Northeast Tea House is a serene escape from the bustle of everyday life. The wooden interior overall kindness of the staff makes the place so inviting. I have tried their freshly milled matcha twice and it was astounding! They broadened my understanding for how matcha could be consumed in a minimalistic way. Be warned for my fellow matcha latte drinkers: they do not add sweetener or milk but nonetheless, the drinks were marvelous. I would love to come back and really try their loose leaf teas!

If you're a matcha lover this location is 1 of 3 places nationwide w/ freshly-milled matcha. I got one iced Miyamakaori with notes of dandelion, watermelon, and seaweed. I liked it so much I tried it hot but in the end I preferred it iced. We also got a traditional Gyokuro green tea. They don't have matcha lattes but they have a decent menu and a nice vibe with all the decor and seating.

Wowwwww!!! This was my first time at Northeast house and it did not disappoint! I'm a big matcha person so I've been wanting to go here for a long time. I tried the most basic starter Matcha they had and it was absolutely so interesting. My boyfriend got a Jasmine tea and also had a great depth of flavor. We both got a mochi dessert to share to cut the bitterness from the tea and I was surprised at how soft they were! The shop was so nice and quiet, and the person working was so knowledgeable about each tea!!

Super warm and inviting tea house. Right when you enter you can smell the tea and it's a very cozy atmosphere. The tea I got was very good. I noticed they have classes like matcha making so I look forward to looking into that! Service was friendly and attentive.

Super fun spot! I'm not a huge fan of matcha but that's what we came to try and for those who love matcha this is like heaven! Love the vibe inside and the traditional floor seating (they also have regular seats and tables as well). They make all the matcha with just matcha and water so it really gives the full unfiltered matcha experience. I also didn't realize that there are different kinds of matcha with different flavor profiles so it was interesting to see that. The staff was nice and helpful in deciding what matcha to try and overall a great experience!

    16oz pots of tea

I really enjoyed this spot! At first I thought $6 for tea seemed a bit much but it's a 16oz pot and is worth it. The tea is really good and full of flavor. The pastries were great. They heated up the banana bread for me. The ambiance is the best part tho! There's a lovely low lying, wooden communal table under the window. This is a place to relax! Not a place to work. I love their policy of no laptops or tablets and limited cell phone usage. Decor is great with very nice, quality stoneware tea sets for purchase. They'd make great gifts for someone special who really appreciates tea. Parking is a challenge in this area but paid spots are available on the street, in a small lot around the corner, and in ramps.

Definitely a place to come to if you're a matcha aficionado as the operate one of the only mills in the nation! Located in the very walkable part or northeast you can stop in and try a whole host of fresh brewed teas and sip on them for hours at any of their tables each stationed with an electric kettle to keep your tea warm. There's even traditional floor seating and you can purchase or bring your own tea pet to pour your tea over. I appreciate the signage asking patrons to keep the space relaxing and free from laptops. There's also a well kept aquarium for you to lose thought in as you relax with your tea. I stopped in and picked up the white tea sakura lemonade and really enjoyed it. It is a seasonal drink so I recommend coming in soon to get it before it's gone!

Best Matcha and Tea House in Twin Cities I've been looking for a lower caffeine alternative to coffee and was recently turned on to the health benefits of green tea. When a friend told me that the Northeast Tea House in NE Mpls has the "best tea anywhere", I had to try it. It did not disappoint. Located near East Hennepin and University Ave, the Tea House offered sushi bar style seating where you can watch them make your tea, traditional tables or even a Japanese style tea table with comfy floor seating and warmers for your hot water. The service was friendly, patient and instructive, especially for those of us whose only experience with tea comes from a box in the pantry or a 16oz can from Kwik Trip. If you'd like to buy a gift for the tea snob in your life, they have a nice selection of tea sets, dried teas and tins of matcha. The matcha pairs well with the zen of the large aquarium - if you really want to escape.

Northeast Tea House is a special place, really unlike anything else in the Twin Cities. You can experience Gongfu tea service here, where you're given a kettle and your selection of tea leaves to repeatedly steep and drink small cups of. It's a very shareable experience, and one any tea lover should try. They are also one of just two matcha mills in the US, making it a must-stop for matcha fans as well. If neither of these are quite what you're looking for, they also offer single cups of tea, iced tea, and baked goods that punch way above their weight. They encourage a screen-free environment here, creating a serene and grounded an environment. It's the perfect place to (quietly) catch up with a friend, or bring a book to read.

Please try their matcha if you're a big matcha fan who has a high standard for quality -- this store doesn't disappoint. The barista showed me three types of matcha and the cans of matcha powder. They are very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about tea when I asked about it. I knew the matcha is good from the vibrant green color unlike the matcha you typically find online with a yellowish brown color. The matcha doesn't disappoint -- without any milk or sweetener, it tastes perfect with beautiful aromatic notes.

The peaceful tranquility of this place is alluring in itself. I like the rule no laptops and other peripherals are allowed. The ambience was great; feels like you are in a teahouse in japan. The yellow tea i had was great. The matcha cheesecake was amazing wish it was bigger. The price point was not too bad about $6-7 for 6oz. Unfortunately, parking can be a challenge...there is some public street and parking ramps. However don't let it discourage you from going; it is a great first date spot!

My husband surprised me with a trip to this tea house and Oh My Goodness I am in love! The staff was so pleasant and introduced me to different teas, showed me how they steep their tea, and even showed me how they process their own Matcha. I was in a really low mental space and the ambiance and tea really lifted my spirits. I plan to visit until I drink my way through the menu! So very satisfied with my visit today. I really needed it!

Enjoyed the teas and ambiance. Service was friendly and helpful. Lots of variety. They do not have any sweeteners or milks. Will deff come back to try their matcha and do some reading. Street parking.

Do they prepare/serve Pu'erh tea with the Traditional Chinese Method?

We do. In fact all of our teas are prepared using gongfu. Even for teas to go! If you're staying in, we set you up with a gaiwan etc so you can prepare the pu'er yourself.

One of my favorite places in the world!! They carry an amazing variety of black, green, oolong,…read morewhite, puer, and herbal teas, truly the most I've ever encountered ...and all of these (to me) are special and delicious....my go-to, staple teas are Albert Square, Breakfast Assam, the Shincha green teas, and Iron Goddess of Mercy oolong. The blends are also amazing, such as Blueberry Fields or Green Mango (good chilled!) and Roasted Chestnut (try with spiced chai milk, wonderful on cold winter days). The in-house chai is the best chai I've ever tasted...you can buy the TeaSource spice packets to make your own at home (the mix is the store's own house-made blend...) The high-end black and oolong teas are also pretty amazing, and I'll order these once in a while. I especially love the Sleepy Hollow black tea (originally Jin Jun Mei) and super delicious Guyokuro Japanese green teas... The shop is conveniently located in St. Anthony's Shopping Center, right off of I-35W. It's a super fun and cozy place to visit (staff are always so friendly, helpful, and generous), although you can also order the teas online... Make sure to also check out their unique selection of cute teapots and cups!! I have several in different sizes and colors...another plus is that their prices are pretty great and reasonable for almost everything.... This is a must visit for tea lovers....you will definitely find a tea (most likely many!) that will become a favorite(s)!!

Caffetto is the quintessential Minneapolis coffee shop--they've got tasty, reasonably priced drinks…read more(including a robust selection of teas both hot and iced), good hours, and a real fun punk cafe vibe (lots of fun graffiti and vintage pinball machines). I think Caffetto kind of corners a market that no one else has by being open so late--most coffee shops are barely open past noon, and they're open until midnight! I've personally spent many a late night there finishing up work--it's a really cozy atmosphere, and the selection of pinball machines in the basement are the perfect study break activity. The staff are all great and even when there's a line, they get through it quick and are still able to offer great recommendations--while I usually prefer an iced green tea with no ice, I've tried the lattes, cold press, Thai coffee, and hot chocolate and have genuinely never had a bad drink here. The only thing is to make sure you watch your step if you're walking in the basement--even though it has seating and pinball and the bathroom, it's more of an unfinished space with uneven flooring and I personally rolled my ankle and fell there last year haha.

I jetted from work early to try this coffee shop because I needed a change of scenery and…read more.. well... it's Tuesday. :) I was surprised to find that the cafe was packed at 2:30 in the afternoon, but got lucky enough to snag an intimate table in the corner, perfect for reading a book in peace! I had a triple decaf almond milk latte that tasted like it was caffeinated to me but didn't give me the buzz I'm so addicted to, that's when you know it's a good decaf. I love the coziness and the unique artwork in Caffetto. I look forward to coming back at an earlier hour to feed my addiction. But it's great to know I have a go to coffee shop for those afternoon cravings where the decaf tastes just as delightful! UPDATE- 2 hours later: there's additional seating and a pinball machine room in the basement, glad I went downstairs to the bathroom.
