I recently attended a queer/lesbian sparring event at Cappy's, and it was the perfect introduction…read moreto the gym. The space is completely unpretentious and has a great, "scrappy" energy that makes you feel welcome the second you walk in. Coach Alex is incredibly knowledgeable--I spent half the time just watching her movement, which is so fluid and smooth. It's rare to find a spot that balances great technique with such an inclusive, easygoing environment. It was so easy to make new friends, and I'll definitely be back for more beginner sparring sessions with other queer women. Thanks for holding events like this! Pro Tip: Bring a mouthguard and 16oz gloves for sparring (and headgear if you have it!).

My experience at Cappy's was humiliating. Alex, the owner, had an issue with another boxer because…read moreshe believed he was homophobic. Because I trained with him, she apparently told people at the gym that I was also homophobic and disrespectful. When I arrived, people were giving me dirty looks. Alex confronted me and accused me of talking badly about Cappy's on Facebook. When I asked for proof, her screenshots only showed the other boxer tagging me in posts. She then admitted that I had not said anything. Instead of apologizing and correcting the misinformation, she allowed everyone to continue treating me with hostility. I even felt pressured to disclose that I have a transgender girlfriend just to prove I was not homophobic. I should never have needed to reveal personal information to defend myself against something I did not do. I came to train, not to be publicly judged and humiliated based on someone else's opinions. In my experience, this was handled unprofessionally and without accountability.

I have been going here for awhile now…read more If you want to learn BJJ GI/NOGI/Street, a form of Boxing that emphasizes self preservation first, Yoga, Kettlebells, or just want to gain increased mobility used in other sports you need to give this gym a try. No need to pick and choose, you get it all for one reasonable price, they have morning and evening classes, and they also have kids and young adults programs. The instructors/owners are great people, will work with anyone, regardless of skill or fitness level. A lot of people I recommend this gym to are intimidated, especially about the boxing, but please don't be, they don't break people here, they train them. They start you out slow, and only add pressure as you get better, and you will get better! You only go as hard as you want to, and free form sparring is optional, and only after you get good enough to defend yourself. The BJJ is not oriented towards competition, though they will help you with that if it's your goal. They do GI, No-GI, and Street Jits/CMD/Etc on Saturdays. We have young guys and a lot of older guys as well. FYI The lineage is Machdo -- King -- Kolesar Even if your just into it for fitness you have to give it a try, you have never worked out until you have boxed, done a round of BJJ rolling, or hit the kettle bells. These are phenomenal cardio and muscular endurance work outs. Women and Men are pretty much in every class, it's a tribe and an extended family, everyone watches out for you, no meatheads, no crazies, give it a try. Finally don't wait to get fit, instead get fit while learning some valuable self preservation life skills!

Should have written this review much sooner. This place is incredible. Got both my daughter(8) and…read moreson(13) in to boxing and they absolutely love it. Best work out guaranteed! No such thing as too young for boxing. Best thing about the youngest group class is high demand for discipline. Eric(one of the trainers and owner) is great with young ones, but also strict. Besides boxing you have option to do jujitsu, self-defense and kettle bells. All of that included in your monthly membership fee. Technically you can attend every day if one wants to. I will be joining my kids soon. It's a great place for the whole family.

During my post vacation blues & feeling sluggish about my fitness, Fitbox came to my rescue. I have…read morelearnt many workouts & movements that I haven't seen / tried before so using muscles that I haven't used much before really helped my fitness & starting to get into shape (this is despite having been a member of other gyms / studios etc). I know I tend to slack off with treadmills by myself. The best thing about Fitbox is by enjoying new workouts & learning new techniques/ developing your fitness - you just naturally feel better & want more! Don't hold off because you think you don't have any boxing experience cuz you don't need it. Just show up & the rest takes care of itself. 1. Trainer - Ricardo is a great listener & leader who truly wants to support your needs. 2. Workout stations - I love trying each workout guided by Ricardo. Every day is something a bit different that makes it fun & interesting. It is not just typical 10 dumbbells rep etc but just adding that extra spice & challenge. 3. Studio - I like the studio set up. You won't get distracted cuz you're purely just working out on yourself. Everyone has a great positive attitude & it helps you. It's not like a typical franchise gym where it looks big/ fancy but I can get distracted then slack off. You'll be surprised by how much you will enjoy Fitbox.
