I had a very bad experience with cataract surgery and the doctor, Timothy Ehlen. He did not inform me of a very common complication with the multifocal lense I chose. I now have dysphotopsia which means I see bright concentric circles of light around streetlights, houselights, even stars at night. I never had issues with night time driving but now I do since this quack did my cataract surgery. I got a second opinion after the surgery. This doctor said he always informs his patients of this common complication and most people opt for another type of lense. My only option is to have the multifocal lenses replaced which means more eye surgery. This clinic only cares about having billable services to Medicare. This doctor should have informed me about the liklihood of having vision impairment with a multifocal lense. read more

I gave this a five star a few years ago. But things change. They have split out specialties. So now it feels like you have to do and re-do. The front desk is probably tired of people showing up at the wrong desk. But you can no longer just go to NW eye. You need to know what Dr and then go to the right reception desk. The main desk is fairly rude about telling you where you need to be. I just found the initial visit confusing and then, I had three referrals all to NW Eye sub groups. What a rip off! I am fairly savvy with insurance. I knew to check to make sure optometrist and exam were in network. I called the facility to verify In Network provider status. However, after doing my due diligence, my simple optometric eye exam cost me $492.00 and was NOT covered by my insurance. read more

I was able to get an appointment quickly! The staff were extremely thorough at intake. Dr.Dovich took his time with the exam and addressed each concern. As a woman, my symptoms were not ignored. I've been a patient for several years and have had satisfactory regular/annual appointments but had a VERY disappointing experience when trying to sort through an acute problem this summer. Difficulty getting in and then TERRIBLE experience with Dr. Kruthoff (who was not my regular doctor -- poor listening skills, super condescending, and wrote the wrong prescription which caused a 2 hour delay at the pharmacy). In trying to resolve these issues, could not get to a nurse or doctor or anyone informed to speak to me with my repeated concerns... just think call-in center hell. I won't be going back. read more

I recently visited this clinic and scheduled my annual exam. This practice has dishonest billing practices. I will not be going back. For my specific visit, I provided all of my insurance information at scheduling and prior to my exam. Despite that, they charged me for a different type of visit and only after the visit was completed did they tell me that my VSP was not accepted. They should have told me that at scheduling or when I checked in prior to my visit. Very disappointing experience. read more

After two weeks & five phone calls, I did receive satisfaction from NEC. They did replace two bottles of eyedrops & expressed shipped them to me. They are looking in to rewriting use instructions. Nothing would have happened if Katie the consultant had not intervened for me. I really appreciate her help. I got the response I wanted but still irritated that all my previous complaints on the phone & in person were met with "so sorry." and Ignored so I can't give more than 3 stars. I had a very reasonable if slightly frantic appointment with the doctor, to get a yearly checkup after changing insurance companies. The prescription changes were as expected, and the doctor was able to help me with the other issue I was having. My issues and difficulties came in ordering contacts from them. They could not tell me initially what my cost of contacts would be but wanted to collect my payment information. I told them this felt odd to me and got the verbal equivalent of a shrug. I contacted the clinic manager who had someone call me who could tell me the price but no other feedback beyond that. The person that called me back had no empathy for my concern of giving payment without being quoted a price. "It is just easier for us this way." I can tell you what is easier for me, not going back to this clinic. read more

On July 27th I paid for a cataract package. Due to scheduling issues I had to cancel it (on the same day). I was told that I would refunded within 2 weeks in the amount of $3895.00. As of 8/12/2022, i have not received my refund nor am I am able to speak with a person - lots of generic voicemail boxes. This is beyond frustrating - If I owed NWEye $3895.00, I am sure they would be on the phone to me trying to collect. I will not be returning for any services to NWEye. read more

Today I called to ask about LASIK. I reached an automated message and then was transferred when I pressed the correct number. I reached a female representative who then transferred me again when I said I was looking into getting LASIK. I was then transferred again by another staff member who wanted me to speak to someone specific about getting the procedure. I then reached the voicemail of someone who wasn't available to speak to me about the generals of getting LASIK. I left a voicemail telling them I'd be leaving a review on their services up to this point. Conclusion: What service? *UPDATE The staff at NW Eye Clinic tried desperately to reach me. They responded personally to my online review and even tracked down my phone number and left me a voicemail, profusely apologizing for the runaround I received and promised better service. The reps were very sincere and they chalked it up to the holidays and a skeleton staff. I respect how they handled the situation, however within minutes after this experience, I scheduled an exam for the very next day, passed it with flying colors, and set a date to get LASIK in four business days through LASIK PLUS of Edina. I'm not sure what I'll be missing through NW Eye, but I have a feeling it was definitely good customer care. read more

I am not going back to NW Eye Clinic. They misled me on the cost to have a check up. Even though they were "in network" of my PPO, the charged me almost $500 for a simple eye exam. Loushin in particular is an ophthamolist to avoid. read more

It is official Northwest Eye Clinic has BCD (big company disease). It is not so much how you handle day to day business but rather how you handle things when they do go wrong. These guys failed on every count. I I gave them many opportunities. Failure to get the job done on time. Failure to follow-up. Failure to communicate. When I asked to leave a message for my doctor of 25 years plus, I was flatly refused the opportunity. What is more amazing is that I was a grade school/high school classmate with two of their doctors. Wow! Very disappointing. I will not be back and either will the rest of my family. read more

Had eye lid surgery. Dr. Schmidt did an excellent job and he is very thorough and friendly. The surgery center experience did not go well. They were on time which is a plus. However they rushed through the medical questions as another person was putting in the IV. The anesthetist arrived chewing gum-with no bedside manner-not professional. No time to ask questions or explain what they were doing. My gurney did the 50 yard dash to the OR. Since I had conscious sedation. I could hear everything going on around me. The staff in the room were talking up a storm about their personal lives. I was totally ignored throughout and then 50 yard dash back to my bay. Everybody there was in a great hurry with little regard for the patient. read more

I'd caution people without insurance to be extremely careful being seen at this clinic. The prices are inflated. They were not fully transparent and never shared a pre-estimate inspite of asking couple of times. Was really shocked to see a $1500 bill. While they offered a discount, it wasn't fair enough and had we known the estimate prior we would have reconsidered visiting this clinic. Contacted their CEO through email and while she was nice, she was either being misled with facts by her staff or just the way they do business. We canceled our follow ups and went to Costco and got seen at a very nominal price. In the end, they sent a letter threatening to send things to collections. I paid as we didn't want to drag this further and spend cycles. The issue was more than money - it was about being fair and transparent and don't believe this organization is. More of a place that is focused on dollars and cents and collect payments at any cost than providing truthful fair service. There are lot of better clinics to be seen at Minnesota. A lesson well learnt. read more
