Crew worked too fast. Did not nail down top part of several boards, a board by the hinge was cracked, the gate dropped and the latch would not work. When crew was done, they didn't notify they were done, so didn't get to look at the work til they were gone. They came back out and did some work to correct it. But the latch is still wonky. read more

I contracted this company to install 55 feet of wooden fencing. After job was finished 4 of the 7 sections were not level on the top finishing board. I complained and they were corrected but no one from the company contacted me to inform me. I then noticed the fence was not straight and complained again and got a suspect answer delivered from the front receptionist, not the installers. The company has sent two people out to look at problem and I still haven't heard from them. This problem has been going on since June 30 th with no resolution in sight and no contact from this company. I would not recommend this company to anyone. read more

Northwest Fence did an amazing job with designing and building the fence for our dog yard on our current home. Our neighbors were worried as there were no fences but once it went up, we received so many compliments! That was 6 years ago! It has held up very well and definitely has done its primary job of providing a safe place for our dogs to run and play. We have just enlisted their assistance with a new project. I visited the office and was super impressed with their professionalism and customer service! It was a real treat to meet "Oscar"! I would highly recommend them for any fencing needs. read more

I gave them two stars because the people were really nice. Similar to other reviews, the fence does not look very good compared to other similar fences. Before the one year warranty was up, they did come out and re-nail one gate that was hanging loose. I live in another city so I don't look at the fence reqularly. Its been about a year and a half since installation and the boards are badly warping, very uneven look, caps are loose, etc. and I'm concerned about it falling apart. I hoped that the fence would add value to the house but it may actually make it decline. When I hired them I really wanted to be able to give them five starts but cannot after looking at the fence. read more

We've needed our fence replaced for a few years now and have gotten by with some patch jobs. We found ourselves in the middle of COVID 19 when we finally decided to pull the trigger, and these guys still managed to get it done! They were able to use google maps to do a virtual visit and provide a quote within a few hours. I had questions and wanted to modify a few things and they were really easy to communicate with. Once they were able to work again I got an email that day letting me know, and were able to get us scheduled in right away - even working on a tight timeframe to accommodate our dog situation. The work is fantastic! Our new fence looks amazing, they did a great job on all the details. We're already plotting our next fencing project and know who we'll call for that one as well. read more

North West fence was contracted to install fences by our builder. Roughly 3 months later our gate stopped operating due to a post being twisted and leaning. 8 months later we ended up with a 3 in gap from the fence panel to the post where the fence sits on a retaining wall dropping off to an alley way. It was a struggle to get them to fix the gate issue. When they came to "fix" the gap they took a ratchet strap to two posts, cinched it together and put screws in. This then caused separation along the rest of the fence line on the wall. The posts are twisting, bowing, and one has a split in it. I filed a warranty claim with the builder and the fence company didn't want to fix it stating the issues are due to the elements. I got the foreman here Will, and he again tried to claim that it's not their problem that this is normal. A fence that's not even a year old shouldn't have to be repaired. I had originally showed the companies employee Sam the fence issues and the posts after the repair and he agreed it was repaired wrong and that 4 posts were effected. He took pictures to send to his foreman Will. The crew who fixed my gate told me the repair was also done incorrectly by the other crew and they just cut corners. When Will the foreman was here looking at it in person, he was rude and argued with both my husband and I and did not take any responsibility for the terrible workmanship. He pissed us both off and left us no resolution to our problem. He is cheap and refused to repair the fence that is not even a year old! My 5 year old was the one who originally found the 3" gap in the fence and you could push the fence and see the alley way below. This is a safety issue for our family and I expected better customer service. Do NOT use this company! They will do a crappy job and will refuse to fix it! read more

The crew did a great job and was very friendly.  The rest of the experience was really disappointing. They forgot to respond to an email of mine for weeks when I was trying to get an estimate. Then they bailed on our scheduled day of installation and didn't notify us.  But worst of all, their initial measurements for the project were inaccurate, resulting in us paying hundreds of dollars more than their estimate. When I asked why they didn't validate their satellite measurements before beginning work, they told me this was not feasible for their business. They apparently believe that it's my job to validate their measurements. It looks like they only have time to measure their projects accurately once all work is completed to see if they can squeeze more money out of it. I will not work with them again and I would not recommend them. read more

The scheduling was the easy part. The young girl on the phone was nice and did her job. She scheduled me an appointment and emailed me to confirm and was prompt in her communication. I was at the house for my 10:00 appointment at 10:00. When I called at 10:10 to ask where the guy was she said he had arrived early and since I wasn't there, left to get to his next appointment. It was extremely disappointing. I would never recommend them. I left work to meet him! So unprofessional! read more

I've used this company twice. Once for a horse fence in Deming. No complaints with that job. The subcontractors were cordial, prompt, and did excellent work. However the second time I used the company for an estate fence in Bellingham, I happened upon their workers referring to me by a racial slur. When they noticed that I was within hearing distance, finally, they stopped and acted like nothing happened. I can't trust a company that hires subcontractors who will slander and demean their clientele. Until these subs are no longer employed hired by Northwest Fence, I cannot, in good faith, recommend this company, despite my earlier, positive experience. read more

I have used Northwest Fence a number of times and they have always given the results I hoped for. Service people in the office-- Will, Kurt, Sierra, and Veronica have all been helpful and professional. Quotes for work to be done, dates when it would be done, my suggestions and their accomodation always thoughtful. Recently I had a complete yard fence done in two days, and my design for an arbor skillfully realized. Much of the project was done in pouring,cold rain, but masks and courtesy prevailed. I counted up to five different guys working to complete the fence on time despite the weather. They were really a team, very careful with plants, shaping a couple of trees to fit, cleaning up and carrying away debris. They even scheduled a return to make an adjustment that I wanted which involved reworking part of a gate. I had wondered if it could be done. "We'll make it happen," said Kurt. I wouldn't know if they do a good job or not.....because after 2 requests for an estimate they never showed up. My wife and I put in a request for them to come out to give us an estimate. Well, they never showed up, so we put in a second request online stating that they never showed up. They called my wife and asked her when they were supposed to come out? Shouldn't they be the ones to know? Anyway, after they asked they were supposed call back and set up another appointment. We haven't heard from them since. I guess they are too big and don't need our business. I'm sure we can find someone else to build or install a new fence on our property. read more

Honestly it's the only fencing company in whatcom county and we had no choice but to go with them. They have to keep coming back to our house to fix issues with the fence now if they did it right the first time they wouldn't have to in the first place. The employees that came over to install the posts were amazing and I wish I had them come back to finish the install but instead we had incompetent workers that took the whole day to finish the fence and then did horrible work finishing it up just because they wanted to go home. If there is a better fencing company that anyone suggest put it up on the internet and put this business under. Under no circumstances DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!! read more

Our condo community selected Northwest Fence to build fences for 8 of our owners. All of us were more than satisfied with their work. The office staff were friendly and helpful. We got quick responses when we had questions, etc. The owner and work crew were professional and the finished fences were beautiful. I called them after I looked on Home Advisor this was the first company on their list. I told them what I needed they made an appointment with me for an appraisal, I recieved a call back today, the person on the phone- Mumbling, talking fast, and at a very low volume asked me about the scope of work needed I told them I needed the back of my fence replaced and front gates rebuilt. The person on the other end kept telling me they don't come out if its under 100 feet. I'm not sure if its 100 feet or not, it is close. So the person told me to take a number of a salesman down to call for an over the phone quote. I was assuming this was about a $1500.00 job minimum. But with such poor customer service to call me back after making an appointment. I may be just short of the minimum It didn't feel right so I'll get someone else that likes the color of my money. Interesting, Yelp has two listings for the same company. I used them to replace some sections of a wood fence that has blown down multiple times. After the bid was submitted, I asked them to change it, but my instructions weren't as specific as they should have been, and it was not done exactly to my expectation, although it was within the letter of the agreement. I emailed them, expecting to be told to just live with it, or pay more $$. They honored their commitment to make it right, and came out quickly and finished the job the way I wanted it. No extra charge. Not inexpensive, but the fence looks great. Assuming it doesn't get blown over anytime soon, I'd use them again anytime. read more

I am rating this business 1 star due to the kindness of the office staff, and the fact that they did eventually answer my calls and emails. Apparently the lack of communication, is a characteristic of these types of businesses in Bellingham. I would NOT recommend this business to neighbors or family and friends. In fact, I now reccomend to people to just do their own work. The experience was, we asked a for a fence to be built in a specific manner, and then we were ignored. I walked the area where we wanted to fence. Describing how we wanted to be and the purpose of the fence. The fence was Not built as we asked for. The way the fence was put in did not serve the purpose it was intended for At All. It wasn't until the end, when the foreman finally walked the job with us to address our concerns, the issues were patched up at additional cost to us. Their mistakes, cost us another $1200, on top of the 25k for 250+ft of welded wire and T post. So to summarize the whole experience. I had to constantly chase them and just show up like ex-girlfriends of Christmas past to get the job started. Then give them a down payment for a home to end up with the most basic bare minimum of fencing available. I did learn that there is a need in this area for a reputable contractor. I reached out to other fence companies and did not get any response back. This is the only company that answers their phones. I am so disappointed and have shared this experience with every single person I know, even strangers who are new to the area. I do not believe that companies should be allowed to treat the customer with little to no service, at the highest cost possible. If we had not had an urgent need for the fencing we would have done the job ourselves and will be in the future for other parts of the property. Save your self a ton of money and the hassle of chasing them and just put in your own fencing. Lowe's and Home depot have discounts for large orders of materials. The material cost for the job done, at retail cost, is about 12-15k including taxes. read more

This company is notoriously shady and is lucky to still be in business. They overquote when they are behind on jobs to a ridiculous degree. Essentially, when they don't want the work they charge easily 10x what the job should cost and wait for the occasional unsuspecting homeowner to take the bait. It's really too bad that this company is basically the only one in town. I usually like their work, but this last time was a bad experience. The subcontractors who dug the holes were talking behind my husband's back, making racial slurs. My husband could hear them, and it upset him, and then me, considerably. I was so upset I called our contractor who then passed me on to the boss. They fired the subcontractor, and said they were sorry, but that was it. If they had offered us a rebate or some sort of reduction in cost, I wouldn't hesitate to use them again. But they offered us nothing, and now I'm not so sure if I'd use them again. read more

Wow. What a horrible experience. I would never, ever, ever recommend this company to anyone I like. Such poor attention to detail, shoddy craftsmanship, and horribly, horribly overpriced. I needed a 4-foot tall, 16-foot long metal fence, a 5' tall, 10-foot cedar garbage can surround, and a separate, 4-foot long stand alone swing gate. So approximately 30 feet of fence. The quote was upwards of $4600.00. Yep, $4600.00. That is about $153.00 for ONE (1) linear foot of fence. I balked at the price, and should've walked away, but we needed it to contain my puppy, so I figured "wow, they must build an exceptionally quality product for that price..." so I hired them. BIG mistake. The cedar planks I had laboriously stained white prior to the installation of the garbage surround were seated so close together that the entire thing bowed and warped within weeks. (I made them replace it, with 1/16" space beteen planks. Duh.) The metal fence was not straight (all they had to do was follow the seam in the concrete below it). I specifically stated I didn't want any holes drilled in my driveway for the drop bar. Guess what? They drilled a hole in my driveway. Upon completion, the two 3' gates were offset an inch from one another when closed, so I asked them to fix that. The 4x4 post they were supposed to seat in concrete for the stand alone gate was replaced by a random 6" cedar fence panel nailed to a 2x4...and it wasn't even trimmed to match the existing 2x4. I had to ask them to trim the extra 2" off of the overhanging sides so it doesn't look so crappy. The drop bar didn't have a holder to put the handle on, so what did they do? Without conferring with me, they drilled holes in my super expensive swing gate to put in a shoddy drop bar holder (that gets in the way of your hand when you try to pull up the dropper). Of course that was not acceptable, but now I have holes in my brand new horrendously expensive, ornamental gate that will cost me at least $150 to get filled and re-powder coated. The list goes on and on... I am absolutely disgusted with this company: they are overpriced, underskilled, and completely lack any attention to detail. I actually felt like I was the general contractor, constantly checking up on them. Obviously not enough times, though. I urge anyone interested in needing a fence to PLEASE shop around. I would hate anyone to have to deal with what I had to deal with. Just pathetic. read more

We have used NW Fence several times over the years, all great experiences, but our last experience proves yet again, they are the best! We had a while vinyl fence installed in our front yard. Cute, picket fence. We have TINY (3 lbs) dogs and so it was essential the slats of the fence be no bigger than 1 and 1/2 inches. They understood our needs. The fence was installed and OOPS the slats were 2 inches... not a big deal for most but for us this was huge. My dogs could fit through the slats. (FYI the actual slat was 1 and 1/2 inch but the space in between was 2 inches) Honest mistake when they called the vendor for the fence. I certainly don't expect there to never be mistakes, but I was impressed that they solved the problem quickly by adding a slat in between the existing ones. Not only was I not charged any extra, they still finished on time! I LOVE my fence, its beautiful and the hit of the block. read more
