Driving through town, we were looking for a place for lunch and maybe catch a few holes of the British Open. The Northern Divide is in a golf clubhouse. The atmosphere is very 'northern MN', fireplace, stone, log cabin walls,... very cozy. I chose the soup and salad lunch special. Soup was chicken and dumpling. It was robust and service nice and hot with oyster crackers. Bit salty though. The garden salad was good with fresh tomatoes and cucumbers (onions as well but a bit too many of those). Croutons were soft and would be much better if they were crispy. There were lots of sandwich choices and husband had the Club which was good and served with kettle chips. Nice lunch. We had to wait a bit for service due to it being packed and the two servers working where running all over the place. Our server ended up being great and very attentive to us throughout the night. Our drinks never went empty and he had great knowledge of the menu. The kids burger was very dry but the fries where good. The ribs are loaded with bbq sauce but they where very good. The Walleye was awesome and the loaded potato was great. When we're back in the area we would eat here again. read more

We arrived on a Sunday at 11 & we were given the choice of ordering off the menu or having the brunch buffet. After taking a look at the buffet we tried that. First of all there was a nice large selection of options, some breakfast items & some lunch options with some unique options such as Scottish Eggs ( Hard boiled egg wrapped in sausage & deep fried ). Everything was hot and very good while the crew did a nice job of refilling the containers when they were empty or getting low. We absolutely will come back next time we are in the area. read more

Stayed in Virginia, MN for one night and restaurant options were limited. Went out in a limb and tried this placed based on reviews. This is a restaurant in a golf club house but I would highly recommend it! Server was on point and food was great! I liked they had different options than your run of the mill choices. The Hubsters and I stopped here on our way up to Ely and are very glad we did! The inside of the restaurant was nice - very clean and nice atmosphere. Our server was extremely friendly and perfectly attentive. We ordered the Divide Flatbread and the Smoked Brisket Melt. Both were absolutely delicious. Not again, service was great food not so much, i ordered the 16oz prime rib med rare, i god at most 10oz med well cut with garlic mashed potatoes and canes green beans.... My wife got the fish tacos, well the plating was off, 2 tacos and the fish to arugula was way off, more arugula the maybe the 6 pieces of fish... the spinach artichoke dip was great, the cocktail mixing for a double tall was way off.... I've eaten here several time recently and I forgot how good the food is. Yesterday I had the shaved prime rib sandwich and it was so tasty. I haven't eaten here since it was the old Michael's, and I was very impressed! I had the Smoked Brisket Melt, and it was fantastic. The meat was tender and smoky, the cheeses melted perfectly, and the caramelized onions added a great sweetness as well as the cranberry jam. What an awesome combination of flavors. We just had a wonderful lunch here at the Northern Divide. My husband had a meatloaf sandwich- says it's the best he's ever had. I had a giant salad that had fresh lettuce and heirloom tomatoes. We travel all over and they had the best kids meal we have ever seen- fresh cantaloupe, pineapple and apples. My husband and I went out for a long overdue anniversary dinner! Everyone is preaching support our local eateries, they are struggling. Let's start with the fake that your prices are extremely high for what you are serving! The service is also extremely slow!! We started with some wings, I'm pretty sure there were some wings underneath the thick spicy sauce? Hard to tell since I couldn't taste much the the heat!! I ordered the Ribeye, something was definitely wrong when I went to slice it, my knife slid through like a hot knife to butter. My assumption was that this steak had been WAY over marinaded!! The texture was disgusting, there is no other way to explain it! Great food, but it was a bit cumbersome on a Sunday. The restaurant was full, they only offer a breakfast buffet on Sunday with a lunch menu option. The breakfast buffet is $14/adults, 4 and under are free. The menu has great items - none of which are kid friendly. And I have adventurous eaters. My kid is 6....so i wasn't going to pay $14 for her to nibble on a muffin and a whole apple. (All she wanted was oatmeal and it wasn't an option at the buffet.) Family friendly if you like buffets, we don't (we had been advised years ago by a doctor to avoid for medical reasons. And we like our food made fresh for us.) and the items in the menu were great. My sister and I decided to finally try this place so we went here for drinks and dinner on a Thursday evening. We walked in and was unsure if they were even open because there were no other customers. We waited about 5 minutes to be seated which we thought was a while with no one else in the establishment. We got menus and quickly decided what we wanted to drink. We waited another 10 minutes for a waitress to even come take our drink order. She finally came, took our drink order, and we waited... and waited... and waited... there was no one at the bar, and the waitress "disappeared." We finally decided to get up and leave and go elsewhere. The prices seemed spendy- even for a simple burger and the menu didn't have a lot of options of really anything... we will not go back, first impressions are everything and this one sure left a sour taste in our mouth.... read more

You may want to call the next time you decide to eat here. The food is great! The service is great! Bartenders are great. All 5 stars but they never tell you when they will be closed or when there is a "private party"! We are regulars, love the place, love the food and atmosphere, but the owners don't let anyone know when this occurs. It's bad for business. Nothing on their Facebook page, just a sign on their front door saying they are closed, Open sign was OFF. This is the old Michael's on the Course. Since they are under new owners, we thought we'd check it into. Nothing has changed as far as the restaurant inside itself. We were there early on a Friday, so wasn't very busy. Our server was great. We were playing catch up with some friends so she came back several times. Drink,orders were fast. Ok, now onto the food. I ordered the Fettuccine Alfredo (could have added checker steak or scallops, I didn't order anything extra). It was ok at best. Luke warm, not very garlicky (I'm a garlic freak), and instead of grated Parmesan is was shaved and in pretty big shavings. Kinda over powered the whole dish. Came with a salad which was very good. My husband ordered the Walleye Sandwich which came with fries. He said the Walleye was good, however, they forgot his fries. No problem, except they burned the first batch and by the time he got his fries we were finished eating. One friend ordered the Ribeye, which was huge. He ordered it medium to medium well and it was delivered rare. So he sent it back. They threw it back in the grill and made a new plate with fresh sides and took 10% off his dinner for the trouble. Nice gesture. Another friend ordered the Brie Bites and the Pulled Duck Flatbread. She said the bites were good, they were served with a Lingenberry (sp) sauce. The flatbread was also served with this sauce, pulled duck, chunks of apple. Not bad but too sweet for me. All in all it was an ok experience. We decided we would go back, as they are new and probably still working out the bugs, however, we all decided we wouldn't order a meal again, but they do,have some really good sounding appetizers read more

We had dinner on a Sunday night. The restaurant was not busy- there were 4 tables filled when we arrived and 2 had been served. We loved the menu selections so place an order and waited. Our salads were service quickly, dishes cleared. And then we waited. And waited. 53 minutes later our food finally was served. RaIn that time, 3 tables left and another couple arrived so the restaurant was not that busy. We were not offered additional beverages while we waited. When our food arrived, we found it incredibly salty, to the point where we could not finish it. I ordered meatloaf and it was very overdone and tough. My spouse ordered beef ramen and it was also very tough and over salted. We were impressed with the menu, but disappointed in the service and the quaintly. Went on a Friday night for the fish fry. Waited 50 minutes for our food when there was only 4 tables filled. The fish was like rubber! Overcooked and hard. We struggled to cut it. The lemon to put on it was cut so paper thin, it was impossible to squeeze any on the fish. They had 2 pieces of fish very thin with very little breading. The fries had some thick ranch tasting coating that was gross. The coleslaw tasted like red peppers only. Waited 30 minutes to have waitress bring us more fish. ( all you can eat). We each got one piece, again, hard, overcooked . Was never asked if we wanted more fish. Extremely disappointed in the food, especially for the price.
