stay. Dr. Najera was fantastic, spending at least 30 minutes with me explaining what my body had gone through and talking in depth about the options and recommendations going forward. Amongst other things, he recommended the use of a Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) and took time to give me detailed instructions on how to use it. After he finished, Ayssa, helped me mount the CGM and was extremely patient when helping me load the application on my phone and get it set up. I was very nervous and apprehensive about my condition and hopes for getting better when I entered the NEA offices and after their attention and recommendations on my path forward to good health, I am confident I will improve under their care. My experience with Northeast Endo is that Dr Khowaja is knowledgeable and listens and provides good treatment options. The front desk staff has good customer service. Phone service trying to get through or a call back is quite challenging though. The medical assistant could improve on customer service and respond time and appropriately to patients to show their support. read more

Ever since Dr. Akright retired this practice has gone down hill. They schedule appointments don't send confirmation calls/texts/emails then charge $100 no show fee when you don't show up. They blame you for not remembering your appointment when they do NOTHING to help remind you. It's a shame! They USED to be amazing! Now I wouldn't recommend them to ANYONE! read more

This is the second time the front desk girl, Erica, is extremely rude to my husband. We had just walked in for our appointment, were not even at the desk yet when she was noticeably irritated and giving attitude towards him. She told us to check in the app, and since we are a little older, we did not know how, and she basically gave my husband attitude, and said that he had to do it by himself. I looked around to see if she was giving anyone else attitude and I looked to see if she was giving the person behind us attitude, and it was as if it was just geared towards my husband. We are Mexican, but we do speak English and it seemed that she had a problem when we were speaking Spanish since that is our first language but again we are comfortable speaking English if we have to. She brought a coworker who did speak Spanish, and basically had her Translate when we had just told her we speak English also. I was furious! And I did tell her if she did not like her job, then she did not need to be there. Management needs to do a little better hiring their front desk personnel as that's the face of your company. I have been seeing Dr. Najera for 3 years and am very pleased with his care. Questions through the patient portal are answered within 24 hours. I fine him very caring and concerned about my health not only physical but psychological health. Staff is great. New location is nice read more

I have been going to this team of Endocronolgist for 5 years. They work very well as a team. Depending on if you are hyper or hyper T determines who you see. I have no issues with the method of treatment I received. I was on year two of trying to get my numbers In check prior to going to these doctors. Laura Akright was very professional and Listened to me talk about my symptom and considered my feelings about not wanting to take medication. I had to no choice with my Graves' disease and me not having a Thyroid. I had to call the emergency number a few time and I received the Immediate care that I need it by the on call Doctor. I was very impressed. I trust this team of doctors because They listen to my concerns and my symptoms. I'm not a big fan of taking medications and I'm not the easiest patient to work with. But these professionals have done a great job in the last five years that I have I've been a patient at their establishment. I highly recommend The team of endocrinologist at this facility. I currently see Dr. Schmidt and I feel that he is a pretty awesome endocrinologist. He puts up with my resistance and gives me sound advice on treating my health conditions he's very patient with me and I appreciate it. When it comes to doctors I am not the easiest patient to work with. So kudos to the doctors at this facility. In five years I first saw Laura A when I was hypo T and then was treated by Doc. Gonzalez. I think that was his name. I was hypo at that time. Now I am with Dr. Schmidt. All very professional doctors. read more

I'm glad I came to Jeremy Schmidt, NP in 2020! Office clean, staff knowledgeable, organized and ease in maneuvering through the system. Jeremy is great! Caring and comforting. I moved from a state that has top-notched healthcare and was leary! I hit the jackpot. Thanks guys for taking great care of me! I suffer from Hashimoto's disease and I had heard great things about Dr. Akright. As many of us with autoimmune diseases know, it is very difficult to find a great MD who will treat not only your thyroid levels, but also your symptoms. Dr. Akright was no exception. I must also mention that I was with this office for two years and saw Dr. Alright only twice. For all the other visits you're pawned off on her even more unhelpful associates Kinomos and Gallop. Don't even get me started on them. From the beginning, I had to find out all my knowledge about the treatment for my disease from outside sources, of which Dr. Akright referred to as "VOODOO." Well, it was that same voodoo that helped me get my antibodies down to nearly undetectable levels. The final blow from this office came when I requested an appointment for my dying mom who's TSH level was 135! Even under the circumstances, their office wasn't willing to squeeze her in until three months from when I called. I hope this office loses their license to practice. Looking at the older reviews, thank goodness I came in 2020. The office staff is great, the back office is on point and I can't say enough about my new endocrinologist Jeremy Schmidt. I went there terrified and left reassured. In the medical field myself, I am used to top-notched care and have found just that. I feel safe and cared for. He is knowledgeable, realistic and helpful. I am grateful to be in such good hands. After 2 visits I am already seeing improvements. God bless you guys. You Rock! read more

Well if I could go no stars I would seems nothing that was promised about meds or being able to get them how I was told was true. Was thirty times more exspensive than was told originally no coverage as I was told at all by insurance company and they didn't even call any of them in. Not that I'd go back anyways by choice other than hard to find one of these doctors on our area at all. After driving 40 miles was feed bs and was told her right to vote for obozo the clown and hate guns trumps all of ours to carry one. Per the signage outdoor of the place. Looks like they should try doing job before they decide to try and make me not have any rights. Being a military area not a sound decision by the staff for their doctor office to say nobody has right to defend themselves here. It's lawsuit waiting to happen when the mass murderers show up there. If you live you'll get paid probably because of that bad decision again from a two time obozo voter in fairly certain. read more
