Let me start by saying that the nursing care is excellent. But the small things like call buttons, window shades, recliners that don't recline, toilets that don't completely flush are frustrating. My partner has been here several times in the past year...and it's the small things that make patients and visitors more comfortable that are lacking. Of course, it's an ER so you may have to wait longer than I did. I live 5 minutes from Howard County Hospital and I chose to come here, I'm so glad I did. I am writing this to warn any family who has a loved one admitted to the Behavioral Health Unit at Northwest Hospital. My experience with this facility has been a nightmare of medical negligence and administrative silence. Despite my repeated, urgent attempts to coordinate a safe transition for a close relative, the staff--specifically Social Workers Marjan S., Shenay A. and Unit Manager Erin T. - completely ignored formal emails, faxes, and phone calls regarding an unsafe discharge plan. We had a fully funded, clinical transfer ready for this relative at a specialized facility. Instead of assisting with this safe transition, Northwest Hospital chose to discharge a vulnerable individual with no resources, no medication, and no support system on December 31st. They effectively discharged a human being into homelessness in the middle of winter, despite being warned of the life-threatening consequences. The "Patient Experience" team is a ghost department; they do not respond to escalations. This hospital prioritizes "clearing beds" over human safety and clinical ethics. If you care about the survival of your loved one, do not let them be treated here. Their lack of communication and disregard for post-discharge safety is a disgrace to the medical profession. read more

First off...... I had to make sure I was at the correct hospital with all the bad reviews. My experience was the total opposite! My partner was scheduled for a surgical procedure previously slated for approximately 7 hours. But it was actually completed in three, which was great! I think the recovery was the longest. When I walked in and headed towards my partner, the security reeled my in to check in. I get it. She was not rude and saw that I was in a hurry so she acted quickly. KUDOS. The room I waited in was nice. It had the electronic board where you can track 'your person' with the number they give you at check in. The TV was on, but not loud. And they provide a desktop computer. I had my laptop so I was occupied the entire time. They also had a cafe called 'Old Court Cafe'. I could have probably sat in there and worked, but I enjoyed the solitude of that waiting area. The Cafe seemed to have all the meals; breakfast, lunch & dinner. I didn't try anything as I wasn't hungry. But it was nice to have that option. There was plenty of seating room. Everybody I dealt with was professional and courteous. The doctor was very friendly, upbeat and seemed to 'know his stuff'. He checked on my partner while she was in the recovery area and event sent a text the next morning to check on her. Oh......I almost forgot about the bathroom faucet. I took a picture because it is so high speed. The faucet itself is also the hand dryer. It's one big piece. I thought it was pretty cool. I visited the emergency room on 2/23/2026 between 10:30am til about 12 noon. This is the most unprofessional staff I have ever encountered in my two years living in Baltimore. Upon attempting to leave the the emergency room I realized I wasn't exiting on the same side of the building I entered on. So I reached on of the labby areas and asked a high yellow black woman how do I get back to the side where the bariatric surgery area is so I could exit the building. To my surprise she thought I was hilarious to be asking such a question surely there is only one way to enter and one way to exit this hospital she mused. So before I reported her to her direct supervisor, I looked at the younger more customer oriented professional who assisted me through a way that no one told me that patients wasn't supposed to walk through to get to the emergency room. This hospital is well beneath the high standards of Mercy Hospital and others. It really serves no purpose except it's only for the county African Americans and the staff knows this and takes advantage of this by mistreating guest and patients alike. On December 21, 2024, I took my husband to Northwest Hospital ER as he was having difficulty breathing. He was diagnosed by a PA with liquid in his lungs and possible heart issues. Sounds like an emergency right? Not at Northmess. We spent 4+ hours in the ER being shuffled from one filthy area to another...each nastier than the last. Obvious dirt stains on the floor along with trash, dust, paper, cups and full trash cans. The restroom had urine on the floor and toilet seat and no paper towels to wipe ones hands. I was given a tube the size of a quarter in which to deposit urine, did I mention I too was sick. We spent more than 2 hours in a nasty smelly area waiting for a room with other patients who were suffering from we-don't-know-what ailments, during a time when COVID and flu are spreading. I finally had the temerity to ask when my husband was going to be taken to the room. A nursing assistant (one step up from emptying bedpans is my guess) in addition to letting us know we were in her dirty, smelly office; she was not talking to me but to my husband. She then informed me that I was old enough to be her great-grandmother, no she corrected herself, her great-great-grandmother. Tells me a lot about her family values as she looks to be 60+ herself. Minutes later, the ER room assignment nurse, LA-KEISHA, came down from her throne to tell us nobody had the right to say the room was available...that's HER job! She summarily demanded I get my hand out of her face when I raised it and insisted she tone down her voice and manner while talking to me. I guess she thinks old people are all deaf and afraid of her awesome authority. On what street corner do they find these folks? The staff evidently hasn't been informed that patients are their customers. Our insurance, wages and taxes pay their salaries. No matter ones' station in life respect is due. If customers stop coming, they don't have jobs! Did I mention how dirty the place was, after I complained suddenly there was cleaning staff all over the place? I had had enough, I went to the front desk and told them I was taking my husband home. I turned around and there were three (3) security guards surrounding me saying I needed to see a nurse. There was not a nurse in the area we sat. One nurse, was speed running in and out-- more out than in! Fortunately, there was a white, male nurse who was kind, courteous and removed the IV before we left. My husband is a disabled Vietnam veteran are both Black Americans and we pay lots for health insurance Today, I took my husband to the Green Street VA hospital and within 2 hours, he was diagnosed, placed on an IV and taken to a room on a hospital floor . When we, the community, continue to accept mediocre to poor service from care providers and other businesses, we will continue to get it. Don't try calling or waiting for a call back from "Guest Relations" they must all be off for the holiday. The test they sent to me asking for feedback did. Not allow me to SUBMIT. I arrived in the ER with my resident around 8:30 pm on Wednesday, Nov 19, 2025. ER was not busy. They took her back immediately. Two hours later she was put in a room. After being put in a room she STILL has not been seen by a doctor 3 hours later. The time is now 2:06 am on Thursday morning, Nov 20, 2025, and she STILL HAS NOT BEEN SEEN BY A DOCTOR. I am the only person in the waiting area. When I asked the receptionist what was taking long, she said they were busy. May so. BTW, they are NOT busy. However, what's the purpose of coming to the ER, if you are not treated in a reasonable timeframe? I have to go to work in 4 hours. I have been sitting here for 6 hours and the person brought is STILL sitting in a room and have not been seen. If I could score -star, I would! read more

My mother just had another emergency hospitalization here, but fortunately this one was for only three days and there was also no surgery. All of the personnel who I spoke to (on the phone) were terrific: The ED nurse - Alexis - was very pleasant and responsive. The unit nurse - Marcus - was *very* friendly. The Nurse Practitioner - Julia - was *wonderful*; she discussed everything with us at length and she was really friendly. The doctor today - Dr. Tshimala - was very pleasant. (The reason why I'm only increasing my rating to three stars is because the previous experience was mostly atrocious, and that was also a very lengthy stay compared to this one). read more

This is the worse ER that I have been to in my entire life. You spend your entire time in different waiting areas exposed to so many germs. I never been here before so I wasnt aware how they do things. I feel that given someone there test results in a waiting area infront of other people is a very bad idea. The worse part was the xray tec that did testing on my legs to see if I had blood clots. The older women was very rude and unprofessional. The tec doing my blood work decided since she couldnt get my veins for iv line she was just going to do blood work, and ignore what the dr ordered as far as putting a iv line in. I assume it was to give me medication. Stuck 4 different times in total with no iv line put in. Never recieved any pain medication and was there for hours. I was asked to do a urine speciman. The nurse took me to the restroom and it smelled horrible, urine on the floor. Very dirty. I asked her to please wait because I wouldnt be long. she left me and I had to push the call button to ask for help. I wont ever come to this er again. Very unhappy with service, the dr or pa that saw me didnt listen to what I was explaining to her, she ask me was I feeling much better so I could be released. How? I didnt recieve any kind of medicine or help, just presciptions and it was for medicine I already have at home that doesnt work and the pharmacy would be closed. I will never come here again. I will recieve a very high hospital bill for absoultely nothing. In tears and in so much pain. I do not recommend. The worse hospital I ever been to in my life. read more

I drove myself to North Western hospital in Baltimore MD a few months ago because my blood pressure was 218 or more over 140 I had no one home with me at the time. It seem like I was going to get help when I checked in with my ID etc. I went get weight check I told young lady I felt dizzy stand in she was rude. I had to weight for a long time to be seen when white male doctor came on his shift a worker told him I was in that room which was a curtin he said he was coming in he must sat there over 35 min instead of coming into me I k iw they have to read that previous shift or RN notes but he was dragging his feet like my blood pressure this high wasn't crucial . I asked him at some point when he peaked in how much longer he said just few min he would be I. I end up leaving due to him taking his time I was dehydrated and dizzy. There floors in emergency room was dirty trash every where this young black lady came in sweeping saying it was ridiculous. The ladies at the desk all sitting around. I realize these were sleep hours but they were at work. No one was on there job but one young man who got me in the room and the lady came In to sweep and the person who took my ID which was easy . This hospital needs more professionalism and compassion and better heath care work habits. read more

I absolutely hate this hospital. Fifteen years ago, I walked into this hospital with my Mom have a mild stroke. I left her at 8pm. after she walked and used the restroom. I told her I would be back in the morning. When I came back in the morning she no longer could walk or use the bathroom on her own. Absolutely No One could explain to me what happened to her over night. When she walked and used the restroom on her own the night before. Utter incompetence. Mind you from that experience she never walked or used the restroom on her own ever from that evening. I sent in written complaints with white wash responses from the administrator who handles their complaints. Had to have her transfered to John's Hopkins for a proper diagnosis. Mind you the diagnosis was totally different from what Northwest said. John's Hopkins made proper diagnosis after a biopsy. The correct diagnosis was treatable by a whole different course of medication but by then all the damage had been done and her functions couldn't be recovered. Fast forward 15yrs. later she is brought in by ambo. for emergency. After the hell of their emergency department and having to chase down results of test taken for over 6 hours, she gets admitted. I'm told she has an infection somewhere but after 5 days no competent staff could tell me from a million tests where or what the infection is. To mention they performed the tests more than once and still had no answers for me. I request transfer to John's Hopkins 20 times and tell them I have absolutely, NO confidence I'm the at All!!!! How this ended, they never transfered as I requested. But they did pad their pockets by doing as many procedures as they could to juice her insurance. End result DEATH!!!! If you want incompetence, no definitive diagnosis for a week, dirty ER rooms, lack of staff urgency, feel like chasing down results for your tests, Be Afraid....Be very Afraid to go here!!!! Throw the whole damn Hospital Away, to Hell with preservation of life!!! So sad that in an emergency the ambo. has to take you to the nearest hospital. Northwest should list themselves as a Morgue, Hospitals should have a level of competency. The sign on the doors should state, Enter At Your Own Risk, Beware!!!! read more

I came to town to see my dad who wasn't doing to well. I'm going to keep this short but this hospital is dirty. I should not see dirt, paper, hair, etc around the perimeter of the room. It's like the sweep it with a dry mop and push it against the wall. My first night there i saw a silver fish on the floor. The next day when they came in to sanitize the room, that's right sanitize the card they leave says it. They are not there to clean your room. So when do they clean them? It took for my father to go to another floor and that room was dirty as well, to get people in there and get it cleaned. It's a shame the employees there don't really care about they job. I heard so many people complaining about they work in the cafeteria, I'm like you'll built all these nice buildings and you'll can't hire enough people to take care of it. You'll have to do better. There were a handful of people that really stepped up and impressed me. I don't remember names but one nurse name on the third floor started with a K and one Aid in the second floor who helped him was a blessing. They did they job and stayed positive and i appreciate that. Now a lot of them had a attitude if you talked to them. Bed side manners, look it up. I mean i learned you'll are called death hospital, you go in for a scratch you leave in a body bag. You need to do better. Help the community feel safe to come not just because your closer. Update: I wanted to thank Dr M. Dillion for being the one doctor that took their time to go over my dads file with us. She knew of the problems we were having and she sat with us and told us what she saw. No other doctor ever told us what was going on. The doctors there had the nerve to say to my parents that they may not remember since they are old. They are two of the most alert people i know. I had the most incredible experience when I took my mom there. Ms Karen in patient registration was phenomenal! She showed empathy towards my mom's situation and she went above & beyond to make sure that we were comfortable & received the best care. Can I just say that yelp should have an option for no stars. Don't take your worst enemies dog to Northwest hospital. I completely understand that Hospitals and emergency rooms are short staffed and overworked. However, Northwest can not use the pandemic as an excuse as there lack of care and incompetence has been going on for years. I took 2 elderly relatives there today. One of my relatives sat in the emergency room from 2pm to Midnight. She needed an X-ray and blood work. She never received an X-ray or the results from her initial bloodwork. I know that while in the waiting room it is common practice to at least get an X-ray. After 10 long hours of waiting in pain, she just couldn't take it anymore and went home. Now my other relative ended up worst off! Let me just say this when you have to make a decision in a hospital emergency room to take someone to another hospital so they can get proper medical care that is horrendous. I am so furious about the inadequate level of care provided at Northwest hospital. I am thinking that our community needs to come together and take serious action. I will be reaching out to the Medical Board. There are a select few people that seem to care about the patients, but watch out for the others. read more

My grade (D) for my stay at NorthWest Hospital in Randallston MD is summarized by...Nurses = D this score is below average because of 2 Nurses who were abusive...Technicians = B they lacked some knowledge but that appeared to be from lack of experience, but were generally caring and attentive...Doctor C = Could have been a possible A, he was kind & concerning, but gave me false information on Policy and would not release me when I was feeling better, not because of my vitals or any failed test, but because treatment protocal called for 5 days but I was feeling well after 3 and wanted to continue my treatment at home, there was no reason to keep me especially when rooms were needed and I was being abused by a few...Sharing consistent information among all & Patient Advocates (D)...I was constantly given conflicting different information on policy and also was given no guidance in my room about amenities. read more

As soon as she got to the ER and was explaining to the front desk lady about why she's there, the nurse interrupted her and just puts her down for leg pain. Back in March my Uncle was sent to Northwest Hospital from a local nursing home. I signed a surrogate form from the nursing home he was in. Since his POA was convicted of a felony for financial exploitation. She was stealing from him. Her POA rights were revoked by the state. Social servies got involved. I was his next of kin blood relative. His POA was not a relative. I was contacted by a doctor at Northwest saying he needed surgery. I was like yes do whatever you need to do. His POA called the hospital and had the surgery canceled. The Northwest went agaist the surrogate form that I signed to make medical decision for him. I did email them showing the surrogote form I signed. I also send them where she was convicted of the crimes. He passed away a few days later. Pitiful hospital. If I had the money I would sue the hospital for wrongful death. Northwest was hospital was negligent in his care and my rights as his surrogate. read more

My 52 year old husband walked into the er, fatigue an coughing chest xray showed abcess in his lung. Should have been sent home to specialists, nope was stuck there 2 months, didn't fix it made it worse then ended up in there with kidney failure blood clot in his lung, couldn't breath, had to be intubated, went into cardiac arrest, received a stage 4 pressure sore, because they never got him up, left the hospital 100 % deconditined. Which means he couldnt even roll over by himself, need 100% care 24/7. They didn't clean the bathroom , change his sheets left chest tube drain box by bed for days. The CEO an his vps had a staff meeting in front of me in the hallway at the icu door while I sat their crying because my husband went into cardiac arrest, how rude an insensitive. There was never any outcomes, reasons told to us for any of this. They act rude, arrogant. Want people to believe they CareBravely, but all they do is try an avoid an try to cover up. This hospital has changed our whole future since I could work an had to stay an take care of him, he can't work anymore an our retirement savings is just vanishing. But this hospital brings in hundreds of millions of dollars pays top employees 200 to 500 thousand plus a year. But they can take care of their patients an community I. Which they supposedly serve. They have the ability to make it right, but just want to prove wrong. GO OUT OF YOUR WAY AN GO SOMEPLACE ELSE! AS A COMMUNITY WE SHOULD NOT STAND FOR THIS! My daughter has autism . She was in a van accident and unfortunately they took her to this hospital. I will never recommend it . The nurse up front told me that she wasn't emergent when she was in a lot of pain. I asked 5 times. While my request was ignored and my non verbal daughter continued to suffer.while she sat and chatted around. It " only" took them 5 hours to give a Tylenol. The ct head people had no idea how to take images of someone with special needs. The poor girl was traumatized. We left after 6 hours of torture , the only saving grace was the ER doctor. She was kind and compassionate but the other management was unacceptable. Do not go here if you can avoid it, the hospital needs to train its staff how to manage special needs population. I'm writing this review because I had to go to this hospital for the first time for a hernia repair. Reading the reviews had me very anxious NOT because of my doctor, who is Dr. Gary Hamamoto he is amazing! The fear was because of the staff the reviews were not good. I have to say my visit was amazing. The staff was very attentive, very polite, thorough and compassionate. I had nurse Jennifer she was awesome and very thorough. Nurse Fanny, who put the IV in my hand (yikes) was amazing. I told her I have a fear of needles and she stated some very kind words to me to indicate she would be gentle and she did. Also Lizelle And the anesthesiologist, I'm sorry I forget her name were amazing. Jennifer Brown took her time going over all paperwork, answering all my questions with patients she was awesome and very instrumental in helping my anxiety come down even more. They really help me to slow down my anxiety. I really appreciate all the staff. The energy in the hospital the outpatient surgical side. they were all a refreshing and professional. I cannot compliment them enough thank you guys I really appreciate it. I needed it because reading the reviews I thought I was in for a nightmare and thank God that was not the case. 9/2022 - My wife just had a bi-lateral mastectomy. The doctors and nurses with this Life Bridge hospital were absolutely wonderful. It is under new ownership and a new CEO. The previous ratings are no longer applicable to this location. It is clean and well kept. All of the staff was simply spectacular. Drs. Michael and Benjamin Shultz are two of the most wonderful, talented doctors in their fields of expertise (cancer and plastic surgery). read more
