While the people are friendly, the experience left me wishing I'd chosen another mortgage provider. The good faith quote I received ended up having extra fees and no where near what I originally signed up to receive. While my interest rate is now lower, it feels as though I paid extra unexpected fees which basically meant I bought a lower rate. The sad thing is, I should have listened to another bank when they told me "they are making you purchase the low rate and your contract will change". I thought he was simply trying to get my business - lesson learned. I also felt no one paid attention to my questions until I mentioned I was going to use a different bank. I felt too deep in the process to change, but wish I had. Would I recommend this bank for mortgage lending? I'd say buyer beware. Will I use again? Definitely not. read more

I just did a refi with Northpointe. I'm on the other side of the country, so I was nervous about using them. The gal that helped me is named Kimberly, and she was wonderful. Every communication from her was clear and concise, and she also answered a question I sent to her late at night (regarding a poor review here on Yelp, saying that they don't do electronic payments - they DO, by the way). We got an awesome rate, and everything went smoothly. We were going out of town right around closing time, and they worked around our trip - also offered to have the notary meet us on our trip if we wanted. I received my first bill, and I can snail mail, pay by phone, or pay on their website. They also offer automatic payments. So far I am very pleased, and thrilled to have a lower interest rate. read more

I received a great refinance rate from Northpointe Bank and was looking forward to refinancing with them. I had several questions before submitting the application; however, the loan officer never replied to my multiple emails and phone call. This is unprofessional and unacceptable. I ended up with northpointe bank after my mortgage was sold from the original company. This was the worst mortgage company I've ever had. They do not accept electronic payments, so you have to mail a check. Since I live on the west coast, it takes almost a week for the check to get there. One month they called me on the 2nd of the month telling me my mortgage payment was late. I told them that if I could pay online it would have been in on time, I can't help if the mail was slow. I've never had a company call and hassle me one day after a payment was due, especially when the grace period was the 15th of the month. They were completely rude and vaguely threatening about the late payment. I refinanced and was glad to be rid of them, but had an unhappy surprise when I got a letter a few weeks ago saying that they had made a mistake and overstated my mortgage interest, so they had to issue a corrected 1098. Since I already filed my taxes based on the first statement they sent, I had to file amnended federal and state returns, which I've never had to do before because most banks aren't incompetent like northpointe is. When I called and emailed the head of their loan department asking them to reimburse me for the additional tax preparation fee, she refused, saying they did not have to do that legally. As this was their fault it would have been a small thing for them to do, but if course they flat out refused. Beware this bank...their customer service is horrible and they can't even do the most basic tax paperwork, putting the burden to fix their mistake on the customer. read more

I was a customer that is retired with nearly $2M in asset but they put me and my husband through hell to qualify for a simply $100K land loan. they made us feel like we were money laundering and had to show every single dime where it came from and where it went to. They forced us to make withdrawals we didnt need to from our IRAs. It was the worst experience every and we have been getting loans for 40+ years with one of the best Credit ratings you could have. We ended up telling them to take a hike....I would NOT recommend this bank to anyone. read more

My initial lending experience was ok, but more recently it has been terrible. They failed to send payment for property taxes to my county, they admitted fault, but then continue to screw up. They sent the wrong amount to me instead of county. THEN, they said...oh, will you mail that back to us? It has been a month, taxes are now overdue and shows up on pulic record, and they still have nothing to fix the problem. For a process that is supposed to be automatic for the customer, it has been ridiculous. They have lost my trust. read more

DO NOT use Northpointe Bank for a home loan or to refinance a home loan. We have NEVER had a problem EVER getting a home loan. We have Northpointe Bank right now for our home loan & wanted to refinance since the rates are so low. Well, since we didn't give our representative the last item he needed within 3 days, he claimed the underwriters wanted everything we had already given to him. That is ridiculous!!! I got a home mortgage loan from Northpointe. They have a 5 STAR rating on Bankrate.com. Their rates are the lowest, and their customer service was fantastic. Our loan officer, Tim Tusing, kept us well informed every step of the way, and responded to our questions quickly even on the weekends. When we had problems he helped us through them. There were no surprises. I would definitely use them again. read more

I agree with other reviews that this bank is a nightmare. When your mortgage is sold to them there is little you can do about their mistakes. You have to watch very carefully and when they make errors they act as though it's your fault. I even brought an error to their attention and they acknowledged it but could not answer simple questions concerning how to correct it. They just kept saying you owe us. They don't even rerun an incorrect escrow analysis but tell you to formally request it in writing. You send a letter and get dumped onto a Vice President of the bank. She writes emails and makes phone calls to you. Finally she says she will consult with the escrow department. WHAT?? That's was where the error originated. Why didn't she read the letters written or pay attention to the requests made by phone calls. Also I just survived Hurricane Irma and I have to spend time explaining the mistake and going to a lawyer and an accountant to straighten out their error. Can't sue banks. They're immune--remember the mortgage/housing debacle. Check upper management salaries--WOW!! Consumers don't stand a chance. Very sad. Shame on north pointe bank. read more

I made the mistake of refinancing through LoanDepot who immediately sold my loan to Northpointe. Both companies provided confusing information as to where my first payment was to go. When I tried to get online to make my payment Northpointe's website is unintuitive and the documentation provided with my statement is poorly written and hard to follow. It took me several tries to get to the correct place and set up my account. I went to set up automatic payments for the future and was surprised that it was going to take my first payment in December. Today I was looking at my bank balance to confirm the payment had been made and nothing. I managed to get logged back into my Northpointe account only to see a payment on 12/9 and a reversal on 12/10. No communication was sent and fortunately I have until the 16th before I get late fees. I sent a message through their website as I am in a different time zone and their hours don't work for me. I am far from impressed. read more

I took out a VA loan with this bank last year and had to escrow property taxes. I received the tax bill a month ago and thought this to be odd. The bank should have received it. I called Northpoint Bank and they assured me that the taxes would be taken care of. Today I have been slapped with a 10% late fee because they have not been paid. read more

Hi, as first time homeowners going through refinancing amid a pandemic, we were confused and nervous on the process. We refinanced through Northpointe bank and Kimberly Gierescher is our loan officer. We are SO glad she was assigned to us as we had so many questions. Kimberly was amazing. She took time with both my husband and I and I know we asked the same questions a few times. There were technical errors too which Kimberly assigned and handled like a pro. She was SO responsive and that is exactly what you want in a loan officer. We have no idea how she was able to communicate so effectively and so quickly with a 6 hour time difference. We know she was extremely busy yet she made us feel like her only client. It was unreal. She reworked numbers and was on top of rates, and dates, it was so helpful. Northpointe Banks online interface and app is also outstanding and made it easy to communicate with piles of paperwork very effectively. Seriously, by the end, we were shocked how streamlined the process was and it was all because of Kimberly. We absolutely recommend her and don't hesitate with going with Northpointe Bank, their rates and service is outstanding! Thank you Northpointe and Kimberly for being so awesome!! read more

Nothing but problems with my mortgage servicing. Inaccurate statements, tax forms, and payments not credited properly. My taxes weren't paid out of my impound account. Statements show up days before due date. Dealing with their customer service is a nightmare. I can't get anyone to help me. I call constantly and am told somebody will look into it and call me back. I had a smooth process with Northpointe Bank, however, the title company they use has been a nightmare. I've been waiting almost 3 months for my reimbursement ($700) extra money they needed before closing to pay the tax bill, however, it was already paid. I've left dozens of voice messages at ValuAmerica, the title company, and sent dozens of emails. They do not respond nor care to address the issue. This makes Northpointe Bank look bad if they are going to utilize this company. I don't see how the title company can legally hold on to your money and not address the issue. When I tell people about this issue the first thing they ask is what bank I refinanced with because they don't want to be in this situation. read more

Tim Tusing did my refi last year and everything went well, so I started referring my friends and family to him. My buddy Dae, who has a little bit of a language barrier, asked if I could help him with his refi. I contacted Tim for a quote and the rates were low at the time, so I contacted my brother Tony to get in on the low rates as well. In the beginning of February, I was working on Dae's loan while Tony was working on his. Everything was processing smoothly, until Tim contacted me and not Tony, to let me know that he is dropping Tony's loan due to HOA not responding. According to Tim, to continue, Tony needs to get involved by contacting the HOA. So Tony called the HOA and was able to get ahold of the HOA Certs. More information will be explained further down involving how Tony received the Certs which Tim's coordinator failed to do so. On March 14th, Tim stated that Tony only has one more item that is needed to complete his loan, the HOA Master insurance. I asked Tim if I could pay for it. So I called Tim's coordinator Sara which I did on March 16th to give my credit card info over the phone with her. While providing my info, Sara mentioned that Tony called this morning but she didn't get a chance to call him back yet. Few days later got this email from Tim: March 18th, 10:54am: "Sara tried your credit card however it was declined. Please advise...thank you." March 18th, 12:39am: "Hi Sara, Just left you a message. Please call me when you can, Thanks." March 21st @ 5:49am from Sara: "Hi Scott, I received your message this morning from Friday. Please call me when you can.. Thank You!" So I called back right away. While we were on the phone, we figured out what happened. Sara admitted that she wrote one of my credit card numbers incorrectly. March 21st @ 7:50am from Sara: "Hi Scott, I attached a copy of the certificate and paid receipt. Thank You!" March 21st @ 8:03am from Tim: "Hi Scott, I would advise getting this straighten out with Sara asap. If we have to extend again, Tony will be responsible for the extension again. We are not going to be paying for any further extensions when it's been blatant on his behalf not to respond. Thank You!" NEED to straighten this out with Sara??? Did Tim not read Sara's email (His email was CC'd by the way) or even understand it? Why would Tony respond to you if you have not contacted him since the HOA Certs fiasco ( again, will explain later) . I still wanted to give Tim the benefit of the doubt, so I called him right after his "accusing" email. Speaking with Tim was pointless. He would not acknowledge any wrongdoing for these delays. Let's backtrack a bit to March 15th leading to these emails above. Tim phoned me letting me know that Tony's locked rate is about to expire and need to pay about $800 to extend it. After talking to Tim, the HOA issue took a very long time. At that moment I felt it wasn't Tim or Tony's fault for the delays. It appeared to be the HOA at fault for not responding back in a timely manner, in which I had no choice, but to ask Tim to extent the loan. I notified Tony regarding the extra $800 which he expressed deep disappointment and told me an interesting information that it was more Tim's staffs fault for failing on contacting the HOA on a professional level. Tony explained that when he called the same HOA phone number that he PROVIDED to Tim, the HOA phone line has a phone menu system stated specific instruction how to reach their main office. Tony called the Main office phone line which he got from listening to HOAs phone messaging system and they were able to take care of it immediately. After receiving this new information from Tony and myself being familiar with Tim by working with past and current loans, I felt comfortable ASKING, not demanding, Tim if he could waive Tony's extra fee of $800. Below is Tim email response: March16th: "Hi Scott, I did ask however we had already covered 30 days of extension on our dime. Typically we only cover 15 days however since you had referred Tony and Dae they had agreed to additional 15 days. I tried my friend!!" Since I personally don't do loans, I asked Tim, "If you gave Tony extra 30 days of an extension on top of the 30 days escrow, that would be a total 2 months". Ironically, Tim didn't respond to this particular question and instead, his attitude turned unprofessional. In the end of all this, Tim pretty much said it's all Tony's fault. The only thing that is clear to me is Tim is totally dishonest and very unprofessional. The only thing that is obvious here is Tim won't close the loan until he gets the $800. Even though I had already resolved this with Sara, but Tim had to fabricate this issue to justify his actions. Tony decided to pay just to the close the loan. The loan closed March 28th within the extra 30 days, but of course that was just a lie from Tim. If you took away their mistakes, it would have closed on time. I have no problem using Northpointe again, just not with Tim Tusing! read more

Run and run far away!! Northpointe Bank is the worst lender I have ever had. I have had several unfortunate run-ins with this bank in only a matter of a few months. First they told me they transferred my loans (first and second) but they only transferred the first so I set-up auto pay with the new mortgage holder. Northpointe was still holding my second with a very small monthly payment. They never called me or contacted me in any manner to tell me they had not received my payment. I ended up getting a 30 day late which I have never had before. My spouse and I own multiple properties so we do have different mortgages we manage and we have never had an issue or a late pay. Now I find out that because Northpointe is holding my second mortgage they have force placed insurance on my property. I figured out last month that my insurance which was set-up by Northpointe Insurance Agency was cancelled after they had already "helped" me get insurance on another policy which was screwed up and didn't even have enough to cover all of the structures on my property after my roofs were totaled out. The moral of the story is to run and find a better lender. I have never been so disgusted with a mortgage holder. They are unwilling to help and they cite policies as to the reason they are not helping you. Very disappointing company. They have good rates but believe me the rates are not worth the trouble. read more

5 Stars to Northpointe Bank! About 4 years ago I moved my checking account to this bank. Unlike most banks, Northpointe's checking is free AND YOU GET PAID INTEREST if you use the account. Most other banks will charge a fee for your checking unless you have a certain balance or other accounts with the bank. Most credit unions are just free or do not pay this high rate of interest. Not only is Northponite's account free without any balance or deposit requirements, the account pays an interest rate higher than money market and CD accounts! You basically just need to swipe your debit card at least 15 times per month. We typically use our debit card about 50 times per month for our day-to-day spending. For big ticket purchases we use our credit card to get the airline miles. If you keep $10k in this checking account, Northpointe is currently paying 5% which is $500 per year you earn on your money - No other bank or credit union is paying that high of a rate. The big banks pay nothing and do not need to because customers flock to their brand. I prefer a bank that knows me. This bank does it right, their customer service is not a big company call center either. I usually text rather than call and they are always quick to help. Thanks for being awesome! read more

NorthPoint contracted with a horrible, incompetent, and unprofessional appraiser. The appraiser used the selling information for the previous buyer, a sale that took place long before I purchased the home. When I brought this to Jason Smith's attention, he said oh well it probably wouldn't have worked out any way and then ceased all contact with me. Now I am out $400 for an incomplete and inaccurate appraisal. read more

It took 2 months to close a simple refi with high credit scores and no debt/income issues at all, good income and no late payments, after being told initially that it would take a month. Getting updates during that 2nd month was like pulling hen's teeth, and we were never given an adequate explanation on why it took so long; I finally got some movement when I went to the originator's supervisor; but now that the refi is closed, we keep getting late payment notices for the previous mortgage - turns out Northpointe never got the payment check for for that mortgage from their title company that they sent us to for closing. read more

I would never in my life or the next use Northpointe bank for ANY financing. They were difficult to work with, unresponsive in request for information and follow up, and totally unprofessional.
