I have been buying plants and supplies here for many, many years and I feel the prices are much better and the service is good. The place is huge, so they have a very broad selection and I have had good success with the plants I have purchased. On Mothers Day eve I encountered rude, unfriendly and unhelpful employees all over this place and miserable looking as well. It was early and I was excited- I will never come here again. Had heard this was the place to purchase plants. I guess that's subjective. Prices weren't terrific either. I'll stick to Woodys, Family Tree, Gwinnett Tech and local plant sales. My garden club had a plant sale and we were a friendly group. How could we not be?!?! And the lady at the register another tragic human. As many reviewers have noted, the women at checkout (who also answer phone calls) are CONSISTENTLY unpleasant to deal with. Not friendly, disinterested and generally rude in demeanor. It's always this way and yes, an unfortunate way to end a shopping experience. This is the only reason I'm removing one star from my review. Otherwise, I have nothing but wonderful things to say about this nursery. Their selection is expansive and constantly changing throughout the season. The plants are healthy and in my experience, more reasonably priced than other garden centers I've been to. Most impressively, the employees are so knowledgeable! There always seems to be someone wandering around the garden area who is available to give advice, share their knowledge and even introduce you to a new variety or species of plant. Their friendliness and willingness to answer questions is in such a stark contrast to the rudeness at checkout that I'm willing to continue supporting this business. read more

I don't know why I always forget that this nursery is here, especially since I pass it every day....but after going to several places looking for veggie pants I finally thought to go look here. They had great selection and great looking plants. Got almost everything we needed. Was surprised they had chicken coups and horse and other feed there as well. This is a large garden center with multiple "houses" of beautiful plants. Houses are shade or sun, giving an idea of what exposure the plants prefer. Wagons are available to transport garden materials, and there are people to HELP. Prices are reasonable. read more

A wonderful treasure in our area! The selection and health of plants and things like mulch and compost are phenomenal and the prices are often better than discount stores. The staff is great for advice. Things bottled in the store like fertilizer and weed killer can bit a bit more pricey, but it is so much more convenient and pleasurable to come here I usually also purchase them here anyway. Items often in short supply elsewhere (even online), like a wide selection of composts and vermiculite, are always in stock here, and for a good price, I don't know how they do it, but I'm glad they do! read more

Great experience at Northside. A friend of mine mentioned this nursery up in Sugar Hill when I said we were looking for a new tree. We live in Roswell, so it was a bit of a drive, but we wanted a Red Maple to replace one we had cut down, so we gave it a shot. We found one we liked, and it was close to half the price some of the bigger named nurseries would charge. It was a huge tree, probably 12-15 ft, and in a 30 gallon bin; so too big for us to get back home. We talked to Eric who will deliver and plant for you with a separate cost. Eric delivered on time, planted, and it looks great. He answered all our maintenance questions on the new maple, and diagnosed some issues we were having with a Japanese Maple we purchased from another nursery. Will definitely be making the drive back here for any other needs. Certainly worth the price, selection and knowledge. read more

We just visited this place yesterday to buy plants for our yard. We were fortunate enough to meet Mason and he was SO helpful. He knew what plants would work best for the space and the amount of sun. You could tell it was his passion. I hope NGC knows what a great employee he is! We bought even more than planned due to his advice and expertise. Great place! Inexpensive but healthy (!) and endless (!) varieties of perennials, annuals, trees, shrubs, daylilies, ferns, hostas, grasses, ground cover, etc. Their staff is very helpful and knowledgeable--they can take you exactly to it. They may not have the exact cultivar but you'll find something very close. They also carry good mulch and a variety of plant and garden food, amendments, and pesticides at a competitive price. They also sell freshly grown/harvested veggies!! We are building our garden, so we shop almost every weekend. read more

Yes, they have some nice plants at Northside Garden Center, but I had an unfortunate experience here a couple days ago....The lady who was at front desk must have been having a bad day to be SO disinterested in helping me when I asked for a recommendation on fertilizers. I tried to speak to her again at the counter when making the purchases , and she never once smiled or even looked at me. UGH. I'm not going to air dirty laundry here, but suffice to say...she was rude enough that I wont EVER give them my business again. Just went here to get a recommendation for replacement plant for the front of the house. In a slightly at the main desk for help. He first said we could remove some soil to try and keep planet life. Thank her and said but we didn't really like the planet wanted to replace it. She said any kind of holly would work. I told her I didn't like Holly. She then said there are many types of Holly. I said I just told you I didn't like Holly. Can you give another suggestion? She said well many things at work. I'm thinking to myself if I knew the answer I wouldn't be talking to you, help me. I wasted time and money on an employee's suggestion for a weed killer and want to warn people about this company's business tactics. This was very discouraging because I bought plants and other products there before. I had to use their weed killer and scheduled usage exactly as instructed. I am familiar with this process and had good results with previous products from Home Depot and Lowe's. This company's product did not work at all. I brought the product back and tried to explain my situation but was interrupted and told that they will not exchange or return their product before I ever finished explaining my situation. They told me to contact anyone else except them. The product was $20 dollars and not that expensive but the fact that I wasted my time and did everything that the employee told me and they didn't even bother to help me or show appropriate customer service that I am taking time out of my day to write this. I was looking for some Leyland Cypresses and the people at Northside Garden Center were so helpful. As soon as I walked in, someone asked me what I was looking for, walked me over to the Leylands, loaded them into a cart for me, and after paying helped me load them into my car. That is amazing customer service! In addition to that, the Leylands were much cheaper than at Lowes or Pikes. They were also much better quality than at Lowes. This has officially become the place I will do all my landscaping/garden shopping. They also have an amazing selection. read more

I recently brought some of my roses in as they had some sort of bug or disease on them. A gentleman that was up front at the time obviously recognized i was going to need some help approached me and asked how he could help me. I told him about my problem and he inspected my roses and recommended i try a fungicide. It worked like a charm and within about a week or so i could see a noticeable difference in the health of my roses. These guys obviously know their stuff. Went back in a few days later and bought some very healthy looking annuals for my flower bed. Again, someone was out there to meet me and asked if i needed help finding anything. Friendly, helpful, and very informative both times i've been in there. Very reasonable prices as well. Great place to shop for your home and garden. read more

I'm relatively new to the area and somewhat of a novice gardener/landscaper but would rather do it myself than pay a lawn care company with mediocre reviews to most likely do an average job at best at maintaining my lawn and shrubs. I'm usually skeptical at shopping at smaller mom and pop stores as they'll usually price gouge you on like items that you'll find at big box retailers such as Home Depot and Lowe's. However, that is certainly not the case here. While Home Depot and Lowe's offer slightly lower prices on SOME mulches and shrubs, cost is completely secondary to overall product knowledge and a great customer service experience in my book. I can't remember one time while shopping at HD or Lowe's that a representative in the garden center was even within shouting distance, and those that were usually sprinted by you in a flash as they were too busy tasking to take time for customers. Whereas when I show up at Northside Garden Center, I no more than take one step out of my car when there is an employee waiting there to greet me and ask me if I need any assistance. I was blown away by such customer service. Furthermore, while attempting to revamp my somewhat bare and lackluster landscaping at my home, I had an employee walk me around the entire facility showing me different options and offering advice as to what would look best and serve the best function in each location of my home. Each employee I walked past as I was continuing to browse their selection would immediately stop what they were doing to ask if I need assistance. INCREDIBLE. Their job wasn't done after helping me select some shrubs however, as they loaded them into my truck as well and gave me detailed but simple instructions on planting and caring for these shrubs. Weeks later I returned to inquire on some lawn care tips and they gave me a month-by-month program to follow for my specific grass and I can honestly say my lawn has never looked better. If you're truly a DIY'er like me, there is no better place to shop than here for all your lawn and gardening needs. Their prices are very competitive and the quality of their shrubs and flowers are incredible. You can certainly tell they take well care and maintain their products. If you know what you want and you're looking for the lowest price it MAY pay to look here. If home depot or lowes has the same item on sale then they will have better pricing. HOWEVER if you need help, value customer service, or you may need to return something--- this is not the business to give your money to. I went to NGC because Pike's and Lowe's did not have what I was looking for ( and they said so). At NGC they recommended a plant and when I got home and looked it up....it was not even CLOSE to the criteria I had shared. So I went back the next day...the folks up front-no effort to help. I asked to speak to the manager and he was less no help. This guy, who is responsible for the business, did not even stop pushing his racks around to ask what happened!!! He could not have cared less and made NO effort to make things right! Unbelievable. So, as you will read from the other reviews, this is not the place to shop if you need or value service--- for 'grab n' go' maybe-get help/service? no. Until it starts to affect their bottom line (and based on their reviews) it appears they are in no rush to fix their customer experience problem . So shop elsewhere. read more
