Poor customer service. They screwed up my appointment (scheduled it for a shorter time slot than it…read moreneeded) and didn't figure it out until 2 hours before the appointment time. They charge patients a $50 cancellation fee if made less than 24 hours in advance. They denied my request for a $50 discount because they violated their own policy. Why is their time worth more than mine? I cleared my schedule for the appointment and now have to rearrange for the rescheduled appointment.

I'm going to preface my review with this - as someone with asthma, long covid and other health…read moreissues, I have been to many many doctor's appointments throughout my life, and feel like I have a good idea of what's normal and what's not. I was not happy with my experience here today. When I made this appointment a week ago as a new patient, I was *not* told to arrive 10-15 min early like many other offices request (I know this because I specifically write this down in my calendar when it's the case).  I parked 5 min before my appointment - so yes, cutting it closer than I usually do, but considering it was a suburban office with a large parking lot, I thought it'd be fine. Turns out, the entrance to the office is not what is said on Google maps, which is right next to the Petco. The entrance is actually to the left of the HomeGoods on the strip. This would've been a nice-to-know when making the appointment over the phone, but it didn't really bother me until later.  I checked my watch when I got into the elevator, and it was my appointment time of 1pm. Since I was only going up one floor, I can't have gotten to the front desk any later than 1:01pm. During check-in, there were issues with the computer while scanning my license and insurance card that the person at reception apologized for - again, this itself did not bother me at all until I was sat down in the exam room. As soon as I was sitting in the exam room (1:07pm), I was told that I would only have one of the two exams I requested when I booked the appointment, and that I had to choose between an annual skin check OR acne issues. The doctor's assistant said it was because I was late and the appointments are only slotted for 10 min. I told her that I was in the elevator at 1pm sharp, and she shook her head at me and said that couldn't be. Was she counting the time it took to check me in? I have no idea.  At the end of my appointment, I repeated my frustrations about the appointment to the doctor, and: - The doctor said that there's a 15 min grace period but they can't accommodate more than that. So even if I was 15 minutes late, shouldn't I have been able to have the full exam I booked in the first place? - Next time they would slot my appointment for 20 min so that we can address both acne and the skin check - why wasn't my appointment this time scheduled for 20 when it was known that I wanted both exams to begin with? TLDR: I'm frustrated because something really doesn't add up. I was also never made aware before my appointment that if I got to the desk at 1:01pm instead of 1pm, I would be penalized. I honestly can't even comment on the appointment or prescribed treatment itself because I feel like I was gaslit on their policies. But the few minutes with the doctor seemed fine itself, which is the only reason I'm leaving more than 1 star.

This review is solely based upon my experience with PA Karen Smith. I don't disagree with others…read morewho posted that the staff at the front desk could be on the friendlier side, but when I'm going to have a service done that could potentially save me from developing skin cancer, or cause any kind of disfigurement to my face, I would happily overlook these small inconveniences when it comes to the quality of the work being performed. I am a new patient at this practice and make well over a 40 minute commute for one reason : Karen Smith. With three kids under 5, the thing I'm lacking most is time; therefore, the fact that I go so far out of my way when I'm surrounded by other dermatologists much closer to home speaks volumes when it comes to Karen's credentials. Years ago I made the decision to begin preventative Botox. I am incredibly neurotic when it comes to two things: my hair and my skin. Once I made the decision to get Botox, I spent countless hours reading reviews and looking at pictures to find the person I trusted enough to have the knowledge and experience to perform this procedure. I wasn't going to just let anyone inject a needle full of Botox into my face. I met Karen when she was working at another practice and instantly knew I had made the right decision. Karen was patient, intelligent, and honest when it came to my expectations. Unlike many in her profession, Karen took the time to talk to me about the procedure and answered the plethora of questions I threw at her. She never pressured me to do more and even encouraged me to go for a more natural look. She never tried to sell me on additional products or services. It also didn't hurt that she is flawlessly beautiful. I have never been disappointed with any work that Karen has performed on me. I was so impressed with her that I decided to switch from my old dermatologist to use her. My skin has never never looked better. I always make sure to have her look at my moles as well. She is extremely thorough in her inspections and I feel confident that I'm in good hands each time I leave her. In today's society where places to Botox have become pretty much the equivalent of your local Starbucks, it's refreshing to have someone who is so passionate and professional. Karen genuinely cares about each and every one of her patients. You don't just have to take my word for it. These days it's difficult to know who to trust when it comes to your health and well-being. I challenge you to go see Karen and experience her services for yourself. I can promise you that she will not disappoint. I'm so confident in her services that you know where to find me if you feel that any part of this review isn't 100 percent accurate and honest. Good people deserve positive recognition and Karen is one of those people. They say beauty is only skin deep. I say that it doesn't hurt if that skin just happens to look good too.
