Memberships are available at the Individual, Couple and Family Rates with Guest Passes available for purchase by members. There is a Senior Discount. The location is in the Pembroke Meadows neighborhood off Independence Boulevard. Before the Bayside Recreation Center was built it was the swimming choice for many residents of Bayside with children and teens. Parents spent hours t by the pool even though it was well staffed with lifeguards. It was a great place for kids to swim and socialize with their friends. It was fun for parents to meet and socialize on the pool deck, Pembroke Meadows Marlins is the swim team for the Center. It's a great way for kids to learn swim competition and develop their skills in the different strokes. Swim meets were held early in the morning on weekends. The pool is closed during this time. My son developed excellent swim skills during the time period when he was young and we were members. The early morning swim meet times were tough though for this night owl. :) It's hard for many Bayside residents to envision a time before the Bayside Rec Center was built. Pembroke Meadows filled the swimming void during that time. Last year I was watching my son and grandson swimming from the bleachers at the pool. I met a man who was waiting for his Grandson to finish swim team practice. I told him my son had been on the swim team at Pembroke Meadows. He said that his was also. Time had passed. Generations had changed. The kids that swam at Pembroke Meadows then now have children of their own. Thank you Pembroke Meadows Pool & Swim Team for the years of fun. A special thanks go out for the skills my son learned on the swim team. He has passed them on to his son.

This place is just a gym with too many rules. Here's what I've been asked to stop doing or even leave for: Swimming too slowly in the pool lanes Not playing tennis in the tennis court (my child and I were the only ones there, and we were playing) Bringing a child younger than 9 or 14 onto the track Playing basketball with a basketball brought from home. All the others are ALWAYS taken. They confiscated my ball. Going the wrong way in the pool. The lifeguard didn't realize that going against the current is a form of exercise. Walking the track instead of running Stopping next to the track Sitting on the exercise equipment. It had a chair that I chose to sit on for two minutes. No one was around. Today, two fellow members kicked me out because I had flip-flops on. They were right about it being against the rules, but it just reminded me of the pervasive culture of entitlement and snobbery that exists at this location. For context, I have memory issues, which is why I had flip-flops on at the gym.

Because there were no photos or detailed descriptions of the event spaces, I stopped by in person to understand what would be possible. The front desk staff was kind and showed me around, and I found a room that felt like a great fit for a welcome gathering for the growing Working Families Party in Virginia. I submitted my request in late December. I expected things to move slowly because of the holidays, but when I hadn't heard back by January 5, I called to follow up. I was told my application had been received, everything looked good, and I received verbal confirmation that we could host the event pending one final approval. I followed up by email to confirm details and waited. After six days with no response, I followed up again by email. Two days later, I called and learned the Sales & Event Coordinator was out due to medical issues. That is completely understandable. However, since final approval was supposedly with someone above her, I didn't understand why no one else could give clarity. I even offered to share my contact information with the events director or whoever was responsible for final approval. Two days later, on a Friday afternoon, I received a call letting me know the event was not approved due to its political affiliation. I understand that not every organization allows political gatherings. What's frustrating is that this wasn't communicated upfront or handled quickly. Instead, I spent 21 days waiting for confirmation, only to be denied three weeks before my event, leaving me scrambling to find a new location for a Sunday afternoon gathering. If political events aren't allowed, that should be clearly stated on the website or addressed early in the review process. A simple, transparent policy would have saved me a lot of time and stress.

He now swims year around at the Princess Anne Y and I find myself back at Trashmore today which seems odd. Tide Swimming continues to use this location for age-group swimmers. The Trashmore YMCA could be the oldest at the Beach. It most certainly is the most central. Located off I-264 and I'm sure you pass it often and wonder how to access. There are two entry points off Independence. Southern and Edwin both take you into the Y. Parking is typically adequate, but usually full in front. The only way to enter is the front. The parking lot and walk up often has debris like it did today. This Y features an indoor and outdoor pool which is my primary reason for coming with my son who is a club swimmer. The 6 lane 25 meter indoor is old and rough, but they keep the water clean. Maintenance is an issue. A lot of rust can be seen including an overhead roof access that's a rusty mess. There is spectator seating to watch lessons. I believe all lessons are conducted in this pool. A small youth locker room off deck as well as an adult locker room. In the past they have been challenged on cleanliness. The outdoor 8 lane 25 yard recreation pool also has a small adjacent water park only used in warm months. This is the pool that my son would mainly practice in. It's in great shape and swim is year around when bubbled in the Fall and removed in Spring. There are no restrooms off deck. Other programming I'm familiar with is Spin and Yoga, but they have much more. Cardio and weight rooms are divided. The Trashmore Y has several classrooms that are used for programming. One of the most popular features of the center is childcare. The final aspect of my write up highlights staff that I have encountered over three years. This includes front desk check-in and aquatics. I have been very pleased with their professionalism, friendliness and helpfulness. Lots of examples of going above and beyond for our family. I think a 3.5 suits them, but rounding down due to aging of the building and maintenance.

This pool is Norfolk's newest recreational center and is a real beauty. For those outside the…read moreswimming community you would never know about the shortage of swimming pools this area has, but it's true. This new facility was a very welcome addition to Norfolk and the surrounding communities. The complex is almost a year old and looks it too. The building is a looker from the outside with all glass and clean lines. A really cool bronze statute greets you out front of a woman with long legs and arms stretched out. Parking is good, but not sure I would say great if they were really busy. One thing that will not be too much of an issue is this facility is not really set up for swim meets. Could they do a small one... YES! They even have a scoreboard. I really don't see it. Also a drawback is no exercise room that would have been a sweet enhancement. As you enter the check in desk is in front, a nice lobby with TV to the left and lockers to the right. Also to the left and down the corridor a bit is a large multi purpose room with kitchen. This was an important aspect of the facility to hold meetings and accommodate parties etc. The locker rooms are very small, with only two benches to change on. This was one of the missed opportunities I will speak to in this review. They had plenty lockers, but few stalls and a small showering area. However, I found them to be spic and span. Let's get to the exciting part. The pool is a six lane with a two story water slide that swirls you outside and back in and down into the pool. They also have a basketball hoop. I was impressed with pool and deck, it was really done nicely. There are blocks at the end of the lanes for diving starts. I am unsure if the length is in meters, or yards. The size of the pool was the biggest missed opportunity of the complex. An eight lane pool is standard for running swim meets. A six lane is completely inadequate to hold a swimming competition. There is a score board, but my assumption is not one meet has taken place. They most certainly had the land to expand. There is probably two acres out back. It will be interesting to see if this land is ever developed. The spectator area is first class. Just off the deck on three tiers. It is comfortable and parents can easily see there swimmers play, take lessons etc. This is something they gave some thought to and I score this high having seating just off the pool and close to children. The lifeguards that I encountered were approachable and nice to talk to. The evening that I attended a lifeguard not on duty was providing private lessons to a young swimmer. The guards have there own room which is state of the art with exam table and plenty of cabinet for storage. I also saw the must have defibrillator. I like the location of this aquatic center, especially in Norfolk where the greatest need was. The city had the foresight to seek the funding and got it built. However, the lack of a eight lane pool was just not smart at all! Compare what the City of Virginia Beach does at there recreational centers. Everyone is an eight lane competition pool. If your a resident of Norfolk you can get in for a discount, other pay more. Of course they have membership and I would recommend. Since they offer lessons parents should take notice of when classes are being offered to make sure the little one can swim. There is so much water in our community and programs like this are perfect to educate on water safety and have fun.

The club is very easy to locate, but it is way off the beaten path of Virginia Beach Blvd. Turn onto Little Neck Rd. and travel approximately five miles to the club on the right. There is great signage which will guide you in to their lot. Plenty of parking is available for members. However, on swim meet days, or events it is strained. Overflow has been at the church across the street. Behind the main house is a huge open air grass space for holding out events that could be tented. The pool complex is very nice. As you walk in you will see a guard shack on the left the main building on the right. The clubhouse has a kitchen, a large open air meeting space with fireplace and restrooms. It is nothing fancy whatsoever, but it's well maintained. Smaller type of indoor events could be held here. There is a nice large splash pool for kids in the middle that offers different depths and a mushroom sprinkler. Also included is a small tube curly slide that is a huge hit with the kids. The main pool is rectangular with no bump outs. There are two diving boards, a one meter and a meter and a half spring board. The pool is six lanes 25 meter guttered pool and it's a real beauty. The concrete deck space is massive allowing for very large swim meets to be comfortably held. Little Neck swims in the Dolphin Division of the Virginia Beach Swim Team and goes by the name "Blue Dolphins" They are consistently the largest swim team in the VBSL with over 225 swimmers. You must be a member of the club in order to swim on the team. LN is very good team that wins titles. The officiating crew led by Meet Referee Bill Gill does a great job preparing the pool for dual meets. This is my forth year assisting the team and I have found their volunteers to be accommodating to visitors. The club has always run a first class swim meet and most years host the final championship meet "All-Stars" of the season. Although I cannot vouch for the tennis portion of this club I can tell you the aquatics portion is really top notch and many of the members I know personally friendly. If interested in a tennis/pool club this is one of the nicer one you will find in Virginia Beach.
