I ordered glasses from a frame I tried on in store. Unfortunately the frame I received, which was ordered in another color, did not fit the same. I did not have a chance to try on the ordered frame prior to receiving the finished product. The one I received was slightly bigger which meant it was resting on my cheeks and loose. I went to return the glasses after a half day of wear and was told about their no return policy which I was not made aware of prior to purchase - and was essentially told I was imagining the difference in frame size (at Wayzata location) even when holding them side by side (I was told I was holding them to make them look that way). After the Wayzata location called the manager at Golden Valley I was told I could return them with a 30% restocking fee. These glasses were over $900. So I was to pay $300 for glasses that did not fit the same as the frame I tried on and believed I was ordering. After I made a call to the manager, who was at the Golden Valley location, they did agree to take them back. I also shared that they gaslit my (elderly) mother on how her glasses were fitting a few years ago at the Maple Grove location. I had defended them to my mother as a patient of 20(ish) years but after today they lost a customer. Millimeters matter in eye care/eyewear. The Golden Valley location that I returned them to agreed that even the "same" frames can absolutely have size differences and that can alter fit. Please do better for your patients. read more

I had a negative experience with this business. I booked in for a super inflamed pinguecula. By the time I was able to get an appointment the inflammation had gone down. The nurse I had was lovey. Dr. Sheffer however, was super condescending, flippant, and rushed me a lot. She said things like "why were you so stressed out about this??" After I had shown her a photo of the growth that is touching my iris and was bright red for weeks.. I'm 30 years old and don't have the other risk factors associated with this condition. She simultaneously told me that this condition is "so common" but that "only immigrants or people who move here from the equator" have anything to worry about when it comes to this condition worsening. She told me that if the pinguecula flared up again I could just call and send photos and she could prescribe me steroid drops as that's the only thing that can be done about this condition. One and a half months later, it's bad again and I just called and went back and forth with her nurse Tatianna (again very sweet and helpful) only to hear that I'm expected to make another appointment because there's nothing abnormal on my file even though I was diagnosed by Dr. Scheffer with a pinguecula and she saw my photos of how bad it had been. Extremely disappointed and would not recommend this practice. read more

Brought my daughter in for an eye exam on a Saturday with Dr. Hamann in Maple Grove. Great experience from beginning to the end. My daughter enjoyed her time there. Everyone was friendly. Would definitely recommend everyone to make an appointment for an eye exam with Northwest Eye Clinic. read more

I give them a big fat zero. their doctors are cold, not compassionate and make big mistakes. My script was so off that when my new glasses arrived I could not see a thing. They are paying for the remake. I asked for a person in charge with whom I could discuss my experience and they would not give me a number. I wish I had looked at the ratings on yelp before I booked an appt with them. Horrible, if there was a negative star I would use it. read more

I had blepharoplasty and ptosis surgery done by Dr Nicholas Schmitt. The clinic was great to work with overall and my surgery turned out very well. I had minimal bruising and swelling and the result was a significant improvement. Would definitely recommend Dr Schmitt and the Northwest Eye Clinic. read more

Edited July 1, 2014: Had my follow up visit today. Scheduled it at 8:50am hoping for less of a wait earlier in the day. I have now been waiting 45 min and the nurse said there are 5 charts ahead of me. Nurse said the doctor started his day at 7:00. Unless you are triple booking patients, I don't see how you can get that far behind in 2 hours. The older gentleman next to me just asked the nurse how much longer the wait will be, as he has another doctor appointment and has been waiting here over an hour. Totally unacceptable. I have other things to do with my time. I will find another specialist. May 16, 2014 I saw Dr. Berestka in the wayzata office. My appointment was at 1:30. I finally saw him at 5 minutes before 3:00. That is a RIDICULOUS wait. The other thing that irked me is I came referred from another doctor after a series of visits. I had just had an appointment with the referring doctor the day before, had every test done, etc. And when I arrived at Dr. Berestka's office, his technician Shirley asked me to explain to her what was wrong. So I did, even though I knew I'd have to reexplain it to Dr. Berestka. Then she put dye in my eyes and looked at them, even though I had just had that done the day before and even though Dr. Berestka was going to look at them himself in just a few minutes. I honestly felt like she "just wanted to see what it looked like" out of her own curiosity. I don't appreciate having to tell my whole story twice and basically having 2 independent exams. One for the entertainment of the technician and a 2nd where the doctor actually diagnoses me. Especially when I had just explained that I have been to the eye doctor multiple times and just want to be done with it. Dr. Berestka was fine when i finally got to see him. But the length of time I had to wait for the appointment, plus the meaningless 'exam' from the technician don't make me very excited to go back there. read more

I had my routine eye exam this wee with Dr. Ehlen. He and his staff do a great job. I have been a patient for years. Dr. Ehlen has operated on both of my eyes. I would entrust my eye care to anyone else. I have 20/15 corrected vision and I would highly recommend Northwest Eye to anyone looking for an Ophthalmologist. They are not inexpensive but my eyes are worth it. How about yours? read more

BE CAREFUL ABOUT BILLING. I had my yearly appointment that is supposed to be covered by insurance and found out they coded my visit as a medical appointment. When I called I was told that since I told the doctor I had some glare issues it was then a medical appointment. THERE WERE NO TESTS OTHER THAN THE NORMAL EYE CHECK UP. I asked if there was anything they could do because what was the point of a doctors visit if you can't tell the doctor anything that is bothering you. I was told that there was nothing they could do since I told the doctor I was having a minor issue... Will not be returning. read more

I was asked to come 20 to 30 minutes before my actual appointment. They called me 35 minutes after my appointment was scheduled. The technicians were all very professional and adept at their jobs. Then had to wait another 30 minutes to get in to see the doctor for 15 minutes, He also was very good and professional. My gripe is that for my 15 minutes with the doctor, I spent 3 hours in the clinic watching animal clips. It has happened on most appointments over the years. Whoever does the scheduling doesn't have a clue what they are doing when the do the schedules. The medicine was professional but the scheduling was substandard and I see why the poor reviews. I only gave a 2 star because of technicians and doctor once I saw them. Otherwise 1/2 to 1 star for terrible scheduling. read more

Extremely poor customer relations! If I could give a review that was less than one I would!!! I brought my mother and one of the assistants neglected to give her back one of the pairs of glasses that she brought. We didn't discover until we were easily 30 minutes away from the clinic in Wayzata. So I called and politely asked since she had another pair that they mail them to her. I was refused this request. Why? They are not "equipped" to mail glasses out. What?!?!?!? An eye clinic which also provides eyeglass and contact lens services is not capable of mailing out a pair of eyeglasses????? Strikes me as odd but is perhaps a overall reflection of their capabilities as an eye clinic. I even thought that once I arrived at the clinic I would receive an apology. I was greeted with an "excuse me - I have to finish something else" before being handed the glasses. I would simply like to remind this clinic that we have the ability to go somewhere else and perhaps they should try and be a more patient oriented clinic. We will not be recommending this group to others. All this after waiting over 10 minutes for a live person to provide no help whatsoever. read more

I drove my 89-yr-old mother from New Hope to a 9:30 app't with Dr. Sinclair at Northwest Eye in Wayzata to get a new prescription for glasses. We arrived at 9:15. An assistant gave her the eye exam and told her to wait in an inner waiting room and that Dr. Sinclair would be in to see her soon. By shortly before 11:00 she was still waiting to see Dr. Sinclair and was becoming faint and nauseous (she is a diabetic). She told the staff she could physically wait no longer. That afternoon Dr. Sinclair phoned my mother at home in the assisted living facility where she resides. She told her she would have to come to another appointment. She would not simply send her her new eye glasses prescription. My mother does not drive and lives alone. I had flown to MPLS from Florida to take my mother to this and other doctors' app'ts while I was there. In my opinion this is abuse of an elderly person ... by a doctor, no less! After having a very poor experience with this clinic, I feel it necessary to warn others. I've had many routine eye exams over the years and have always had the full test and glaucoma screening so I get my prescription and then also eye health is checked. Typically eye drops to enlarge the pupil and then back of eye is checked. This time when I went to this clinic it happened to be with one of the optometrists (OD) on staff rather than an ophthalmologist (MD) I was told halfway through the exam that she was unable to continue with the glaucoma screen because she was concerned that I could have narrow angle glaucoma. In all the years of having eye tests I had never been told that my eye structure had anything odd or strange. So naturally I questioned the doctor. She told me that I would have to come back to see one of the specialist doctors and per their policy this is charged as a medical visit. I thought this was very strange and it felt like a money making scam. They couldn't tell me what they would charge me for the specialist. So I went to a different clinic and had my eyes checked for glaucoma. I was told that my eyes were completely normal and I have no narrow angle glaucoma or any risk for glaucoma. I feel that Northwest eye in Wayzata is unethical for allowing doctors who do not have the required competence or experience to do eye exams if they are not able to complete all elements of a routine eye exam which is covered by insurance annually. I reached out to the clinic and have complained to them directly to no avail. Be warned that if you do go to their clinic, you will likely be told something that requires a visit to their specialist. I have incurred the additional cost due to this bad practice and hope my review will enable others to avoid the same poor experience. read more

Multiple appointments with my 91 y.o. mother. Dr Stanley Walker is excellent, but the extremely long wait times are inexcusable. EVERY time we have an appointment, there is always at least 45 mins delay. And we always arrive about 10-20 mins early because that is what they ask. We have also had 2 times in past year where they have canceled appointments and pushed the reschedule date into another month away, at a time not at all convenient for me (mom doesn't drive anymore). I truly hope and wish that a doctor as excellent as Dr. Walker, could have better management of his appointment times. Also the Wayzata location has a substandard waiting room, often extremely full of people, low ceilings, and the inner wait room is downright tiny. In these days of flu virus and who knows what virus out there, a little more breathing room from the unknown person next to you is really important. The entire Wayzata Medical Building is from around the 1960's, with an extremely small parking lot too. The Golden Valley office is light years ahead in this respect, but still has loooong wait times. As for my own eye needs, if I ever need a super-specialist like Dr Walker, I will go elsewhere. read more
