    NCL Breakaway
    Charles T.

For my first cruise ever (Chas' 10th I believe), we boarded the NCL Breakaway with an itinerary of hitting Honduras, Belize, and two stops in Mexico. I've heard these ships are like floating skyscrapers, but that did not prepare me to pull up to the Port in Miami and see this insanely huge ship we were about to spend the next week on. I had wanted to take a cruise for as long as I could remember and never had the means to make that a reality. I had watched plenty of videos on the cruise ships and all the fun and exciting things you could do. I was told of all the incredible entertainment and shows on board. I heard all of the stories about the unlimited beverage packages and how you could eat til you roll off the side of the ship. Literally none of that actually makes a dent in the experience. "I'm going to be floating on that around the Caribbean for the next week?!" The NCL Breakaway is not in the largest class of cruise ships, but that doesn't mean by any means that it isn't humongous. This ship holds nearly 4,000 passengers with another 1600+ in crew working. It is over 1,000 feet long and all of these numbers still could not make you understand the sheer shock you experience when seeing this thing and thinking "I'm going to be floating on that around the Caribbean for the next week?!" We had an interior stateroom so I can only speak to the things I experienced in there. I was warned extensively that the showers in the staterooms of these ships are super tiny and luckily on this specific ship that was not the case (although I would come to find at a later date on the NCL Sun that it still is the case for some of the older ships). The bed was large and comfortable but took up a good portion of the room. The room had plenty of space for two of us to move around (my girlfriend and I, not Chas you perverts) but there were definitely some hang up's that would require for some extra planning. Firstly, there are very limited outlets. Some of these ships have additional usb ports built in around the room but if you have a lot of things to plug in like we do, you're going to need to bring a power strip or two Secondly, the closet has very limited hangers even for one person so for two people it's nearly impossible to hang the things you need to. A little-known fact is all cruise ship walls in the staterooms are magnetic. We found some cool little hooks on Amazon that can handle up to 100lbs that you can hang from your walls for additional ability to hang anything you need in the cabin, not just clothing. Hats, if you have lanyards for your on-board card or passport ID, towels, etc. are all things that these make perfect sense for. You'll also find a safe in the room you can use for your personal belongings and of course the mini bar! There are so many options when choosing where to eat, it can become a little overwhelming. There are the buffet options (and there are usually multiple buffets), there are the sit down restaurants with menu's that are complimentary with your trip, and there are pay per meal experiences that are their "upscale" dining options. In hindsight to be honest, I was just as happy in the buffet as anywhere else, but why not lay it out a bit. In the buffets it's pretty much a free for all. You can wear what you want, eat what you want, and seating is based on you seeing a spot and sitting down. The food is maybe a half a notch under the other dining options, but the convenience of this option outweighs that for a lot of people. In the complimentary dining room's you will find more constructed menu's and more formal service. As a man, you'll also be required to wear long pants to these meals. I had a really nice pair of khaki shorts that I figured would pass for the dress code one night and I was sent back to my room to change. You are also suggested to make reservations for these rooms. You can go and wait in line (if there is a line) but the reservation guarantee's you sit literally as soon as you walk up. The meals in these dining rooms were perhaps a step up (the desserts certainly were) but you'll need to be prepared to be a little more structured. In the fine dining pay per meal type options the service is again a step up. We ate in the Brazilian Steakhouse one night and the attention to detail was certainly a bit more pronounced here (what I could remember of it at least after a full day of sun, pools, hot tubs, and the unlimited beverage package). The food was good, but honestly I wouldn't say it was so much better than the other options that you'd need to pay an additional fee to experience it. One of the major attractions on Norwegian cruise ships is their entertainment. We went to the "Howl at the Moon" Dueling Piano Bar (3 nights out of 7 to be exact), the Karaoke bar (also 3 times), A little salsa music/dancing side show, trivia, and of course...the big draws! **ran out of room, sorry**

Such a great value for the price... especially if you live in Florida where you don't have to pay for airfare or a hotel. However, if you book a cruise during hurricane season, be prepared that some of your ports of call may get canceled. You have your choice of eating your meals in a dining room, at the buffet or a sports bar type restaurant which is open 24 hours. You can make a dinner reservation at one of their specialty restaurants. If you go that route, I highly recommend Le Bistro & Ocean Blue. Both were amazing! The only thing that I didn't like about this cruise line is that they really didn't push hand washing at the buffet. They have a spa package for the Thermal Suite that you can buy before the cruise leaves the port If you just want to relax, I highly recommend this too. This is located at the front of the ship and gives you access to the Steam Room, Salt Room, Sauna, Sanarium, spa and therapy pool. You can lounge on a heated or a regular chaise lounge and just look out into the ocean. All in all, it was a very relaxing vacation!

I really enjoyed my 3 cruises with them so far! After sailing with associates and having a terrible time, using NCL's solo program has really made me love this company! They treat solo's like VIP without the additional charge! The break away itself was an amazing ship. So much to do such good food just all around a great experience. I can not WAIT until cruising resumes so I can do another cruise with this company and possibly with this ship. Just search MrBucketlist NCL Breakaway on youtube for my full tour and review and experience!

this is going to be a long review so i'm going to split it into sections covid policy: this cruise was may 2022, vaccination and negative covid test at most 3 days prior was required to board the ship. Being that covid almost bankrupted the industry I thought they would be a little more vigilant with handling onboard cases. Masks were not required or enforced anywhere on or off board so people were coughing hacking all over the place, in the theatre, in the dining room, at the buffets, everywhere. We received confirmation on the last day from a medical staff member that there were several covid patients on board currently. I feel like the cruise line should notify all passengers immediately if something like that happens because it becomes a safety hazard to everyone. The day of disembarkation a family member of ours tested positive so now we don't know how many of us were unknowingly infected. If masks had been required after the first confirmed case on board it's possible a lot of people wouldn't have become sick too. food: overall it was a 7/10. the buffets were very hit or miss for dinner, breakfast and lunch were solid. Dinner was either fantastic or not so hot. Asian and Caribbean themed nights had the best food hands down. Dining room food was an 8.5, sometimes the selections were lacking and there was nothing that appealing but overall it was very good for dinner. Shanghais noodle bar was the worst by far, there was an hour wait to get in and the food just had no flavor at all, the dumplings were the only edible part of the meal. on a high note there's a starbucks on board! and free ice cream if the machine isn't closed or broken down at the moment. entertainment: don't miss: burn the floor, comedy magician good: onboard comedians, six musical skip: solo singer stateroom and overall ship experience: rooms are pretty small as always, but comfortable and it works. Beds are great and there's a large bathroom. This cruise line will charge you for everything, wifi is 200 for 150 minutes, another 100 dollars to upgrade to unlimited, and another $100 dollars to upgrade to wifi that actually works. it's very slow and social media sites are blocked on the regular wifi packages. there's a ten dollar charge for booking shows in person. there's an arcade, every play for a game is about 2 dollars. Bowling alley that's not included. On port days everything on the ship is basically shut down. They even closed the shuffleboard court so plan on going to the atrium and staring at the wall if you're not on the island all day. The MCs for events are very entertaining, they have a very solid team that makes even small events fun. overall the cruise was a 6.8. it was fun despite the setbacks but I don't think I would sail norwegian again as other cruise lines i've been on were a much better value overall.

This has been a long review in the making. We went on a trip near the middle of August out of Miami and from the moment we walked to the booth outside to the minute we got in our car to leave back home we were treated like royalty. We had the pleasure of the Haven Experience and it is totally worth every single penny. The room was bigger than I ever imagine, it had a butler that came around every evening to see if my little ones needed any snacks and took care of everything for us. The food alone in the Haven makes it worth the experience, but more over, when you go to explore the remaining of the ship, it feels as if you are walking around a crowded mall on payday weekend. With Haven, it is like an escape, a chance to actually relax. If I ever venture to another cruise it will definitely have to be Haven or better, because there is no way I'll be able to stay any other way.

Look at the design of that table. Luckily we got video & pics before you fixed it. The table even dented your deck.

What a beautiful ship. I know because I never left it. On day 2 (valentines day) my hubby & I were enjoying putting our feet up on the table to post on Facebook(trust me, we're too old for any shenanigans, just silly pictures). I have long legs, but I barely reached it. My hubby used his foot on the bottom of the table to push it towards me, you'll see why in the photos, lets just say, whomever designed them should really reevaluate them. PLEASE! You see, the wicker tables on The Breakaway HAVEN balconies are held down with what I would call an extremely heavy round granite stone & GRAVITY. Nothing else. Not hot glue, sticky tape or even old gum, No...this table was not secure in any way...AT ALL. I contacted out butler, the concierge, Virginia, I tried the Captain, but they won't let you talk to him. Just like medical told me I was not allowed to see my own x-rays. I paid for them & I believe my toes/foot to be broken, but I have to take their word for it that "Your foot is not broken, but wear this boot & seek immediate attention when you get home." Seriously?? How is that ok? Oh...here's the worst part, they let me leave with a blood pressure of 180/101. I've had 4 stroke like events in the past & was VERY clear about it to each person who saw me. Well, your officers, maybe the captain, not sure, I am sure of what I heard...so is my phone. How dumb to take a cruise during a pandemic?! Not so dumb to turn my phone on record for the ENTIRE medical experience. You know what you said so do I as does my phone. This is only the beginning. You ruined a once in a lifetime "Bucket journey list" do you know what that is? You also lied, A LOT. I did seek immediate attention & you most definitely lied! X-rays & 6 motrin = $5,500.00. And you pay your crew rubbish. You have them working even though they're testing positive just no symptoms. Norwegian cruise lines, the Breakaway should've had EVERYTHING fixed since we haven't cruised in 2 years. But, sadly not to be. You just let all the broken pieces fall and hope nobody calls you out on it... "Ring-Ring" I'M CALLING ! ready for pictures....

When I booked on TripAdvisor, the tour was listed as being 1hour and 20 minutes. The sail time was listed as 2:30pm with a suggested arrival time of 2pm. We arrived at 2pm on March 19th 2026. We easily found the waiting area...by the Ferris wheel and Hard Rock Cafe. There was no particular order to the line. Once the crew arrived they scanned our digital confirmations and handed us paper tickets. They pulled this wooden ship's wheel out, and began directing us to the wheel to take a photo. We knew this to be a marketing ploy for possible purchase of the photo later. Normally, I do not have an issue with this, I get it. However when we tried to decline the taking of the photo, we were told it was for "safety purposes " and we could always decline the purchase later. Really? I've never heard of such a thing? I felt as though they weren't being honest with us. Once on board, the ship did not pull off until 2:50pm. We returned at 3:50pm. So, in actuality the tour was an hour. The tour let us know about a few historical facts about Biscayne Bay and pointed out celebrity mansions. I know this is a pretty standard tour for the area. This particular one felt rushed with the narrator speaking fast, the music mediocre and not much group interaction. I probably have exhausted my Biscayne Bay tours. I do not see me taking another one, and certainly not with this company.

However, we were very disappointed because the ship was dirty, the smell of gasoline was nauseating at times, and even worse, there was a horrible smell, that of a dead rat or animal of the sort, and trash as well. That aspect made the tour unpleasant and it's unacceptable. THEY NEED TO CLEAN THAT BOAT! PS. The music they play its EXTREMELY LOUD!

The boat was spacious, clean and the crew was very helpful. Great option of snacks and drinks. Jorge from the team did a fantastic job keeping everyone safe explaining the needed safety procedures and politely redirecting people if they stood in an unsafe place or position during the tour. Dr. George has a plethora of knowledge about literally anything we seem to pass by and provides the commentary in a generally neutral and positive way (not always easy to do when discussing Miami's history!). There was also staff onboard from the museum that were very helpful to answer questions. Just a couple points of feedback about the ship: the snack and drink bar seemed to not be able to accept card, due to technical difficulties, which was a bummer since many people nowadays don't have cash. Also, the indoor space at the bottom seemed to be kept very cold. But of course, there were lots of other options for seating including the top that is covered and the front part of the boat had a great view and plenty of room for lots of people.

You should reserve tickets in advance if you want to secure a time. The departure point in Bayside Marketplace, an open air mall and bar / restaurant / entertainment complex in downtown. Parking here (for 2+ hours, which is pretty much required to cover the entire cruise + check-in window) was $34! You are required to check in 45 minutes before departure, probably so they can ensure you don't show up at the last minute and demand a refund. From what I could tell, there were several other boat tour companies also hawking trips from multiple booths at this mall, so maybe you can just walk up for some of them (?). We boarded about 15 minutes before departure. This involved getting forced photos taken, which is always a bad sign to me. If you had arrived early enough (before we did) they even tracked you down before the departure to try to sell you photos. In our case, we just exited afterwards and never got the sales pitch. The cruise itself is not bad. Miami's Biscayne Bay is certainly scenic, and the boats, homes, and skyline you see are interesting. My advice would be to sit on the right / starboard side, as you can generally get better views from there. The cruise starts along the Miami shoreline, then heads out into the bay past various islands. Eventually, you come upon a few areas that are densely developed with high-end homes. The owners of the homes were mostly people whom I'd never heard of - local retiree billionaires who sold pharmaceutical companies, whoever founded Instagram, someone who owns and NBA franchise, etc. Occasionally some name would come up that I had heard of (people recently tried or jailed for things, musicians from a bit further back, etc.). You then pass some even more exclusive island with more generic condos where other celebrities (most of whom I'd heard of) live at least part time. Then you pass the working port area with the cranes and large container ships en route back. The last 10 minutes of the cruise is again the Miami shoreline. The guy doing the narration was good - he seamlessly switched between English and Spanish and sounded fluent in both. There was a bar on board and some of the tour group were quite enthusiastic about it. However, given that I was facing 30+ minutes in Friday Miami rush hour right after the tour, I didn't really want to add alcohol to that scenario. In summary - this wasn't bad, it just wasn't "for us". The scenery was nice, but a lot of the 'content' was stuff I just don't care about.

I understand this is a high-speed boat attraction and have ridden many times. I was simply trying to explain how wind direction and passenger positioning can affect the amount of spray passengers receive. In my experience, captains have previously appreciated these discussions and handled them professionally. Instead of listening, staff repeatedly and aggressively told me that I would get wet, which completely missed the point I was trying to make. When I asked to speak with a captain or supervisor, my request was denied. The situation became increasingly confrontational. I was told not to educate an adult individual at the kiosk about nautical terminology, despite my attempt to explain a legitimate concern. I was also uncomfortable being recorded without my permission. Rather than de-escalating the situation, staff called security and threatened police removal. As a long-time customer, I found that response excessive and unnecessary. I expect better customer service, professionalism, and respect from a business I have supported for years. Management should review how this incident was handled and provide additional training on customer relations and conflict de-escalation.

We went around the mansions and islands of Biscayne Bay for about 90 minutes as the sun set. The tour guide was informative while keeping things light and fun, and the DJ added to the atmosphere by timing songs from artists like Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, and Ricky Martin as we passed their homes. There were plenty of photo opportunities, and although the boat was on the smaller side, it didn't feel crowded. The top and front were open-air, with covered seating downstairs. Approaching the lit-up Miami skyline at the end of the ride was a highlight. The boat had a bar with reasonably priced drinks ($5 beers and $10 cocktails) and snacks available for purchase. The only downside was unclear check-in instructions. The email said the booth was inside Bayside Marketplace behind Chili's on the second floor. Right across from Chili's is a storefront for a different tour operator, and downstairs there are at least ten other booths with similar names, which made it confusing. After asking around, we learned the Fiesta Cruises booth was actually outside on the dock--you have to walk through the Tasca Paella restaurant to reach it. Once we found it, check-in and boarding were smooth. Parking at the garage can also be challenging, especially on weekend evenings or during events. My tour coincided with a Miami Heat game next door, which made traffic and parking more difficult and expensive (a $57 flat event rate). The company did send a warning email recommending public transit or rideshare. Even arriving an hour early, it still took about 40 minutes to park and locate the check-in booth.

We live in Miami, but wanted to bring some friends in town for New Year's on a boat cruise to see the cruise port/downtown Miami area and the value for $70-80/per person was really great for a 2 hour cruise! Ask to be dropped off at the main parking/taxi area and walk straight back to the boat docks and you'll see a red umbrella for the Fiesta Cruises booth and they'll check you in for your reservation or sell you tickets if you don't have them. All staff were so warm and welcoming and we were shown right on the boat and got drinks from the time we arrived and the bar staff had a great selection of drinks and were all so warm and friendly. The captain and staff all were warm and welcome and had a great personality and were all knowledgable and had a great tour of the Miami area. The tour was truly outstanding and is a great tour for Miami locals and anyone visiting the Miami area from out of town!
