The condition worsened over the last five years with nocturia occurring 3-5 times a night. Finally I reached the point where my sleep patterns were so disrupted that I was tired throughout the day. Finally my PSA level rose high enough to warrant making an appointment with Dr. Jiang. We discussed multiple options and procedures to eliminate or lessen my symptoms. Throughout a series of office visits over six months I voiced my concerns about urinary incontinence and erectile dysfunction. Dr. Jiang clearly and patiently explained several treatment options which included TURP, TUIP, Aquablation and HoLEP. He advised that they all had risks however the new "Gold Standard" was HoLEP, and if he had to choose an option for himself it would be HoLEP. This is what I did, and I have no regrets. Dr. Jiang cautioned I should still expect to experience nocturia for a while but to a lesser degree because I would be able to empty my bladder when I urinated. This proved to be completely accurate. It has been almost three months since the procedure. I now have nocturia maybe once a night, and some nights not at all. I am not at all incontinent nor have I experienced any erectile dysfunction. About the only difference is I no longer ejaculate however at 76 years of age I'm way past fathering a child. I can recommend without any reservations Dr. Jiang and the HoLEP procedure.

Communication and care are lacking…read more.. I am sharing my 3-month experience with Dr. Gilbert P. Klemann to help future patients make an informed decision. After I went into acute urinary retention, he performed surgery to install a latex catheter to bypass my urethral stricture. Unbeknownst to me, this material is what would cause continuous pain, bleeding, and recurrent UTI symptoms. Despite my calling the office weekly to report this severe discomfort, the clinic stopped responding to me personally after week one. Instead, they simply prescribed various antibiotics based on the symptoms I left in my voicemails, not once calling me in for testing. The only time a culture was taken was during my first catheter change when I was writhing on the table from intense pain, and the results came back as a severe E. Coli infection. After finding no lasting relief, I researched latex material side effects myself and specifically requested an ER doctor to change it to a silicone catheter. My physical suffering ended instantly once the catheter material was changed, thus concluding that I have a hypersensitivity to latex. Neither he nor his staff looked into this possibility. The final issue occurred when I scheduled a specific visit to have my suprapubic tube removed, as I had been voiding successfully on my own for over eight weeks. During the appointment, Dr. Klemann refused the removal, treated me with condescension, dismissed my agency, and characterized me in my chart notes as "angry and difficult." He also showed a lack of respect for my time; if he had no intention of performing the removal, he should have contacted me by phone or email beforehand rather than letting me show up. This lack of empathy and communication are the main reasons why I won't recommend him to anyone.

This doctor office has the worst communication setup I've ever seen. This all happened because apparently I "missed" a text. Why isn't this emailed like every dentist and doctors office I've been to before??? I arrived 35 minutes early despite going to the wrong location initially as the app doesn't show you the address. You have to go to your appointment in the app, and click driving directions. No where else is the address listed for my appointment. 3:30pm is my appointment time (prefilled paperwork prior to arrival) and I arrived a little before 2:55pm. As I am escorted to my room at 3:50pm I am asked to provide a urine sample. Around 4:10pm is when I ask if they still need a urine sample, as I desperately needed to go and no one has so much as checked up on me. Four associated including the doctor saw me at the door and proceeded to continue doing what they were doing. Finally, getting someone's attention, the nurse tells me to go into the restroom and just grab a vial and put my name on it. The only "pen" is a permemant marker and I'm supposed to label it with that. Fast forward another 20 minutes and I'm all of the sudden getting an ultrasound of my bladder. Mind you, none of this was communicated prior. It's just like, hey, ready for this next? I would literally avoid coming here at any cost if it hadn't already taken me months to see a primary care physician, get a referral, "miss" an appointment booked incorrectly, and then come to the rescheduled appointment. I canceled because after the anal probe by the doctor, didn't feel comfortable he'd do the procedure without risking my health. (Not kind, as someone who's had three procedures)

People's opinions tend to vary greatly depending on why they showed up at OHSU, what they were…read moretreated for and who treated them. In my case, I was there due to a community referral done by the VA to have an MRI done. The reason being that OHSU has the best and most advanced MRI setup in the area. So on that basis, OHSU gets five stars. The MRI operator was great. I was in a fair amount of pain and discomfort and he did everything possible to make me as comfortable as possible. The OHSU MRI machine was totally booked for well over a month but since my situation was urgent they made an appointment for me to come by at 05:00 to have it done. So someone didn't get a full night's sleep. I was not expecting such tight security when I showed up. The entrance was tighter than a TSA checkpoint at PDX. Being up on the hill and not in the city you wouldn't expect to see sketchy people roaming around but in this day and age I guess having a lot of security around is comforting. As noted above, your experience with OHSU might well be very different than mine. But understand that OHSU is a learning hospital and as such provides a wide array of medical services often using the latest and greatest equipment and technologies. The VA gets a lot of their medical staff from OHSU and the VA (at least in Portland) is an amazing facility. Great people at both.

For the most part we are pleased with the health care we have received from doctors at OHSU and the affiliate Adventist. However, the OHSU infrastructure that concerns patient care is horrendous. Apparently, there are a number of doctors that are not pleased with OHSU as the hospital is drastically understaffed and for whatever reason cannot fill vacancies in certain specialties. Many doctors on staff no longer take new patients as their case loads are full. I recently called the office to schedule an MRI for which they have a referral. I was on hold for nearly an hour. When the phone did finally ring, before an agent even got on the phone, I was hung up on. I suppose that is one way to reduce volume of calls. I called the main number, was given an apology. However, they simply reconnected me to the scheduling department. I was on hold and just hung up out of frustration. One regret I have in moving here was that we had to give up going to our hospitals back east like Sloan Kettering, Mount Sinai, and Hackensack University Medical Center.
