Charged for service not needed and damaged my wood stove. Made several attempts at resolution and they ignored all contact.

I hired Northeastern Chimney to repair my chimney. The crown was the key element of the repair. Seven years and 5 months later, I found water was coming into my fireplace. Long story short, the crown was poorly built and had separated from the brick structure. This created a gap that allowed water to infiltrate the chimney. A well-built crown should last 15 to 25 years or more. Northeastern refused to acknowledge that their crown failed to meet industry standards and refused to refund the $1,100 I paid. They are unprofessional and untrustworthy. read more

As another reviewer commented, get multiple quotes! Northeastern was nice and did a good job cleaning our chimney but said we'd need to completely replace the liner. This project would've cost us a few thousand dollars. We had another company come and inspect the chimney and it turns out the liner is completely fine. Akiel and company did a wonderful job explaining things in detail and were very courteous and friendly. I expected a lot less and got so much more out of their visit. I can tell you that they were respectful of the things in my home, including the hardwood floors with the equipment needed to clean. I have been using Northeastern Chimney for years because they are knowledgeable, friendly and their customer service is unmatched. I recently bought a new house and hired Northeastern for a chimney cleaning. Because of their thorough inspection before the clean we found some major damage in the furnace and fireplace - both needing to be relined. The furnace was no problem but we soon learned that our 100+ year old chimney needs a custom-made liner. The best part: Northeastern is not passing on additional costs for the custom liner - wow! Dave came out and took thorough pictures of the improper installation of a gas fireplace insert. He was so helpful and was really empathetic to my situation. They were so helpful to me!!! Had a chimney liner put in a couple years ago. Had the work done which was a smooth transaction. As a new homeowner I learned the importance of getting multiple quotes....I did not get multiple quotes. Turns out I paid close to $800 more after talking to other companies. New project having a pipping installed for my wood stove. They were my 4th quote. Their quote was $2,100 more than my lowest quote which was by a licensed company. Absolutely blew my mind. Please save your money and go with someone else. I had an appointment made over 2 months in advance. I took the day off from work and literally 1 hour before my appointment they called and canceled on me. They said there was an emergency and someone called them who lost their heat, WELL I DONT HAVE HEAT EITHER! WHAT MAKES THEM MORE SPECIAL THAN ME??? I'VE HAD AN APPOINTMENT FOR 2 MONTHS!! After arguing for a while they tried calling in a worker to come to my house after hours but then they canceled that too saying he couldnt make it!! So finally I calmly said ok I understand (even though I was furious) and said fine I can take tomorrow off so you can push me back a day. Guess what they said to me? We're sorry sir but the next available appointment is on the 29th, 19 days later!!! How can they cancel on me twice, then not squeeze me in this week sometime when I've been waiting for 2 months patiently! This company should not be in business and I strongly encourage you as a customer not to hire them in any way. read more

After having utilized the chimney services of a wonderful "independent guy" for several years, I was skeptical of switching to a larger company (our special indy retired - we miss you Leon). Prior to our initial chimney cleaning/inspection, we received a courtesy call as a reminder... both the business day before AND 20 minutes prior - yet the calls were quick and concise. This was a plus for me. Then our "new guy" arrived to do his stuff. I have to admit, after having worked in customer service and sales for several years, I expected a big song and dance with an over-the-top sales pitch for work that probably wouldn't be necessary. Yet, I was impressed with this "new guy", Steve. He laid the facts out, including showing us what needed to be repaired and WHY, then presented very helpful options. He wasn't pushy. Even with a crazy dog and crying baby at the forefront, Steve was very respectful and seemed understanding of my beloved distractions. He took the time to explain when I requested additional information, and he did so in a very respectful manner. Most impressive, for me, was his lack of condescending behavior toward a woman. Even in my husband's presence, he looked AT ME when he was answering my questions. He did not direct the conversation toward my husband, but rather treated us as equal "customers". We are happy with our chimney inspection/cleaning and will re-post/edit the outcome upon completion of the repair work that will be conducted in the near future. I had 2 gentlemen out to inspect my chimney last week. They were very thorough, and had a camera that could be snaked up the chimney so they could really get a clear picture of the problem. They explained everything to me in a way that I could understand and offered me a few different options to correct the issues they found. Had a long-term appointment. They arrived prior to appointment time. I was home but did not know. I was told by receptionist they waited an hour! I had no idea they were outside. They left phone message that were to be early apparently while at the property which I didn't notice. They also said mailbox full?! I was inside the whole time. Midway into scheduled time I phoned the office and they said technician had been early but left! The office told me that they had to change my appt to later. Why couldn't they just have come during the appointment time made weeks ago? I was also confused as to charges for services (estimate vs. inspection vs cleaning) and asked several questions trying to clarify, Phone receptionist got impatient and told me I should look for another company. So I get not to have a long-term appointment at the time given, not to get the inspection and still need work done. Frustrating. Irony is that I have used them over the years for cleanings which is why I phoned. Guess not a customer any more! read more

We have a three story chimney with three flues. Most chimney companies won't work with us but this company knows how to clean our heavily used fireplace flue, quickly and without making any mess at all. And they don't tell us to clean things that don't need cleaning or replace something when it's safe to delay for a while. read more

This company did a chimney inspection because the house was being sold and the inspection done as part of the sale process noted (from the ground with binoculars) a crack in the flue pipe. This company was called in to do a more detailed inspection and verified the crack and recommended replacement of the top section of flue. Because I thought the quote was far too high I contracted with another company who relied on the this company's inspection. When the repair was done it turned out to be a hairline crack above the top of the chimney that did not warrant replacement of the pipe. I would seriously question the ethics of this company.. read more

I was looking for a company to install a liner in my chimney as well as a wood-burning insert. Called Northeast Chimney because they had a good reputation and I knew customers that use (used) them. They sent a representative right out within a week of contacting them, on Aug. 1st. The rep looked at my fireplace/chimney and said the work would not be a problem and to give him one to two weeks to email me the quote. Three weeks came and I had not heard anything so I gave them a call. The receptionist seemed surprised that I hadn't heard from anyone yet and said she would have the rep call me. Four weeks came and I still had not heard anything so I called back. The receptionist again seemed surprised and stated she would have the owner, Dave Lamb, call me directly. Dave did call me and left me a message. I called him back within the hour only to get his voicemail in which I left a message, never hearing anything back from him. Six weeks since the initial visit and I still had not heard anything from the company. Again I initiated the contact and again the receptionist said she would contact the rep. She also stated the next day they were having a board meeting and she would bring up my quote and get some answers. She stated I would hear from her by noon the next day. Never heard anything back from her or anyone else from Northeast for the rest of the week. Week Seven came and I again called to find out an update. I was put on hold and then very quickly told "sorry but we are unable to do the work you're requesting, we thought the rep had explained that to you when he originally came out." I understand that sometimes work can't be done or they are too busy to take on new customers, however they should say this right away and not leave a customer waiting for almost a month and half. VERY disappointed in this company and will be sure to pass this experience along to any current or prospective customers. I will not be going back Northeast Chimney for any future business. read more
