I didn't know what to expect but I know during the summer we like to do different things and it appeared different. I called and spoke with Cynthia and she was such a sweetheart and called over to the boat to make sure me and my mom were all set- so once we arrived Jordan whom was our " Captain Jack Sparrow" was eagerly awaiting our arrival. He was an absolute joy- he brought so much fun to this boat ride and even though my mom and I are adults - we are simply big kids at heart and Jordan just added more excitement to that. The boat is decorated so cute, our Captain offered us a necklace and pirate coins RRRRRR. We went on a nice sail around the park (where the swan boats go), and everyone was taking pictures of the boats and us- I hope more people find out about this option because it was only $15.00 per adult for a 25 minutes exploration ride which was so much fun. Wait it was sooooooo much fun. Kids are allowed on the boat at a cheaper rate. Check out the website for prices. The boat plays music and also Jordan played live music on his instrument- that was very fun and enjoyable. I can't wait to go back. I want to bring my nieces next time- this is for sure a kid friendly and adult friendly ride and very enjoyable. Jordan was a blast from beginning to end. How cool a pirate who's nice who would've thought of that? ‍!! He answered all our questions and he was so nice. I can't say it enough that Jordan for sure made this fun- because it could've been boring with the wrong pirate but this pirate was simply the best. They offer great classes for adults (and probably for kids, but I'm not familiar them). Their level 1 curriculum includes - Sailing under just the main - Tacking and jibing - Mooring (J-turns) - Points of sail - Rigging and de-rigging - Etc. The level 2 curriculum is about the same - Sailing under main and jib - Methods of stopping under sail (like heave-to) - Harbor radio basics - Emergency situations There isn't much difference between I and II class except a jib. That being said, the goal -- from what I can deduce -- is to just get you comfortable with the boat. Instructors for the school are really top notch! Miles, Catherine, Stewart, and Jonathan all know their stuff, have years of experience, and genuinely enjoy teaching. Their method is to give a brief intro to a technique in the classroom and then get out on the water and do them. Level I students typically have a tutor in the boat while Level II just have another student. Instructors are in power boats on the water giving (or shouting guidance) while under sail. There are about 10 students in a class but only two sailing in a boat at a time, sometimes with a tutor. This does give you a good amount of time as crew or at the tiller. You almost always sail with a different student so that you get experience knowing how different people react. They also offer open sailing on the weekends, racing on Wednesday nights, and weekend day sails to a picnic for REALLY cheap. It's a great way to get more experience and test out your skills. This is probably one of the best things about the school is the after-hours access they provide at a very reasonable price ($25 for 3 hours recreational, $25 to race for a couple hours, $50 for all day picnic sail). I've also experienced their private lessons. Which I can only praise. I learned more in 8 hours of private lessons than I did in the classes. There is no classroom setting, it's all one-on-one and in the water. Well worth the money. I'm considering taking more lessons to learn more because I missed a Level III class about adverse conditions. I have only one complaint that could not be rationalized away. During the chalk talk students are allowed to ask questions... and I put those questions in two categories 1) Questions that could be answered by just DOING what we were being taught and 2) Questions that are completely irrelevant to our sailing level. I complain about these because these questions took time away from being on the water. I believe its inconsiderate to the other students -- most of our funds are limited and we can't keep taking classes. It's frustrating too because most of those questions were from Level I students (Level I and II are grouped together in classroom). If instructors could recommend questions be held until we're on boats or tell students not to worry about advanced questions that would really give more time on water and not boil the blood of the Level II students (all in my class felt the same). Overall though I give it four stars. If I gave them five it would be saying they're perfect -- and they're not. But they are pretty darn close... and I like that! I will continue to throw money at the Edgewood Sailing School. I'm not staff, just a very enthusiastic student!

Lake Massapoag is, in a word, lovely. A freshwater lake that is beautiful all the way around and…read morehas north and south side public beaches/boat launches/fishing areas. Peppered between are beautiful, peaceful houses. Come on a Saturday afternoon and you'll see a team of sailboats out. Mornings, afternoons, and evenings are nothing short of delightful at Lake Massapoag. We caught 8 fish in one morning of fishing on the north side (bass and sunfish) and only one during an evening of fishing on the south side. Whatever the case, it's a beautiful place to spend some time.

Lake Massapoag is a wonderful natural feature in Sharon Massachusetts. A 353 acre body of water…read morewith boating, swimming and fishing. The size-able parking area and bandstand serve as a great location for Independence Day festivities for the community with an old time carnival atmosphere which continues for hours leading up to the fireworks. In past times there was a railroad not far that brought Boston's movers and shakers to the lake for summer recreation. Some of the buildings from that time remain, at least partially, such as the present day senior center. Lake Massapoag is the headwater of Canoe River as well as Massapoag Brook. The Canoe River leads to Taunton River and eventually to Narragansett Bay. Massapoag Brook flows to the Neponset River which empties into Dorchester Bay. One of the more interesting wildlife facts about Lake Massapoag is that there is a species of eel which migrates up the Atlantic coast and all the way to Lake Massapoag, moving overland nocturnally during rainy nights.

But one day, I casually stumbled upon the local beach as I was driving down the road and vowed to one day check it out. Yesterday, I finally followed through on that promise to myself and visited Ames Long Pond for the first time. Having no idea what to expect for a beach on a pond in the middle of suburbia, I didn't set my expectations very high... but I was pretty happy with the experience overall. This place is small. Don't expect to be visiting a beach on Cape Cod. But for what it is, it's surprisingly nice. Staffed with lifeguards during the summer from 10am to 5pm, there's a really beautiful lake with a dock for kids to hang out on/jump off of and a nice little beach to lay out on. There are even bathrooms, which I absolutely didn't expect at such a small local place. The water was nice and clear and clean, with lots of aquatic life to watch if you're not much of a swimmer and just enjoy standing in the water to cool off, like me. Our neighbors over at the next umbrella even managed to find (and capture) a crawfish! The beach was also clean and there were plenty of trash cans so you could help keep it that way. At $3 for a day pass and $12 for the season (for Stoughton residents), this place is really a hidden gem that will improve my summer tremendously. The best part... no beach traffic!!
