I have had several occasions to visit recently. Food has been good and consistent. Having tried burgers, sandwiches, entrees, pizza, wings, I would summarize the food this way, straightforward. Everything that I have eaten has been good. Not extra special or amazing, but good and consistent. I have had consistently friendly and helpful servers. I don't personally know anyone who works there but my interactions with staff have all been very friendly. I have eaten here alone and with groups, there is always music or TV sound happening, but it not so loud as to bother all conversation or prevent you from reading. I personally like ambient noise as long as it is not too loud. It is one of the reasons I would go out by myself is to be in that environment. I have to say that this was one of those "never have I ever " experiences! We had to call the restaurant to get service (literally) while we were sitting on their patio, but we're up north and figured we'd just relax and enjoy. However, we also had to call the restaurant while we were there to get service, Still, we're "up north " so trying to "chill". After we were finally served our food (it was a "so-so" meal ) we had to actually call the restaurant yet again to pay the bill! It will be a great story to tell everyone about.....we waited around forever. Stood up and went to get a server to make sure that our bill was paid- which was another ordeal. Recommended by the hotel next door, we left a bit disappointed. Rustic place was about half full of a "locals" crowd. Good live music in the background. Sami, our server did a great job, but unfortunately the kitchen did not back her up. My burger was good, but her salad was not bult to the menu description. She sent is back, asking for the avocados, red onions, and cheese. I wish I could tell you that the food was good, or the drinks were cold, but after waiting for 45 minutes to get someone to wait on us last Friday night, we simply left. 45 minutes to get someone to take a drink order when the place was less than 1/2 full. this is the first time ive ever written a bad review but it is beyond worth it. i made a reservation on wednesday to attend on saturday. when we sat down, a few of us ordered drinks while we waited for the rest of our party. got our drinks and nobody was to be seen again. we decided to move upstairs since there was nobody else in the entire place and waited an hour to order another drink. apparently the first two girls thought it was cute to let us sit with no service from 4-5pm when "our waitress came" the tabs were insanely wrong which i cannot blame our "new waitress" for but instead, the two incompetent ones who didnt bother to figure anything out who are totally to blame. the food was all ice cold and soggy, had to order drinks way in advance knowing we wouldn't get them for a long time. it was miserably hot and i had to ask 4 times for the girl to turn the ceiling fan that was CAKED IN DUST on and she never even did because she didnt know how lol. it was all actually really gross. im ashamed to say i left a tip. i will NEVER bring my friends and family here again. read more

So the Sawmill.... What a place. Talk about your run of the mill kind of atmosphere where bikers, miners and truck drivers wanna show off their battle scars. As you approach this Giant building you don't necessary see a mill but you definitely feel at home to a place like this. It's not fancy but it definitely has a rustic charm about it. Above the bar there is a giant saw blade that you can see has rusted away since it's opening in 1992. I'll get into the history in a bit here. On this very occasion as I write this I was joined by twin friends and insisted I order "the boot" since we are all fire fighters so I did. A giant boot glass filled Castle Danger Cream Ale. How could I resist haha our waitress was very kind, made great recommendations but I just went with some delicious mozzarella sticks. By twin buddy's went with the Lumber jack burger with fries as the other ordered some bbq chicken wings. The food turned out amazing. Truely delicious! I can definitely say that this is a good hang out spot for the guys and girls. Dig up some history and found this out, In 1970 the owner of the original Sawmill had a vision of building a landmark bar and grill constructed of rough cut lumber from local sawmills. In 1970 this idea, "The Sawmill", was complete and the largest bar/restaurant/liquor store north of Hinckley opened its doors. The decor featured local artifacts, antiques, memorabilia and a player piano. A caboose from the "DM&IR" railroad was attached for dining. The Sawmill thrived until it was totally destroyed by fire in 1989. In 1992 the new Sawmill, with a unique new design was opened. The original owner, Andy, at 70 years of age, had completed his vision again. An Iron Range Tradition was restored featuring much of the same decor. Four stars simply for the service we received , our waitress was one of the best we've ever had even when our food was messed up two different times. Absolute horrible service. Sat and waited 40 minutes, then got nothing. Finally one of us from the table got up and complained, and they offered. We had great service at this place. We liked it even more because they had three levels of dining, deck, screened patio and inside. We chose the patio where it wasn't as windy. All three dining selections were covered so the rain that was falling didn't dampen our dining experience. Broad food selections. The Hawaiian pizza (flat bread) was marginally acceptable but the added chicken pretty much ruined it. Imagine grocery store freezer section frozen breaded chicken nuggets that have been heated and reheated in an air fryer. That's what you get. I was greeted by the friendly staff as soon as I walked into the door, and had my beverage within minutes as well. The menu offers a lot of diversity, as well as some classic comforts. Food came out within 20 minutes of ordering, hot and fresh. The overall cleanliness of the establishment and the friendliness received from all staff was superb.
