Very patient with my indecision of frame choice and was able to assist me in narrowing down frames I may like. In closing, there is a reason all of NorthStar Eye Care's reviews consist of 5-Stars. The only thing that could have made this appointment better would have been a pina colada, but then one's vision would get blurry and you may walk out of the office wearing a pair of pint glasses; rather than some fashionable frames.

However, don't buy frames here…read more A lack of information and questions ended with me spending around $1650 on eyeglasses that had to be replaced twice and ended up being just ok for my needs. Less than a year later, I'm having to replace them again. Driving is what brought me in to the optometrist. I was beginning to have trouble with focus at dusk and at night when reading street signs and dealing with headlights, traffic lights, etc. I'm also a grad student, so I read a lot - A LOT - but not on screens. This was my first pair of wear-all-the-time eyeglasses, so I decided to try progressives. When I went to the optician side, someone should have asked me all of that right off the bat: how/when are you going to use these glasses? What brought you in for your exam? Is there a specific issue that you're dealing with? What kind of insurance coverage do you have? None of these questions were asked. Information that wasn't made clear up front: the actual cost of neurolenses (which I do recommend - if you have money). The cost of the frames that were chosen was also not made clear up front. Options like transitions, blue light blockers, oil resistant coating, etc. No mention until much, much later. No mention was made that I could restyle if I didn't like the frames, either. No mention was made that they could be adjusted for fit, until much later, either. The first frames that were chosen were highly recommended by an optometrist there. I was uncomfortable with their size, but open-minded and willing to give it a try. After all, they *were* my first pair of eyeglasses. They go on your face. I knew I would have to get used to them. I asked if they were too big, and was told they were perfect. I ordered them. I thought I'd be looking at about $400-$500. Two weeks later, I pick them up and am told upwards of $1500! I should have walked out but I was shocked, and also needed them. So, I paid for them, tried them on, and was instantly aware that I wouldn't be able to read in them. I said as much to the optician, who made no adjustments, said she'd call me in two weeks to see how it was going, and that was that. Again, these were my first pair, and I knew I would have to try them for a few weeks to give my eyes a chance to adjust, so I went along with it. Two weeks later, the optometrist did call, and I asked about clip-on sunshades because I was experiencing headaches from the brightness of the sun when driving. There were none available, but she could add Transitions lenses for $138. Two weeks later, I go to pick up the new glasses. As I'm leaving, I mention that I'm still getting used to the frames, but looking forward to using the Transitions for driving. She got a strange look on her face, but didn't say anything. The Transitions lenses were so weak, I ended up buying clip-ons from Walgreens and cutting them to fit. I looked like an idiot. On top of it, I couldn't read in these glasses unless I physically held the frames higher up on my face with one hand. The other option was looking so far down on the lenses that people would ask me if I was asleep while reading. My neck was a mess. I also felt like a clown in the frames. I finally sent an email asking if all of this was normal. A different optician invited me in to restyle. What?! You can do that? No one told me that. I made the 40 min drive out - an hour and 40 back each time, btw, because of the freeway situation - and we went through about 10 different frames, none of which were great, but at least they weren't clown glasses. He also told me that there are different types of Transitions, and the wrong type had been ordered. He also adjusted the reader Rx and ordered a different pair. Two weeks later, he's adjusting the 2nd pair so I can really read in them - not just check a text or read a pay terminal for 12 seconds - but there was a moment when he suggested I get computer distance glasses instead. Why would I want that? I have three perfectly good pairs at home: one was fully covered by insurance, one was $20 from Walmart, and one was about $150 from Zenni Optical. I don't get it. The new Transitions worked well, but when I got home, I noticed that these frames weren't the ones I'd ordered - and were equally disturbing. Now I looked like my mother - which is not ok. Again, I tried to get used to them, but was so embarrassed in them that I actually blew off a friend's birthday party at one point. The optician told me we could do one more restyle. They were decent. However, I can't read in these either for any length of time, and have utterly given up. I don't think it's even been 6 months since the final pair came in, and I need a new Rx. They were pleasant, Dr. Wesley was very good. But too much time, gas, way too much money, limited selection of men's frames, not enough information shared, and they should've asked a lot more questions. Mediocre end result. A real miss.

What I didn't expect was that the next day my vision was blurry and my eyes were in significant pain. I called and was told to use eye drops. I did, and it only got worse. The following day I went to a different eye doctor and was diagnosed with an eye infection. Based on the timing, I have serious concerns about sanitation and hygiene practices at this clinic. I won't be returning, and I recommend going elsewhere.

It never got to that point. My initial appointment was 40 minutes late. Eye testing is done not in private but a big room with other people being tested, also. Then another 20 minute wait to see the surgeon, who spent three minutes talking to me. This may a routine thing to him, but these are my eyes and I'd like to have a conversation if someone will be messing with them, please. Trying to get answers to questions is a ridiculous process. No matter what it is, you have to leave a message with an initial person who supposedly forwards you to the actual person you need to talk with. I have never gotten a call back from that second person, and have spent a minimum of a week (usually more) trying to track down answers. Follow-up appointments made by Minnesota Eye Consultants with my original eye doc have been made incorrectly. They were so messed up I finally just did it myself. There has been more, but I won't go into it all, just to say I've had my fair number of surgeries and have never run into such incompetence, EVER. Am in the process of trying to cancel my surgeries with these folks. Running true to form, been waiting four days now. Think I'll just send them a letter, copying my insurance company so they don't try anything funny.

I ordered glasses from a frame I tried on in store. Unfortunately the frame I received, which was…read moreordered in another color, did not fit the same. I did not have a chance to try on the ordered frame prior to receiving the finished product. The one I received was slightly bigger which meant it was resting on my cheeks and loose. I went to return the glasses after a half day of wear and was told about their no return policy which I was not made aware of prior to purchase - and was essentially told I was imagining the difference in frame size (at Wayzata location) even when holding them side by side (I was told I was holding them to make them look that way). After the Wayzata location called the manager at Golden Valley I was told I could return them with a 30% restocking fee. These glasses were over $900. So I was to pay $300 for glasses that did not fit the same as the frame I tried on and believed I was ordering. After I made a call to the manager, who was at the Golden Valley location, they did agree to take them back. I also shared that they gaslit my (elderly) mother on how her glasses were fitting a few years ago at the Maple Grove location. I had defended them to my mother as a patient of 20(ish) years but after today they lost a customer. Millimeters matter in eye care/eyewear. The Golden Valley location that I returned them to agreed that even the "same" frames can absolutely have size differences and that can alter fit. Please do better for your patients.

The nurse I had was lovey. Dr. Sheffer however, was super condescending, flippant, and rushed me a lot. She said things like "why were you so stressed out about this??" After I had shown her a photo of the growth that is touching my iris and was bright red for weeks.. I'm 30 years old and don't have the other risk factors associated with this condition. She simultaneously told me that this condition is "so common" but that "only immigrants or people who move here from the equator" have anything to worry about when it comes to this condition worsening. She told me that if the pinguecula flared up again I could just call and send photos and she could prescribe me steroid drops as that's the only thing that can be done about this condition. One and a half months later, it's bad again and I just called and went back and forth with her nurse Tatianna (again very sweet and helpful) only to hear that I'm expected to make another appointment because there's nothing abnormal on my file even though I was diagnosed by Dr. Scheffer with a pinguecula and she saw my photos of how bad it had been. Extremely disappointed and would not recommend this practice.
