This review is for the event only…read more Fantastic event put on today by the USO. Open only to Active Duty, dependents, or retired military. They brought four USA Olympic swimmers in for the USO Handshake Tour. Swimmers Ryan Lochte, Tyler Clary, Anthony Ervin and Tim Phillips participated in the event. The 4 USA National swimmers conducted a clinic for both children and adult swimmers over two sessions. The swimmers had a blast learning new techniques that will have them race even faster. Kudos to the USO.

You know those little black lane lines on the bottom of the pool in each lane and the cross-hairs or T's at the end of each wall? Apparently, this pool went the camouflaged route and made the lines light gray, almost the color of the floor of the pool. If you're zooming along and not paying attention, the end of the wall can appear a little faster than you'd like for a well-prepped and relaxed flip turn. The facilities are fairly clean - I think there are nine showers (three open, four with curtain and two handi-accessible) The Tidewater Aquatic Club (http://www.swimtac.com/SubTabGeneric.jsp?team=vatac&_stabid_=26369) meets here 5:30-7:30 if you're interested in joining a swim club.

I do wish they made it brighter or used brighter balls, but, overall, it was a great time. The staff and the other players were all very nice and welcoming throughout all of the games. The center itself looks really nice. Plenty of work out equipment, and the pool area looks like a blast. More like a waterpark! The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful thoughout our visit. The locker rooms are really nice, too. Very spacious center that seems to offer a lot for everyone. In the area? This review isn't about the Kroc Center's values; it's about the process…read more Before submitting a rental request, I carefully read everything available on the website, the event booklet, and the FAQs. Because there were no photos or detailed descriptions of the event spaces, I stopped by in person to understand what would be possible. The front desk staff was kind and showed me around, and I found a room that felt like a great fit for a welcome gathering for the growing Working Families Party in Virginia. I submitted my request in late December. I expected things to move slowly because of the holidays, but when I hadn't heard back by January 5, I called to follow up. I was told my application had been received, everything looked good, and I received verbal confirmation that we could host the event pending one final approval. I followed up by email to confirm details and waited. After six days with no response, I followed up again by email. Two days later, I called and learned the Sales & Event Coordinator was out due to medical issues. That is completely understandable. However, since final approval was supposedly with someone above her, I didn't understand why no one else could give clarity. I even offered to share my contact information with the events director or whoever was responsible for final approval. Two days later, on a Friday afternoon, I received a call letting me know the event was not approved due to its political affiliation. I understand that not every organization allows political gatherings. What's frustrating is that this wasn't communicated upfront or handled quickly. Instead, I spent 21 days waiting for confirmation, only to be denied three weeks before my event, leaving me scrambling to find a new location for a Sunday afternoon gathering. If political events aren't allowed, that should be clearly stated on the website or addressed early in the review process. A simple, transparent policy would have saved me a lot of time and stress.

The student rec center is a HUGE sports center that caters to students and members of the community…read moreof all abilities. All activities are scheduled so don't forget to check the ODU web site before venturing over. From the pool to the locker rooms everything is kept neat and clean. There is ample parking here but it may be a short walk to the facility. There is so much to see and do at the SRC. There is always a practice, or game happening. The students, employees, and volunteers are friendly and very helpful if you need help navigating the SRC. Happy Sporting Yeeps!!!

I'm not sure if there's a parking lot near this place but I just park at the garage where the parking office is, it should be a 5-10 min walk(Walking with friends talking gossip stuff maybe 20 mins lol). The check-in process was fast, for first-timers, you'll have to go to the desl and they'll show you how to register, as I remember you have to put your hands on the check-in thing 3 times then you're good to go. Well they'll teach you. After that you just have to punch in your UIN then put your hands on the check-in thing then you're good to go. I didn't have time to use the machines but they look amazing and new, and there is a big variety of machines. There's also a track on the secomd floor for people to jog. And there's a swimming pool, a climbing wall(not always open, look for the schedule online), many rooms for classes(some of them are free, look for them online), squash rackets etc. There's a place where you can rent all the equipment to play, I came here to play basketball so I rent a basketball, and it is a Nike. The reason I took one star off is because of the basketball court. Although it is huge and I like how they put a thing to block the farthest court so the intense games on the other side won't worry about us the chill people having our ball rolling into their court, the floor is slippery, which means it is dirty. The floor is also weird because the ball won't bounce back, I guess they are some cheap materials. Overall, it is a good recreation center to workout, especially it's free for students so you cannot ask for more.

The pool is very well maintained and deceiving. It was built in the early-mid 60's, but sports an upgraded score board for swim meets.. There is a balcony area for spectators that has bench seating. The balcony is used for any swim meets in the facility and is part of the old area. Locker rooms are available which begins the new section of the building along with the Rec Center. Parking is reserved in the outside lots, however meter parking is also available. The chlorine utilized in the pool is UV, or ultraviolet which is a cleaner type of material than regular chlorine used in most public pools. You will not have the heavy smell of traditional chlorinated pools. During the ODU swim season it is reserved early AM (unsure when they conclude) and weekdays 3-5 PM. Tidewater Aquatic Club (TAC) has the pool reserved on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 5-8 PM. Parking is reserved in the outside lots, however meter parking is also available. I will add photos of the pool another time, I was not allowed to take photo's while TAC had swimmers in the pool. In the Summer the pool is utilized for ODU Swim camps and Big Blue Camps. It has been long speculated that a new pool will be built on campus, at this point there is no time table. However, the area where a new pool would be built is across the street from the current facility most likely. Cross you fingers at some time in the next 5 years ODU will be able to sport a brand new aquatics facility.
